It's been a couple of years since I was here but I'm pleased to report that it is even better than before. Great food. I'll be back more often.

Very disappointed in this visit. The noise in the restaurant was excruciating. There was music faintly in the background, but the noise of conversation was absolutely overpowering. This establishment badly needs to look at some sort of acoustic dampening. The menus themselves seem to be new, and made of stiff plastic(?). Very difficult to handle. The content of the menu is, nowadays, so disappointing. If you don't like spices, curry, chillies, then you are basically scuppered. I had what was a chicken pie with potatoes and an Indian-style sauce. The top of the pie was puff pastry. The casing, though, appeared to be shortcrust pastry(?) and was solid - like trying to cut through leather. Just edible. I had to Google the sauce to find out what it was. So disappointing. My friend and I ignored the starters. Only the soup looked 'normal', or enticing. With the mains, if you do not want fish and chips, you could have a problem. Spices, chillies, curry, etc., predominate. The Belgian waffles, with chocolate sauce and ice cream, were superb! However, the dessert menu is very limited. Earlier, I might have been interested in the Scottish breakfast, but the menu does not say what the breakfast contains. The service from the waiting staff was pretty faultless, but the kitchen service was very poor. The restaurant was nowhere near full, but it took 30 minutes for our mains to arrive. Is this place trying to be sophisticated with it menu? Sadly, it is failing badly. The overall 3 star rating is only because the waffles were so good, and the waiting staff were pleasant and efficient. Otherwise it would be 2 stars. My dining companion and I are both in agreement that we will not be back, despite being local.

Only fault was that tea wasn't hot and had to be sent back

Lovely setting, great view, pleasant ambiance, but very noisy . Not aware of any music playing but voices seem to echo and really quite uncomfortable for quiet chat. Menu disappointed as more than half of items in starters and mains were spicy, curried or with chillies, which does not suit me and, I'm sure, many others. Short dessert menu but waffles were delicious. Wait staff polite and helpful, but food delivery very slow.

Cracking views if you can get a window seat! Tried and tested formula as has been the same for years and still has that familiar, welcoming atmosphere and does not feel dated. Good food, good value, great service!

Full Scottish was awful, bacon portion tiny and overcooked beans were mostly sauce, toast could be used as a discus and the egg was small and pale. Although the black pudding was nice. I must have struck a bad day for the chef.

Going to rant about the booking question I've encountered in Scotland. When asking for a table for three we were asked if we had a booking. We did not and there were a lot of empty tables. We arrived about 12:30 for lunch. We were given a table, but also a time we would have to leave by. There were still empty tables when we left (earlier than our deadline 2:20 p.m.). I understand bookings for large parties, but a table for three or four seems extreme. Food was excellent as usual and service as well.

I loved working here many years ago as a chef, I knew the owner, great guy, close friend of the family. I love the food and the people were great! I had a wonderful time.

We visited at short notice today and they managed to get us a table for 6 which was good news as they were very busy. The staff were friendly and helpful and the pace of service was excellent. They were not obtrusive but they replaced drinks and checked on us so we felt attended to but not crowded. We had a range of items from the very decent menu and everyone was very happy with their choices. They kindly brought out my granddaughters soup first so she could get started first which I thought was a nice touch, Our bill was reasonable for the amount we had and the whole experience was very enjoyable. I recommend a visit if you’re in the area

Just walked out after being treated disgustingly by member of staff being told I don’t care after trying to explain a misunderstanding regarding to booking really isn’t the one and then being able to see us being spoke about amongst staff because of this really is appalling!! I work in the hospitaily industry and I’m really shocked and disgusted by the way my mother and I was treated won’t be returning

Up on holiday visiting my Aunt and it would be rude not to pop into the CC! Ordered the hummus to share which was spot on and packed full of flavour. For a change I went for the combo of steak and haggis and the steak was seasoned well and cooked as I asked. The katsi curry looked and tasted great also! Great service and atmosphere with a good selection of beer. Reasonable price and perfect for an evening meal next to the Clyde! (Went back a second time to try the pizza! The food and service were fantastic on both visits)

We were a table of 4. I ordered the regular beef burger. One other at our table ordered the black lentil Dahl (vegetarian). She happened to find a hair in her curry. We both had upset stomachs within an hour of eating. The burger did not taste right to me. I think they used dated beef. The stomach ache lasted 12 hours plus. A really disappointing experience. I would not eat here again. I had also ordered a “green salad” and all that came as a bowl of bitter rocket leaves and s couple slices of tomato. That’s not a salad. That’s a bowl of rocket. Very disappointing. The table service was excellent, however.

Went for breakfast at 9 … doesn’t open till 10am. Ordered two poached eggs on toast - very unappealing on plate, eggs were hard, coffee came later. The bins in the toilets have clearly never seen a wipe since they were bought - dirty and smelly. Very disappointed with whole experience.

Amazing view , best breakfast I had-cooked to the perfection , very nice and pleasant service. Lovely coffee and what else you can ask for? Scottish breakfast with lovely black pudding, everything freshly made on order. Thank you so much for a great experience at your cafe.

Nice food but the place needs an update and the floor was full of dust and the iron pillar was covered in thick dust was worried in case it fell in the food. Wouldn't return. Too noisy

Arrived yesterday foolishly without making a reservation. The place was extremely busy but the staff managed to accommodate the both of us. The food was excellent and the staff were 1st class.

Had lunch here today, food was OK. Beef sandwich drowned in horseradish sauce and Mac and cheese pretty generic. Service quite slow, and prices way above what's delivered to your plate. Architecture is interesting, yet not really any atmosphere? I've been now... That's about it?

Absolutely love coming here for food and drinks! My family and I have been visiting for over 15 years! Staff are always so lovely and helpful. The menu is also amazing and plenty veggie and vegan options! Also the desserts are so so good!

Fabulous meal with four really different and seriously tasty dishes plus wine and dessert. Great, helpful and friendly service and a really enjoyable overall experience. Great value too.

Went for lunch recently. It's a nice place, great views from window tables. However first there were not many vegetarian options - the soup was chicken. I dont understand why, if there's only one soup on offer, they can't make it without meat which would suit everyone. Secondly, the service was very poor. I had to ask twice to place my order and the waitresses were less than helpful, almost grudgingly serving us. It's a shame as would be so much better.

We had been meaning to visit this place for some time, having had it recommended to us as a must do. We weren't disappointed! We had our dog with us so sadly we weren't able to sit in the back room where the spectacular coastal views are. Nevertheless we were quite happy with our allocated table in the front window. We loved the Art Deco features and the ambience. We ordered nachos to share, which arrived with guacamole, salsa and sour cream dips. The nachos were warm and delicious. I found several good vegetarian options and chose the black dhal with cauliflower and steamed rice. My husband had the sticky beef. Both our meals arrived promptly and also piping hot. Very tasty and no complaints with the presentation or the flavour. Service was attentive and friendly, and our doggie got lots of fuss from staff and customers alike. We definitely plan to return when our doggie is back with our daughter so that we can sample those views and choose another tasty option from the menu.

What a fabulous time we had for my husband’s 70 th birthday celebration with friends & family. 22 of us !! The staff were wonderful & the food was amazing. One of our favourite places to eat & it did not disappoint. Food was fab, service was excellent & we all had a wonderful time. Thank you Laurie & team, you were brilliant.

Superb views, good food and a friendly, welcoming staff.

Usual place closed so we came here for change. We wanted coffee and scones. Served immediately and order taken before we even sat down. So quick we ordered coffee and never had chance to look and see if they had scones. My friend went up and added scones to order. Not home made but nice enough and again drinks came quick! Nice atmosphere but wouldn't rush back

Great food, great service and you really need to consider booking a table.

Five of us waited almost half an hour for someone to take our order, needless to say we walked out. Very poor.

If I could give 6 stars for service I would! Laurie was excellent, friendly and helpful. The food was really great and I had some lovely whisky I had the prawn linguini which was absolutely yummy and my friends had the chicken katsu curry which they also loved.

Disappointed in management doesn't even come close to how I feel! After going to the quiz here on the regular, tonight was a quiet night! Instead of very politely asking everyone to finish up the drinks they just bought they decided the best course of action was to open the doors and let the freezing cold wind in, in the hopes that everyone would leave! Absolutely disgusting behaviour! Will be looking elsewhere for a quiz now as I can't believe they would even consider treating paying customers like this!

A lovely mid week dinner, the Mac and cheese was delicious. There was a nice atmosphere in the cafe. The staff were friendly. The food was reasonably priced. We will definitely return again soon and would highly recommend this place for a meal.

Visited twice during our recent holiday. First day for a few drinks at seats beside bar. The barman was lovely. The next morning we came for a delicious breakfast in the dining area at a table with amazing views over the water. The staff were very pleasant .Definitely be back if we visit the area again.

Dirty cups, toilets stink, cold scrambled eggs served and serving staff who don't smile. Not a pleasant visit.

We had a lovely table looking onto the water & we had coffees & a jug of water! One order was a baked potato & chilli the most generous size ever & the other was the chicken Schwarma on a flatbread with salad … absolutely delicious ! A lovely late lunch as always great service & great food we will return!

Few bars are situated right on the River Clyde. The cafe continental probably has the best view of the few that do. A must go to destination for any one visiting the Glasgow area to take in a sunny afternoon.

Pals afternoon catch up and decided on trip to beautiful Gourock so it could only be Cafe Continental. Lucky enough to get a window table as the views are stunning. Food superb as usual as was service.

The staff are helpful and obliging but it really is very average food and it's not cheap. I had fish and chips and it was truly disappointing, it was actually half a fish fillet and skinny French Fries, very much not the traditional meal you would expect. Mac and cheese was very dry with little flavor. No one in our party actually finished their meal. The whole experience was disappointing to say the least.

Visited here with my mum before visiting my dad in hospital in Greenock. Because we arrived just before noon, we were given the breakfast menu, which was fine by us. Two bacon rolls, one with tattie scone, a flat white, and a pot of tea for just over a tenner. Lovely staff and great views

Having booked a table was disgusted to be offered table at toilet door staff were rude and unapologetic basically take it or leave it - LEFT! They didn’t even care would avoid we certainly won’t be back.

Having made the waitress aware of my query, I'm still waiting for an answer!!! My friend had to leave for a train but we were there long enough for someone to reply!!! I'm not a person who courts confrontation so left without making a fuss!!! They were particularly busy that lunchtime but that's not an excuse to be served food that was raw in places (mince)! I had eaten half way through before spotting what it was!!! The waitress did say she'd make the 'person in charge' aware but I'm still waiting for a reply!!!!! I use this place a lot, so disappointed!!!!!!!

We have been visiting Scotland for years now and always head here, the food and service is exceptional. In fact we have had the same waiter serve us for the last 15 years of visiting . Food was as good as ever as was the fantastic service, thank you guys!

Shameful We were treated appallingly on visiting this restaurant Had invited friends up from Ayr for the day and chose cafe continental for lunch. As soon as we walked in we were approached by a rude waiter and asked to leave and told that my partner was too drunk (he wasnt) We were embarrassed and really couldn’t believe the treatment of us. What was supposed to be a special day was completely ruined. Shame on you - you don’t treat people like this!

We visited for lunch and the cafe was exceptionally busy. Despite this the service was quick and staff were courteous and pleasant. We had fish and chips and a jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw. They were delicious and reasonably priced. The cafe was very clean as were the modern toilets. This was our first visit here but won’t be the last.

The menu sounds interesting and exciting but the food is disappointing. Pakoras were burnt and all dips, sauces and dressings are straight out of a jar. I love slaw but couldn’t eat tne soggy purple cabbage on my sandwich
