An age old cafe i used to visit as a child, still goimg strong in the heart of Gourock, the gateway to the holidaying era of the victorians

We weren't all that hungry so had just a starter which was really good and fairly substantial great views

Absolutely love coming here for food and drinks! My family and I have been visiting for over 15 years! Staff are always so lovely and helpful. The menu is also amazing and plenty veggie and vegan options! Also the desserts are so so good!

Fabulous meal with four really different and seriously tasty dishes plus wine and dessert. Great, helpful and friendly service and a really enjoyable overall experience. Great value too.

Great selection of beers and spirits, you won't be disappointed, I guarantee it. Not a massive menu, but it caters for everyone one,and has daily specials. All great value for money. Grat staff who are always pleasant, and provide great service.

Went for lunch recently. It's a nice place, great views from window tables. However first there were not many vegetarian options - the soup was chicken. I dont understand why, if there's only one soup on offer, they can't make it without meat which would suit everyone. Secondly, the service was very poor. I had to ask twice to place my order and the waitresses were less than helpful, almost grudgingly serving us. It's a shame as would be so much better.

We had been meaning to visit this place for some time, having had it recommended to us as a must do. We weren't disappointed! We had our dog with us so sadly we weren't able to sit in the back room where the spectacular coastal views are. Nevertheless we were quite happy with our allocated table in the front window. We loved the Art Deco features and the ambience. We ordered nachos to share, which arrived with guacamole, salsa and sour cream dips. The nachos were warm and delicious. I found several good vegetarian options and chose the black dhal with cauliflower and steamed rice. My husband had the sticky beef. Both our meals arrived promptly and also piping hot. Very tasty and no complaints with the presentation or the flavour. Service was attentive and friendly, and our doggie got lots of fuss from staff and customers alike. We definitely plan to return when our doggie is back with our daughter so that we can sample those views and choose another tasty option from the menu.

What a fabulous time we had for my husband’s 70 th birthday celebration with friends & family. 22 of us !! The staff were wonderful & the food was amazing. One of our favourite places to eat & it did not disappoint. Food was fab, service was excellent & we all had a wonderful time. Thank you Laurie & team, you were brilliant.

Superb views, good food and a friendly, welcoming staff.

Usual place closed so we came here for change. We wanted coffee and scones. Served immediately and order taken before we even sat down. So quick we ordered coffee and never had chance to look and see if they had scones. My friend went up and added scones to order. Not home made but nice enough and again drinks came quick! Nice atmosphere but wouldn't rush back

Great food, great service and you really need to consider booking a table.

Five of us waited almost half an hour for someone to take our order, needless to say we walked out. Very poor.

If I could give 6 stars for service I would! Laurie was excellent, friendly and helpful. The food was really great and I had some lovely whisky I had the prawn linguini which was absolutely yummy and my friends had the chicken katsu curry which they also loved.

Disappointed in management doesn't even come close to how I feel! After going to the quiz here on the regular, tonight was a quiet night! Instead of very politely asking everyone to finish up the drinks they just bought they decided the best course of action was to open the doors and let the freezing cold wind in, in the hopes that everyone would leave! Absolutely disgusting behaviour! Will be looking elsewhere for a quiz now as I can't believe they would even consider treating paying customers like this!

A lovely mid week dinner, the Mac and cheese was delicious. There was a nice atmosphere in the cafe. The staff were friendly. The food was reasonably priced. We will definitely return again soon and would highly recommend this place for a meal.

Visited twice during our recent holiday. First day for a few drinks at seats beside bar. The barman was lovely. The next morning we came for a delicious breakfast in the dining area at a table with amazing views over the water. The staff were very pleasant .Definitely be back if we visit the area again.

Dirty cups, toilets stink, cold scrambled eggs served and serving staff who don't smile. Not a pleasant visit.

We had a lovely table looking onto the water & we had coffees & a jug of water! One order was a baked potato & chilli the most generous size ever & the other was the chicken Schwarma on a flatbread with salad … absolutely delicious ! A lovely late lunch as always great service & great food we will return!

Few bars are situated right on the River Clyde. The cafe continental probably has the best view of the few that do. A must go to destination for any one visiting the Glasgow area to take in a sunny afternoon.

Pals afternoon catch up and decided on trip to beautiful Gourock so it could only be Cafe Continental. Lucky enough to get a window table as the views are stunning. Food superb as usual as was service.

The staff are helpful and obliging but it really is very average food and it's not cheap. I had fish and chips and it was truly disappointing, it was actually half a fish fillet and skinny French Fries, very much not the traditional meal you would expect. Mac and cheese was very dry with little flavor. No one in our party actually finished their meal. The whole experience was disappointing to say the least.

Visited here with my mum before visiting my dad in hospital in Greenock. Because we arrived just before noon, we were given the breakfast menu, which was fine by us. Two bacon rolls, one with tattie scone, a flat white, and a pot of tea for just over a tenner. Lovely staff and great views

Having booked a table was disgusted to be offered table at toilet door staff were rude and unapologetic basically take it or leave it - LEFT! They didn’t even care would avoid we certainly won’t be back.

Having made the waitress aware of my query, I'm still waiting for an answer!!! My friend had to leave for a train but we were there long enough for someone to reply!!! I'm not a person who courts confrontation so left without making a fuss!!! They were particularly busy that lunchtime but that's not an excuse to be served food that was raw in places (mince)! I had eaten half way through before spotting what it was!!! The waitress did say she'd make the 'person in charge' aware but I'm still waiting for a reply!!!!! I use this place a lot, so disappointed!!!!!!!

We have been visiting Scotland for years now and always head here, the food and service is exceptional. In fact we have had the same waiter serve us for the last 15 years of visiting . Food was as good as ever as was the fantastic service, thank you guys!

Shameful We were treated appallingly on visiting this restaurant Had invited friends up from Ayr for the day and chose cafe continental for lunch. As soon as we walked in we were approached by a rude waiter and asked to leave and told that my partner was too drunk (he wasnt) We were embarrassed and really couldn’t believe the treatment of us. What was supposed to be a special day was completely ruined. Shame on you - you don’t treat people like this!

We visited for lunch and the cafe was exceptionally busy. Despite this the service was quick and staff were courteous and pleasant. We had fish and chips and a jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw. They were delicious and reasonably priced. The cafe was very clean as were the modern toilets. This was our first visit here but won’t be the last.

The menu sounds interesting and exciting but the food is disappointing. Pakoras were burnt and all dips, sauces and dressings are straight out of a jar. I love slaw but couldn’t eat tne soggy purple cabbage on my sandwich

Recently went here with my family and chose here as we got to park nearby. The menu was fab, I wanted to try everything. Great service and the food was delicious. Will definitely return when next in Gourock.

Haven't been to the Cafe for a while, and was disappointed when i had lunch recently. Soup was awful. A bowl of thick- what could have passed as a side dish in an indian restaurant - cauliflower soup with overload of spices. The same crusty white rolls served with soup for the last 20 years. Atmosphere is non existent, as was the taste from the scones. How can you get it so wrong! Awful music playing and a lack of anything encouraging me back.Make some changes...start to offer things people want these days. Home made rolls or bread, vegetarian/vegan options, change the music, perhaps to something from this century!

My husband and I had lunch here in December 2019. The atmosphere is always good and the views are amazing.We both had nachos, which were served in bowls. I had the vegetarian nachos (guacamole, salsa and sour cream) and my husband had the chilli nachos. Neither of us could fault the taste, but the presentation in a small dessert/soup type bowl leaves a lot to be desired - it made it difficult and messy to eat.I had a chilli burger and my husband had the steak sandwich. Both were tasty and the portions were of a good size.If I'm honest I would visit the cafe more if I felt more welcome. The staff attitude can be a bit of a hit and a miss. It doesn't take much to smile and make the customer (the person who contributes to paying your salary) feel welcome.

Last minute decision to have dinner at the cafe. Three of us chose the special of fillet steak with black pudding. It was the nicest steak I have had in a long while, cooked rare just as I like it. Given this is a busy pub I think the food is always good and great attentive staff who are always there just when you need them.

Normally fantastic views across the Clyde to Dunoon and beyond, not today on a miserable November afternoon. Just as well we had the food to look forward to! Nothing fancy just good quality and always served with a smile. Coffee is great too, we'll worth a visit, just hope you get better views than we did !

Had lunch couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it,was hoping to repeat as king prawn linguini was perfectly cooked. I'm a big fan of great quality food simply cooked. Twice now fantastic and great non intrusive service. For once the view was secondary. Well done.

As usual the cafe gives excellent value for money , the staff are magnificant , beer wine and spirits excellent although could do with price reductions on all the mentioned , £2 for a small bottle of coke is rediculous but over all a good local establishment.

We dropped in for some lunch and were shown to a table by a friendly male member of staff! I had the smoked salmon and Philadelphia cheese sandwich, it was delicious.There was a very generous helping of salmon and a lovely salad accompaniment. My husband had fish and chips which he enjoyed too! A nice pino grigio and a soft drink and we thought the bill was reasonable. Shame we were just passing through but we will come back when in the area.

We loved it so much we dined here 3 nights during our week long holiday in Gourock. Dog friendly which is always a must for us, however the food was simply amazing. I had the Beef Penang one night, Panchetta the other and then Pork Noodles, he had the Fish Broth, Beef Penang and the Haddock - so difficult to choose our fave as they were all divine (and I'm not exaggerating!). Very attentive staff, and the bar man with the beard was brilliant - even giving me a small sample of whiskies to choose from! Thanks for being one of he highlights of our week, we will return!

We visited this café/bar/restaurant on a Saturday morning on route to Glasgow . The service is quick friendly and very knowable about the surrounding area and the stunning views. We only had time for coffee and cakes, both of which were delicious. We will definitely return for lunch on our next visit.

We dropped into cafe continental mid Sunday afternoon and were lucky enough to secure a table for one hour. Seemed to be a few larger parties in but there was a nice buzz about the place. Great views from the huge windows. Mac cheese was ok, not the best (a bit dry like it had been sitting in the oven a long time) but by no means the worse I’ve had. Roast lamb with all the trimmings went down well. Couple of glasses of house red and two excellent espressos set us up for the afternoon. No time for pudding as they really did need the table back within the hour. Recommended if in the area but would suggest booking ahead to enjoy a more leisurely experience.

The venue is excellent with views to die for, with food to match. However, if you want to enjoy your whole night do not stay too late on a Saturday when the DJ starts to play. You won’t be able to hear yourself think never mind hold a conversation. Otherwise perfect venue.

I visited here with my son & Dad after swimming in the local swimming pool. We were seated at our table for roughly 15 minutes before someone came to take our drinks order. Finally after we had ordered our food, it was nearly an hour before it came! My poor son was starving & getting quite restless. The food is lovely but the service could be improved

Went in after swim . Ordered cooked breakfast. Half way through realised fried egg was raw in places. Advised waitress who took plate away without comment. On paying bill asked waiter if he had been advised re egg. He commented yes” have deducted your coffee from bill . No apology. He wasn’t going to mention it as he had handed bill over before I asked. Poor reaction. No even an apology.

Had lunch with a friend , we just got main courses. I had pan fried cod with broccoli and planchette. Beautifully cooked fish all in all very tasty, great service and atmosphere.

We popped into the continental on recommendations from the locals across the river from Gourock, staff were very nice, all the waitresses had smiles on their faces and it was busy in the early afternoon, which is a good sign

Great local place with amazing views, good food and great staff. Laurie in the restaurant is great as are all the rest. Kids looked after as well although no children’s menu.

While the restaurant has a lovely position overlooking the estuary and some window tables have great views , the decor has some nice albeit worn elements to it the experience on a wonderful sunny lunchtime was disappointing . The food was poor quality and did not represent good value for money . I suspect the restaurant is trading on its past reputation too much . The service whilst friendly was not always available when needed and for the price I have to say the experience was not one I will repeat

We visit this 'institution' on a regular basis. It is very popular but that is where the management are resting on their laurels. The food is good and the quality is unquestionable. they have a good range of beers on draft and it is the place to be seen in. There is no doubt that is is extremely popular but clientele are probably not seeing the tardininess of the bar area in particular. My better self and I visited recently, had a good lunch meal but she pointed out that the the bar foot rests and corners were 'manky' I could see that areas were getting tired and overloooked and that indcates that things were in a pretty poor state. If you wish to remain the 'go to place' in Gourock -' take a close look. I am doing you a favour by posting this critique. Ignore and watch the decline.

We really enjoyed our lunch here. The food was good, the service friendl;y, and the view across the river spectacular. Definitely one to visit again.

Portato qui dalla mia ragazza per incontrare a pranzo una sua amica, ho deciso di prendere un piatto a base di pesce (haddock). Posto di mare mi sono detto... Quindi meglio approfittare. Non l'avessi mai fatto. Il pesce sembrava di plastica. Cucinato male, senza alcun sapore e secondo me pure congelato. Pessima esperienza.

3 sisters and wee Mammy had lunch here on the advice of a local.On hindsight we should have left before sitting down. All bar one of the staff seemed to have lost the ability to smile, the person who I assumed was management? Also seemed to have neck issues as she didn’t even bother to lift her head to say hello. Anyway, we ordered lunch , 2 of us had the Crab Linguine from the specials board, one had the haddock and chips and the other had the steak sandwich. The Crab Linguine.... it wasn’t bad, it was bland, under seasoned with tasteless chilli and over cooked crab, was the crab fresh? This I do not know... If it was if it was way over cooked. The steak sandwich was simply blah! Nothing special, it came with sweet potato fries though that were fab! Our wee Mammy had the haddock which was simply delicious though.

My husband and I took his parents out for lunch here and they enjoyed every minute. The food was delicious and the view was fantastic! Definitely a wee treat if you are looking for a lunch in Gourock

We ordered the 30-day aged steak and the steak pie for lunch and it didn’t disappoint! Nothing great but we enjoyed eating and finishing all of it! Was fairly good! The view from the restaurant is amazing! Staff’s service is just ok - they were friendly and accommodating. Will go back again.
