Empress Of India in Sutton

Placed an order for delivery , an hour and a half later I rang and was told it would be 10-15 mins . I asked if that was true we would but if it’s longer we will turn delivery away . I was told abruptly they don’t know so cancel the order . Very poor customer relation skill , regardless I would never place an order with them again .

Delicious food, really good service, waiters were really nice and so was the food 10/10 would recommend going

The empress of India is one of our all time, old favourite restaurants. Although we’ve tried a few others in the area we tend to come back to empress much more.

We recently had an 18th birthday party for a group of 16 people, the food was excellent and it was very good value for the money. The service was fast and friendly. I highly recommend it.

We used to visit Empress of India frequently and then we moved out of the area. Recently we visited some friends and family from the area and we thought to go eat there to see how it’s doing. I’m glad to see it’s still one of the best in the area ,it’s been a family-fun restaurant and I was happy to see the same chef there. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, it brought back memories and we would recommend it to anyone.

9 of us went from work. Quick service. Good menu and prices. Food was tasty and we all had clean plates. The staff could be a bit smarter and the toilets a bit cleaner.

My family and I thought we would try something new a restaurant that we had never tried before. we arrived to friendly staff (the only saving grace) and then we ordered the set menu for 2 which was plenty enough for three of us. The onion barji was dry and flavourless, the sizzling chicken tikka again no flavour and tasted almost like it had been cooked the day before and just reheated. Then the main course came and as well as there bringing flies inside the restaurant we were presented with the blandest curry I have ever tasted it was runny, watery and greasy. Also the rice was oily and the whole meal left us with a nasty after taste in our mouths which was a shame as the whole family fancied a "nice" curry. After the main course we had ice cream and we was all thinking at least we will have some nice ice cream again we was wrong the ice cream was so old there was Chunks of ice inside the scoops and there was more ice than ice cream. it was inedible. £40 not well spent .

Got a take away after being recommend this restaurant, must say very disappointed. Prawn purees tasteless and lackng prawns. Chicken tikka masalas and Kormas again tasteless and very runny. The chicken was very bland and appeared to be full of water. We also had three dishes from chefs recommended section on menus, ok but not very spicy, best to ask for added chilli if you like it spicey. This is the 1st real negative review I have ever written so feel a bit bad, I hope it is taken in good faith and acted upon. Although I had a take away I would agree with other comments that the restaurant is in need of a good refurd as on collection I noticed that the place felt very bland.

I went with a few friends as I was led to believe it was an old fashioned Indian restaurant experience. Sadly I was misled: no booths or flock wall paper. I was a bit confused by the fish tank too. I associate that with Chinese. Anyway, the poppadoms were great, with an above average selection of dips. The mains were decent enough but not overly noteworthy. It’s next door to an impressive looking Chinese restaurant next door and if I’d have had the choice I might well have gone there. All in all decent but unremarkable. I might use it for a takeaway as I enjoyed the tarka dhal but wouldn’t rush back to eat in.

We have eaten at this restaurant for many years. Food quality and service is always good and the chef is quite happy to add/reduce spice levels to suit your taste.The waiters are also happy to arrange for you to take-away any left-overs if you wish. Prices are very reasonable too - expect to pay no more than £20 p/h including drinks. Take away service also available. Recommended and we will continue to return.

On the plus side the portions are fairly large and the menu is pretty good but on the down side the place needs a bit of a refurb and considering the place was fairly quiet the service was slow.

If you're looking for a decent curry at a reasonable price this is your place. It is just average though, nothing special, just an okay local curry house. The restaurant is cosy, with a decent variety on its menu, never overcrowded and the food comes out quickly. A lot of the curries taste very similar and could do with a lot more heat. Can't complain too much because the portions are decent and the prices are reasonable. I've had much nicer indian food but i've paid a lot more for it!

Was a lovely meal. Fantastic service. It wasn't to busy but that's the way I like it. Good flavours and portion sizes were very good. Thanks guys for the enjoyable evening.

Went on a Saturday night and there was only one other table occupied but this didn't bother me or my wife. Good selection of traditional and specialised curries. I had the sheek kebab to start which was very good and nice and hot. I would highly recommend the chicken tikka jalfrezi, nice amount of heat and great flavours. Wife had chilli paneer and green tikka masala which was also very good. Excellent price and staff very friendly. Oh and Cobra on tap yummy.

Curry apareció en rápido tras una visita a un hospital cercano aguja Anthony's Street. No poppadums o entradas principales sólo con arroz y pan y una pinta de coca cola Light. Servicio rápido y la comida bastante sabrosa, Keema Naan era genial! ! ! Gran relación calidad-precio en 14 libras.

We love the Empress and always find the food and service to be consistently excellent. It's a little old school but that's exactly how I like it.

It was busy when we went but the food was tasteless , i complained about the lamb that i wanted the chewy one on the skewers grilled not a stew boiled one, they brought the wrong one and then charged me when i gave it back to be swapped, wont be going again

Fuimos un domingo por la tarde y sólo había otra mesa ocupada. Un buffet estaba en oferta y el había una variedad de la comida, que era muy sabroso y muy buena relación calidad-precio, menos de 8 libras por adulto. El servicio era genial, porque el restaurante no estaba lleno, pero el personal era lo suficientemente amable.

Went with my family for Sunday lunch. They did buffet on Sunday. Very disappointed. Only 4-5 choices on main dishes and 2 appetiser. No deserts on buffet. Food is not brilliant. Customer services ok.

Éramos 3 parejas y nos fuimos el domingo 20 de noviembre para una comida muy temprano a las 7 de la tarde. Qué puedo decir de comida es excelente, muy buen servicio, comida caliente, cerveza fría y cobra un entorno agradable. El Tandoori grill mixto fue el mejor que he comido nunca y puedo recomendar este plato. Buena relación calidad-precio y espero en mi próxima visita.

Necesitaba un curry, así que cogimos a mis hijos a la emperatriz de la India en una noche de viernes. Entrantes eran buenas. El servicio era amable y eficiente. Pedí un Madras que era suave en sabor. Debería estar caliente, así que fue una decepción. ¿Por qué varían tanto de restaurante a restaurante. . . .

Qué puedo decir, la comida siempre es perfecto, recién preparados y cocinados a la perfección. El menú abarca todos los gustos (incluso no comen curry). El personal es muy amable y los precios muy razonables.

La primera impresión, un bonito y limpio establecimiento. Sin embargo, no era mucho antes nos decepcionó por nuestra comida, que, después de todo, era lo que estábamos allí! Todo estaba servido frío! . El pollo y el cordero dopiaza shaslik ambas eran apenas tibia. Un típico shaslik llega hasta chisporrotea. Este sin duda no! No había humo o ruido pone, sólo un aspecto regular ofreciendo curry Y FRÍO para arrancar!! También enviamos nuestros dos panes naan volver porque eran demasiado pastoso. Básicamente, que no estaban cocidos. Cuando salimos de nuestra comida como el director nos dijo que debíamos he pedido nuestra naan de ser bien preparado. Realmente? Nunca, jamás a mi marido o solicite nuestro pedido en un indio para ser acompañados por pan naan bien preparado!! De todos modos, pagué la cuenta y salimos y ahora felizmente tanto meter al calor en una porción de patatas fritas cada uno de los locales que son 100 veces chippie mejor que la comida fría y sin cocer de la Emperatriz de la India.

It was a great place, food was excellent the staff was funny and friendly and the price was responsible, i will different go the again with my family.

My Girlfriend and I came here for dinner the other night and the food was brilliant, along with the service. Will def definitely be back for more.

After reading the majority of good reviews, I visited the restaurant tonight. The food was dreadful as was the rude service. The positive reviews have probably been written by friends and family of the management and the bad reviews are the true ones. The onion bahjis were hard and dry, I had to send back the Lahore grilled prawn dish as the prawns were tough and over cooked and when substituted for chicken in the same sauce, the sauce bore no similarity, was bland, and stale pre-cooked tandoori chicken was tossed in. When I told the waiter the second dish was inedible, he pulled a face, poked out his tongue and walked away. My friend asked for pineapple juice and was given apple and twice asked for no ice and the drink came with ice. Absolutely dreadful service and inedible food. The reason they may look busy in there is because the superior and great Emperor next door but one is so popular, that people make their way to the Empress when they cannot get into The Emperor. We had to argue to take both dishes not eaten off the bill. Avoid this place at all costs. This is Indian food at its worse and the waiters should have training in civility, enthusiasm and customer service.

Very good at what it does food is always up-to scratch. The waiters are always ready to help you if you can not make you mind up on what Curry to choose from.

The most authentic curry restaurant I've eaten in. The food is amazing and chef happy to put different sauces to various vegetables or meat. He uses pure spices and if you really know how good curry should taste then this won't disappoint. Raj is so welcoming and never forgets a face. We've eaten here for more than 7 years and I can't fault the food, hospitality and menu prices. A place to truly eat in...but you may have to book as they become full very quick!

Good quality food at a reasonable price, plus the Cobra beer and wine are a good price. A drink on the house is offered when you ask for bill, plus an after eight mint. Nice touch

An old school curry house. Decor was a little dated and service could have been a little faster but was friendly nonetheless. Food was fine and though my bhaji was not necessarily to my liking my balti was. Drinks were complimentary. I have no idea why but may account for how reasonable the bill was. Came out feeling satisfied.

Food was amazing and the staff were very accommodating! Would definitely recommend and I will most definitely be returning.

We have been going to the Empress of India, over 20 years. Despite the changes of staff over the years, the food and friendly service has always been excellent. If we've had any query ( and it's hard to remember one ), the manager /staff response has been instant.If you like curries, please give this restaurant a go, when you're in the area. You won't be disappointed.It's always worth booking Fri / Sat.

My first time eating here, I went with some others who had been before. The owner stormed over to our table when we were ordering drinks and told us that we had to spend a minimum of £12-15 per head as it was a busy night, however the restaurant was empty! He was incredibly rude and had no right to tell us how much we should spend before we had even ordered. I was disgusted at the way we were treated and will NEVER return to this awfully mannered restaurant. The owner didn't apologise for being so rude and he really doesn't know how to treat customers. We left this place feeling horrified at the way we were spoken to, but went on to have a wonderful evening at Bay Leaves!

Tasty food, good portions, well presented.Service was good despite being very busy.Cost was reasonable.Would recommend, you would need to book on weekends
