Emperors in Warwick

We have used this restaurant a lot over the years but hadn’t been for quite a while. Our table was booked for 7pm. The decor is looking very drab and tired, the entrance in particular, and a refresh is urgently required. In the past waiting staff were attentive and would enquire as to how the meal was…..not on this visit. A small point I agree but indicates non-interest. The adjacent table housed 5 adults and 4 children aged around 4/5 years. Initially the children had toys to occupy them. Good plan perhaps but then one of the mothers started to join in with her own sound effects…not so good. During the meal the children started going “walkabouts” causing a couple of near misses with waiting staff, all to the accompaniment of squeaky kiddy voices. There were other tables with youngish children, also not really interested in the food, and it was just like being in a crèche. Not blaming the staff but why do parents think that it’s a good idea to bring their tiny tots who, get overtired, to such an establishment when they should clearly be in bed. The whole ambience was ruined for us. FOR THAT REASON I HAVE RATED DOWN BUT THE FOOD IS STILL 4/5 *

Rudest restaurant in leamington spa so we have been here for 5 years and when it’s changed there is a very rude a staff there a man that’s very rude and abrupt and the restaurant has gone down hill So they don’t care about loyalty and they just gave meat instead of vegetarian food no apologies I don’t think understand the meaning of people that are vegeterian and religion The owner still not rang me the manager just says I didnt take your order and no one wants to admit who took the order which is pathetic they should own up to it The owner has no decency to call up but watch this restaurant go down cause of management

Very disappointing. Had to send food back TWICE bc it was frozen/cold inside. Horrendous customer service, food was tasteless, awful awful experience. Used to love this place but obviously new management and chef, absolutely waste of money. Will not be returning.

Went Saturday night and spent 122.40 but what a waste of money. The coke i ordered was flat It took an hr after starters for our main course to arrive Then my husbands order of the Singapore noodles were so salty and as was the schezwhan chicken. My chicken in satay sauce was disgusting...the satay sauce was so watery. I have to say from what use to be a good restaurant this was awful. The emperor is not like it use to be. Today both my husband and I have upset stomach's. I will not be going back there again.

From the outside, nothing really stood out, except that the parking availability was convenient. Upon entering though, a different scenario entirely. A lovely atmosphere, with beautiful moody, ornate decor. We were welcomed immediately and seated in a wonderful room, with plenty of space. The food arrived promptly, and was honestly some of the best food we've ever tasted. Full of flavour and obviously cooked with care and passion. The staff are helpful, straight talking and left us to eat in peace, though there instantly if needed. The price is low for what level of service and food you receive, and I would highly recommend.

Shared a lovely meal here with my wife. The staff were friendly and the service good. We didn't wait long for our food which was lovely and the meal was not expensive for what we had.

My family and I went out for my mother’s birthday. We’ve not been to the Emperors for a number of years, but the menu doesn’t seem to have changed. What we did eat was extremely average. The duck was very tough and hard to chew. The service was adequate, but if we asked the waiters for anything we felt, we were being a nuisance. It was like eating in a canteen! We could definitely not recommend the restaurant to anybody and we will not be returning

Booked lunch and asked to go at 12 as number of us - only people for the whole of lunch service - baffling - restaurant really shabby compared to previous visits - one waitress really didn't seem to want us there

I searched online with my partner some asian restaurants and this came up, we were really excited as it was our first visit, TERRIBLE, I do not recommend anyone visit this place, is not worth it, prices are reasonable but portions and quality are very low, for an asian restaurant the food was tasteless. However, the worst thing of it all was the staff, they were very rude and cold, and I was having a bad day and the lady looked at us over the shoulder and with contempt which I find very disrespectful and also made me feel awful. If I could rate -10 I would definitely do it.

Best Kung Po chicken I've ever had in a restaurant. Spicy, tangy but no sickly sweetness. Perfect.

The food is excellent which is the only reason I’ve gone back. The service on the other hand is quite bad - zero customer service skills from two of the ladies that work there. The larger lady very rude. When I asked for some additional sauce, was flatly told ‘no you can’t have it’. Asked again on the second visit and was told it would be an additional £2, which I feel was really taking the p***. If you want authentic Cantonese food then you can’t go wrong, however be prepared to be treated like you’re an inconvenience. The male member of staff is quite friendly.

Revisit after many years and very little has changed. The food was in general very good and plentiful. We enjoyed mixed starters and duck pancakes particularly although the fried aubergine that we all remembered was not quite as good as we were hoping. Very pleasant service as usual.

We had a very excellent meal at the Emperor between Christmas and the New Year. Good buzz and attentive service . 4 of us went for the set Szechuan Style Menu . Great Spicy Hot and Sour Soup to start proceedings - served from a Tureen at the table and tureen left for add helpings. Crispy duck and pancakes followed- again excellent and then 5 hot dishes , incursions egg fried rice , prawns and sea bass - all freshly cooked and delicious Really enjoyed the meal and good value at £26 pp. Will go back when next in Leamington Spa

Very disappointed for our first and last visit. My husband and I were so looking forward to our dinner at Emperors, however it was a terrible experience. None greeted us when we got there, we had to ask to be sited, even when we had a reservation. We felt rush most of the time and staff was VERY rude; on top of it food is very expensive and wasn’t great at all, portions are small and there was more onion and ginger than meat. I had half roasted crispy duck (£23) as main and I honestly feel like It was a ripped off with the little amount of meat served. We are definitely not coming back.

The food was absolutely delicious. My wife and son both had the Dim Sum to share and said it was wonderful. I had the Spring Rolls, the best I have ever tasted. For the main course, my son had Sizzling Satay Chicken, my wife had King Prawns with Ginger Garlic and Chilli, and I had Crispy Duck with Plum Sauce. We all agreed that it was the best Cantonese food we had ever tasted. What a shame that we were the only ones in the restaurant. We will certainly return.

Going further downhill. The food is totally fine not one single issue there. But the service. It’s better at maccies !! Why is this place going like this ? Lack of understanding of English language and staff huffing and puffing if you dare ask for anything and getting orders wrong. Really has lost its edge and such a shame.

We arrived on time, the restaurant was busy - always a good sign. We waited 5-10 mins for anyone to acknowledge and seat us but from then it was a lot better. We gave our order and was seated and served quickly. The set menu for 4 was plentiful and tasty. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend.

Tucked away off the high street it has a beautiful and spacious interior. Service was swift but the portions were disappointing, lacking both in flavour and quantity.

Service was a bit abrupt. Several times when I was talking the waiters leaned in front of me so we couldn't carry on the conversation. Expensive but the food was nice, not outstanding.

Emperors is by far the best Chinese restaurant in Leamington, the food is great! In particular the Yuk Sung and the Young Chow Rice are amazing (all good though), there's been a lot of work put in to the decor, so it feels like somewhere you can visit for a special occasion, but the staff are always very friendly if you're just dropping by instead - 10/10 excellent establishment.

Two of us went for lunch. Service ultra efficient but impersonal. Surprisingly no lunch menu so we had the £24 each banquet plus two beers. Food average, the prawn crackers still taste weirdly fishy. The shock was the bill, they'd charged £6 for each small beer so total cost £60 for lunch! Definitely not recommended for lunch.

Always amazing food. Will only come to this restaurant for Chinese dishes. The nicest staff, wonderful atmosphere and clean, tasty food.

Went there after a few years. Unfortunately the quality of the food and service have deteriorated. Unlikely will go back soon; our local Chinese offers more appetising dishes. This place is not what it used to be. Steep price rise on top leads to this 2 star review.

15 minutes to be asked what we wanted to drink. Half an hour before we were asked for our food order. An hour before we got our starters. Over 2 hours for the main courses to arrive. The food was lovely, but by the time it arrived my daughter was fast asleep with her head on the table.

The food is superb, a very wide choice and cooked to a very high standard, excellent starters selection for three. The ambience is good, but the service was a bit brusque and haphazard.

Have been going for 20+ years. Exceptional food, atmosphere and service. We drive miles to go here. A bit special.

When we eventually left, the staff had their coats on and leaving with us. I had booked this in advance too, so the restaurant were well aware of our arrival. Went for a meal with work colleagues. The meal was ok. Not the best I had in the area. The atmosphere was nice. A bit dark place tho. The staff were nice and helpful.

Went for a friend's birthday and was very impressed. It's not especially cheap but is very much worth the money. I had a chicken satay followed by a lamb dish which were both fantastic, and everyone else loved their dishes as well. Service was quick and friendly too.

A ruined 60th Birthday…! My friends have been frequent visitors of Emperors Chinese restaurant for years however after last Friday we will now NEVER go back! For my 60th birthday we decided to go and have a meal at Emperors They suggested they would bring out a tiny cake as part of the birthday celebration … great we thought ..! …However when the bill came they expected us to pay for the birthday cake as a desert . I questioned it and requested to speak to a supervisor, but they declined to speak with me and said I had to pay for the small birthday cake. I was also say the food is dropped on your table, haphazard with no finesse at all …they practically turfed it onto the table . If you don’t believe me about the cake, ..?please see the attached bill Best to find yourself another another Chinese restaurant, because that’s what we’re doing !!!

Love this Cantonese restaurant - always go for a set menu when we visit with friends as you get a good variety. Food always delicious, staff friendly, service efficient. We always make a reservation as we tend to go on a Saturday evening and they are busy.

Lovely Cantonese food and very good service. Midweek evening so a little quiet as you would expect.

The antithesis of Mcdonalds. Good, good, food, great for sharing in big groups with the rotary centre of table. Respectably priced but completely full even on a weekday Thursday night! Will go again xx

We visited with friends on a Saturday and whilst very busy there was no real waiting. The food and service were excellent and we will definitely return

Food was good, best sizzling chicken, ginger and spring onion dish we have had. Duck pancakes are good but I have had better. Service was very friendly but a little slow for us. We lived the atmosphere. I would definitely go back and would recommend it.

Food was lovely as always. However the service was pretty poor despite the restaurant being very quiet with only 3 other tables. Had our bill messed up 3 times with extra things being added to our order and dishes that actually had been ordered not coming. When we politely pointed this out the lady waiters we were served by were rude and treated us like we were the inconvenience even going as far as going and checking with the kitchen to check we were being truthful. Disappointed.

Emperor's has a lot going for it, the décor is amazing (love the turning tables!) and the food never disappoints: tasty and exciting with an authentic feel. However the service has gone downhill in the last few years, it seems clear that they're struggling to keep good waiting staff besides the couple of older Chinese ladies that always do a great job. While manageable during the week, the staff is overwhelmed when it's very busy and I would avoid going there on a Saturday night.

I wish we had read the reviews before we visited ---definately NOT what it was the ribs where very tough the Peking duck was dry and fairly tatseless the sweet and sour chicken was ------ chewy---- the sinapore noodles where fairly tasteles and as others said the bill was NOT iemised and now realise we where overcharged by just 11% the Micehlin rating needs to be reviewed !! -------

Good reasonably priced Chinese food in nice dining room. Service was very good and food served efficiently. Clearly very popular, very busy but super pleasant atmosphere.

Had a superb family evening with one of the banquet menus. Great atmosphere, hasn't changed in donkeys ' years.

reception area was stacked with chairs and very unwelcoming, this used to be a nice area where you could sir and inspect menu whilst having an aperitiff and meet your friends etc, now looks like a train station in Siberia. cold unwelcoming. Restaurant was buzzing, staff were poor, bad language skills, no idea of etiquette, loads of kids serving, the boss was very friendless, food was good and not more expensive than competitors, all in all, sadly, not a destination venue, and so ,would not go there again for a special occasion meal/event, shame as it for 30 odd years it was the ,go to , place for cantonese. keith fairbrother

Lovely food, service was a little slow

Nice food in lovely surroundings. Food was hot with most standard dishes costing £11 each. A few vegetarian dishes were on offer, including tofu where you could choose the sauce. The duck in hoisin sauce is literally a duck breast with a small dipping sauce on the side. Tasted good, but not what was expected. Service was fine as the restaurant was very busy. We were not chased for buying extra drinks, which was good, but conversely no one came back to ask if we were ok despite taking a bottle away.

Always fabulous food Best Chinese in town

Food was very good but the place is a bit dated, very damp and loose plasterboard on the ceiling where they meet you on arrival. Toilets ok, the doors had been painted but no coat hooks to hang your bag as they are quite small toilets. It's the small details that make all the difference. It was also rather chilly which made dinner a little bit uncomfortable, some people were sat with their coats on. Hopefully they will recoup some costs so they can have the heating on and sort the damp out. Lady that served us very nice. I have since been back & the place has been painted and the ceiling sorted out.

This is up there with some of the best Chinese food I’ve tasted. Considering I used to live in China, I’ve experienced a great variety of Chinese cuisine and Emperors easily matches some of the absolute best for the quality and consistency of their food. I saw a couple of reviews that mentioned the decor/toilets etc. I think that’s a little unfair given most restaurants have been in survival mode for nearly 2 years. Personally I like the decor and ambience. I would highly recommend the salt and chilli fried aubergine but you can’t really go wrong with anything on this small but well perfected menu.

There's something Kafkaesque about being sentimentally loyal to a nondescript Chinese restaurant at the bottom of town, yet only ever treated with indifference from the staff. Every Christmas Eve, the same process of booking a table, then being seated to wait to be seated at said table... in order to wait even longer for food to arrive. And the only way to expedite the ritual is to be rude to the maître d'.

I've been so disappointed with Chinese restaurants lately. Those that have not adopted the ubiquitous tacky all-you-can-eat buffet style seem to have become over-priced and tacky. We were recommended Emperors by friends and my wife had visited with party from work some time ago. I read the review before visiting and did not know quire what to expect. There were four adults in our party, a weekend night during Covid conditions.We chose the mid range set meal for four with an additional sweet and sour chicken a favourite of one of the party. Although the waiter did say they would substitute a dish from the set menu if we wanted.The service was quick and friendly, the waiters were attentive. The food was outstanding! It probably not authentic Cantonese but familiar and very well done. Probably the best prawns I have ever had although all dishes were distinct and flavoursome.We all decided that despite having to travel some distance, we would be back.

Amazing food, gorgeous setting!

Having dined at emperors many many times over the years its almost always been great , but last nights visit was far below what has been expected. Small portions ,prices increased, poor table service, staff not clearing the table, leaving empty glasses , food on the table when it used to be swept away. A bill of £80 for 3 is top end , and quite frankly not good enough. Wont be back until I see some serious improvements and getting back to the old emperors.

The best Chinese restaurant in town. There’s a great atmosphere, unusual in other places that we’ve visited. You’re initially seated in the bar area, then called to your table when your food is ready, which is a nice touch. Would recommend the mixed platter to start and satay chicken.

I'd been to the Emperors restaurant several times before and always had a good experience. It had been a few years since my last visit so was looking forward to this one. Unfortunately it was a big disappointment. We arrived at our booking time an were sat at a table. All the tables were 'distanced' so that was all good. However it then took 30 minutes for someone to actually take our order. A lot of waiting staff running around, in a restaurant which was not that busy, but not a lot of action. Crackers were brought to the table but were served on a paper plate....! A 'high' end restaurant serving food on the cheapest nastiest paper plates you'd find in a supermarket. There was no one person on the waiting staff managing our table it seemed to be that any one of them could bring things to the table. As a result cutlery was missing, food was brought at different times , we had to ask for missing items. Basis 101 in managing a restaurant and customer service. Most of the food was tasty. Disappointed, was going to give three stars but as I write this I think it has to be two. Room for much improvement and I'd think twice about going back.

Popped in on route home after a quick search on the internet. Firstly this restaurant comply fully with Covid 19 guidelines fully .We was greeted by friendly staff, a good menu with a lot of familiar dishes .Service was prompt and helpful. Dishes was tasty and a decent size.The restaurant is very impressive in decor, so room for social distancing. Yes I would agree the prices are a bit more then usual Chinese places but this is reflected in the high quality of dishes.

We have just visited this restaurant for the first time as it came recommended from quite a lot of people for the quality of the food. The pluses first - quite pretty decor and good for families with tables well spaced. Pleasant food which I enjoyed. Negatives - totally indifferent service. Staff made no attempt to engage with the customers. They were quite rude and unsmiling. We might just as well have been served by automatons as there was no difference. My main irritation was with the bill - it was not itemised so we could not see what we had had. We were presented with just an amount to pay and when my husband asked for an itemised one this was refused. This immediately makes you think something has been added. First time I have ever experienced this and not sure if this practice is even legal in the UK. In hindsight we should have insisted on being shown the bill on the till! Need I say we wont be returning and I don't expect this review will even receive the courtesy of a reply - they are just not bothered!

Great food and atmosphere. Lovely experience

Last night I ordered 2 x Szechuan Style Set Menu for 2 takeaway ie to feed 4. I was in a hurry when I collected so did not fully check. When I got home I found that I was missing 2 of the dishes from one of the meals and the rice was only sufficient for 2 people not 4.The food was lovely but at £18.50 x 4 was extremely poor value for money given missing content. We went to bed hungry!!

Would be good if they answered the phones. Called numerous times to book no one would answer either number found on their website or google. I decided to turn up only to be bluntly told "fully booked all night". Waste of time.
