Emily's in Derby

Best steak in derby. I am a very avid steak eater and Emily's is definitely the best steak house in derby (and i've tried nearly all of them). The food is excellent and really good value, the service is just as good! I really look forward to coming back again soon.

Just enjoyed a lovely meal here, our first visit. The steaks were very good service and atmosphere very pleasant. Would certainly return here in the future. I’d advise booking if you wish to visit.

Lovely owner, great to chat too, quality steak well cooked. Garlic mushrooms great. Sauces runny and port and Stilton one had no Stilton taste. Overall though good meal nice homemade chips.

Emily’s is an intimate experience: it’s quite small with only a few tables. It feels a bit like you’re eating in someone’s front room. Ours was quite a large party but the service was excellent- all diners were served at the same time, regardless of their menu choice. The steak was nice and tasty and the pepper sauce was superb. The chips were a little bitty, but were great. The downside for me was the price: it was £35 for sirloin steak, chips and peas; anything else was extra: mushrooms, onion rings, sauces- most of which normally accompany the steak as part of the meal- especially at this price point. We didn’t go overboard with drinks ( a couple each, including wine) and my partner only had water. We had no starters or puddings, yet it came to well over £50 a head. Even though I enjoyed my meal, I left feeling a little disappointed, hence my rating.

We never knew this was here until it was recommended by some friends. We would 100% recommend and we will definitely be back! The whole experience was 10/10, the staff were superb and the food was amazing. The best steak I have ever had. The chips were incredible too, I don’t know what they were cooked in but they were cooked to perfection. Excellent service too and a lovely touch of a baileys on the house!

We went to emilees a group of us our two experince not speaking for the others we has burgers with were good but the desserts we waited a while to be very disappointed my home made bread butter was very dry and one mouth full very expensive apple crumble was below average yet again not worth the wait for the price we observed they showed them to a dirty table group of people to a table which was not cleaned she cleaned it while they were seated which I dont get

I travelled a 90 mile round trip to have a family meal to find it wasn’t what we thought it would be. We looked online at the pictures and the meal didn’t meet our expectations. We ordered a 32 oz steak, two lots of fish and chips and a 14oz burger. The steak was tough and dry and the chips were fatty and covered with scraps. The fish was half the size of the picture online. For the price of £118, it was a rip off. When we complained about it, they did not want to know. The fish they advertise is nothing like you get, the steak looked good but was dry and tough. The meal is over priced - be aware.

Wow, what an amazing experience. Had the Crab Pot started which was prepared in house. So fresh with lovely side salad. My Steak was 16oz Rib Eye on the bone…..can hardly sum up the juciness and flavour of this medium rare beast, just divine. The onion ring tower was delicious too 😋😋😋. Even better was Emily, what a lovely and attentive lady. Spent time talking with us, so friendly. Can’t wait to come back here. This is a plain looking restaurant and a little way out of the centre, you have to walk out your way to find it. But boy is it worth finding! Had prawns for starters and very good, but had a ribeye on the bone for my main cooked rare. All I can say is can't remember when I had a better steak, served with chips like my Mam used to make not the best looking but lovely. The onion rings unreal, mushrooms a bit on the hard side but minor problem. Bread and butter pudding to finish, a little bland but ok. This place is a hidden gem and Emily was lovely and nothing was a problem for her.Shame it's so far away, but will return.

Great food , great atmosphere and super owner. - we booked last minute on a Tuesday night after a long day at Alton towers. All the family love our steaks and we wasn’t disappointed! The medium and rare steaks was all cooked to perfection, the homemade chips was probably the best we have had, they were really tasty. Emily was very welcoming, from taking our temperatures at the door to serving our meals. Very chatty and took her time to answer our questions. She recommended the onion rings as a side - definitely worth getting- not the frozen ones that you sometimes get, again homemade and presented really nice. The deserts are great too, we tried the apple crumble , jam roly poly and chocolate cake- everyone very happy and we all left full!

Excuse what might seem like an over enthusiastic title but seriously have just had one of the most surprisingly excellent meals I have ever eaten.Quick visit to Derby for a stop over on our way to Alton Towers, we really fancied a steak and asked our son to suss out online a local place to eat with fairly low expectations. On first view, we almost decided to swerve and to go to our tried and tested chain restaurant as it’s what we know -thank goodness we didn’t as we would have missed a total delight. THE most unbelievably delicious steak of the highest quality was not what we were expecting on a grey Tuesday night in Derby! We are picky foodies but the honest home cooked quality of the food here was outstanding. Top this with a truly warm and personal service from the owner and her team made us feel like locals. Gutted we live 160 miles away or we would be a new favourite. Don’t hesitate, go and enjoy.

We had the most amazing time at Emily’s. The staff are so welcoming and helpful, it’s like being apart of the family. The food as always was epic, steak was cooked to perfection. We had been regulars back when it opened and had moved away. On our first visit back to the area and it was top of our must visit list and it did not disappoint. We will not leave it so long next time to visit again. Best steak we have every had.

I visited the restaurant with my friend and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and they kindly cut up my steak for me as I had a broken wrist. We also felt very safe as everyone was well spaced out and everything was very clean.

We decided to order by phone and collect for our dine in for two with a bottle of wine. We both had the peppered steak dish which was superbly cooked to our liking with a side of perfectly cooked chips and onion rings. The meal was delicious . Easy to order via their telephone ordering service and pay via a BACS transfer for collection at a convenient time. Would highly recommend the takeaway service. Thanks again.

I love steak a lots and out of all the steaks I eaten before around different places, Emily’s Steak is the most outstanding out of all the steak I have eat. Steak is not dry, chips are crispy, the mushroom just pack in flavours.

I love Emily’s... the homely feel, the humble decor, the friendliness and great service from staff all create a nice atmosphere ... most importantly the amazing steaks!! ... I just thoroughly enjoy my food every time I eat here ... yes it’s a little more expensive than other places but the quality of the food is worth it... everything is homemade ... the chips with the parsnip shavings .. and we always order a side of onion rings which are to die for!!Overall highly recommend this lovely little independent restaurant.... Booking was excellent, paid deposit online to secure table during Eat-out-to-help-out. Tables were well spaced and staff fully kitted out in PPE.Menu is still very good and my wife was pleased with the non-meat choices. Her scampi was fabulous. I had the 16oz rump cooked med-rare with stilton. Was cooked perfectly. Chips were yummy and the staff were a delight.Thoroughly recommended.

I really cannot fault Emily's. The staff, the food and not only the most perfect steaks but they do the best chips I have ever tasted, always have extra. They will always go that extra mile, we wanted to order some larger steaks that were not on the menu and this was no problem for them at all. Highly recommended as usual. Finally very Covid aware with masks, sanitisers and social distancing.

Visited emily's for an evening meal very welcoming table service was great but the best part was the food one word Wow! Will definitely return when visiting Derby again. Homemade chips are delish! Having spent the day cleaning and not having much in to eat I decided to treat myself to a steak at Emily’s as it’s one of few restaurants I’m happy to eat at by myself. Having eaten here many times I knew my steak would be cooked to perfection and I was not disappointed. I have ordered steak in other restaurants but have never enjoyed it. I had not realised how much I had missed their home made chips and onion rings. I felt safe eating their, Emily was wearing a mask and they have 3 hand sanitisers in different parts of the restaurant and temperature checks on arriving. Different groups of diners were spaced out in line with social distancing plus they have screens for extra protection.

All the meals were excellent, my husband's steak was cooked just as he likes it, and the creamy pepper sauce was to die for, my daughter's chicken caesar salad was excellent, the onion rings particularly tasty and the chips were wonderful, my stock pot was very tasty and peppery. I had an Irish coffee which was very creamy and looked just like a Guiness.

Came here for the first time on 25th of August and I really wasn’t impressed with the place at all we dined in the back and I just didn’t feel like a steak house the curtains where not hung up properly and it looked terrible. I found it very strange to see a picture up of a Chinese lady in a steak house I found quite a few cob webs in the toilet the windows looked Filthy food was ok the steak was nice but the chips where dry and Crispy One of the waitresses started spraying around people who where eating saying she was Sanitising i did find that quite wrong spraying while people are trying to eat there food. I don’t think I’ll be rushing back here.
