Visited for Sunday lunch, v friendly meet and greet, limited menu, we ate lamb and beef roast dinners, well presented, v tasty and large portions, served with good wine and Loweswater Gold beer. Another excellent lunch, many thanks, we will return.

We had Sunday Lunch (beef) and it was so tasty. Tender beef, veg full of flavour and delicious gravy to complete a top class lunch. Sticky Toffee Pudding was pretty good too. The team were happy and helpful too. If there was another Sunday in our holiday I’d be back for another plateful.

We had booked a table the week before but on arrival they had no record of us in the diary. My husband found the call in his phone to prove this as we felt they thought we were making it up. We we sat in the bar area on a table beside the entrance to the restaurant, everything someone went through they would trip over my chair even when it was pulled right in. We ordered a starter and main each. The starter appeared about 10 mins after ordering. I had scallops which were nothing special, 2 scallops and black pudding. My steak was nice and cooked well. We had arrived eaten 2 courses and paid our bill within 45 min. I felt like we were in the way. It didn't feel welcome and it felt like the people staying there weren't there for exploring the hills. We returned to our accommodation which was friendly and welcoming. My 3 stars are for the restaurant side as we didn't stay. We won't be returning

10/10 WOW! We visited the Eltermere inn for an afternoon tea and was greeted by the lovely Sarah who is amazing at her job and nothing was too much hassle! The food was truly stunning and there was almost too much food if that’s possible! After many afternoon teas over the years this has by far been the best we have experienced! Look no further if you are wanting the best of the best, Thankyou!

A lovely setting and beautiful building. Not much choice for a vegetarian (only one main course option) and for someone who only eats fish and white meat (only one option - fish), but four red meat options! Even the soup starter which is generally veg based (French onion soup) had chunks of beef in it and was nothing like French onion. The main courses, although limited in choice were quite nice. The service was not particularly warm and rather brusque.

Visited here recently as was staying on the Langdale estate in our timeshare. Over the past few years we’ve gravitated to eating here more than at the main hotel restaurant. The food was good but I wouldn’t go as far to say it was excellent. They had recently introduced their spring menu and some diners were complaining about the lack of fish and chips etc. To be honest if folks want that kind of food they should go to the local pub! We appreciate staffing in the Lakes overall is a huge problem and noticed (vs last time) that the staff here were different and very new to the job. However both young Indian gentlemen who looked after us were excellent, very friendly and interested in feedback of our experience. We love the place and will probably keep returning to support these local businesses but we feel it is on the expensive side.

Went here for dinner as a group of 4. We had a lovely big table on our own in the dining room, which was excellent. The staff were very friendly and chatty. For starters we had the salmon and the soup. Good portions and beautifully presented. We each had a different main course, with the duck, steak, venison and lamb. All portions were just right and an excellent selection of vegetables. To finish we shared a chocolate mousse and the sticky toffee. All accompanied by a lovely Spanish red wine. Quite expensive but well worth it for a special occasion.

Very dissatisfied with the meal. In particular the main course - two types of lamb with onion, potatoes and jus. Rump of lamb was very tough. When served pink needed to be tenderised first. The lamp croquet was too dry and not enough jus to moisten. Main fault was serving half a Lage onion, undercooked sitting on the plate looking totally out of place. Starters and dessert were adequate.

We spent two nights at this establishment and dined here one evening. There was the option of eating in the dining room or in the bar. We chose the bar as it was so atmospheric. The menu choice was great and the food delicious and a nice portion -- just right. There was a good selection of wines and the bar had a really good offering.

! This very comfortable country house hotel is a great place for Sunday lunch. You can choose to eat in the light and airy dining room with great views of the fells (all very Farrow & Ball and Country Homes & Interiors), or the bar which has something of a dark oak Elizabethan feel to it. Food is of a high standard with a short, appetising menu. The roast beef on a traditional Sunday lunch had a great taste and texture - none of the pale, wet and chewy stuff which is served up in many places. Desserts were also very good. At £23 for 2 courses - very good value for money.

Possibly the slowest service I have ever encountered. Most of the time staff were nowhere to be seen in the dining room and when they were, they only paid attention to the diners they were actually serving. There was an incredibly long wait between starter and main course (more than 30 minutes) and once the food was delivered no one came into the dining room again until it was time go collect the plates. Therefore, I did not comment on the appalling, overcooked, tiny portion of chicken I was given. To have done so would have involved a walk to the kitchen! To cheer ourselves up after this unfortunate experience we ordered Armagnacs to accompany our coffee. The waitress returned and informed us that they only had one serving left! Does no one do stock checks! We declined the suggestion of an inferior product, cancelled the original order and left soon afterwards without leaving a tip.

No habíamos leído comentarios y no sabíamos qué esperar. Definitivamente regresaremos.

We've been here a few times for Sunday roast and other times for just a club sandwich, always excellent. We have also tried the Thai fish broth which is amazing...One of the best Lakeland walks is on the doorstep of this place. It's a loop, which takes in waterfalls and the Cathedral caves as well as rivers and a few pubs too. it's a 2 and a half hour to 3 hour walk. The Eltermere Inn is a great place to put your feet up, enjoy the food/drink and chat. The only downside is, it is sometimes empty so lacking in a bit of atmosphere. We are a group of friends who meet annually in Elterwater for a walking holiday. The highlight of our week has always been a meal at the Elterwater Inn on our last evening together. When booking we asked for our usual table in the bay at the end of the dining room but were told this area was no longer in use and that the hotel was under new management. We were offered an alternative table which was fine. The menu is not as extensive as previously but the prices have increased substantially - perhaps understandable if standards are to be maintained. Sadly this was not the case. The slate platter of chunky bread, olives, oil and vinegar to share between 8 was fine providing you had the strength to lift it from one end of the table to the other. Our starter of rabbit ballotine was very solid and tasteless. The paprika and saffron corn fed chicken tasted good but for some reason was served in a large soup dish, making it difficult to cut. The Mediterranean spring lattice tart was tasty but was accompanied by several very vinegary pickled onions - not the red onions described on the menu. Bearing in mind the price we were paying for the food I was very disappointed to see that our large table for 8 was the only one in the room which did not have a tablecloth of any kind -(perhaps they did not have one large enough)? but the final straw was my discovery that the two rather tacky silver nightlight holders adorning the table held nothing more than cheap plastic barely flickering, battery lights. Surely in a restaurant of this calibre, a real candle would not be too much to ask for.

Just the drive alone was beautiful, but it was also an excellent dinner! The menu was very varied, which was nice to see and what we were looking for. We opted for the bar in the dining room, as it was more casual, and cozier than the main dining room. However, it lacks views of the beautiful scenery. The service was good, but could be improved. There is parking but the road up to the Inn is narrow. Would recommend reservations, but there was plenty dining tables available in both dining rooms if you decide last minute.

Having booked a table for dinner for two in the cosy bar, I found out roughly 2 hours before we were due to dine that this gem of a restaurant had changed hands. We must have been going to Eltermere Inn for the last 7 or 8 years - every time we could get to the Lakes. In the cosy bar, dominated by a slow-burning fire, discreet dim lighting and treasured fish trophies (OK - not everyone will appreciate these), we had fond memories of Spanish stew, dry-aged steak, sticky toffee pudding. Yet you can't stand still. So we were shown to our table. I'm glad to report that the service remains top class. I know the previous owners tried to retain their best staff so that customers always felt welcome and well looked after. I'm also delighted that they have retained an excellent chef. Pressed game terrine starter was followed by smoked duck breast and 21 day aged salted sirloin steak. Excellent flavours, steak was perfectly done. No room for puds.... So overall an excellent meal. Worth trying. But I still feel nervous about future changes - take care of this gem please!!

If you are lucky enough to be staying in Elterwater then you will find two excellent pubs on your doorstep. The bar at the Eltermere is quite atmospheric, the dining room less so. Everyone was eating at the bar the night we went. We recommend the large table in front of the massive 18th century stone fireplace for parties of 6 or 8. Food was good. Think gastropub at fine dining prices and you wont be surprised at the bill! Both the Eltermere Inn and the Britannia were busy, even in November. We were glad we booked.

The menu as a whole looked ok but in truth was pretty ordinary. The wine list, again, was ok but at vastly marked up prices for what was on offer, (all restaurants charge high mark ups but this was beyond reasonable for what was on offer). The ambiance was pleasant with a real fire warming the dining areas. In short I found the restaurant to be pleasant enough but rather pretending to be what it wasn't.

This was a real discovery... a delightful inn serving really top-class food, and with space on a Friday evening without a reservation (admittedly in mid-December - we were told we'd always normally need to reserve). Lovely decor, a smallish and cosy pair of dining rooms, attentive friendly and very on-the-ball staff, and a menu to die for. I went for the vegetarian options, both beautifully presented and with a stunningly wide range of ingredients each - beetroot, radish slices, crisp roasted parsnip slices, pea shoots, goats cheese and more for the starter, and then a gorgeous plate of spinach and mushroom gnocchi as a main with butternut squash, small green leaves, radish slices again, a rich savoury sauce and several other delights too. Jenny meanwhile was tackling a starter of pan seared scallops to start, followed by a main of monkfish wrapped in parma ham with a bouillebaisse base. Quality food, perfectly accompanied by some Montepulciano. This is not a cheap place to eat but rather a little piece of culinary heaven, and worth paying for. The hotel looked lovely too, quirky and stylish but seriously pricey: an ideal place to come though for a rather special occasion. Altogether a delightful find and certainly as good as its reviews suggest. Thank you for a lovely evening!

We have been staying at Langdale annually for about 30 years and we only discovered this gem this year. What a lovely place. The setting is perfect and the food and people a delight. A very interesting menu, and some nice beers. What more can you ask?Not a lot more to say really, you won’t be disappointed, but I would book.We will certainly be back.

We a family of 6 pax ate at this wonderful inn serving excellent food not to mention the lovely grounds it sits on. Go early for dinner and spend time walking the herb garden followed by an aperitif at the bar.

Went to the Inn for lunch today after reading it's review in the Times 'best places to eat' and what a find. It was off the beaten track and well worth the drive for it's stunning location. Beautifully decorated and authentic interior, friendly service which resulted in lovely chat with both owners and new baby. The food was of an exceptional standard and although we ordered one meal for the children to share, the chef thoughtfully plated it up for two (which avoided fighting over the chips!) we stayed on for coffee and board games due to the weather and felt at home, and welcome to do so. If we visit the lakes again I would definitely book accommodation here as I would love to return if not for the food but to spend more time in the surroundings and location.

The Eltermere is in a lovely setting in Elterwater, and the restaurant is very good indeed. There is a choice of a large atmospheric bar area or a more formal restaurant. We ate in the bar which was comfortable and relaxed. The food was excellent, with a vary varied menu. A good selection of wines and beers, and competent service. We had to wait a while for initial service, but had been warned that a table of 12 arrived before us in the restaurant. We will return

We were recommended by the hosts of our lovely B'n'B in Grasmere to walk to nearby Elterwater, stunning; they also recommended we try the local pub for lunch. We found the pub chaotic with no service to speak of (you have to queue for everything) so decided to move on, very disappointed. Just by chance we stumbled upon the Eltermere.Perfect.Lunch on the lawns overlooking Elterwater Lake; great service, super food ( set lunch £18 ) reasonably priced wine ( Macon £35 ) We've already booked to stay here on our next trip to the Lakes.

We ate here after a meal at Britannia Inn. Lovely restaurant with friendly and attentive staff. High quality food and good wine selection. It cost more than Britannia - but if you can afford it, eat here!

Upon arrival this place oozes class. In fact we both wished we had found this place before so we could of stayed here. Set on the outskirts of a tiny village with lovely views. We had lunch in the beautiful bar area. The food was excellent along with the service from both girls. We will definitely return but next time we will stay in one of the lovely looking bedrooms.

Really enjoyed the food here, although a few slightly minor irritations - we mentioned we didn't like olives to the waitress about our starter but it was failed to be mentioned that the bread for the day was olive bread. The mains were really good - think we had lamb and chicken - and the dauphinoise potatoes were perfect. Good value meal, however whenever one of the owners served us they appeared a little hostile. Nonetheless good food and not a bad price tag.

Quiet simply, this is a definite on our annual pilgrimage to the Lakes. It's fabulous quality food, fantastic environment with real log fire. Good food, good drink and if you go early they are more than happy to accommodate you in your hiking gear. It gets busy after 7-00 so best ring and book a table.

The new owners had the vision a few years back to renovate a tired hotel with a fabulous position. But it feels like it is already living on past glories. The beer and wine were good. The food was overpriced. And the service lacked any warmth or personal touch. A pity.

We visited with my parents for my Dad's 60th Birthday. We've been a few times before and it's always good. I had the rack of lamb which was delicious and cooked really well. Everything was presented nicely and looked great. We ate in the bar area which was warm and cozy with a nice rustic look. It's a nice family run place, really friendly and welcoming. We all enjoyed the evening and will no doubt be back again next time we're in the area.

We visited this lovely English pub for lunch. The views around the property are magical, the drive from Ambleside was lovely. A large wood fire was burning when we arrived. The lunch menu was very good, with usual and unusual dishes on offer, all nicely cooked and presented. Local beers are on tap, as well as a solid little wine list to choose from. This is a family-run operation, where you are made to feel at home, service is professional enough and friendly. Nice place to relax, unwind.

We visited this restaurant on a very wet and windy evening. We sat in the dinning room which was lovely and warm and decorated elegantly. After dinner we sat in the bar for a drink, this has a more cosy casual feel with a big open fire place. A perfect place to hide on such a stormy night. The food was fantastic, fresh ingredients in well thought out dishes. Delicious scallops, the wine list was also good. We have walked past this inn so many times over the 30 years but for some reason never ventured inside. Why I have no idea!! Now we have discovered it we will definitely be back!

We were recommended to this restaurant and went there with friends. We booked the restaurant but unfortunately on the Friday night we were the only ones booked for the restaurant so were given the choice to eat in the bar area. We had our drinks in the lounge and the fire was very inviting. The staff were friendly but I did not feel the service was great, ie we had to pour our wine ourselves and also when we were ready to leave had to get our coats from the hangers, no one there to thank us and send us off. Food was tasty however a bit steep for a limited choice from the set menu of two courses for just under £30. My partner is a vegetarian and his option was even more limited.

Parked around the front where the view is worthy of a photograph or two. Up the steps through the door and past some posh rooms. Bar/lounge is nice and cosy, so we rested here. Pot of tea, coffee and a cream scone...yummy and at a cost of just £10....I was happy.I would be surprised if all the inn's other services were not of equal or better quality.

Visited this restaurant over the weekend with friends who had eaten there before. I was really surprised and rather disheartened that the menu had no vegetarian options on the menu at all. When I mentioned this to the chef/owner I was told that I should have warned them in advance that I was vegetarian so that I could be accommodated. The implication was that it was my fault for not warning them and it was stated to me that they always ask phone bookings if they have vegetarians in the party. This clearly wasn't true as we had booked by phone and hadn't been asked. All in all quite unsatisfactory attitude. The food my fellow diners were served was good quality but small portions and although the lounge was a great space to sit in the large damp patch on the ceiling didn't enhance the atmosphere. This is a shame as it could be a really great destination but it was let down by the staffs indifferent attitude.

Following a delightful champagne afternoon tea with daughter prior to her wedding, hubby and I returned for lunch the following week. We had the most delicious beef sandwich on a ciabatta barm cake with yummy chunky chips in the cosy bar. Will definitely return next time we are holidaying in the Lakes.

We found this restaurant by chance on a visit to Langdale. We drove past late afternoon and could just see into the kitchen which was a hive of activity. It looked clean, efficient and somewhere that would produce excellent food. We were not disappointed! We booked a table in the restaurant for the following evening. When we arrived we were greeted immediately and shown through to the bar - a fabulously cosy bar - just what we were looking for. Although we had booked a table in the restaurant (which looked great with amazing views), on this occasion we preferred something more relaxed. Luckily, a couple were just finishing so we took their table instead. The food, the service and the ambiance were faultless. The menu is extensive and the use of local products impressive. All the staff were friendly and we even had a chat with the chef at the end of the evening. This is a fantastic family-run business and we would love to return one day for another meal and perhaps to stay for a few nights.

My friend and I like to try out different restaurants around the outer areas around Keswick .Which is how we ended up at the Eltermere Inn.Unfornunately is was a horrid wet day which did not help the rather dark Pub dining room. We decided to have the set lunch .Our starter came promptly My friends asparagus wrapped in parma ham served with hollandaise sauce and deep fried egg wes very tasty , as was my Miso frito ., particulary the prawn which was meaty and firm. My main course of Venison served on red cabbage was cooked perfectly and was truly delicious , and my friends Monkfish was very good though I thought the portion was a bit on the small side . though she did not complain as it left room for a pudding( a jellied Pimm,s no. 1) which she enjoyed, but not really to my taste,. A thoroughly enjoyable meal on a soggy day with quick and efficient service. We would certainly go there again

Lunch for four, warm welcome with a relaxed manner, prelunch drinks were welcome in the sunshine before we were shown to our table. Table in the bay window overlooking eltermere is the was to reserve. Lunch was a delight , recommend the boulabais soup and the roast beef was excellent. White chocolate creme brûlée to finish off, all other lunches were splendid and the chef certainly wasn't shy with portions. The veg was ardente which is always a winner with me. Tea and coffee were taken outside on the front lawn overlooking the beautiful langdale countryside. A little gem which will be visited once again.

Looking for somewhere to eat and use for our regular eat when we are on the island and in Ryde. This will not be the place unfortunately. It says on menu 1/4 pound chicken burger. It hardly covered the standard size burger bun. Not worth h the £5.90 they charge and that is it if you want chips or anything that’s extra. Most of staff friendly, one member not sure if new but no idea how to process our order. The quest is still on for a nice place to eat in Ryde with our dog.

Was disappointed with the meal after all the hype that Hewitts provides really tasty food. The others sat near me also said their food was very dry and didn’t taste very fresh. The front of house team were really nice and efficient and the place was clean it was just the food that didn’t meet expectation. I had the beef brisket and it wasn’t tender.
