My partner and I have often used the Plough as a place for a quick break, the recent changes had removed the comfortable oldie worldly feel, and the executive rooms are now functional but lacking character, more like a private hospital than a place to unwind, but at least the food in Elona’s restaurant was good. Even that had changed on our last visit. The menu choice was poor, our initial choice's where not available (what good restaurant has no steak at 19:45 in the evening), when we eventually found something to have, the result was very disappointing, not a patch on what we had come to expect. The final nail in the coffin was when they could not even manage cheese and biscuits for sweet. The staff all appeared to be new, and although they were all helpful, pleasant and apologetic, did not make up for the disappointment of the evening. We will not be returning.

We got married here in 2013 and have returned every year for our anniversary, we had a perfect wedding here, the food was of a high quality, imaginative and very tasty. In my opinion the chef must have left and they are now making do. We booked our table and explained we had 2 guests with dietary requirements; one vegetarian and a gluten intolerant, however on arrival this had not been noted. On inspection, the set menu didn't even include a vegetarian option, this is 2016 many people are vegetarians or enjoy a meat free option? the Ye olde plough need to update themselves! After a long convo with the server the 'chef' gave us 2 vegetarian options. Starters arrived promptly, Parsnip Soup, Squid and Melon, the Soup was plentiful but very bland, the chunk of melon was under ripe and the fruit served with it had been sliced on a mandolin and was so thin that it had little or no taste too, the squid was nice however it was a very small portion. The mains were served quickly after, most opted for roast beef and the vegetarian had macaroni cheese which looked like it was from a tin, the server asked if we would like any condiments I asked for horseradish and English mustard, she told us she wasn't allowed to leave them on the table on promptly put a large dollop of each of my plate before I could protest! She was quite young and obviously didn't know how much a person would want so my dinner was ruined before I'd begun. Not that there was a lot to ruin, the beef was tasteless and chewy, the roast potatoes were burnt new potatoes, the Yorkshire pud was rock hard and the veg had been nuked in a microwave and were grey and tasteless. The desserts were again forgettable and tasteless (brownies and chocolate sponge pud) I really hope the management read these reviews and make some major changes, Ye olde plough shame on you for spoiling what would have been a long standing family tradition which has ended after just 3 years by compromising on quality and your high standards to make a quick buck!

We had a family celebration so had a set meal which had to be pre ordered.... One option was starter of the day, on arrival we asked what the starter of the day was .... It was pea & mint soup - which looked like green moss & tasted of green moss!!!! We ask for an alternative but was advised there was none, if you choose the starter of the day apparently you "take your chances" according to the waitress ..... Main course was stringy boil in the bag roast beef, cheap and tasteless.... With frozen vegetables, obviously all brought in pre made and reheated..... We was told we could see the joint of beef it had come from - highly unlikely I think - and dessert, once again starter of the day if you don't like what there is there is no other option once again "you take your chances" profiteroles were just four small ones .... Frozen Apple pie (it was nice but not homemade) and a very very tart lemon tart !!!! Followed by cheap happy shopper tea bags and all this for £21 per head !!!!! I can say it was the worse meal ever and expensive for what you get ...... If it hadn't off been for the family gathering and having to prepay before i arrival I would have left with disgust ...... I would certainly not take my family there again cheap food for expensive prices !!!!!

We live quite close to the Plough and thought it would be nice to treat my sister to a family meal for Sunday lunch for her birthday. Although the venue is excellent the food was awful. The starters were either bland or poorly proportioned and the main courses were pre-sliced over cooked meats with anemic roast potatoes. It was obvious that nothing was prepared on-site and simply shipped in. I chose the Lemon tart for desert, which was inedible. At no time did the staff ask if the food was OK and when we mentioned the desert to a waitress, she said she would tell the kitchen but we never heard anything from her. Why they have chefs (actually not sure they do) I don't know. i often see evening events advertised whilst passing by the Plough on my way home from work and based on the discussing meal I have just experienced will never try one. If you like ready meals its ideal.

We ate in the restaurant the night before a wedding. It was reasonably priced and enjoyable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Plenty of choice on the menu. Drinks menu not too expensive either.

The place is a bit shabby I think the overall attitude to decor and maintenance is that will do. Arrived and went to order drink for our table. There was a tab set up under our name. After waiting 5 minutes while 2 members of staff finished their conversation, I was greeted with a stair, shrug of the shoulders, and a loud "What". I asked for drink to be put on our tab which was clearly not something the guy behind the bar was to happy about. " I need the table number" I told him I was sorry but I didn't know the individual table numbers as I had never been here before. I told him the name again and saw it written down next to the till. He then looked at me very much like someone who has just had their pint spilled in a pub on a Friday night and said very loudly. "Get ya table number!!" I was so shocked I just said excuse me. At this point someone else turned up who helped him find the name on the list. Now onto the restaurant. The room was so hot with an air con unit that was switched off. We sat down and my starter arrived. It was a prawn salad which was awful. Clearly it was defrosted budget prawns chucked on 2 pieces of lettuce with thousand island dressing. The prawns were watery and tasted of nothing. After a very long wait we got our mains. I can't describe how awful it was it was a bowl of liver and onions. It looked like a bowl of dog vomit. Literally thrown in, splashes all over the rim of the bowl. The liver was hard and in edible. I tried my partners turkey which was no way from an actual turkey, it was clearly ripped off the box the turkey arrived in and covered in the most insipid gravy I have ever had the miss fortune to eat. Now desert, cheese cake soggy and clearly worse than Iceland basic range. Apple pie soggy with powdered Badly made super runny custard. I was relieved it was over. We now waited for the coffee. No cups so they had to put some out. I was then moaned to about the fact they didn't know that we wanted coffee so were unable to pre set the coffee cups. This was said to me as if it was some how a massive Imposition that we dared want to spend more money. The coffee resembled muddy water and tasted no better. In conclusion a restaurant set in the seventies with truly appalling food and service. The service from the bar man was just unbelievable. At one point I actually thought he was going to reach over the bar and punch me. This place is just awful on every level.
