EL&N London - St James Quarter in Edinburgh, City of

A whole rebrand just to reopen with QR tables and selling sandwiches and shapely croissants (they no longwr serve brunch food). This used to be the place to be, the best French toast by far but not anymore. A waste of a beautiful interior building for a measly breads and meat. No wonder they are never busy. I hope they realise their mistake soon enough

Always love visiting EL&N. Unfortunately the day we visited they seemed a bit short staffed so was quieter than usual. But our server was brilliant and quite attentive. Would visit again for a quick sweet treat and good coffee

Nice little place but it was a little tricky to find because of the mall map not being clear but that’s not the shops fault. There was a bit of a wait for service but maybe we caught them at the wrong time. We originally went in for the pink hot chocolate but unfortunately they weren’t available so I had the white hot chocolate also we had a mixture of cakes. I think it’s the first time iv ever had cake and iv not been able to finish it because it was to sweet 🤣 but they do offer boxes if you want to take the rest with you. The decor was great and gave off a 50’s vibe but somehow even with all of the vibrant colour the atmosphere seemed lacking. Lastly the price seemed a tad on the high side for three cakes and three drinks was £44

Had some croissants here that were alright but tastes like they'd been frozen. The pastries are okay... but for the money, not very fresh. I had a salted caramel croissant which I'd recommend steering clear of, and my girlfriend had the pistachio one which had a nice filling but always seems to have slightly stale pastry? We ate in and the lighting is nice but there was a massive stain on one of the seats that put us off sitting there. Not a bad place to go, and I'd like to try the cakes but I'd say to avoid the pastries.

It’s not as good as it used to be. Paper cups and plates only with wooden cutlery - I’d expect this if I was taking it away but not to sit in. Can’t tell what has been refurbished after it was closed all summer. If you’re expecting the same experience as you may have had when it first opened or if you’ve been to EL&N in London you may be disappointed. What a shame.

Lovely selection of fresh cakes pastries and sandwiches

Me and my sister were in the shop. I was looking at the cakes. She was waiting to be served. The waiter just looked at her. Then 20 mins later he gets a cake and tells her " I am managing the floor by myself, it'll be a while till I serve you." My sister said she wants a peach drink to takeout only. He said well you'll have to wait 20 minutes.

Went to order a drink and there was one guy managing the whole cafe he told me it would be 20minutes to order a take out drink. The shop was not filled and there was no queue, awful service will just avoid

We came all the way from England and thought we will try out a take away cafe, the guy serving said he’s on his own so he can’t serve us until 20mins later , for a takeout coffee, we just felt like he couldn’t be bothered, as there was no other queue

Popped in for some pastries to go. We both got the round nutella croissant, which was delicious. Flaky pastry and stuffed to the brim with a Nutella mousse inside. Staff member wasn't very welcoming or friendly. Reasonably priced for what we got given the location. It was very quiet, only one table taken for a Friday afternoon. Will be back to sit in and try some more food and drinks next time!

Worst customer service. I was shocked how rude , mean and unprofessional the supervisor in this store was. I was left a long time deliberately just to ask a question about a cake She pretented to assist a customer who was busy doing something else Very bad customer service. She was scary as well . I am complaining to their main management. For that peice, it doesn't worth a horrible customer service and old cake !

Purchased a Nutella croissant from the pop up stand at the multrees walk to St James Centre and it was clearly several days old. incredibly stale and terrible quality. Avoid.

Wanted to love this place. On the surface, it is very cute, very pink. Scratch below the surface and it is a massive disappointment. Visited recently with friends. The seating set up is bizarre. There was a self service machine, out of order. Cake and sandwich counter looked impressive until you got closer - flies swarming and sitting on the cake. Uncovered. No ingredient / allergy description next to the items and nothing to say what they were either so we avoided those. Such a shame. They looked nice but yuck. £7.50 for a fly cake too. We found a seat, tables were stacked with previous customers rubbish and tables themselves very dirty. Bit of a hassle trying to order drinks. Only two staff on, one guy was oblivious and the lady was trying to do everything else. My friend directly asked the guy 3x for a drink and he vacantly gazed at him. The lady beckoned us over to take our order and the guy just wasn’t chatting at all. So odd. Overall, I really can’t recommend. I can’t go back there. Such a shame.

The hype is not worth the visit. Gave 2 stars because the interior is very cool. The food was disappointing and the croissant cake was incredibly dry. service was really slow some people in the party waited a very long time after everyone had eaten for their food. The staff were overwhelmed and struggling to cope. Served out of take away cups which is disappointing despite Google reviews showing real cups with beautiful creations. All in all a very disappointing place.

Although usually I give EL&N 4 stars, this is only 3 for the taste of cake and drinks.

Nice place for coffee / tea. Not crowded, hence peaceful atmosphere. Wide range of cakes... good to enjoy with friends.

Went to meet a friend and have some nice food and coffee at elan cafe from Glasgow . Drove an hour to get there and ordered a bagel with tuna and apple juice with kale . It wasn’t fresh at all . I took few bites n left it then went again to try their cube croissant with tea . That cube was heated before it got served and it was rock solid even my friend said the same . He said place looks fab but the food isn’t fresh . Even my 11 year old daughter said mama it’s a waste of money then we went to wing stop n had our food before we left Edinburgh. Elan’s management really needs to look into their food options and should make everything fresh for customers. I have been to most of the Elan cafes in the Uk and other countries but usually food is good enough to be eaten but Edinburgh’s experience was shockingly so bad . Please respect that people are spending money in your business and you should be serving them eatable food not bricks kind of patisserie.

Absolutely divine cakes as coffee's, today I have sampled their cesar artisan sarnie absolutely deliciously fresh as flavoursome! Ps strawberry millefeuille is to die for 👌💫

I was so hyped for the arrival of EL&N to Edinburgh! I ran. I did not WALK! And I recommend you do the same. The Biscoff French toast 🤤 I don’t think there are words that adequately describe how delicious it is. In LOVE with their Spanish pistachio lattes too. Amazing photo spot for influencers should that be your vibe. To die for cakes and pastries. What’s not to love?! ❤️

Pricey. Got takeaway rose milk cake, £8.95. It was delicious but not 9 pounds worth, have had equally tasty cakes for much less. Overall not bad, but not worry paying the premium price.

We just ordered coffees and they were really nice. However, the guy serving us was really inattentive. I assume he was the only one working when we came and he let us sit at a table outside full of someone else's dirty dishes without coming to take them away. Later, another employee came and apologised and cleaned the table for us. We're quite sad as we otherwise enjoyed our experience but this server really wasn't helpful at all. Due to this, we sadly might not come back.

Too overpriced!!!! 1 piece of cake £8. Oat Latte £4 - food not good. very dry cake and latte - better go to starbucks... - Waitress was nice BUT too overfriendly, a bit too pushy even if you only look what kind of cups/mugs and stuff they sell.... Only good thing: I loved the pink and great atmosphere. But no, never again!

The cappuccino there was amazing as well strawberry drink, the carrot cake is just like it should be, indeed the honey cake was just similar to any cake you may have for a very cheap price, wasn't a real honey cake at all, the service from staff there was so poor, I do understand that it gets busy but the feeling they gave us that we are not welcome, they did apologise after us telling them that but still... wouldn't go back there for sure

Had lovely afternoon with delicious drinks n food. A bit more choice on savoury front would be a welcome addition to the menu. Only thing was that it got v hot n there didn't seem to be any air con and no windows to open.

OMG that Spanish Latte was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G 😍 The place looks gorgeous, very instagrammable. Had a nice experience, staff was nice and Friendly. The shop is a bit overpriced but I wasn't disappointed.

Lovely enjoyable experience and lovely attentive staff! Beata and Kinga go above and beyond and have a real passion for delivering and giving you the best possible service during your visit. I went with my daughter who isn't the most girly girl, but on arriving was blown away and loved everything about it! Smaller than I had imagined but Big Vibes throughout! Will be back to treat her bestie as a birthday treat as she now won't stop talking about EN&L to her! Thank you all.

I loved everything about this place! Is it expensive, yes, but you’re paying for part of the experience. If you’re looking for a fun place to eat and take some fun photos and picture worthy food then this place will not disappoint. I thought the food was great and we had the Nutella French toast and eggs Benedict. We had great service with friendly staff and even my kids enjoyed it!

Was in today with my daughter. She was desperate to visit as it’s a pink paradise. So nice to look at but………. £6 for a bog standard hot chocolate? £1-50 extra for cream and marshmallows(which by the way taste like polystyrene). Wee pink and white ones would have been nicer. 10% service charge ? NO ONE asked us if everything was ok? No one thanked us as we left even though we said thanks. So service charge for no service. £6 cheesecake overpriced. So one time visit for us unfortunately.

Loved their mixed berry cheesecake! Great drinks too, the mango margarita was fantastic. However, staff weren’t that attentive.

Nice place and friendly staff but definitely overpriced. The quality is pretty cheap, the cinnamon bun was very dry and a wee hard, the carrot cake tasted only of milk. The cappuccino was normal. Considering you pay more than 10£ for a cake and a coffee, I don't think the quality is worth price. There're tons of better places around Edinburgh.

I loved everything about this place. From the yummy cakes to their lovely staff. Can't recommend this place enough. Beautiful atmosphere and happy friendly staff.

*Service based review* Upon looking to change the time of my booking this seemed to be an impossible task. The business in Edinburgh doesn’t have a phone number, nor do they reply to their emails or social media platforms. After ignoring requests to change the booking I was charged the no show fee of £24. I wouldn’t bother booking this place unless you are 100% sure on the time as they will scam you into paying a booking fee via gross negligence. Poor practice from a business this size. Still haven’t heard from a single employee on their end.

The food took 40 minutes to come and I only ordered a few cakes and a coffee. It also smells terrible.

Hard to recommend a visit. Definitely a case of style over substance. Service painfully long for a simple order of coffee and cake. Smell of cooking food spoils the whole experience.

This was a pink paradise! Incredibly difficult to find,the entrance was hidden outside st James centre in the middle of what appeared to be a building site. Service was friendly. I had the lotus French toast which was really nice but when paired with the incredibly sweet red velvet latte was just too sweet. My daughter had the avocado brunch which was lovely and loads of avocado! It was expensive, but we did try out a few different drinks, all of which were so so sweet. I felt a bit unwell tbh after I left just with the incredibly high sugar content. Would be good to include some plain coffee drinks to offset the sweet treats on offer. For that reason, I probably wouldn't return but it's worth a one off visit definitely!

Avoid if you are going for food but if your reason to visit is for the instagrammable pink decor then I am sure you will not be disappointed. Food on the other hand - well let's just say we left hungry. Our much anticipated brunch was not an option as they had no eggs on the menu, second option of avocado was ordered but only to be told no avocados. Third time scrutinising the menu I opted for the spicy tuna wrap. Poor guy sitting at the next table, was experiencing the same menu dilema and was told the last tuna wrap had been ordered (by me). Although I wish it was me that had been told that, as it was not the tastiest of wraps and had to leave it on the plate half eaten. To top it all off...the latte was cold. Maybe food is not their forte and it is the cakes which brings the customers in. I didn't stay there to have any of the sweet treats so can't comment.

Spanish latte with pistachio was great! If you like all pink everything and nice coffee it's worth a visit.

We went there on the first weekend it opened so may be early to judge the place as you can see from the stuff they were trying to find out how things work. A great variety of options to drink and to eat. I wouldn’t recommend though for anything else than an “influencers” playground. No intention to take anything from the place. They put amazing effort to make a spotless environment that every corner is another set up for a photoshoot. I would recommend if your creditors are food related as myself. I couldn’t see myself going back but if you are on photos most definitely you must go, you will not find something more Instagram-able

Gorgeous, Gorgeous cafe with some amazing interior , great for taking some content or if you just want a cute picture, you can really see that the owner thought of all the little details and made sure it looks perfect 💕 The staff was wonderful, especially a lady called Bea and a guy that was serving us as well not sure what his name was but he explained everything of how the menu works and all the cakes that were there too! Really recommend this cute cafe , had amazing time!

Had really nice experience at EL&N celebrating my sis in law Hen! Service was amazing, we have been served by waiter Adi and also manager Beata who made us feel so welcome. Food was incredible. Had egg bennetict - best ever and followed up with some coctails and biscoff french toast!!! omg the size of that tost was enourmous! we all left super happy and full! Will definetelly come back! place looks gorgeous!

Gorgeous place, but food is quite pricey

Was in your new cafe today with my daughter and have to say we were disappointed with the place. Waited ages to be served, the waitress wasn’t very attentive. Lattes was served in a glass with no handle which seems a bit silly has you can’t hold it as it’s piping hot. Waitress did change it when I asked but didn’t seem happy. One of the cakes was stale. Been to the one in Selfridges in London and it was lovely. Food was well presented and the staff friendly and attentive. Certainly wouldn’t go back to the Edinburgh one. Quite expensive but nice for treat but will wait till I’m in London again.

Il locale è davvero fantastico ! Tutto molto rosa è molto “aestetic”. I cappuccini sono davvero giganti. Per quanto riguarda i dolci posso dire che la cheesecake monoporzione al cioccolato era qualcosa d davvero buono. La consiglio! I cornetti 🥐 nn erano nulla di particolare. C e molta attenzione al cliente. In 3 abbiamo speso per una colazione 30£ più o meno.

If you’re trying to find this unique cafe you won’t wind it inside the St. James Quarters. It’s located at level 3 but outside the shopping centre. It has very unique drink selection and eye catching desserts. Lovely atmosphere with friendly and welcoming table service. Definitely worth to recommend. Thank you, I’ll be back.

Service attentionné même si un peu inexpérimenté ! On nous a conseillé des adresses après notre repas, qui était correct et bien servi. Tout est fait pour Instagram, on y était pour les pâtisseries. :)

Very disappointed- nothing like the London one. They sell parathas? Like why would you downgrade like that. Selection on menu was minimalistic. Service was slow and to find the place was an absolute nightmare. Would be good for little girls so perhaps cater for them? Wouldn’t go back.

The service was terrible, the staff in had no hospitality experience whatsoever. One sever asked if we had enjoyed our food as our plates were clear and then after we responded proceeded to leave the dirty plates on our table, to the point where I had to ask another member of staff to clear our plates. The severs also lacked enthusiasm and any kind of pleasant emotion. Food was mediocre and overpriced, I had the Smashed avocado toast and it was very bland and there was way too much of it. Save your money and do not go here, we were disappointed to say the least.

Very enjoyable experience food was good and service also very good. Efficient and space to enjoy food with just right amount of privacy. Very pink but soon get used to it.

Amazing ambiance and atmosphere, the quality and types of cakes along with fantastic service. This is probably one of the best cafes in Edinburgh when it comes to giving the high quality service. My table was attended by Sierra and she was very attentive to details and my allergies. It is highly recommend to try their sweet desserts and cooler drinks.

If I could leave no star I would. This place is so small, with the most unfriendly staff. We waited 15 mins on them clearing a table, god knows what they cleaned the table with, as it smelt like wet dog. When they took our order, we were advised that several cakes where unavailable, the pastries we ordered were so cold, turns out the cakes and pastries are shop bought frozen, absolutely shocking given the astronomical prices. The very overpriced smores cookie came burnt. The Americano and cappuccino didn't even get drunk as they tasted sour, the cheeky manager offered us a discount, she finally removed the coffee from the bill when we pointed out they had hardly been touched. Floors are fility. I was expecting a really nice experience here, sorely disappointed. Save your money and go to Costa, Cafe Nero or better still McDonalds do a better coffee. 🤑🤢🤮

Well I love the aura of this place it looks so warmth and also the person who attended my table named aadi was a fantastic man who was very generous and humble while he was taking an order as I am very clumsy person to choose any product. Moreover, the food I ate which was El&n shakshuka with ombre passion fruit juice. It's one of my best experience in Edinburgh cafes.

I went to this place after my friend Cameron's recommendation who also works at Elan. There my table was attended by Adi who gave me the excellent service. Also the place have all the food completely halal which also makes it go to for me. I will highly recommend turkish deligh hot chocolate with tiramasu cake.

Another one of these places, all about the gram, none of the staff have any hospitality background nor have been trained. The service is on a go slow and communication is poor. Ordered items came with a 15 minute delay and had to be chased up 3 times. The place is tiny and 1 good waiter would be able to serve this whole place, instead 5 incompetent staff are serving overpriced items.... very disappointing. Avoid and save your money 💰 and spend it elsewhere

Popped into for last-minute gifts. Such a lovely and warm place. I was served by Daniela . Her recommendations were so helpful. I chose Rose Candle for my sister--in love and chocolate spoons for my colleague. I got strawberry cake pop for my son ( he loved that). Everything was beautifully packaged, and a nice, pink ( of course :) bag was included. I treated myself with a Nutella Hot Chocolate, made by Maheen - simply delicious!

Heard great things about this place but first thing the server said was we only have so many cakes out because we rotate what we take out the freezer. £8 for frozen cake?! Opted for smores cookie pie that came out burnt to say the least. Wouldn’t come back. Also no one asked if we enjoyed or how the food was

A lot tinier than I expected, perhaps best if you do not come with large groups. The sandwich I had was quite hard and slightly burnt, the latte I had was decent. Portion size is OK. One thing to note, there's more options for drinks than food. Obviously, this is just another overpriced cafe, and I suppose it's a good place to take pics...
