Bought lovely fresh cakes from shop / staff very helpful and smiling faces and attentive. However based on that experience we decided to go upstairs to tea room for lunch on a wet miserable day (Tuesday 9th July) a small queue - one couple in front of us - lady (supervisor?) behind the desk asked us if we had booked, my husband said no… She continued to prepare orders, help cashier who was clearly inexperienced at using til and completely ignored us and the couple waiting in front of us. The tearoom was not busy, lots of empty tables … she continued to prepare orders, we continued to wait, not a word to either of us 2 couples waiting to re-assure us she would get us seated! Having waited for over 10 minutes on a quiet day - I looked at my husband and said I was leaving and would find another establishment who I’m sure would welcome us and be happy for us to eat and spend our money with them. Bothams can take pride of your shop and staff but less can be said for how your tea room is managed …. Won’t be going there again !! Did not like her manner or attitude - maybe she needs further training in customer care !

As we walked around the town, we stopped here for sandwiches for lunch. Freshly made for us (prawn salad and beef and tomato), with a bun and quarter (large scone to share) to follow. Staff were great: friendly and helpful to all our questions, you will not be disappointed in the quality of the food, or the prices! Next time we will sit in at the cafe!.

Very disappointed with our visit to Bothams on this occasion. Ordered a ‘Yorkshire Quart’ cream tea. It crumbled to bits and it was almost impossible to spread on butter, cream and jam. It ended up more like a Yorkshire Quart mess. When I mentioned this to staff I was simply told that ‘Yorkshire Quart’ is meant to be crumbly. This fact is not highlighted anywhere on the menu and Yorkshire Quart with cream and jam is offered as part of their Yorkshire Afternoon Tea. The staff ignored us during our stay and appeared to be only interested in those guests having afternoon tea. We have visited here a handful of times over the years for lunch or afternoon tea but won’t be visiting again. There are plenty of other establishments in Whitby offering good cream/afternoon teas.

Absolutely first class afternoon tea. We went with friends to celebrate my birthday and the staff had decorated the table and afternoon tea stands, there was even a candle in my piece of cake. The service and food was excellent and would definitely return.

First stop in Whitby Bothams to try the famous lemon Bun. Beautiful so soft and tasty Lemon Icing. That good I've ordered a hamper to be delivered. The shop was busy but we managed to get a table ok. I had a Lemon Bun and pot of tea. Great cup of tea. My partner had a Bacon, Brie & cranberry Sandwich and hot chocolate. Great service and helpful staff always busy and cleaning love the place.

Called for supplies so that we could have a picnic in Pannett Park. We bought sausage rolls, pork pies, quiche and buns (meringue with cream in the centre, chocolate eclair, rum truffle and a beautiful strawberry tart which almost looks too good to eat) . Can't fault any of our purchases, really good quality and would highly recommend.

Had a quick lunch here. The homemade soup with rustic roll was nice as was the cheese and ham toastie. The patisserie looked delicious.Could be more comfortable inside if the seating was more spread out to make it feel less cramped. They could also do with a quicker ordering system as you have to queue a fair while to order and pay.

Very popular as there was quite a queue for the bakery, but we had no problem finding a table once in the tea room; it was surprising spacious. The décor gives a touch of class and the staff are warm and welcoming. There is a good selection of food and drink available. All was absolutely delicious, I didn't leave a single bite. Service is fantastic. Two separate tables finished near us before we left and both were cleared and cleaned within minutes. Also the food we ordered was at our table incredibly quickly and looked as well as tasted amazing. Note to anyone with mobility issues, toilets are upstairs.

Ordered a cheese and coleslaw sandwich at c. 4pm on Thurs 12 September 2019. The woman serving said there was only sliced white bread available - yet there were still several beautiful bagged-up loaves of brown granary bread available, but she refused to open one up. This is where a reputation is blown but poor and surly customer service. All she had to do was offer some decent bread, and how much goodwill that would have gained!

It’s a number of years since I last visited Bothams and the interior has been redesigned to permit additional tables. I was very disappointed to see how drab and tired the actual inside is. A good lick of paint and a refurb is well overdue. The toilets were in desperate need of modernisation too. I’m sad to say the cleanliness left a lot to be desired too!! Our milk jug plus the one left by the previous customers were both brown on the inside!! We both had a scone which was a little disappointing though it was a great cup of tea. Come on Bothams pull your socks up!!

We had ham & wholegrain mustard sandwiches & a cheese and ham toastie followed by strawberry tarts with cream. Thoroughly enjoyed by all. Sandwiches were made with lovely fresh bread & quality ham. The pastry on the strawberry tarts was crisp throughout & the cream piped from a piping bag (no cans of squirty cream here!) Delicious, will be back on our next visit to Whitby

Following a recommendation from a friend, we visited Botham’s on Baxtergate during our first visit to Whitby. On arrival, it reminded me a bit of Betty’s of Harrogate – bit of an institution that the two words always roll off the tongue together ! A bright traditional-style tea room - very busy at lunchtime but we managed to find a table. Counter service was quick and efficient. I opted for a quiche salad and my wife had a scone/jam. Both were delicious. Everything was 5* including food choice, quality, service, hygiene as well as the general ambience. Obviously a very popular place for simple snacks, and well deserved.

Lucky for us Costa down the street had caught fire so we stopped here. From the outside it looks like a small bakers but then there is another door leading to a large ‘tea’ room, but they also do excellent coffee, Italian style. Check out the menu on the tables as they also do a lot more food than is apparent when stood at the counter as no menus up on the wall. We went two days in a row for breakfast, cappuccinos and toastier. Really excellent and good friendly service. Nice clean loos too.

The scones here are nothing special, which is a disappoint for all the hype Bothams tea room receives. They are similar to supermarket ones, uniform, round and mass produced. There are plenty of other establishments in Whitby that do not have the supposed reputation, but definitely have the superior product. I think Bothams are dropping the ball here and assume they are the best, when they no longer are.

Excellent old fashioned tea room upstairs above the bakers shop. Friendly staff wear traditional black with white aprons and sugar lumps on each table with little silver tongs, these little touches make this place stand apart from the usual seaside cafe. My tea came in a silver teapot with matching water jug giving 4 or 5 cups and my husband said his coffee was very good. Only small criticism we have is that his cooked meal came over 5 minutes before my cheese scones with salad arrived so his food was going cold before mine was served. Small matter of timing. Apart from that we enjoyed our first visit and it will not be our last.

Had excellent customer service from the ladies here and the birthday cake I ordered was superb. Also they sell sandwiches made to order which were so fresh and tasty, we will be back when next in Whitby.

We visit here every time go to Whitby. First class Olde English Tea Shoppe with excellent service and a fabulous selection of goodies. A 'sandwich' comes with green salad, potato salad and coleslaw and is a meal in itself.

Having arrived at Whitby we had a hike up to the abbey and around the bay and were on the hunt for somewhere for a spot if lunch. We wanted to avoid the busy area around the bay and discovered this excellent tea rooms. The entrance is up a flight of steps but you are greeted at the entrance by a stairlift so suitable for the older generation. The menu on offer was excellent as well as a great range of teas and coffees. The four of us had an enjoyable meal in a relaxed and friendly environment. The staff were very pleasant and cooperative. A real gem of a find. I would define use it again.

We decided to try this delightful cafe after drooling over the wonderful variety of cakes in the shop window and we were not disappointed. The dining room is upstairs above the shop but has a stair lift for anyone with difficulties. The decor was wonderfully old fashioned and stylish and a very pleasant waitress dressed in a black and white uniform showed us to our table. The menu was extensive with a daily special meal deal at very reasonable prices I chose the home made Quiche , which came with salad and home made chips, my husband had the braised steak ,veg and new potatoes. Both dishes were delicious and the portions were a good size. Unfortunately we were both to full to enjoy one of the cakes in the display case so we bought a selection from the shop downstairs to enjoy at home. We can't wait for our next visit to Whitby and this wonderful cafe again.

Such a lovely afternoon tea, in the style of grand tea houses, efficient staff, reminded me a little of Betty's in Harrogate. Wonderful selection of Teas and Coffees!

Dreary, damp & drizzly on holiday. So find somewhere for lunch. Having only sampled Bothams Stotties to take away in the past. We deciced a warm sit down was advised. So we managed to get a seat and perused the menu. We went for a mix n match where we split our BLT Sandwhich & Pork Pie with onion chutney. Both were accompanied by a salad so with a pot of tea between us it made a very nice lunch. When it came the big bonus was that the bacon was hot & freshly cooked. It was all delicious. Pity we had no room for cakes.

Welcome great, room small but only in it few hours each day stay in 1 week with coach tour. Staff the best.Chef is excellent food presentation Fantastic . Could not fault it.Lots to do in hotel and area around. Bar not over priced as a lot of hotels are. We will go again ASAP. Manager very hands on and very pleasant, One young lady (girl) stood out served coffee after meal and helped our small team with quiz answers. She should have award as staff member of the year. Lovely young lady.

Another super weekend of music at the Crescent Hotel! Thurs eve was Blues with the wonderful Alastair James, Friday was Open Mic night, Saturday was Nils' (Events&Bar Manager) 40th Birthday with a great Oasis tribute band and DJ sets until 3am and then tonight we listened to the talented singer&guitarist, Jack Robertson, who covers songs from Dylan to the Arctic Monkeys. The bar staff are endlessly chirpy, efficient and friendly. Thanks all. I'm looking forward to events such as Rocky Horror, Punk Rock and Swing Nights as well as the regular Blues night.......

What a find! This has been the loveliest meal we have had this year. The food is beautiful, my husband had haddock and loved it. I had rib of beef and it was just delightful some of the best food I have had. The landlord was super lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were lovely and attentive but not over bearing. The menu gives lots of choice and there is a brilliant gin menu. They are dog friendly too so we all had a wonderful time- thank you. We have booked up for Sunday lunch when we are next on holiday over here. I couldn’t recommend this place enough

Gorgeous place to come to and is always on our list as a ' must go to'when we are in Filey. Beautiful setting and everything here is really delicious. The lemon meringue tart and coffee cake are to die for. It's lovely sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine. Sadly it was raining today and as we have a dog we couldn't go in, there was some seating under a canopy for the ice creams but sadly for us just a bit too chilly to sit out. It is cash only so that is something to always remember when visiting.
