Maybe I'm jaded after having lived in New York for 4 years, but this business says New York style bagels and they most certainly are not. Very mediocre and overpriced bagel. Their veg cream cheese is very good, but overall I wouldn't return.

We got here just as the store was opening so it was very quiet. We had bagels which were good and tea/coffee. Friendly service and we would come back for a quick meal anytime.

Es un buen lugar para tomar un bocado rápido a la hora del almuerzo, pero (debido a que los estudiantes están de vuelta en la cercana Universidad de Edimburgo y les encanta el lugar) casi siempre hay una cola en el mostrador. Así que me he escabullido un par de veces. ¡Aunque no me impide intentarlo!

¡Amamos, amamos, elefantes y panecillos! El personal es muy amable y las raciones son generosas y asequibles. ¡Hay tantas opciones increíbles que es difícil elegir qué tener! El trato de picnic es simplemente perfecto. Durante nuestro tiempo en la periferia, llegamos todos los días con nuestras sudaderas con capucha de color naranja y volveremos cada día que estemos en Edimburgo en el futuro.No te arrepentirás de comer aquí en absoluto. . .

I eat here a lot when I'm in Edinburgh. Nice quality fillings for (also GF) bagels - with a separate GF toaster. They always seem careful and aware. Cosy vibes and nice staff- good coffee too though bringing in some GF baking would add the fifth star.

Met hubby for lunch in the Elephants and Bagels, forgot what a lovely lunch you can get here (Gluten Free Available :0) the Humus and Olive on Gluten Free is out of this world you really have to try it. Messy but fun. Must remember to come more often. If you are in the area this is the best place for a quick lunch.

Chosen by my uni son for lunch as they do gluten free bagels for my coeliac husband. Huge choice of fillings and my son requested the largest one as he needed filling up. Soup came as an extra option for those needing more, but the GF bagel was perhaps smaller as we needed a snack later on.

Nuestro hotel estaba prácticamente al otro lado de la calle de elefantes y panecillos. Lo habíamos visto la noche anterior caminando a casa desde el pub. Decidimos llamar para nuestro almuerzo el día siguiente y los dos nos alegramos mucho de haberlo hecho.Un montón de opciones diferentes en panecillos y algo para todos! Bastante ocupado pero no tuvo que esperar mucho tiempo para ser servido o recibir nuestra comida. Ambos disfrutamos del ambiente allí probablemente porque éramos los más viejos (a mediados de los 40) ¡Muchos jóvenes vibrantes y muchos acentos diferentes! Un buen sentimiento.Los panecillos eran frescos y sabrosos y la relación calidad-precio era excelente. Sin duda volveremos de nuevo la próxima vez que estemos en Edimburgo. Si tuviera una queja realmente pequeña, sería la misma que ya mencioné. Quizás menús en las mesas, en lugar de en una pizarra detrás del área de servicio. Esto es solo un pequeño obstáculo y ciertamente no nos desanimaría de ir de nuevo.

Wir stießen zufällig auf das elephants und nahmen zwei Latte und Rührei und Bacon Bagels. Die Auswahl überfordert auf den ersten Blick, aber man findet schnell etwas. Wir würden uns dem Tip anschließen an den Tischen auch Karten zu deponieren. Die Bagels wurden frisch zubereitet und schmeckten sehr gut. Der Kaffe war super. Die Pappteller fanden wir allerdings äußerst fragwürdig und ich ziehe deshalb einen Punkt ab. Ansonsten kommen wir bestimmt noch mal vorbei

Desayuné aquí y a primera vista parece prometedor.La comida es buena y el personal amable y alegre.Tiene una agradable sensación peculiar pero carece de cualquier tipo de ambiente.Los menús en las mesas ayudarían en lugar de que todos tuvieran que leer la pizarra detrás del mostrador.La gran decepción principal (y muy ecológica) es la comida que se sirve en platos de papel. Muy extraño y hace que el lugar se sienta barato.

Necesito gluten gratis, así que felizmente fui a Elephants & Bagels por recomendación. Es un rincón encantador que se siente cómodo y acogedor, y estuvo sorprendentemente tranquilo para el viernes a la 1 pm. Me sirvieron de inmediato. Me dijeron que solo quedaban bagels de canela y pasas sin gluten, lo cual no habría sido mi primera opción pero fue mejor que nada. Me impresionó que me preguntaran si necesitaba una tostadora por separado ya que mostraba conciencia de mis necesidades dietéticas. Una pequeña cola se formó detrás de mí y, para mi consternación, se me olvidó, ya que los siguientes cuatro clientes tenían sus panecillos hechos frente a ellos y se los llevaron de inmediato. Pregunté y la persona que estaba sirviendo se disculpó, pero se rió a su amiga de que siempre se olvidaba de los sin gluten, lo que me hizo sentir como una molestia. Ella me ofreció un café de cortesía como disculpa, que era un toque muy agradable, pero yo tenía prisa, así que tuve que negarme. Had breakfast there- tasty bagels, quick service and relaxing atmosphere. It is located close to many university buildings so it is buzzing with students. I took my book along and spent some extra time there. Next time I will go for the bagel with nutella. It appeared to be a popular order.

I found the bagel that I tried average. I was quite disappointed. The tomato soup was great though. I paid 9 pounds for a bagel, a soup and a coffee so prices are good. Friendly service.

went here for an authentic bagel which are readily available any where in nyc and miami beach. i ordered a everything bagel with cream cheese due to the extremely poor selection of choices. how can you call yourself a bagel shop when you dont have the basic toppings ie scallion cream cheese. the bagel itself was average but pricey for a bagel and cream cheese. if you have not been to a proper bagel shop in nyc then you might think this place is good. but they need to get the basics right

As the name suggests, the cafe specialises in bagels. They have a great selection of types and fillings and did a lunch option of a drink, a bagel and a snack like crisps or a cookie. Very prompt service despite a big queue at lunch time. Good quality and tasty food.

If I could I would give no stars for my experience at Elephant & Bagels. Firstly they made a wrong bagel - I asked for wholemeal hummus & sun dried tomatoes and was given hummus and olive. When I pointed it out at the counter, the girl making them said "well don;t you like olives?"... which is not the point, that's not what I've ordered. Plus, I ordered coffee and she told me she'll bring it to the table. 20 mins later - no coffee. When my friend went up to the counter to ask about it, the girl said no sorry or anything, just "here you go". Absolutely horrible customer service. Not going back for sure.

Great service and if you want a nice bagel it is the place to go! Simple food, no qualms and overall great!

I was looking forward to a quick breakfast for coffee and a gluten free bagel while visiting nearby. The staff was very nice and was patient while my husband decided on his breakfast bagel. The gluten free bagel was very chewy and too doughy. I had to scrap off most of the cream cheese because they pile it on thick. The coffee was good and my husband liked his bagel with butter. I would leave this place to just regular bagels. Gluten free bagels are hard to perfect and these need a little more love.

Buscaba un lugar en Edimburgo que hicieron buenas rosquillas, porque como trasladarse de vuelta desde América yo realmente perdiendo ellos. Este lugar tiene buenas críticas, así que pensé que podría probarlo. El personal era encantador y el café era bueno, pero el bagel parecía había salido de la nevera. Se suponía que era de queso y el Jalapeno pero no el sabor de ambos. Yo estaba allí a primera hora de la mañana, pero creo que si sus reclamos nombre bagels entonces debería estar haciendo ellos frescos cada mañana.

We were early for our walking tour of Old Town in May and we found this place just off the Royal Mile. Friendly staff, good food, good coffee and a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. A great place to grab a bite to eat or take a break from walking to relax.

A bagel you could make yourself, but why bother when you can go here. There is a huge menu of fillings to choose from, as well as the ability to build your own if none of those choices inspire you. The bagels are rather dense, but delicious all the same. Nice cafe environment, with relaxed friendly staff.

Mi marido ha hecho mejor y más fresca bagels en casa. Hemos estado en Nueva York y tenía auténticos bagels propiamente dicho, así que no estoy seguro si estamos comparando a ellos demasiado pero no volvería en una prisa.

Tried the smoked salmon bagel - what can I say, it's my favourite. But there's places around that are cheaper and have better/just as good bagels as well (like Black Medicine). I think the atmosphere is great though!

I'm not a great bagel fan but was invited here to lunch. Cosy busy wee place with friendly staff. What a choice of bagels and very reasonably priced. I had cheese and -jalapeno bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon, lemon juice and capers - wow! Could not fault it at all, superb and changed my view on bagels. They have bagels that would suit everyone's taste whether carnivore or veggie. If you're in Edinburgh give it a try

Me and my partner both love Elephants and Bagels. What’s not to like? The staff are always more that friendly and all posses high efficiency in customer service and food preparation. Our favourite “salmon and cream cheese on a jalapeño and cheese bagel with lemon and capers” is making me hungry just writing its name. Venue is very welcoming and homely at this point. The student discount is also great!

A nice and quiet atmosphere, and very close to the university so a good place for a study break, with a choice of sweet and savoury bagels.

Yo siempre visitar este encantador café cuando en Edimburgo Fringe. Elección de este año fue un bagel de semillas de amapola con hummus y tomate deshidratado, y era tan buena como de costumbre. Ubicación conveniente para tomar un aperitivo sabroso y contundente en cualquier momento del día.

Nos gustó mucho el aspecto de este lugar, pero estamos tristemente decepcionados. La chica que sirve dieron mal, y el nuestro prefieren huevos revueltos fue recocido y gomosos. Todo se sirve en eco-platos de papel, pero habría preferido que comer en platos como pagas extra para comer. Chica me parecía molesto con sirve que ella tenía mal mi pedido. No lo recomendaría.

Hemos estado visitando el Festival durante los últimos seis años, me encontré con los elefantes y roscas en nuestro primer viaje y asegurarse de que comer allí por lo menos una vez cada estancia. Es bueno que decir por lo tanto que el estándar sigue siendo consistentemente alta, el buen servicio y las opciones tanto de rosca y abundante amplia. Siempre está ocupado, pero en general, usted puede encontrar un lugar para sentarse (o elegir para llevar) y vale la pena el esfuerzo.

Visited recently with family for a lite bite of lunch. Have never been before but was presently surprised at the non-fussy and relaxed surroundings. Very family friendly with lots to keep the kids entertained. Varied menu to choose from including the choice of bagels and fillings. Our lunch didn't break the bank and was tasty and well prepared. This is a cafe type experience very much geared up to families and locals who enjoy relaxed and atmospheric surroundings. It is what it is so don't understand the critical reviews...if you are looking for a more refined such experience..just go elsewhere. Embrace this place and you will enjoy.

Went here for lunch a few weeks ago, had heard it's an Edinburgh institution and had never tried it before as it always looked too busy. Went in on a Saturday lunchtime, ordered on regular wholewheat bagel with cream cheese, maple syrup and walnuts, was a bit too sugary, we also had a very chewy gluten free bagel with hummus and a tad much sundried tomato paste. The food was fine enough, not amazing though. Our real problem was the hygiene of the cafe, out server was very slow, 3 other groups of people were served by another server whilst we waited for our food, the server did not use separate utensils for the different fillings and left the bagels sitting on a dirty wooden work surface for a bit. From what we could see the other sever used utensils and boards correctly. Probably wouldn't bother going back...

Everyone loves a good bagel don't they? Well this place has you covered, the bagels are tasty and the fillings are YUM. My personal fave is the poppyseed with the lemon chicken and melted mozzarella on top. The place has a great feel, the food is yummy and you'll always get a great bagel. The decoration of people's hand drawn elephants around the place is great as well. The only small downside really is that even though over the years I lived in the city I used it loads and didn't notice, when we visited last weekend when we went in at around 4.30pm all the bagels were packed away and the staff weren't too keen to serve us as they closed at 5pm. There were people still at the tables and the place had a great chilled vibe but did feel a bit like we were in the way when we ordered. We were then told when sensing the tone and upon asking the closing time after the order was being made that takeaway was the only option available. We actually proceeded to eat at a table anyway as it was only 4.45 and didn't require a plate but it would only be a suggestion that the place (staff) could ensure that people are being made welcome right up until closing, not half an hour before. This is small however as I do love this place and the food.

I come here often with friends. The coffee is delicious, and the hardest part is choosing a bagel option. There are so many flavor combinations, but my favorite is the bacon, brie and chutney (on any bagel!) Definitely a top spot in Edinburgh, and a budget one at that. Not to mention the fun decor!

Came here with a friend from back home and I was excited to have a bagel. They offer a variety of bagels and fillings so you actually have a big range to choose from. Unfortunately a lot of the things we wanted weren't in stock so we got a bit disappointed. Still we had a nice brunch. Would recommend if you are in a hurry and want a quick bite or even if you wanna sit in and enjoy your bagel.

Lots of filled bagel options and soup, with many veggie options too. Good place for a working lunch with single seats and plug sockets but also tables for groups.

I've decided to stop by out of curiosity. A guy gave me a flyer advertising this place. I must say it was a very good choice. The atmosphere is relaxing, the food is very good and they serve a decent coffee as well. It is located near the University, so many students go there and you can hear interesting talks while enjoying one of their tasty bagels or sipping your coffee or tea from a personalised mug.

Amazing selection of fillings and staff gice generous portions and are happy to mix up the fillings to suit what you want. Lovely cosy place and great coffee. Fab for a catch up with friends. Great find. xx

So, cannot really complain since they did have gluten free bagels on offer. Only one kind, plain. But it's better than most places. I asked for it toasted, and it was still somewhat cold, as if it had been previously frozen and not yet thawed. They charge more to eat in than take away, which I find a bit odd.

Took my girlfriend here when she came to visit - she has to have gluten free bread which they provided as well as a huge range of fillings on offer. The service was great, it's very warm and welcoming inside and the food was delicious. Not bad prices either!

This small café I a great find! I've been to Edinburgh hundred of times and never noticed it before. From the city its about a 10 minute walk down north bridge on the right hand side. Quirky wee place with elephant drawings all over the walls, really cool. I had a brie and walnut bagel with honey and it was delish! There are all kinds of toppings you can have, some I'd certainly never have thought of and a variety of bagels too. Good atmosphere and reasonably priced too. I'll be back :)

The place is really nice, has an elephant theme and you can find drawings and miniatures of elephants everywhere. The staff is very friendly and can help you decide if you don't know what you want to have! The bagels are amazing, I really like the pesto, cream cheese and tomato bagel. I recommend it.

Hats off to Elephants and Bagels. On a wet miserable Friday in the midst of the Festival, they provided tasty hot soup and yummy bagels to a never ending stream of wet, hungry people. The staff were helpful and friendly. My first visit to this establishment, but it won't be my last.

A revisit to this Cafe, which is in the heart of the Festival Fringe area. Excellent range of Bagels and a huge choice of fillings. There is a soup and bagel offer. Popular and therefore not always easy to get a seat, but on a sunny day, takeaway is a good option. Friendly and efficient staff add to the experience and recommended.

Lovely little cafe specialising in all things bagel. Enjoyed choosing the ingredients to my bagel and was really excited to tuck in. It was as expected - a hummus and pepper bagel. The fillings were overflowing, but the actual bagel was on the small size. Probably could have made it better myself, but without a toaster in my handbag was glad to have found this cafe.

If your goal is to have decent tasting bagels with lots of different fillings to choose from, then you can't go wrong with this place. With a relaxed atmosphere and in a central but yet calm location, this is the perfect spot to recharge your batteries, at affordable prices.Unfortunately I cannot review this place as "excellent", as the girl who served us didn't bother to say thank you when we paid, which I believe is something that any business open to the public should try to take into consideration, at least as a courtesy for the people who are bringing the money in.

Huge choice of bagels and fillings, loads of really interesting flavours, and they are very generous with the fillings. Coffee is good, and good value. Place itself is very quirky and the staff are friendly. Cost: about £10 for two very full bagels and two coffees. We visited twice in the week we were in Scotland - the first time we were taken by a friend.

Don't get me wrong, I am not looking for a michelin starred bagel, just one that I enjoy eating --simple as that. Although Elephants and bagels offers a decent variety of different bagels and fillings, in my opinion it's more elephants rather bagels. I've tried both the chicken pesto and the chorizo one but none of them tasted better than one of the Tesco's value sandwiches. That's a shame cause the place is really nice and the staff friendly.

Great place to get pretty much any kind of bagel to your taste, as well as good coffee. The seating space is limited but if you can find a seat the atmosphere's very pleasant too, I'd definitively reccomend this place!

I am always hesitant when going to bagel places, because normally I can't get anything, so when my friends said they had gluten free, I had to try it! I was delighted! the bagel was toasted and had some seriously yummy filling options. I got a gluten free breakfast bagel, but they had some other yummy toppings as well. Loved this place!

Been a few times now and doesn't disappoint. Simple and inexpensive, nice tasting bagels with a generous serving of toppings. Relaxed atmosphere and lots and lots of elephants.

Went here with my mum and sister for lunch. Mum and I are both coeliac, they are so clued in and their gluten free bagels where lovely! That nice we all went back for a second one! Highly recommended :)

Found this place via Google as a good place to get gluten free bagels. What a disappointment. The employee working that morning could not have been a nicer individual, so it is disappointing to have to give this place such a poor review. The bagels themselves are nothing special- while they are technically bagels, they certainly seem to be pre-manufactured and either frozen/defrosted or of subpar quality. They were chewy, fell apart easily and taste was "odd" for gluten free bagels. However, with that in mind, the employee could not have been more helpful and kind. She ensured that the bagels were toasted in a separate toaster (to prevent cross-contamination) and provided her recommendations on fillings/toppings. She was definitely the bright light of this cafe.

Tasty bagels & very reasonably priced. Nice coffee too. Had a very hot & fresh egg, bacon & tomato to eat in & a cinnamon raisin to take away. Good variety especially considering it's a small place. Friendly quick service - will definitely revisit.

Quaint cafe style that offers every kind of bagel and filling you could imagine. Very tasty and included a gluten free option. Only small thing I didn't like was the tea came in a mug with the teabag in and the milk already added. Would have preferred a separate jug for milk. Staff were friendly and polite.

Vast selection of bagels and fillings, including gluten free options. Ideal if you fancy something different. Can get busy, but we'll worth the wait.

Visited here in summer and got a brie, walnut and honey bagel with poopy seed. It was and is still the best bagel I have ever had. So worth a visit

This is definitely my favourite place for lunch when at uni. There is a range of choice for fillings as well as the type of bagels themselves. There is also a range of drinks and I would fully recommend the hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream.

This place is right by the university, so it's perfect for a study session. The bagels are the best in Edinburgh (to my knowledge), and the last time I was there I got free refills of basic coffee after ordering my first cup. The decor is unique and eye-catching (lots of elephant art, plenty of it by children), and the servers I've encountered have always been friendly.

Love coming here! Brunch is the best. Always go for the same kind of bagel though haha! Can't wait to come again with my partner

This place had decent coffee, and decent coffee is a little hard to find in Edinburgh. It also had a great selection of bagels and fillings. Good place to pop into if you are looking for a light meal.

Had a lovely breakfast on tuesday morning, was nice to sit somewhere quiet watching the world go by. Lovely food and coffee and lots of nice artwork too!

A fun place, great bagel selection and very studenty. What you'd expect really in this part of town. I'd recommend it though for lunch or breakfast.
