Went to a birthday party, very friendly staff and atmosphere, every were was clean and tidy. Would definitely go there again

Stumbled across the Elephant & Castle yesterday when visiting a friend in the village - What a absolute hidden gem it is! We could not find fault with this establishment: Friendliness - Excellent Service - Excellent Cleanliness - Excellent Facilities - Excellent Food quality - Excellent Also, both management and local patrons made us, as 'strangers', feel extremely welcome. Unfortunately, we had to leave before the regular Motown slot began. But we will definitely be returning to sample more of the home-made cooking and some of the scheduled events they have running. Well worth the visit indeed!

Haven't been here for a number of years.. went downhill. ..SOO glad we popped in again. under new management....Gwen and staff are so welcoming and friendly.....nothing is too much trouble. .

A marvellous little country pub the manageress was lovely taking time to chat. Had a lovely meal, a bacon and brie pannini,salad and chips. It was that nice that as a non salad eater for over 10 years, I did eat it and wow it best salad I've ever had. The 4 stars for atmosphere is only because it was lunch time and 3 elderly locals were huddled up a corner. A wonderful place to rest and eat👍

Excellent local pub with superb beer and food

We had Sunday Lunch yesterday and were more than pleased. Gwen and Amy who were new to us; as its a year or two since we've been were very welcoming and the food was superb. The pub is bright and colourful with a friendly vibe and clean in all areas. If you prefer sitting outside there's lots of seating on two sides of the pub with all the areas child friendly. Highly recommended !

Got to say what an amazing local pub to go for a drink and food! From the moment you walk in and welcomed by the landlord to the amazing food that’s served it’s a complete delight! I totally recommend Lisa’s cottage pie it’s the best I’ve ever eaten and the prices are totally affordable unlike a lot of these chain pubs that give you a scrawny portion and charge you the earth for it! Dog friendly to as an added bonus! Thank you for a lovely night we will be back ASAP!

Thank you to Paul and Lisa who were the ultimate 'Wedding Planners' and hosts! From the initial booking, through the menu planning, wine selection and music recommendations and to the delivery on the day, I honestly can not fault them. Everyone mentioned that the food was flavoursome and freshly prepared, with a fast and personal service. Much appreciation to the team and I would highly recommend the E & C for any function that you may need.

Stopped for an impromptu lunch time pint passing through Thurlaston.You immediately know this is a well run place. Plenty of helpful staff. Strong Covid sign in, they’ve even got a priority system walking round the pub to get to the toilets.Very well thought out.Didn’t eat because we’d left lunch on the go at home, but the food coming out looked lovely.I had a pint of everards tiger. It was delightful. “Hung” in the glass like you wouldn’t believe, always the sign of well kept beer.It looked so nice I photographed it!We can’t wait to go back and eat! It’s not exactly on ur doorstep but worth the trip I suspect.

We booked for lunch on the re opening of the pub following the government closures for Covid.I can happily report that the pub is covid compliant, and perfectly safe to visit , well done you two. Staff have visors and masks, disposable menus and gloves, and the redecorated pub also has great social distancing, although i am still able to bore other visitors in the bar. Beer and food great as ever , different menus as slightly less space and therefore customers, but still a friendly good value for money , hygenic and great place to enjoy a meal.Beer is great too.Well done.

I had a meal on a Wednesday night with several friends and everything was good. We went back the following Sunday for Sunday lunch and I was very disappointed. I took a slice of my yorkshire pudding and it was freezing in my mouth. I put my finger in the pudding and it was still frozen inside [obviously not freshly cooked]. My friend put her finger in and agreed, I called the waitress over and she also put her finger in and agreed. She apologised and took it away. She came back to say that they were getting a fresh pudding out. However, it arrived back with my original pudding, very soggy, obviously having been warmed in a microwave. I was very upset by the fact that they hadn't replaced the original pudding but I didn't want to cause any awkwardness for my 3 friends. I am very disappointed and don't know whether I would trust the restaurant again.

We had a beautiful three course meal with drinks. I am very impressed with the alcohol free choice and very, very dog friendly. The locals where very friendly and fun too.

Visited with my husband for the first time we wanted a traditional pub for a nice meal ! We were pleasantly surprised by the friendly welcome and lovely atmosphere. We ordered Prawn cocktails for starters which were delicious and full of prawns then Scampi and chips for our main which was just as good.They have just started offering Cheese and biscuits and it was delicious the chutney was superb !! highly recommended cant wait for our next visit!

We had a fantastic meal with friends. The food was excellent and brilliant value. There is an amazing array of Gins and the staff were efficient and friendly. We even ended up playing a few games of darts in the bar, being cheered on by the locals.

We used to come to this pub a lot, the beer is always kept well and the food not bad but the only reason we stopped going is because of the rude landlord. He never smiles and when u ask for a drink he acts like he can't be botherd it makes you feel he doesn't want you there. So the last time we went we had just the one drink because my partner felt so uncomfortable been in there. So we go to another pub now where the landlord always says hello and happy to see you. We feel so much comfortable there.

Nice little country pub and restaurant, right from walking in, immediate attention from bar staff, good choice of wine and beers etc. Small but perfectly adequate menu, had the curry which was fine, the wife had the pie which was quite large and delicious served with very good chips and our guest had the tiger battered fish and chips which she enjoyed, We are well traveled worldwide and the food was up there for quality and quantity, the owner spoke to us after our meal and was caring and appreciated our comments that we would return again soon.

It's okay, unpretentious country pub that serves food.Nothing grand but just what one might expect - at least it isn't the egotistical 'bistro' (he calls it, or was it Brasserie) which to mine and locals minds is to be avoided.

This was our first visit for many years and we were impressed with the renovations to the pub. We enjoyed our food, which was well presented and good value for money. The staff were both friendly and attentive. We shall return!

The pub at the front is my kind of place. Cozy, friendly and well established. The staff were great, more than to look after our party. The food is reasonably priced, our roast (it is the only item on the menu on a Sunday) was ok. Overall the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. On a nice day you can get down to the beer garden and park which is a nice way to extend your stay.

Called in here when passing on a lunchtime Saturday there were a few people in some were eating. We ordered from the 2 for a tenner menu I had cottage pie and my friend had chicken goujons both were adequate . We would call again if in the area.

Friends took us to this lovely pub while we was over theirs place. Meal was great and quick We had booked a table. I so enjoyed the meal. And the staff was great as well that does help. We will be back And will enjoy this lovely friendly pub.

My partner and I stopped here by chance after visiting the garden centre in the village. We had a lovely warm welcome from the landlady Lisa. There was plenty of choice on the menu and we both had sirloin steak. The food was fresh, tasty and served hot. The pub was exceptional clean including the toilets. We would highly recommend the pub. Its a shame we dont live in the village as I think we would be in here all the time. It was enjoyable to go to a friendly cosy traditional pub where you could relax and enjoy company. Booked a family meal at this place for 7 of us. Food was spot on and service was pleasant in my party we had different dietary needs all to which were catered for ! Would definitely go back best pint of tiger around !!!

Es parte de la cadena de everards y tiene un aparcamiento en la parte trasera se accede por una entrada estrecha. Se llena bastante y sentimos que nuestra llegada fue reconocido como visitantes en lugar de la bienvenida, pero pudimos encontrar una mesa vacía. Disponibilidad de alimentos estaba limitada a una opción de dos asados del domingo, con porciones más pequeñas amablemente si se requiere. Los pedidos fueron rápidamente adoptadas en la mesa y las bebidas y la comida llegó muy rápido. La comida era buena, de manera cordial y representó una muy buena relación calidad-precio. Teniendo una visión equilibrada de todos los factores que nos parece que esta visita nos proporcionó una experiencia media, aunque consideraríamos una calificación de "bueno" - 3. 5, si están disponibles en tripadvisor.

Saw a sign on a tree guiding you off the main road to the lovely village of Thurlaston. Within this village lies a little gem of a pub called the elephant and castle.Recently taken over, the new landlords are making every effort to improve this lovely pub. The friendliest of welcomes awaits you along with really nice food set in traditional surroundings.We were made to feel like locals from the second we entered.Very safe play area and car park at the rear of the pub.Wide selection of ales and really nice and varied menu.Our food was well presented and piping hot. More importantly, it tasted great too. All of the above at really fair prices.... cracking, what more could you ask for?We will most definitely be back again.Well done all concerned and all the very best for the future in your new venture.

This lovely little village pub has recently been taken over by new tenants .We were welcomed to a lovely warm pub with wood burner great welcome from the landlord who took time to come and talk to us makes such a change from a lot of pubs / restaurant these days.On this occasion we didn't eat just had drinks but we will definitely be going for a Sunday lunch or bar meal at some point. We visited the Elephant and Castle for lunch, and were warmly welcomed by the new landlord, Paul. We all had the battered fish and chips which was lovely, a very enjoyable meal.

Had a lovely lunch with my mum. Lots of choices and very reasonably priced. The lunchtime baguettes were delicious and the puddings were huge and delicious.Staff were welcoming and looked after their guests.

It's ok. The new landlord needs to relax! Food was ok and served on time. The place is clean the seats could do with being re- upholstered. Maybe in time when they are established.

My parents, partner and I sat down at one of their tables which was NOT reserved, after being there for over half an hour the pub landlord came over and told us to move because that is where a bunch of locals sit. I was absolutely gob smacked at how we were treated, we got straight up and left never to return! Stay away.

Came here for my sisters 38th birthday, had the San Miguel and Fish and chips! Absolutely fantastic, music was excellent food was brilliant and the beer was top notch! Also it's dog friendly so every member of the family could come!

Having never been to this pub before and it being recommended by a friend, I can honestly say it was an excellent meal and fantastic service, considering that the owners had only been there for 2 weeks it felt as if they had been running it for years, we didnt have to wait long for the food to arrive and there was plenty on the plate, also very hot when served and the puddings were to die for, we will definitely be going back it's a lovely friendly pub.

Visited this beautiful place last night, just wanted to say the food was lovely and the new owners were so accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble and the place has a lovely atmosphere. Child friendly! Visiting again soon for sure, especially with the up and coming entertainment planned in.

I took my girlfriend out for Sunday lunch here seeing as it was recommended by a friend, staff were very polite at the door and helped us out quickly. The meal was lovely, both my girlfriend and I enjoyed it thoroughly! Will defiantly recommend!

Went for my birthday meal, 6 adults ,2 children, 1baby, made to feel welcome by the friendly staff. The meal was fine, can certainly recommend the starters. When we went through to the dining room a large birthday banner had been place on the wall by our table. A lovely touch especially as they only found out it was my birthday when we got there. The waitress even sang Happy Birthday when she brought in the cake that my family had made..

Went for Sunday Lunch recently, firstly we were heckled by the local drunk who was propping up the bar as we walked through, secondly the waitress got 4 out of the 7 drinks order wrong, thirdly the meal we received was awful! It was microwaved from frozen rubbish, I wouldn't serve it to my dog!

Avoid this restaurant like the plague. The only way to describe the quality of food is Animal Fodder. I have a Pedigree Dog and I wouldn't give him what we were expected to eat.It was a real shame as it was for a Birthday occasion and was recommended by someone.Don't waste your Money at this place.

We were once residents of the Village of Thurlaston for over 10 years, The Elephant and Castle was a fantastic hidden gem. Unfortunately the standards of this once great pub is not what I can only describe as an embarrassment for the village. Our family of 6 choose to have our Sunday lunch here today and it was the worst Sunday dinner we have ever experienced, So much so I wouldn't of even fed the food to my dogs.Alarm bells should have been ringing when 2 of our party were served, waitress realised she had served the wrong table, she then continued to serve the other table and bring desserts for others. This meant 2 of the 6 had been served whilst the rest had to wait 10mins before the rest of the table was served. The "Fresh" Roast Beef looked like it had been in the oven for 4 weeks prior to being served, there was several bits of foil within the cremated remnants of the Beef.Each plate got half of a potato which had then been cut in half again...that's it no mash, new potatoes simply 2 quarter pieces for a Sunday dinner. "seasonal" veg consisted of Carrots which seemed to be prepped and cooked the day before, Cabbage which had not even been cut up and Broccoli which had been cooked and then recovered, which anyone with even a basic knowledge of catering knows this would send produce like mush. So nothing seasonal in the slightest.The yorkshire pudding again had been precooked and reheated, same with stuffing which was prepared cooked and then recooked. This meant the stuffing had been dehydrated leaving nothing in the center. The landlord can over and could see that it was not of good quality and agreed that the quality was poor and unacceptable so charged is £16 for the total food bill which worked out at £2.66 per meal, in my opinion that was £1.66 over the value of each meal.Close the kitchen and learn how cook a Sunday Roast, until then you will be an embarrassment to yourselves and the village of Thurlaston. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone, it really was the by far the worst dining we have ever experienced.

Lovely village pub but located at the junction of 2 roads so care has to be taken when entering car park. Once inside it is very welcoming and friendly. The menu is limited but there was a choice of 2 meals for £10 which is excellent value. My wife had the turkey dinner which consisted of 6 slices of turkey, baked potatoes, new potatoes, cabbage, peas, carrots & broccoli accompanied by cranberry sauce. I had gammon steak with pineapple, peas & chips. The meals were hot and served on hot plates as well as being delicious. The hosts were very attentive but did not intrude in any way. I would definitely go again. The last thing I want to mention is that the food can be eaten either in the bar area or in the restaurant (we ate in the restaurant)

Having eaten here frequently we can recommend the fish and chips. The beer is excellent, so my husband tells me.

We were made welcome by the bar staff and landlord, our order was taken quickly and we were shown to a table in a pleasant dining room. It didn't take long for our food to arrive ... the steaks were overcooked and quite tough ... the side order of mushrooms had been cooked in a deep fat fryer and was greasy and tainted by the taste of the fat. The chips were ok. Not somewhere I'm likely to go back to.
