Never mind that the service charge itself is already a scam. But they keep rising it. It was 12.5% two years ago. 13.5% a year ago. Now 14.5% service charge and you get the card machine pushed against you with the price there immediately with your bill. This has become ridiculous. They’re taking people for fools

Le escribo para expresarle mi profunda decepción por mi reciente visita a su restaurante, particularmente con su nuevo menú mexicano. Después de haber disfrutado de las comidas en Electric, llegué con grandes expectativas, pero me fui sintiéndome decepcionado, tanto en términos de la calidad de la comida como de mi experiencia general. En primer lugar, debo decir que el nuevo menú mexicano es, en una palabra, basura. Los platos carecían de autenticidad, sabor y finura, lo que fue una sorpresa dada la calidad que había llegado a esperar de Electric en el pasado. Lo que me sirvieron se sentía más como una imitación pobre de la cocina mexicana que algo cuidadosamente elaborado. Las porciones también eran abrumadoras, y la presentación general de los platos daba la impresión de ser apresurados o sin refinar. A real west London portabello establishment. #1👌🏾 I had to revisit my original review to update it with my thoughts on electric diners new concept. Electric Diner what have you done! Gone is the place where I would take my international friends and associates for a great dining experience and following a recent visit pre Xmas to see what had been done during the last closure and rebranding. I can now see that if this had occurred in Mexico the entire management would have been disposed of and hung from the A40 flyover as a warning. Please bring the diner back to what we all loved as in this current guise my previous visit was my last! RiP Electric Diner🙏🏾

Absolute car crash of a new concept. New Mexican menu is poor. Service is very good , staff very nice but OMG what a disaster! Cannot possibly recommend this place anymore… what a car crash of an idea.

I prefered the atmosphere and menu of the old electric. I dont think mexican food goes with the diner experience and the electric was such an icon in the neighbourhood. People go there for the burgers and the sunday brunch. Mexican food just doesnt do it for me there. The food was good, but just what I wanted at the Electric. Shame they changed it.

They changed the restaurant’s name to Maya. Food is not delicious, just very low quality. Service is really bad, waiters treat you badly, host wouldn’t close the door when we are seated next to it feeling cold (they have an issue with the fire alarm?).

They should have not changed the diner menu. It was a classic! And unfortunately the food was not good at all, except the guacamole… Sorry to say!

Came yesterday to drink two coffees, we were charged twice. The waiter made us believe that the payment had not gone through before coming back to ask us to pay again. Result: two coffees for the price of four. A real SCAM, to FLEE

Very cool and authentic Mexican diner vibes. Reminded me of a NYC style restaurant…. All the food was incredible and tasty and so fresh! The churros were to die for. And the cod tacos simply amazing! The ceviche was well tasty! Will defo be back!

Maya Mexican pop up, one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. Awful, bland, terrible .

OVERHYPED. Definitely seen better days. The diner and the cinema needs to be refurbished. It’s very beat up. And given the price i would like to sit at a table that wasn’t rocking and on a chair with proper upholstery. We moved seats 4 times. I found this place very expensive for what it was. Our bill was about £80 and all we had were the food pictured and 2 bottles of the smallest Coca Cola I’ve ever seen. Having a valid ticket for a movie on the same day gives you half off and thank god for that. Food was not great. Drinks over priced. Cinema seats uncomfortable. Don’t waste your money. Go to an Everyman or another cinema. This one isn’t worth it.

I’ve been going here regularly for at least ten years but it’s really gone down in quality. Mostly new staff that offer poor service, fewer food options, overall disappointing… the recent collab to make it Mexican themed is poor. They painted the walls gold for some reason, put up tacky art work and play awful South American music. Shame to see what Soho House did with what as a Nottinghill institution …

La comida fue absolutamente decepcionante... pedimos el taco donde nos sirvieron 5 tacos rancios, ensalada sin condimentar, sin mencionar que la porción era demasiado pequeña por £ 17! Me sentí como un granjero británico, cuando el canciller reveló el último presupuesto, hablando de ser jodido. Mi experiencia fue tan sosa como la cena de Rishi Sunak. Piso.

I used to come here for coffee when it did breakfast, But now I'll be back for more Mexican, just stopped by chance and got a great coffee and a small plate, Tuna Tostada which was an assault on the tasebuds, thank you Jack for the recommendation...

I'm not averse to change, so long as it's positive. Maya was dead out, vibeless, empty, overpriced and just bad all round (apart from the service, which was bright and jolly) - a pale appropriation of Mexican cooking if ever there was one (I lived there once), where the person in charge of music had clearly just put "hispanic" in the search bar judging by the Brazilian Forró music that inexplicably came on halfway through our meal. We were a table of 4, 2 aduts, 2 kids, and we went through a large chunk of the menu. To be fair, the guacamole and the Masa fried chicken from the smalls plate were good, but the tacos were not in the slightest bit authentic, not a hint of maiz (try going to Tacos al Pastor for genuine Mexican flavour), the chicken was a sloppy mess that made no mention of its meal ruiningly strong chilli. On the main, the pork shoulder was like chewing gristle and still haunts me, the Diablo chicken was chewy too, underseasoned and marginally underdone, and the sirloin asado was swimming in a pool of liquid and also chewy. Chewy = wrong. The choice of sides is limited and the menu just doesn't really add up. We skipped pudding and got a donut round the corner to be safe, and judging by the bill, wise. It was whopping - over £260. Admittedly we ate a lot, but so did we the next night at Cecconi's, for 2 this time but with cocktails and a bottle of Ruinart Blanc de Blanc on top, but it wasn't much more. The thing is we went away happy. My girlfriend isn't one to complain and I didn't want to in front of her kids, but if it was a different scene I would've, although I probably would've walked out way before to find a diner that did burgers, mac and cheese, fries, milkshakes, played good music and had a vibe, like the Electric Diner used to. Cut your losses or do it better.

So they just changed the restaurant a month ago, the menu doesn’t mention that the food is super spicy!! I ordered a pollo taco and I am leaving the restaurant starving, looking for somewhere else to eat cause after one bite I just couldnt eat anymore, my tongue is on fire! And there is absolutely nothing mentioning it in the menu or neither the staff is letting people know!

Delicious meal with great drinks and brilliant service, the staff were excellent. A superb addition to the Soho House food offering.

Lady at the desk/door did not seem to know what or where to seat us after we booked she also served our plates and threw them on table not engaging with us at all, her energy was not welcoming at all. Aside from that it waa ok but not great.

I went and was expecting the electric diner I've previously visited and enjoyed. It turns out I arrived on the opening day of a new concept on display in the form of Mexican contemporary dishes, aptly named Maya. My wife and I were looking to share something and get back into the local markets with room for cakes, bakes and all the street food. We shared a Asado pork kebab with pico de galo & charred pineapple. The dish is clearly well thought out, and the flavours we'll balanced. The meat was nice and tender and the Asador finish gave it the air of authenticity it needed to compete with real Mexican cuisine. On one lower note, the food was at best room temperature, and at £19 for the dish alone, it felt a shame. However, I was sat on the open kitchen dining stools, and the chef asked how the dish was, to which I responded: " I'm aware it's opening day so I feel it's necessary to inform you that whilst the food is tasty and well constructed, it was barely warm" The waitress took 40% off the bill without us asking, and the chef thanked me for the heads up. I'd visit again if in town. Opening day teething issues are expected. Overall, great venue, great location, and a promising menu with chefs that seemingly care. 7.5/10.

All servers were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly- clearly well trained for the opening. Food and drinks were great, particularly enjoyed the Al pastor kebab and street corn

Refurbished and changed to Mexican food since beginning November. We ordered most of the menu. Very disappointing and not a single dish recommendable. Sad as we liked the old place a lot.

Sadly this restaurant didn’t post an update online that it was closed for renovations. Came over from Covenant Garden by taxi to have breakfast before shopping on the Portobello Road. And the there was a sign on the door. Pretty Sh!!ty to not tell people you’re closed. Won’t be back found Lowery& Baker instead 😋

Seen better times 15 years ago. The seating leather sofas in the boxes are way over used and long waiting for the springs and padding to be changed. Very uncomfortable to sit on. Service was slow but polite at least. Food - doesn't follow trends, classic but not refined to be great (as it should be as used to be!)

Lovely place for a bite to eat, especially if you manage to get an outside table. Food was good, as was service. There was a delay in bringing me my beer, so they gave it me on the house which is very reasonable hence the four stars for service.

My favorite place in Notting Hill. Have been coming for 7+ years, and both staff and food is always terrific and personable.

100% recommend, especially for a late night meal. If you’re visiting here as an American you’ll enjoy this spot for their air conditioning, late night service, clean restrooms, and friendly service. We ordered the £15 late night special which includes a burger, fries, and cocktail - such a great deal. The vegan burger was spot on. We also ordered the mozzarella sticks which were good but different from the states. It’s two larger mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce. Anyways, great spot and happy we found it. (Sorry, only took a picture of the mozz sticks)

The food was cold, the coffee was cold. We ordered an English breakfast and the eggs were very cold, the only hot thing was the sausages. The coffee was just little warm after 3 minutes waiting for the breakfast the coffee was already cold. The food was extremely expensive for what we get. £15 for a cold English breakfast plus 13.5% of service charge. So our bills was almost £50 for 2 cappuccino, 1 mango juice, 1 vegetarian English breakfast and one half English breakfast. Now imagine everything cold and the juice that was supposed to be cold was just super hot, no ice at all! All for almost £50?! Very bed experience, will never come back. Also the waitress was very no welcoming at all. But I will “excuse” that as sometimes everyone has a bad day. But no excuse for cold food. And it was even a 20degress day.

Food was great. Service was terrible. Waited 30mins to get served (15 mins trying to get the staff’s attention. One lady raced back and forth staring intently at her device. Bar staff x3 chatting away but not responsible for table service. I could go on). Staff very curt. Waited a further 30mins for food. Place emptied out so last ones ordering and eating. Loved the food. Not keen to return unless the staff are less fed up.

Staff was very attentive to the fact that it was our anniversary! They made our celebration extra special :)

This is such a cool spot and the food is DELISH! We come here every time we come to Portobello for the market. Come!!

We came for breakfast and had the pancakes with berries and mascapone and waffle with fried eggs and bacon. The food was fresh and delicious. Good portion sizes. The staff were friendly and the diner had a relaxing ambience. The booths were so comfortable. Love the retro style.

The pancakes were really ok… a bit dry. It’s a shame because the berry compote and cream were really fresh. We went for breakfast on a Saturday and you could tell they are short of staff. I had a bottomless coffee but no one really managed to top up your coffee as they were very busy.

I had an amazing experience for my 32th birthday. The staff was so carrying and lovely the 2 ladies from staff one of them Italian but unfortunately I don’t know their names, they made me and my partner feel so welcome and taken care of. They even brought my desert on a plate written “Happy Birthday” and a candle on the ice cream ball. Unfortunately we could not try the famous ribs as they had run out but overall all good amazing and the staff even better.

Only down side was the music being a bit too loud. Everything else was perfect

I came for happy hour and their Meantime IPA beer was great for a sunny afternoon! Friendly service and loved their interior design too. Will come back next time to try their food as I have heard good feedbacks!

Amazing diner. Service was incredible, very attentive and professional. Served by a lady with brown curly hair (sorry we didn’t get your name) who was lovely. Food came out very promptly and tasted amazing. Strongly recommend the cornflake chicken tenders and the ribeye steak! Drinks were lovely too. Booking details taken into account. They brought out dessert with a birthday candle which was a lovely surprise. PLUS 50% our meal because we went to the cinema itself prior. Super affordable and amazing experience. Would go again.

We had a great time - dinner and then a movie. The staff was lovely and super accommodating; one in our party needs to have gluten and dairy free food, and they did a great job making sure he had a great meal. Fun atmosphere, good food, and a nice cocktail.

Treat day doesn’t have to be a cheat day at the Electric Diner. Great selection from sweet to savory. My fave’s are the bavette steak and chips or the poached eggs with avocado. Menu suggests smashed avocado but they happily made mine sliced (as requested). Staff usually highly attentive and will accommodate any special requirements. Highly recommended

I ate the waffle and it was great. The price of coffee is even a little cheaper than in other places in London... on average €12. There is a bread with egg for €9, which is also very good.

This is a quiet little diner that serves great breakfast foods with excellent service. We sat at one of the three tables outside and watched people stroll by on a Sunday morning. Charming!

Sea bass wasn’t very filling - for the price, I would have expected at least some vegetable sides. Our pancakes came out room temperature and chewy, and we ended up returning the dish :-/

I’ve been serve a French toast that was so dried it seemed like they just put the brioche on a grill for 10 seconds each way and that was it. In addition to that the cream on top of the toast seemed to have been a grocery store whipped cream. Very disappointed as the first time I went I’ve been served a proper one that was moist and with a home made cream

We were really pleased with the correct service, pleasant atmosphere and, above all, good food. There isn't an overly extensive menu but, whatever you choose, it doesn't disappoint. On the other hand, the variety of drinks and cocktails is extensive. Very good burger, recommended, with a meat flavor that I prefer to eat without sauces. Location in the middle of Portobello. Make a stop!

We chose the English breakfast and I must say that overall it was quite acceptable apart from the decidedly chewy bacon.

Waited half an hour for my coffee had to ask for it 3 times and for sugar twice. When it came it was a tiny cup of pisswater for £5.

I recommend and always I have lovely experience, good food and good service!

Searching for a late breakfast around the portobello road google suggested the electric diner , on arrival the place was buzzing , fab (low volume) 80’s club tracks being played , and delicious looking brunch dishes prepared in the open kitchen The welcome was to be honest pretty bland , we hadn’t booked -it was busy , but we pointed out we’d happily sit at the bar and so joined other customers patiently waiting to be served , which is the only apparent issue here …waiting for service , the wait for cutlery after food has been set down, and the wait for the opportunity to have another drink or for dishes to be cleared ….it’s a real shame -and a obvious frustration to the behind the bar staff The food and drinks were delicious , from a full English breakfast to the largest slice of french toast with a delicious raspberry coulis and whipped crème fraiche , cocktails and fruit smoothies we will definitely return A little bonus , if you have a ticket for the iconic electric cinema next door …you’ll get a discount of 50% off your meal

Terrible service, we were being ignored. Food below average. What is happening to this place? In the end they took 50% off our bill. Still, I don’t think I’m going there anytime soon. Very disappointing evening.

Only half the breakfast menu was available but we were only told that after we had sat down and ordered drinks. Light at the table broken and hung down low over the table, we were asked not to touch it when we tried to fix it. Smoothies are pre-prepared, not freshly made. Juices from a bottle, not fresh. Overall v average for the price.

When you think diner most people think American style, shakes & burgers. The name doesn’t reflect this gorgeous stylish old school restaurant. Waffles were to die for and the full English breakfast was a feast! So very wonderful, it’s a must visit!

A wonderful place! I would definitely go back. It is voted as best Diner in London and I totally agree. I would highly recommend the avocado toast for brunch. The atmosphere is amazing and the sofas are very comfortable. Staff were very fast and hard working and I can’t wait to go back.

Excellent choice for a burger-dinner before going to the cinema next door. Super nice and friendly Italian service.
