Great visitor centre with a good and not too tacky gift shop, and nice big café, doing a good selection of hot and cold food and drink. A little bit characterless asa room, tall and somewhat bare, but comfortable and warm.

Called in the visitor centre for a bite to eat and look around. I had called in several weeks previously and was impressed with the whole experience so returned with my partner. The restaurant is very clean and well laid out and the staff very helpful and friendly. Good choice of well prepared food and didn't have to wait long to be served. My partner loved the experience. Lots of information about the area via a large video room and plenty of things to purchase in the gift shop. I have been go to the Elan valley for more than forty years, and the visitors centre is a must do experience if you are in the area.

We hired 2 electric bikes and spent the day visiting all the dams in this picturesque valley. We booked in advance and the bikes were ready fully charged when we arrived. The process is very quick and if you are an experienced rider you can be in the saddle in a few minutes. We asked for advice on how best to use the bikes and the best routes. A really helpful and friendly service. Almost all routes are on cycle paths just be aware and considerate of walkers. The bikes were great and we had a wonderful day.

We visited on a busy Wednesday lunchtime and the cafe was pretty busy. However it didn’t take long to get served and seated and the food was good! We had baked potatoes which came with a lovely, fresh dressed salad. Big shout out to Ester, who was working tirelessly, and with a big smile on her face, to keep everyone happy. She made our visit.

Interesting centre of information on the Elan Valley & the dams. The shop is stocked with an array of produce & artisan gifts & the assistant on duty, Marianne (named after Marianne Faithful, a singer in the '60s), was welcoming with big smiles & jovial comments. The cafe, very clean & inviting, offered roasted tomato soup on the menu. As it was lunchtime & cold outside we opted for the soup. However, I soon realised it wasn't roasted tomato soup at all but plain Heinz tinned soup; quite a let down, either state it's tinned soup or take it off the menu.

Long queue with slow service, food a little pricy but good quality. Nice coffee and tera served in proper crockery. Pasty good, flapjack good etc. While there is a charge for parking as others have mentioned, the first hour is free and you don't have to pay. I assume that it is to stop walkers from filling the carpark.

With the Penbont House cafe up the valley closed we had no choice than to use the cafe at the visitor centre. But what we thought was a disappointment turned out to be a pleasant surprise. We had wonderfully tasty sausage rolls and scrumptious blackberry & apple flapjacks...we both agreed they were the nicest we'd tasted for a very long time. The cafe is spacious and tables by the window have a close up view of the birdtables/feeding stations with a constant arrival of birds. Highly recommended.

The visitor centre has a room charting the history of the valley, including the building of the dams, a well stocked gift shop and a cafe. Dropped in here on part of our tour around the Elan valley. The visitors centre has a room showing you about the reservoirs. Unfortunately the sound quality is very poor and if there is anyone else in the room shuffling about or even whispering you will not hear the commentary. There should at least have some form of subtitles so at least you could read what is being said. There were a bus load adults as well as children and it was the adults who made the most noise which was disappointing. Just because they didn’t want to hear what was being said they should have been quiet. It would be better if the visual displays were away from the video show. The cafe was very clean and the drinks were hot. There is a short walk to the first dam on the reservoirs system. It looks bigger than it looks from the top on the roadside. Overall it’s worth a visit but don’t expect to be able to hear the video show if there are other people in there shuffling about.

Beautiful location, nicely presented place. Food very tasty after a day exploring. What ruined the pop in visit was a lady working in the cafe whose name I do not know but whose description I shall not forget. The lady had her hair up some form of odd pineapple dreadlocked affair that exposed shaven patchy hair at the sides. Her appearance is her own choice however her attitude stunk to high heaven. No patience, abrupt, rude and threw my change on the counter without even a thank you. Disgusting. Foul. Obnoxious manners. Everyone is entitled to a bad day for all I know this lady was having a terrible day but If my observations match those of others then this lady should be retrained. Should she not wish to work for you you would better be served by someone who did. Lovely rainbow cake though!

Don't get me wrong, the Elan Valley is stunning and we're glad we went but the cafe in the visitor centre.......leaves an awful lot to be desired It was only just after 1pm on the day we visited and already they had run out of most savoury things leaving a choice of vegan pasty or some spicy alternative. Maybe an oversight by the ordering department but the fact that the weather was so beautiful, it would have been prudent to take this into consideration when ordering stock. The members of staff serving however, need to learn to at least look like they want to be there. . I appreciate that staff numbers may be down but their attitude wasn't acceptable.

Absolutely dredfull. £3 to park at a glorified cafe and commercial gift shop designed to rinse you of more money. According to the youth behind the counter “they’ve only got a reduced exhibition about the Elan Valley at the back of the gift shop!” Translate this it means, half a dozen chairs and a booth showing a video on a loop - so old Lolo Williams looked in his 30’s!The parking signs in the carpark are in Welsh and 15’ high so look forward to a £100 fine if you stay longer that 20 minutes without buying a ticket.

Lovely cafe for a quick bite to eat. Reasonably priced. Good selection of sandwiches and snacks. Tables turn over quickly if you need a seat. Odd policy of don't touch the food in the queue (ie pick up your own sandwich) until you get to the till, suspect this would hold things up if it is busy.) Found the visitor centre disorganised and not suited to the number of people they were allowing in at one time (Covid rules). The entire visit included pushing and passing close to people and one member of staff who was loud and stroppy whilst trying to manage the coffee machine for a long queue of elderly people. Why on earth was a coffee machine placed inside a gift shop ? There was room in the hallway. We never bothered to stay any longer at the centre but enjoyed very much the tour around the valley by car.

The Elan Valley Visitors Centre sits at the bottom of a string of reservoirs in Mid-Wales. The Centre with COVID restrictions in place still hosts a decent cafe, toilets, shop and information centre. From here you can gather information that would fill a week with activities around the reservoirs. There are walking and cycling routes as well as more serious hill walking and hiking. At the moment the car park closes at 5:00pm which is a bit sad but these are the times (July 2021) that we are presently in. The area itself is a haven for all types of wildlife, birdwatching especially.

Something for everyone, well worth a visit. Lovely cafe. Plenty of parking for a small charge. Dogs welcome on leads. There are often free or very inexpensive activities going on. Brilliant play area for kids. We never tire of visiting.

We went on the late Bank Holiday August Monday - the place was heaving. However, there is plenty of room for everyone.

This is well worth a visit. We picked a great day, hot and sunny, which obviously makes things more enjoyable. Lovely setting near the reservoir. the cafe was busy, but clean and tidy. Large selection of cakes etc. Had a Jkt potato which was really nice. Reasonable prices too. Recommended.

The visitors centre is excellent - very informative and it serves good cake! It would have been good to see more about the workings of the dams and the hydro-electric generation equipment.

It's just a canteen, the food is poor and at best average. The cakes and sandwiches are bought in and not homemade. Rather disappointing entrance to the valley to be honest. The museum and gift shop are great but the cafe certainly needs work.

Called here with my family last week whilst holidaying in the area. My sons hired mountain bikes for an hour and went off exploring which they enjoyed. We went in and had drinks and a snack - chips and paninis - which were okay. An interesting place to visit.

Very ordinary food. Nothing exciting but nothing wrong with it. I ordered for 3 adults and 5 children. I was told to hang on to my receipt as one or more of the meals wouldn't turn up!! He was right so we ate in stages!

The Elan Valley Visitor Center consists of a little shop, information , toilets a restaurant and a room filled with the information and history of Elan Valley. There was a little video that plays that talk all about Elan Valley. Outside there is a great children's play area as well as some spectacular views and lovely walks possibilities. Lovely place only spent a short time in the visitor centre but it seemed good .

The Elan Valley itself is just stunning and the visitor centre is a wonderful amenity to have there. We used it twice last week, both on the way on for a toilet stop and on the way out for some ice creams, a drink and a look around the gift shop. The centre is wonderful for these things BUT the grassy areas around the visitors centre and the carpark immediately in front of it are absolutely covered in dog poo. I had a look around and couldn't see any designated dog poo bins. I think this might be a good idea, along with some signs and possibly even the threat of a fine, as I found this distinctly disgusting, especially with 2 young sons aged 3 and 5 who could so easily have stepped in it and brought it into the car. Otherwise, as I said, a great and useful place.

Myself and my friend retreated here during a wet and windy walk. Wouldn't never thought it was June. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Great location and good visitors centre. Food and drink pricey.

Had lovely breakfast in the visitor centre before a fabulous walk in the elan valley. The visitor centre has great parking and other facilities including fantastic adventure playground for children. Breakfast was delicious and well worth the money. Great starting point for exploring the area.

An informative and colourful video was on continuous loop. Lots of things to inform and entertain children. A good shop, but as normal in similar places, the prices were quite high. Good, clean toilets

Friendly staff, hearty, simple menu, great coffee. We stopped here after walking Crickhowell to Brecon via the Black Mountains. They weren’t bothered about muddy boots but we took off at door anyway. Toilets immaculate. Chef’s playlist that could be heard in the dining area - not a bad song on it for about an hour. Good on him!!

We stopped here to break up a long journey. Straight away it seemed very unwelcoming. My son is autistic, and because he seemed more comfortable in the corner section we asked to move tables. We were advised that was the dog friendly section, and obviously we would move if needed, it was quiet at the time, but this seem like an inconvenience to move tables. Then when my son was wandering in the pub, this seemed to annoy a couple of guests, and I know he seemed hyperactive but these are some of his autistic traits, this seemed to annoy one couple in particular, where the man was making very rude comments ( I know you have no control over who comes into your pub) but overall it just felt very unwelcoming in there. Are kids not allowed in here? It didn't seem like it. We come past this pub often, so we will not be stopping here again.

We dropped in without booking hoping to get lunch. I was with my friend and her disabled dad. They were able to offer us a table and from the start the experience was excellent. The staff member ( I think it was the Manager) came out to the car park to see if we needed any help with the wheelchair. We were promptly seated and drinks and food order taken quickly. All members of staff were polite and friendly. The food came in a good waiting time and we were all really pleased with the food. I had an ultimate burger, my friend a Thai beef dish and her dad an all day breakfast. Great portion sizes, hot and all tasty. Really reasonably priced as well ! Thankyou for such a great experience

My wife and I were staying in a B&B in Berriew which didn’t cook evening meals on a Sunday, so we decided to try this inn for our dinner. We arrived without reservations, but were quickly shown to a table by a very pleasant member of staff who immediately took our drinks order. The drinks arrived and we ordered our food soon after. It didn’t take long for the food to arrive, and it looked very well presented. My wife had lasagne, which she told me was hot and tasty, however my steak and ale pie with chips was not quite so. Again, my meal was hot, but the meat in the pie was very grisly, which was a shame as the pastry was excellent. The chips and beans with my meal were first class, so absolutely no problems with them. As we ate our meal the chef came out and asked if everything was okay with the food. I told him about the meat in the pie, to which he laughed and then walked away. Now, what’s the point in asking me about my meal if you are not going to take action when you receive such a comment? Anyway, we finished the meal and went up to the bar to pay, at which time we were asked again if all was okay. I told the member of staff at the bar about the meat and this time it had a totally different outcome, in that someone, whom I took to be the manager, became involved, and she showed concern about the fact that my meal had not been perfect. She also told me that she would be having words with the supplier about said pie. We ended the conversation coming to an amicable agreement of a goodwill gesture, so I’m more than happy with the outcome. If it had not have been for the issue with the pie then this meal would have been almost perfect, in that the staff were lovely, the restaurant was clean and in a good state of decoration, and the service was first rate. My only other comment would be that the prices were a tad dearer than around my home city of Leicester, but not unusual for a country inn.
