El Cafe in Stratford-on-Avon

Thank you so much “El Cafe”! On Saturday we had a special birthday celebration at El Cafe for 25 people.  Oh My Goodness - what to say…! It was well organised, including the variety of tapas offered and the way the buffet was presented in stages. The food was varied and really tasty! All our guests enjoyed the food particularly the patatas bravas, meatballs and prawns and the atmosphere was jolly and welcoming!  The staff were cheerful, helpful and organised and made the event very special! Particular thanks to David, Alysha and the team! We are sure to come again soon and if YOU haven’t been before we recommend highly!

Great food, good customer service, good value for money. We were on holiday in the area, came here first night and it was so good we returned later in the week.

Went for a drink..... but the menu looked great so stayed for dinner. Food was lovely and great value. We had the 5 tapas for £31 it came with complimentary bread + salad, it was all delicious and more than we could eat. The waitress was lovely and we really enjoyed our evening. Would definitely recommend

I was taken to El Cafe by family for my birthday. What a lovely experience it was too. The food was excellent, as was the ambience, but to be presented with a birthday cake, and a whole-restaurant singing to me was just so unexpected and so special. Apparently this wasn't organised by my family but happened as a result of them mentkioning the booking was for a 'small birthday celebration'. Very special and so much appreciated. Thank you David and Abraham, and all the other lovely people who served us so well through the evening. A rare find (I'm not local) and this won't be the last time ...

Great food, great gluten free selection. Good range of dishes and flavours. 5 tapas deal is great for 2 people and great wine to go with it

Having the five tapas plates with accompanying nut, olives, bread and salad was excellent value. The range of tapas plates to choose from was very good. A buzzy atmosphere and great service. A must place to visit if you are in the town.

Absolutely fantastic meal, the best tapas we have ever had. We had the chefs choice and couldn’t believe the amount and quality of the dishes. The food is high quality and freshly prepared. The restaurant is fairly small and has a lovely intimate atmosphere.

Absolutely amazing experience! Food was incredible. We highly recommend the chef’s special, we loved it so much we had it twice! Waitresses were extremely attentive and friendly. Best value for money meal we have ever had, genuinely. If we didn’t live three hours away, we’d be here every week!!

We really enjoyed it . The food was excellent and extremely plentiful. We took loads home in cartons they willingly supplied. The serving team were really helpful, friendly. They went far beyond the call of duty. We shall definitely revisit.

Staying with a friend whose family live locally - so recommended. Walk past was entirely satisfactory - booking easy. Friendly greeting on arrival - assistance with seating - considerate staff when a patron wanted a cigar - we were smokers! Food 4/5 - service 5/5 - easy relaxed venue - friendly , casual ambience - outdoor lighting - professional standard service . P out rations more than adequate, very reasonable - as was the wine list. Would go again. A great.evening.

Having read good reviews thought we would try as we’re staying in the area. It was a Tuesday night and raining and we were the first booking of the night so would be unfair to criticise the ambience too much. We were seated near the bar covered in what could only be described as a marquee canopy which did feel a little strange and made the room cold with the door open, perhaps further inside is cosier, few candles wouldn’t have gone a miss. The prices have increased compared to what is showing on the website, understand prices are rising but should keep potential customers up to date. Food was okay, ordered the wings, prawns and calamari, not huge portions, would have ordered more but didn’t feel the non-meat tapas represented value for money at £6.95 a dish Plates served on a canteen style tray which hardly enhanced the experience. Complimentary bread and olives a nice touch. Did feel rushed and the waitress did start to clear plates whilst I was still eating, not sure on the rush as there were only two other tables filled. I can imagine the restaurant would have a really good vibe on a Friday / Saturday night with warm weather as there is outdoor seating but unfortunately we didn’t get that experience. Thankfully we were able to laugh about it on the drive back to where we were staying but feel others who had our experience would have been very disappointed.

Such a lovely atmosphere and food. Staff were lovely and attentive and the cocktails were great. The cocktail bar down the road was overpriced and the cocktails were tiny. Go here instead

Food was incredible, probably the best patatas bravas I've ever had. Didn't have to worry about dietary requirements, it was all covered in the menu. Staff were attentive throughout. My only complaint was that it was cold as they had the doors open, and there was a bit of meat in my husband's lemonade glass.

Having read all the rave reviews we felt it would be worth booking in for a trip to Shipston. Don't get me wrong the staff were friendly although having the meal interrupted every few minutes by a different waitress checking if everything was ok become a bit much. once or twice during our meal by the same waitress would have been just fine. The food was average except the calamari which was over done. Having to pre book an amount of time for the dinner was not something i have had to do before and at the end of our allotted time we was asked to move to a bar table....we left instead. It all felt rushed and not at all a relaxing time.

After reading some reviews, we expected something amazing - so we did a 45-mile round trip just to have something to eat here.The service was brilliant which gave us hope.The food was poor and the toilet filthy (even our 3-year old said "disgusting" when we tried to persuade him to go in there).We can put up with poor service if it means excellent food in a well maintained premises.Ideally, we'd like great service, great food, great premises.Would we recommend this place?No.

Never written a review before but following on from a family meal in El Cafe felt that I needed to. Great service and wide selection of authentic Spanish food with good service. Was so good I bought some of their products to try at home

having heard great things we decided to visit and have the set meal, very disappointed, very greasy, lack of choice and all very garlicky/ spicy. Certainly didn't resemble any tapas we've had in Spain and we've been to Spain every year for the last 10 years. On a positive note service was great and friendly and it's not expensive just not to our taste.

I only stumbled on this cafe when I parked down a side street and saw some tables and chairs at the back of the cafe. I assumed it would be your bog standard cafe doing all day breakfast and sandwiches....how wrong can you be. The menu is large and varied and offers English items and Spanish tapas and pizzas. As I didn't have much cash on me I ended up ordering the pizza for myself and the hueves Havanas (excuse the spelling) for my boyfriend. The lovely waitress brought me a wine to try whilst we waited. The food came out within 20 minutes and was piping hot. I can honestly say it was the best pizza I've ever had (and I've lived in america and travelled extensively in iItaly, so I like to think I know a bit about them) and my boyfriend raved about his food too. Not only great quality, but very reasonable too - £19 including a glass of wine and a cappuccino too). It was also lovely that the owner chatted to us for quite a while. Very friendly ambiance.Overall, a great experience and we will be back soon.

After reading lots of great reviews I booked for my partners birthday. The warm welcome and service we anticipated did not materialise. In fact we felt a little ignored as there were some 'regulars in'. It is small and cosy so not a lot of room to spread out and we did feel cramped up. The food was piping hot which I always appreciate and some nice twists on some of the dishes. The only disappointment was the prawns which were a bit hard and tasteless. Good creme brûlée. We will go again and try breakfast ..but know what to expect this time. Good value for money.
