Two guard at entry are so rude, they are not allowing me in, I had payed for my drinks as well, what the kind of hospitality is this , please educate your team, this is unacceptable, I have their pictures as well. These are guys who are ready to fight as well. It's 9 January my whole team is inside and these guys are seriously, they are not allowed me in, , I just asked them to ask to bring up my jacket from downstairs, that is just kept next to the door, this is just happened to me, this is ridiculous and these guys are ridiculous I had friends party at this place and these guys are ridiculous , I will says to everyone not to come at this place. They are fighting with guest . ONE OF THE SUBSTANDARD PLACE. But the staff inside are nice really. Atmosphere are also good, just entry boys are not good, teach them hospitality. I am from hospitality background only and I know guest are first and these.guys are just messed up everything. I never ever come at this place, neither of my friends. And teach them good language also.

Do not come here. Horrendous place. Read following message that had not been acknowledged by the venue: I have experienced DISGUSTING discriminatory behaviour. I came to this bar hoping to enjoy music from my homeland and instead my friends and I were greeted by horrific bouncers who denied us entry due to one member of the party being “too drunk”. This member was male and only walked up to the door having had ONE drink. Upon asking for the reason of denied entry, one bouncer informed us that three of the four were allowed in. I disputed this and asked if that member had acted in a way that would not follow venue regulations/displayed any signs of aggression to which the bounce replied “no he hasn’t but it’s just my opinion.” Another bouncer piped in despite not even being present. I think your behaviour is disgusting. Neither me nor ANYONE that I know will EVER return to your venue. I hope you understand the implications of your bouncer’s behaviour and I WILL be taking this to social media and beyond. DISGUSTING and UNACCEPTABLE. Shame on you.

I used to go to El Barrio for years but I moved away from Edinburgh, last Sunday I was forced to pay twice for a champagne bottle the bar tender told me to pay for the same bottle twice he said the transaction was not sucessuful I had no battery to check my bank app, I complaint to a manager and he says if I pay two times for the same bottle is not their problem , be aware never use your card there .

Fuimos una noche a tomar algo y cada vez te cobran una cosa distinta. Nos cobraron más por dos chupitos que por dos cubatas... Eso ya fue el colmo. Y cuando intentas hablar con el manager pasa de tu cara... Nos amargaron la noche.

Bouncers were verbally abusive to the group of friends I was with on entry and used excessive physical force to another customer later in the night. Bartender took far too long to make a drink and came in a hot glass presumably out the dishwasher. Atmosphere was generally ok but the staff ruined the experience for me.

As I strolled into El Barrio this evening, I was met with hostility and a cold attitude from all staff. The waiters kept farting near us and blowing their fart clouds into my face on purpose. I was absolute horrified with this behaviour. Would not rate el barrio at all. A hate crime was committed.

It’s sad as there is no crowd or visitors. Don’t waste your seconds or £ as it’s not worth a visit. Have had better Mohitos.. And the place is cold in winter 🥶

This one star is for the DJ, who plays my favorite spanish song twice. The rest of this bar doesn't deserve any..... Very unpolite and unmotivated staff, who failed their job!!! Never saw such unable bartender. Digusting cocktails (but just TWO!!!! Others aren't possible) with plenty ice cubes

My Spanish friends took me here because I wanted to go out dancing and this place delivered when it came to that. The animated crowd is the best part of this establishment, with drink specials that are better than most places in Edinburgh, which has steep prices most of the time. The music was, to my chagrin, a bit 'janky' and 'jerky' as it weaved between genres a bit too quickly and it was hard to get a feel for the dance floor or the DJ's intention, but the festive people made up for this and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

We had a table booking for 15 people for El Barrio on a hen night. The first part of our group arrived at 9.55pm, we then told the lady on the door that the other 2 cars were just minutes away and slightly held up in traffic, she told us that this was absolutely fine and she’d let them in. When the rest of the party arrived at 10.06pm we were then told by the lady behind the bar we all had to pay £6 each for entry (10 people). The lady behind the bar was aggressive, rude and unprofessional. She was screaming and shouting at members of our party who were questioning the £6 payment rather than politely explaining as to why 10 of us now had to pay to get in. We reminded her that we had a table booked and that we had been told that being 6 minutes late was okay but she told us that she didn’t care and the club didn’t need our business. Our whole party left due to this aggressive female. Wouldn’t recommend.

Ayer pasamos por el bar y nos emocionó ver un bar latino la puerta de madera estaba abierta y entramos y desde arriba de las escaleras sin bajar preguntamos si estaba cerrado o si iban a abrir y desde abajo un chico de forma agresiva nos dijo que estaba cerrado y salió una chica española MUY MAL EDUCADA a decir que si la puerta estaba cerrada era porque estaba cerrado, y me dio tanta rabia que les dije que no tenían que ser tan groceros que solo estaba preguntando. Si asi responden por una simple pregunta no me podría imaginar como seria el servicio así que no me tome la molestia de entrar ni volver. Bad manners, unfriendly staff and aggressive

Had enough of the bad attitude of the staff to be honest.... will avoid this place in the future. Overpriced drinks and poor service .

Went to el barrio and ordered two bottles of beer and three gin and tonic - the tonic mix from the gun was off, so they made it again- with no gin!! I complained again and was told there was no way, but I literally watched the bartender pour the drinks. Otherwise okay.

The night was December 30th if 2018 and me and 12 of my closet mates decided to form some mean shapes at el Barrio Night Club. We had heard so much from other mates who were not present that the group consensus was to go to El Barrio. Firstly the security were very professional and welcoming. My safety was not in question at any point of the night. Secondly the serving staff were so friendly and served me and my friends with smiles some even spoke to us in their native tongues (I.E. Spanish). Which was a pleasant twist. Secondly one of my mates had damaged his finger prior to walking into the club which affected his ability to get funky and boogie on the dance floor. One of the serving staff and security personnel saw my mate in distress and came over to make sure that everyone was okay and they even brought over a glass of ice for my mate to use for his damaged finger! What legendary staff!! Lastly I will like to discuss the music which in my opinion was just super quality from the moment I walked till the moment I danced out. To the security personnel, serving staff, DJ, and management thank you for what was an incredible and unforgettable night for me and my mates! I look forward to returning to your dance floor. Estaba en el club un sábado por la noche con mi novia y le dieron a mi novia una ginebra en lugar de vodka, no por lo que mi novia pidió y porque mi novia los corrigió para que ella pudiera comprar su vodka. Bought a couple of drinks then some considerable time later two latino staff confont me on the other side of the bar in a threatening manner to say I havent paid, which wasnt the case, I was actually being robbed. In a previous visit I ordered a brandy and coke and got coke no brandy spoke to another patron near me who experienced the same. I didnt let it spoil my night instead I saught the service of the sole non latino staff member who didnt attempt to rip me off. Seen on the website the staff posing with gang signs like little rappers. Truly a pathetic bunch of low lifes.

Yo sugeriría evitar este bar si eres una chica joven, mientras veía a la gran gorila redonda con el pelo oscuro intentar introducir algo en la bebida de una de las chicas de nuestro grupo. Cuando lo enfrenté se hizo el tonto y al otro gorila de turno no le importó nada cuando se lo dije. Salimos de inmediato, no regresaremos, tienen suerte, no llamé a la policía.

Como visitante de la ciudad (ningún bebedor) nos dijeron que no podíamos entrar por el gorila más rudo que he conocido. Cuando me preguntaron por qué no podía ingresar, obtuve la respuesta "No necesito dar una respuesta". "Él repitió 10 veces. El servicio al cliente más horrible que haya presenciado. Evita esta barra

Fuimos ayer a este lugar después de ir a otros lugares ya que estábamos haciendo un rastreo de pub por nosotros mismos.

EL PEOR LUGAR NUNCA. Ojalá pudiera calificarlo por debajo de una estrella. El personal allí es tan horrible y grosero, hacen que Donald Trump se muestre educado. Mi experiencia fue horrible y los porteros eran increíblemente sexistas y solo permitían cierto "tipo".

The black owner of the club who had an affair with a girl kicked a group of 5 students out of the club because one of them was talking to the girl. Some other people started beating the students and got kicked off. Worst place to go if ur students! HIGHLY UNRECOMMENDED!11

The operator was being aggressive over some girl who accused me of spilling drink on her when that was NOT the case. Apparently, personal feelings towards individual customers are more than enough to get you thrown out like a dog. Extremely unprofessional.

El ambiente dejo que desear el día que estuve, así como la musica y el personal. Ni siquiera para pagar 5 libras que es lo que costó la entrada.

Visité El Barrio un miércoles a la noche con mi compañero. Era entrada libre y todos los cócteles eran a mitad de precio. Los únicos cócteles que parecían servir eran mojitos, pero no nos importó en absoluto. ¡Había tantos sabores diferentes! Probamos el clásico mojito, el mango y la frambuesa, todos deliciosos. La música era muy buena:) No hay muchos lugares donde escuchar música de reggaetón, así que me alegré de haber encontrado El Barrio. El personal también fue muy amable. Regresamos a El Barrio la noche siguiente (jueves por la noche) porque lo disfrutamos mucho. Fue 5 tarifa de admisión, pero no nos importó, los cócteles también volvieron a precio completo y había una multitud mucho más grande allí. Sin duda volveremos por tus deliciosos cócteles y buena música.

I loved this place the last time but how wrong I was. We were all having a great night after booking the place with my work for our Xmas Party. We were just dancing and having fun. I went outside for a cigarette and while outside I witnessed the bouncers being very rude to a group of women trying to get in. When I interjected I got refused entry back in. Then I proceeded to get the usual " I'm a hard bouncer nonsense ". In all my days I have never witnessed such a couple unprofessional Staff. We will never be back and due to the emptiness of the club I'm guessing these guys are the route cause !

I have a good experience of working in bar so I can recognise drinks well.Last night me and my friends had tequila shoots back to back but felt like it was mixed with a lot of tonic water.It didn’t hit us at all we felt like we are all sober.The place has good music that is the only plus point.The crowd is good for mid age people not for youngsters.

Locale carino per chi ama ballare musica latino americano. Dispone di un angolo bar molto fornito. L'ambiente è piccolo quindi nei fine settimana c'è una bella calca di persone, che inevitabilmente te la ritrovi addosso. Ma nel complesso è un ambiente simpatico. Lo consiglio

No hay muchos lugares en Edimburgo, donde se puede disfrutar de un poco de reggaeton en una noche de sábado. Afortunadamente hay el barrio. Gran personal, buena gente dentro de la puerta.

Mientras yo estaba bailando con un amigo me eché un miembro del personal de tomar unas copas detrás de mí. Terrible sorpresa cuando me enteré de que él había tomado toda mi mojito. Me quejé con el gerente, y se negó a llevarme el piso tres personas trabajando para pedir. Finalmente la chica estaba con él logrado convencer a devolvernos el mojito. Aparentemente sin una queja de su desdoblamiento son inútiles en el barrio. En la parte superior de que tenía que devolver el guardarropa cuando tomé mi abrigo y comencé mi camino antes de mi amigo organizó el reembolso. No parece probable que nunca volver.

He estado en el barrio y Muchas veces yo siempre! Muy buen ambiente, buena música y personal muy amable y servicial! Créditos especiales a Waqas, Camron Maquinho y por su excelente servicio al cliente.

El barrio has to be my favourite place! All staff are so welcoming and always very polite! The bar staff are always so cheerful and patient-very good prices for drinks!! The doormen team are such nice and friendly people- especially the head doorman Waqas- always asking if you're ok and always puts a smile of my face! Definitely recommend going to El Barrio on a Saturday night, you won't regret it!!

We use to go there so dance some latin music and we love it! If you like reggaeton latin music and nice ambient this is one of the places that we choose.

Great place to go for dinks on a night out! Never had a bad night in there. All bar staff are really friendly including the door staff which is very hard to find these days. Not got a bad word to say about the place highly recommend you drop in!!

Encontré este lugar hace casi un año, cuando yo estaba buscando un lugar agradable, con buena música latina. Desde entonces sigo viniendo. Es un lugar muy concurrido durante los fines de semana, a veces un poco demasiado, ya que no había mucho espacio para bailar. Eso es lo único que no me gusta.

I lost my purse which was found by one of the doormen at the club, he messaged me to tell me he found it and handed it into the club lost property. All money and cards were still in the wallet when I collected it, for which I am incredibly grateful!

Stopped off at El Barrio quite late on our way back to our hotel. I had been there before when it was busy with a good atmosphere and people dancing but on this occasion it was very quiet and decidedly boring. It is quite dingy and not well kept.(It is a bar/club so does not serve food.)It was far better when it was situated in Rose Street.Give it a miss!

Locale piccolo,.pista quasi inestente, e grandissima pecca, si spccia per locale di salsa quando fa solo ed esclusivamente reggaeton e commerciale. Ha messo 2 salse in 2 ore e 3 bachate degli anni 2000. Insomma, locale adatto a chi ama prendere da bere con amici e fare due passi di ballo, ma non di certo per ballare salsa e bachata.

Went here at weekend with 5 others (3 couples). It was around 9pm, not busy but every table/seat was reserved so couldn't sit down. Our drinks had been around £25 per round in previous bars that evening. However on asking for same round in El Barrio the bar person asked for £39 .... We questioned the price and asked for a till receipt. She had to go and get a till roll from somewhere and then took around another 5 mins to print our receipt. This showed our drinks were costing £7-£9 each, we again asked why this was so expensive and were then told "They're Doubles". We explained we hadn't asked for Double measures and she shrugged and shoved her hand out for payment. We payed and then a few minutes later noticed a group of women having a lengthy chat with lots of head shaking with same bar person. When we asked them what was up they told us they'd questioned bar bill and had been told they'd had .... Yes you guessed it .... Doubles !! I don't believe there was actually doubles in our glasses .... Just lots of ice .... But we didn't want to invite any trouble so we drank up and left. Definitely won't be back to be Ripped Off a second time.

Shocking !!! rude bar staff, ordered 5 spirit drinks and a bottle of sol , was shocked at the £40 price , asked staff for a receipt and quizzed the cost, barmaid said she poured doubles which was why it was so expensive , (which we never ordered) she shrugged her shoulders and walked away , no alternative drinks were offered , to be honest the venue could do with a major overhaul - including staff training exercise .Would never return !!!! Very poor management !!!

Briefly in January with my 2 friends we went to El Barrio. Random guy approached one of my friends saying to her that she have to dance with him, as she did not want to and said “no thank you” he pulled her hair. Unfortunately there was no reaction at all from any member of security. After 2 minutes the same guy was chatting with one of the security, and they were having a good laugh. I approached both and asked the security if he's not going to do anything after my friend got attacked? I got ignored and verbally abused by the same guy who pulled my friend`s hair in front of the security. Still no reaction from security at all. I'm extremely disappointed. Have never ever been in such a situation where in a club I had to defend myself, and my friend, where security have not done anything! Following we just left the Club feeling hopeless, abused and anxious. Place under extremly poor management, with rude employees.Would not to recommend anyone to visit. In addition mostly heard negative feedback about El Barrio. Boteco is far more secure and pleasant place to go and enjoy Lationo music.

The atmosphere is great, if you want to have a fun salsa night then this is a good place. Staff friendly and people enjoying dancing. Good stuff. A good night to remember!

busy club good DJ, clever tricks no space to keep drinks so you got to keep drinking and as soon as you finish you head to the bar more then more every card transaction you pay a £1.00 fee which is a great way of making money in days where have almost stop using cash money. One very rude male staff i was getting served by i wish i knew the name so could do something.

Went to this establishment against my better judgement and I now know why!.. Testosterone fueled men looking for women, couldn't even hang out with a female workmate without the fear of bullfight... Far to serious and full of thieves! Watch your belongings people!.. Jacket stolen within two feet of where i was sitting..

Just do yourself a favour and don't go here. Terrible establishment, dingy, horrendous decor, cheap spirits in plastic glasses, rude arrogant staff. Can't speak for the establishment in Edinburgh but unfortunately Glasgow one doesn't have own trip advisor page so this one will have to do as they are same company. Will not last much longer in Glasgow, can guarantee it!

La semana pasada tuve la suerte de poder ir a visitar a mis amigas a Edimburgo. Una noche decidimos salir y fuimos a El Barrio, porque pensabamos que nos gustaría ese tipo de música. 1- Cuando llegamos, pagamos nuestras entradas y entramos al club. En ese momento había una clase gratuíta de baile latino. Pedimos un mojito para empezar (delicioso) y una de mis amigas trató de unirse a la clase de danza. Al profesor le debió molestar y le invitaron a abandonar el local -repito, habíamos pagado la entrada- hasta que acabara la clase, porque entendió que si no seguía correctamente los pasos, no se tomaba la clase en serio. Finalmente les convencimos de que mi amiga se quedara.2- Más tarde, yo, personalmente pedí una ronda de chupitos para el grupo y una copa para mí. Tomamos nuestros chupitos, cogí la copa y unos minutos más tarde vino el camarero (es el colombiano) a acusarme de haberla robado. Por supuesto, me negué a pagarla de nuevo.El caso es que alguien tomó la copa de otro cliente que estaba a mi lado en la barra y decidieron que yo había tomado la mía y la suya. Intenté hablar con el camarero, ya que he trabajado como encargada en el mismo sector, para hacerle entender que yo había pagado mi copa y era precisamente la que me estaba tomando, me dijo textualmente: "Si trabajas en el mismo sector, entenderás que él se va a gastar más dinero y por tanto, tengo que cuidarle a él, así que tienes que pagar". 3- Vinieron los encargados de seguridad a echarme del local POR ROBAR! Con el recibo de mi pago en la mano dije que lo comprobaran, fueron a hablar con el camarero de nuevo y esta vez dijo que me había reído de él cuando me había pedido pagar -no me burlé de él, pero obviamente, la situación me pareció más que absurda-. Finalmente me invitaron a salir del local.4- Más tarde, en la puerta, exigí hablar con la que en aquel momento decía estar al cargo, una chica española. Y lejos de ser resolutiva con unas chicas -nosotras- de vacaciones, con ganas de pasarlo bien y (desde el punto de vista del empresario) dispuestas a sacar la tarjeta, no atendió a razones, no escuchó nada, no comprobó mi recibo de pago y fue descaradamente maleducada.5- También me dijo que las cámaras me habían grabado cogiendo dos copas -IMPOSIBLE-, pedí que las revisara y si de verdad era así -INSISTO, IMPOSIBLE-, no sólo abandonaría el local, sino que pagaría también esa otra copa que me habían acusado de robar. Una vez más no lo revisó. Cinco minutos más tarde, el señor que se suponía que iba a gastar tanto dinero abandonó también el local, me pidió perdón por el malentendido y calificó la actuación del Staff como lamentable.Si quieres pasarlo bien, aquí corres el peligro de que te arruinen la noche.

We went there late on the 1st of January and despite the bouncers telling us not to bother my wife and friends went in. I refused to pay the £5 entry fee as a matter of principle.They said there was only one or two in there and that the salsa lessons ended at 9 or 10 but as soon as they walked in the skilled and enthusiastic tutors got them up and dancing and they had a great time,.I would imagine on a busy night it's a great place to visit.

The staff were so rude and were more interested in looking at their own reflection, we had never been out in Edinburgh before and this happened to be the first bar we saw, how I wish it wasn't. The drinks were ridiculously overpriced and the atmosphere was strange, when we walked out the police were walking in, so that says it all really.

It's a cool place, good latin atmosphere, not excellent drinks but I can't complain more.Only for latin and contemporary music lovers.

My Partner and Myself came in for a nice sipping tequila and were given little or no help. We were told that there were loads of different tequilas that could get quite expensive, we were only given the option of the cheapest and the one above, no other help than that. Myself I'm not of latino background but I do know a fair bit about tequila and the reason I came here is because I was told this place was a tequila bar, customer service has been non existent, I have had more help at a self scan checkout.

Save you hard earned cash cash give it to a homless person.... i have never witness such rudeness in my life ..... if i want to be glowered at i would sack a member of staff.....

Excellent and friendly, great cocktails, dance lessons available. Authentic salsa music creates a great vibe.

We arrived as the bar opened around 8pm a group of 13 our rounds coming to an average of £50. we found went to the back of the bar and gathered enough seats for everyone. we were there for around 2 hours and spent around £200. 2 of our group went to have a cigarette , during this time a young woman later identified as a manager came over and started taking chairs , we explained to her the seats were being used. she was very rude and took the chairs anyway at this point we left, we had been recommended the venue and were looking forward to a great evening this wasn't a nice experience. we would have spent plenty more money . The round I personally paid for was with a debit card and I had t pay a £1 charge considering it was over £50 i was very surprised i asked for this to be wavered as it was a big round, they said it was policy, it wasn't the £1 it was the good will.

We were a group of 15. Been there for over and hour and the female manager came and took 3 of our seats although we said we had people sitting there who had gone for a cigarette. She said she had bookings and didn't care. Her attitude stinks so we left. If she had a booking why hadn't she done her job and reserved seats for them in advance of the bar becoming busy!!

Good music, good people, good drinks and fan dance. The people is very friendly and warm. It was really like a Latin night.

We met a guy and his girl at Boteco Do Brasil he recommended this being a hot spot, so we jumped in a taxi and got priority entrance based on who we were with. Only problem could not get a taxi back to our hotel it seems they don't pick up in certain areas in the early hours of the morning even though we had walked to princes street.

What I can say... I had there so many great nights. When everywhere is quiet, there is always busy. I have always really enjoyed the parties up there. So good tequila boom boom. The climate is specific. Awesome people. Highly recommend for someone who likes Latino.

Nos habían hablado muy bien del sitio, ya que ponían música latina... y al ser de Uruguay quisimos ir. No está mal, pero no es nada del otro mundo, el servicio, de la chica encargada en concreto,muy malo, antipática y bastante desagradable, ya que no nos explico como era la forma en que se servían las copas, que es muy diferente a como se sirven en mi país y nos contestó muy borde al preguntarle ; de resto buen ambiente y fantástico para bailar música latina.

My friend and I thought we would pop in for a look and a drink but that was a big mistake. The bar maid was incredibly rude and unhelpful and had very poor product knowledge of basic basic drinks ie, rum and coke! When we pulled her up for pouring the wrong spirit she rolled her eyes at us as if it were our fault.The price of the drinks were ridiculousy expensive especially when such poor service was involved, and the server was more interested in talking in Spanish to her friends beside us. To top it off the place smelt like a toilet or sewerage. Will definitely not be returning or recommending this place to anyone.

Μου άρεσε πάρα πολύ η μουσική και ο κόσμος στο μαγαζί. Η ασφάλεια του χώρου φοβερή και έτοιμη να επέμβει. Τα ποτά παραείναι τσιμπιμένα, το οποίο δεν συμπεριλβάνεται στην τιμή εισόδου(6£) >:( . Κατά τ'άλλα καλή σας διασκέδαση και καλό καμάκι! ;)

The man teaching salsa is a real psychopath. if you don't join in and are just swaying on the side of the dance floor he gets mad and in our case asked the bouncers to chuck us out! he also grabbed my friends arm rather brutally! and she's a small framed woman. also drinks ridiculously expensive and watch your change!

If you like salsa, reggaeton and some other Latino disco music, this is the place to go. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. However, the fact of finding a guy in the gents toilet offering you towels, perfumes and whatnot (clearly expecting some coins in return) really puts me off.If I were the owner I would seriously consider hiring another team of bouncers.

Muy buen ambiente latino justo en el centro de Edimburgo.Recomiendo ir a bailar por la noche, la entrada no suele ser cara pero los tragos pueden ser algo más costosos.Por lo general allí se junta la comunidad latina de la ciudad junto con europeos que gustan de los ritmos caribeños que suenan a la noche.No probé la comida, pero me comentaron que también es muy buena.

The atmosphere was very good. We had strawberry mojitos which were very good but the only downside is it was expensive.

i've been last night in edinburgh to have some fun in city center and i ve been to el bario. It wasnt what i expected maybe i've been there in a bad day for club.

Booked a table on Saturday night for 24 people, it was a Hen Party, we intended to join in the Salsa class and then we had other booking to go to. When the dancing finally started we didn't want to leave, such a great idea would love to have been able to stay longer. The only thing I would say is we booked a table and the space we were given was not large enough for our group but once the dancing started that didn't matter.

A great place, from inside looks a bit like a tropical bar from Caribbean islands, bar staff it's very smile and friendly, the music what's most important it's fantastic itself; the mix of salsa, reggaeton, kuduro and a bit of house straight from South America. I'm very often guest of this and I'll not hesitate to come back next week.

...for salseros! And not only! Nice people& good music reasonable prices. I will come back while next visit :)

Me gustó el buen ambiente y el tipo de música que tiene el local a partir de las 00,30 a.m. Y no gusta que cierren a las 3,00 a.m. (excepto en agosto que cierra a las 5 a.m.).

It seems like the bouncers here are genuine gangsters by the way they approach people. The last 3 times I have tried to enter the bouncers would not let me enter while still allowing others. Really annoyed and worst possible experience from any bouncers, as well as that the manager wouldn't even talk to me on two occasions as to why I was Denied entry.

An excellent night. Went with some girls after work and it was fabulous. Awesome booty shaking music and cheapish drinks. Totes recommend it!

We went to El Barrios on Thursday night, it was really busy at the bar, good mix of music, a lot of dancing, the boom shots and mojitos are a must do. I lost weight keeping up with it all! Best night out in Edinburgh in a long time. We will definitely be back!

Last night was the first time I had been to El Barrio in a long time and I wish I hadn't. We ordered a single rum (Goslings) and coke and much to my shock we were charged an appalling 10£. We were not informed of this before we purchased - something you would expect on such a ridiculously overpriced drink. Apparently we didn't get charged for the mixer because even the barmaid was embarrassed charging us that amount. When we approached the manager he shrugged his shoulders and continued to finishing eating his sandwich ever so professionally whilst explaining we should of chosen something like Malibu instead - not even the same type of rum. Working in a bar myself I am shocked and appalled at the poor level of service and the outrageously high prices.

Went last night with three friends (Italian and Spanish) , we had a really fun night, good music and atmosphere! We danced all night! Latin, pop, reggae and cheese music...The staff seems nice, when promised my friend the best mojito of her life the barman delivered! It was the best one she had. Will definitely go back! Pity the very few seats and the fact that you have to pay to enter when many clubs don't charge....All it all, it is something different to try!

Everything bad about a club. Horrible little place run by unprofessional staff. Make certain and check your change. Overpriced and wrong change given 3 times by different staff. Horrible seedy atmosphere and the clientele appear to be just as bad. Do yourself a favour and avoid this downmarket venue if you can

It's a great place to dance.. always buzzing with great people and superb atmosphere, the price for drinks is very very reasonable. DJ Ludy is an awesome guy with some great tunes in his pocket. Also.. don't worry about your coat - there's a wardrobe at the end of the dancing hall and the club is kept clean so you can enjoy your time at the maximum :)

Staff unprofessional. You need to check your change all the time couse they don't like to give back the correct one. Two times we had a bad experience with the staff, they don't allow you to seat more then 5 min without ordering drinks. They were push as couple of times so we were decided to leave the bar.

Could be great if it wasn't wasn't for the general manager, who is extremely rude, and the gangster like bouncers. The bar itself is a great fusion of Latin and American with a reasonably priced selection of drinks and a nice ( if slightly cramped) feel. As long as its not too busy and the obnoxious general manager is not around your fine. Otherwise expect to feel like your intruding on a very select private members club.

Where I live there are no salsa clubs so my boyfriend and I thought this could be a good laugh and i have to say , it was! It was very busy (a saturday night I think) and there was a mix of latino/pop/dance music which I thought was good as I am not a salsa dancer! However if you are a salsa dancer I imagine you could be a bit disappointed at not having salsa all the time.

While the name El Barrio might conjure up images of a snake-hipped Romeo with a waxed chest and white loafers, gyrating alongside a Latino temptress with a rose in her teeth, in reality it's very, very far from that.More of a vomit-filled drunken free for all than a club, the punters here aren't necessarily here for a good time so much as to get as utterly annihilated as possible, before collapsing in a pile of their own vomit, discharge and feces.Grubby surroundings, an atmosphere of excessive inebriation without a hint of aggression, and cheap prices. You can't really ask for much more.

I've been here a couple of times. Actually i like the el barrio on rose street much better since it was much bigger and the ceiling was much higher. This one is ok. I like the music but not the place. It is very dark very underground, it has long queues during the weekend and not enough room inside

Mirrored ceiling, sticky floors, cheesy tunes, what else do you need for a hen night!

Edinburgh institution - melting pot but in a really good way....

I believe there are two El Barrio locations in Edinburgh. The one my wife and I dined at was off of Hanover St, which is no more than a typical basement converted into a Mexican bar/restaurant.In general El Barrio tries to be a fun dining experience, with fairly interesting servers, a big colorful menu, and "party pictures" of past patrons. All of this is fine and dandy, however what we were disappointed with was the food.Portion size on our fajitas for two was what I typically expect for one person. When questioning our server why they provided 10 small tortillas with only enough filling for 4 tacos, he replied that this was the typical serving size. We finally asked the manager, who provided us with one more small chicken breast, but still left hungry. Food quality and price were both also poor. Chicken was very overdone, and for $30 we felt like we were ripped off.El Barrio is a tourist trap. I recommend staying away by finding another local place on Rose St. You will find multiple Mexican restaurants in Edinburgh, by I'm told by a local friend that none are good.
