We've walked past here a lot and always thought that it looked lovely. We popped in today at lunchtime with a couple of friends and two children in prams, the guy at front desk was lovely - he said there was room upstairs but he'd go and ask their manager who was using a downstairs table, if we could use it. We stated we were happy with whatever, it's not the first time we've carried a pram up some stairs. Next thing, the guy from the front desk comes back and starts to talk to us, then the manager comes out and interrupts him and takes over, which was rude as hell and not a nice way to treat staff. The manager, visibly irritated, asks us if we have a reservation, we say no (again) and he proceeds to gesture shooting himself in the head and started talking about wait times with some hostility. We just popped in to get some lunch with friends and got treated like we were a major inconvenience - also pretending to shoot yourself in the head in front of anybody, let alone kids, not a good move. Left that place feeling incredibly uncomfortable.

We've been here a few times over the last year, mostly for lunch, and the service is always friendly. The menu and food is well thought out and mostly well priced. They've also been able to accommodate us (a party of 5) - without a booking - a couple of times, which we appreciate. The only criticism would be that the last two times we've been, when we've come to order, it's turned out that the menus we had weren't accurate, so not all of the dishes were available. It's a little bit frustrating, and one of our party is a stroke survivor with aphasia, so the change can be a bit confusing while they have to process the new information and try to decide again.

Had a lovely experience here, we drove down from Sussex and are staying locally for the Christmas lights at Longleat. We (3 adults and 3 children) rocked up around 8pm on. Friday evening without a reservation, we were greeted by friendly staff who soon found us a table. Lovely menu which made it quite hard to choose but, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and wine, “wow”’s and “omg, that’s good!” comments abound! My Wiltshire steak was cooked to perfection, the pizzas were delicious and the coffee liqueur aperitif was sublime!! Very reasonably priced at £170 for mains, desserts and drinks all round, including a 10% service charge. Will definitely visit again!! 8/12/23

Made reservations to eat a pizza on Friday evening. Busy but a cozy atmosphere. We had delicious pizzas from the wood-fired oven. Everything is made in-house, no frozen products. Free water. Please note during checkout. The significant tip is already included in the final price!

Visited for my mum’s 50th birthday, we organised it as a surprise for her. The staff were so helpful and accommodating throughout. Service was super quick, the food was outstanding and wine also delicious! A big thank you to the Stony St team who made it a seamless occasion. I would always recommend this place - every meal I’ve had had always been fantastic.

Light lunch yesterday. Imaginative menu. We selected two starters and one main as ‘small’ plates to share. Very nice indeed and appropriately priced. Hope to return.

I visited yesterday evening with my Husband and two friends. I’d booked a table for four a few days earlier. Our friends arrived first and were seated upstairs already, having given staff my name on arrival, but when I arrived with my Husband, two staff members were very confused at the door by our arrival, asking for my name multiple times (even though it was booked under my name). I don’t understand how our friends’ arrival managed to cause so much confusion, surely it’s common for diners to arrive at different times under one booking? I even told them multiple times that the booking was for four people, but it still managed to baffle them. It didn’t fill me with much confidence or give a good first impression. We were told at the door that they needed the table back at 8pm (2 hours duration), which was fine, but I was reminded again when seated, my friends were reminded when they were seated, and we were then reminded again by another member of staff, which was excessive and unwelcoming. I already knew that we had the table for 2 hours as it was specified on the booking. It’s fine to remind your customers once when they arrive, but not multiple times like that. The waiters were extremely eager to take our orders, we’d barely had time to look at the menu. We all felt rushed, again. The music was then turned up to a ridiculously loud volume. We asked them to turn it down as we were seated right underneath the speaker. This wasn’t possible we were told, so they moved us to a table in the corner. It was a wobbly table, probably one that nobody else wanted. Not a single member of staff helped us with the transferral of food and drink to the new table which was also disappointing. Once we were moved onto this table, we were forgotten about. Nobody came and asked if we wanted any more drinks, we weren’t given any water. I asked for some chilli oil with my pizza and I had to go and fetch that myself as it was forgotten about. Why the waiter even bothered asking, I don’t know. Nobody asked if the food was ok at any point either. Our plates were finally cleared, yet we had to wait until 8:35 until we were offered the bill. So we were basically sitting there at a table in the corner for over 30 minutes being ignored. Several staff walked past, even the male at the front door who told us we needed to leave by 8pm and multiple waiting staff, yet nobody spoke to us at all. When the waitress eventually came over to offer the bill, we calmly but firmly explained what happened to us. She screwed her face up and offered a forced apology, but only when further challenged. She seemed confused and couldn’t be bothered to understand what had occurred, even though she had been present throughout the later part of our reservation. We basically felt like an inconvenience and it was very uncomfortable. When we paid the bill, she walked off immediately after the transaction had gone through without even saying thank you or making any conversation. Nobody said goodbye downstairs either. Staff just seemed to not care in the slightest. The food was ok, but the service let the whole experience down massively. Staff just quite frankly seemed inexperienced and couldn’t be bothered. I won’t be returning which is a shame, as I visited at the beginning of this year and it was nowhere near as bad. The best part of the evening was catching up with our friends, but what a let down the restaurant was. Thankfully the service charge was removed at our request.

Came for unexpected meal at 7pm on a Friday, seated quickly by very polite and attentive host, nice atmosphere but not too noisy to have a conversation. Great food, good wine and alcohol free cocktails! Definitely recommend the sweetcorn fritters and the tiramisu ☺️

What a lovely find, right in the centre of the stunning cobbled streets of Frome. They do Sourdough pizza too which is a bonus for those that can't eat too much wheat. The view from upstairs at night is glorious .

Really liked this place. It ticked every box for me. First, the location was nice, the atmosphere was good, and the whole place is nicely presented. The toilets were particularly clean and neat! Second, the food was decent, with an interesting selection and some nice flavours. And third, the staff were very friendly. We could see the manager there and she was obviously very attentive, making sure everything was running smoothly as well as serving customers herself.

Overpriced for what it is. Came for lunch and had pizzas. Location is great and the restaurant itself is very nicely laid out and has a good atmosphere. Food was….fine. The gluten free pizza was doughy and got the impression it had come from a frozen job-lot. Other pizzas had barely any toppings (or even cheese!) Considering they were upwards of £18 each, I would expect better.

My husband and I have been here a few times for different occasions and while we can see the huge potential this place has - with an incredible location and decent wine selection - there have been issues each time we’ve visited. From room temperature champagne served in dishwasher-warm glasses, to slow service at the door as well as once seated, and empty wine boxes stacked up messily next to the entrance. The layout of the place contributes to the chaos: there’s a table slap bang in the middle of the shop section meaning that if a group is sat there, you feel entirely rude squeezing round the back of them to look at the wines, which is unpleasant for everyone. Also, staff often try to seat diners at a high table in a throughfare, when there are plenty of other more appropriate tables available. With a bit more thought about the customer experience and attention to detail, this place could be great. However, the lack of staff experience (apparent in the kitchen, which is visibly messy and disorganised) and the impractical layout is preventing Eight Stony Street from being the venue it should be. We hope that things improve in 2023 as we'd love to have a go-to place for wine expertise and brilliant food and service. Edit/update for visit on 30th July '23: Brought visiting family to have lunch and unfortunately things haven't improved. Long wait for food, inexperienced waiting staff and poorly made dishes meant for a frustrating lunch. Noticed we weren't the only ones wondering where our food was. The final straw was that our visit has been followed by upset stomachs. Will not be visiting again until it's clear that improvements have been made. Such a shame.

Waited an hour and a half for food. Service rubbish. Kitchen staff on go-slow. No one owning the situation. Food when it came either cold or burnt. Don’t bother. Better places

Amazing food just a pitty the kitchen forgot to make our food. The table next to us were seated after we ordered and they had paid and left before our food was on the table. Nothing done to put right apart from an apology

Cold atmosphere. Had to wait 45 minutes for two pizzas on a quiet Wednesday night, our drink was forgotten, and the welcome was non-existent. Felt like we were in the way rather than valued customers. When they finally came the pizzas were pretty good.

We hired eight stoney Street for a party for 100 on a Sunday. The food was really tasty and well presented; the tea and coffee great and the service was really slick. We wanted the large group to mingle in smaller groups and the layout is spot on for this.

Update: as below, Kent got in touch and we went back for lunch - apparently previously there were staff issues in the kitchen which had affected last time we went. This time was a world of difference: the waiter was very lovely and diligent, and the (fantastic) food and drinks came out very quickly - this time, we didn't get too hungry to enjoy them! Would thoroughly recommend a lazy summer lunch with a glass of wine to anyone. Previous review: Went in for lunch and it was very, very slow. Took ten minutes before someone asked us for a drink order, at which point we were ready to order food - which then didn't come for 45 minutes, which feels an awfully long time for pizza, esp. without warning or apology. It's a shame as the food is great, the setting is lovely and the staff are all very nice - but, as with last time we went, everything is just too slow!

Been here several times, including a birthday meal, which was VERY well received. Most recent trip, we had their amazing Gluten free pizza base, the best we've had in a restaurant that doesn't specialise in it. Lovely, welcoming and capable staff as ever 🙌 We weren't overly impressed with the Aioli, but they dropped it off the bill. Many thanks. See you next time.

Ate here for lunch, good food, the menu was mostly brunch and pizza, but unfortunately very slow. We were told there was only one chef, I think they need more for the number of tables! The servers were all lovely but I don't think I can give more than 3 stars for service after the long wait.

We visited as a group of 4, the food was great, but the service was very slow (20 minutes from ordering a drink to it actually coming to our table). The food prices are reasonable, but the soft drink prices are crazy. I'm not sure how you justify £3.20 for a 200ml bottle of lemonade

Second time back, was a definite for our return to Frome. Great food, really good wine selection at a variety of prices, and good non-alcoholic options too. Perfect view to look out on, and well priced food with good service.

I come here every time I am in Frome. I love the space and the menu is great for vegans and meat eaters alike - thoughtfully put together. At night the cocktails are great, cool atmosphere for the evening

We've been coming here since they first opened. Initially they were great and the staff have always been friendly but these days the food is really hit and miss especially when the price is considered. Last time we came everything was really greasy and oily. Also the ladies toilets smelled so bad it was like they were on an open septic tank. Stony Street sadly seems to be going down hill in a big way.

We came here without booking for an evening meal with our 2 year old daughter. We received a warm welcome and were able to eat before the diners with reservations arrived. Food was really good; excellent selection of wine; and great service. Very impressive place.

Really friendly staff, quick service on a Saturday lunchtime and really filling pizzas!

Waited half an hour to have a drinks order taken, another half hour for a bad soup, and another hour to not get mains before we cut our losses and left. Pathetic really, restaurant wasn't full, no communication from servers. One star seems generous.

Very cold evening, took most of time to warm up. Food was excellent, no faults.

We were disappointed by our last visit. It was a busy evening but the service was beyond slow. We only order two pizzas and they took over an hour from ordering to table. No one came over to apologise that they were delayed, no one mentioned when we arrived that they were running a little slowly. They just gave us our wine and the next saw them at the table they didn't come back until we had to waive one over after 40 min to see how much longer the food would be. They weren't apologetic, just said 'we're really busy tonight'. We've been in a few times, it was no busier than usual and I could see 3 empty tables. We're not really complaining types and a bit of free bread would have gone a long way. The food was excellent, but by the time it arrived we'd had the whole bottle of wine (the wine having arrived long before they came to take a food order order).

Lunch with friends renewing our acquaintance with people from Wildings Salisbury. Great service as always, warm, friendly but relaxed. The food offering as good as ever, with a special shout out for the Market Fish (sole with capers kale and sliced potatoes - absolutely outstanding thank you. Look forward to next time

Very disappointed this evening , we ordered food which was fine , and a bottle of white wine . The wine came to the table , was poured and when I had a drink it was warm , not chilled at all . After complaining it was taken away and after 10 minutes the same bottle came back on ice . Our only option was to top up our existing glass with the slightly colder wine but it was still not cold . After complaining again I was offered a new glass but that would mean leaving the original warm wine . I said to take the wine away and I didn't want it , Then the waitress abruptly told me that I was offered a new glass! For a restaurant that sells quality wines I find this whole experience very disappointing ,the wine was £28 so leaving half of it as it was warm wasn't an option we were prepared to do

Attentive and professional service. Confortable tables. Good location. Great for lunch. The vegetable plate was a great starter. The vegan risotto could have been more flavoursome. All in all a very good experience.

New Year's Eve ticket £65! We went for New Years Eve & after hearing how good the food was last year we were disappointed with the very small to small portion sizes. There were delays in between each course & our main course was luke warm & we had to return them all. £6 a pint is also too much! This is Frome not Bath. The DJ was asked by one of our group to change the music and after this a lot of people got up dancing, wrong type of music for a New Years party The staff were friendly & attentive I'm sorry to say we won't be coming back.

Very disappointed with our New Year's celebration meal. Last year's was very good, plenty to eat and drinks were at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, this time, it was a complete contrast! It was an hour before our first course arrived, you could fit this on your finger nail! Our second course was probably another half an hour later, and was a slightly larger portion. Then it was a further half an hour wait for our main course which when it arrived was less than luke warm. The portions were small, but the food was delicious, just spoilt by the fact it wasnt a reasonale size portion. It was disappointing to see the owner and his table of guests receiving very hot and large platefuls of food. The sweet was, just as disappointing, lacking in flavour and substance. To cap it all, we were offered an aperitif, either a limoncello or a amaretto which we had to pay for, considering that our spend at the table for food and drinks had by then exceeded £850! The staff were great, very attentive, courteous, though I'm sure a couple more on the night would have helped speed up the service. It could have been so good, it is a great venue with a lot of character and atmosphere, will need a lot of convincing to go back again to see in the next New Year.

We have had breakfast at this place and it was great. Unfortunately lunch service in the run-up to Christmas is another matter. They weren’t even close to being full but advised that there would be a wait for food as the kitchen was overwhelmed. We wait ages for drinks, had to ask for water and after 45 minutes our food still hadn’t appeared despite other tables around us getting both starters and mains. The person who took our order was surly and totally disinterested and didn’t even have a basic grasp of how to look after his tables.

Had the Xmas meal. Cold turkey, a bit of kale and 1 potato that looked liked it was frozen and had been warmed up. The chocolate pave was very underwhelming. It was not a good Christmas meal. Can't comment on their normal food. The staff are lovely and there were heated seats which raised it from a 2 to a 3

Visited twice over two days. The first for coffee, the second for dinner. Both experiences were great. Had a mocha and it was lovely and smooth. Dinner was for four of us, and a pup. Waiter recognised the dog 🐕 which we loved. Risotto, burger and pizza were the chosen dishes and there were no complaints. A friend commented on the portion size of the risotto as large, but she nearly finished it.

We didnt book a table, was a rather spontaneous decision to visit again. There were no tables but the young man who addressed offered us chairs until a table became vacant. We got a table fairly promptly and the service by the staff was very warm amd friendly and the "nibbles" we ate were delightful. Thank you 😊

We have dined here many times, the food is always good but the service can be slow at times, was really good this time, staff were friendly and attentive, service was quick and much better than previous times. Lovely ambience in the upstairs where we were and wasn’t cold (which it is been in the past as well). Will be back!

Rung up to see if they could do a wine delivery for me to some friends. Service was polite and efficient. On the day I asked for the delivery to be made it was done, exactly as I asked. I`d just like to recommend them to anyone else thinking of sending a wine delivery. Fast, efficient, polite. Top service.

Came in and were seated and told we could order food. Then when we went to order were told we couldn't have food as they were fully booked! Really poorly organised. Left hungry and disappointed. Luckily found a better place to eat with better prices.

Visited for coffee @ lunch enjoyed the market day fish with new potatoes veg in a lovely sauce. Others had the Pizzas, which were very good. The wine selection for take home is fantastic, your spoilt for choice. One criticism on entry we were greeted and seated quickly, upon leaving nobody acknowledged us or said goodbye.

They were very kind to let my daughter and I use the restrooms even though we weren’t customers. The restrooms were lovely and clean also. I saw someone’s food on the way out and it looked epic 👌

Great views, wine and pizza. I didn't like the garden board but that could be a preference thing. I think it had pickled cucumber which was not for me and put me off the rest. The toilet was ok but 1 sink for 2 female toilets isn't ideal. However, I'd certainly go again.

Soggy Ceasar salad, way to many anchovies + capers..we were refunded on that. Burger mediocre, veggie dumplings nice. Pizza was OK, but too much anchovie! Nice wine, but very expensive

Arrived on time for an 8pm Monday reservation to find the restaurant closed. Considering I had travelled for 80 mins to get there, as you can imagine I won't be recommending them to anyone. Terrible service.

My friend and I have visited Eight Stony Street multiple times for dinner and they never disappoint. The waiting staff are lovely and just the right level of attentive. The pizzas are always tasty and I love the chocolate torte dessert they have at the moment.

Popped in for an early dinner and we were greeted with a friendly welcome. Super attentive staff who were great with our two-year old. Cocktails were great and the food was like a magic merry-go-round of flavour. Worth a visit!

Excellent experience - lovely layout/decor, great service and delicious food. We were particularly impressed with the veggie options which were a bit different from your average. My husband had a glass of crémant which he rated highly.

What a gorgeous spot with an inventive and delicious menu. Thoroughly recommended

This is an excellent venue for those with a discerning taste for wine or gin (a token allowance is made for those whose tastes do not rise further than sweet foreign fizzy drinks) I was advised of the existence of this establishment by my boss, who does seem to get around a bit. The front of house staff were affable, knowledgeable and most helpful regarding what to drink and order. As this was the first visit by my karate sensie and me, it eased the initial moments of our stay. The cellar and range of excellent vintages is totally commendable - it would a really particular palette not to find an agreeable libation. Just one word of warning however - and a star could be withdrawn had we suffered this unduly - on some of the finer wines, there's a rather harsh corkage augmentation - check before you buy the bottle to drink in-house. Lovely big window, where it is very nice to sit in the sun, drinking fine wine and watching people pass by.

Second time having pizza here and again it makes me look forward to the third time Service is absolutely perfect. menu is packed full of options yet not over bearing. Lots of seating and not all cramped together even on the busiest of nights. Eight stony street proves that not all pizza is the same. Great tasting ingredients and you mouth will water the second you walk in Toilets nice and clean

First time there. Pleasant atmosphere and nice decor. Friendly staff. Prices commensurate with the times. Situated in Frome Somerset, an interesting historic market town. Worth a visit.
