Had a bit of time to kill so popped in for a brew and a cake. Not a bad selection but the chocolate cake was a little dry and needed some cream. However they only do clotted cream not pouring cream. The brew was nice, once I'd exchanged the cup with lipstick on. Mistakes happen and its how they deal with them that's important. Not a bad place to relax.

Nipped in for a lunchtime bite, the place was quite busy, they had a good selection of sandwiches and tasty dishes and several specials. When our drinks and food came we had to change tables as ours was too small but the staff were very efficient and helpful as we did so.

Just had breakfast bacon sandwich, it's the best bacon sandwich I've ever had. There's a deal any bacon sandwich with tea or coffee for £3.50 before 11.30am

Third visit since it opened in the Market Place and cannot recommend highly enough the Cream Tea :- choice of freshly made sandwich & a scone with clotted cream; jam all served on a 2-tier “cake stand” plus a pot of tea or coffee all for £6.95 !!! Considering it was all prepared to order the service was quick and efficient. So much better than the multi-site nationals. Try it ... I’m sure you won’t be disappointed First floor between Tui Travel and Debenhams.

We have tried the new Eight cafe which is accompanying the box office in the Market Place whilst the Octagon is being refurbished. The food was beautiful, very reasonably priced and service was prompt and polite. Five stars as simply no complaints could be made! The Rarebit toastie comes highly recommended!

Nice meal at the octagon. £17 for 2 courses. Crepes were a bit tasteless. Didn’t know that prosecco was available until after the meal as it wasn’t advertised. Overall pleasant experience with friends.

We nearly always eat when catching a show. As the play in question was east to east all the food was based on Indian cuisine. I had the tandoori salmon and found it quite authentic having spent 3 holidays in India. It was very busy but everything went well. I hope they don't spoil it with the refurbishment.

We came to the Octagon to watch the opening night of East is East (which was excellent) and decided to treat ourselves to the themed 2 course dinner before the show. We shared 2 starters betweeen 4 which was plenty to give a good taste of the food (chicken and coconut skewers, amazing) For mains we had a nice variety of dishes (peanut and beef curry, tandoori salmon and a lamb dish) and all sampled each other's, all our mains were gorgeous, well presented and served by very friendly staff. Then we shared 2 very generous cheeseboards for dessert. The atmosphere was lovely, with the cafe being at the front of the theatre complex there was plenty going on and it's a good place to people watch. For £17 a head we had no complaints, all of the food was great.

Booked to take the whole family to see A Christmas Carol. Decided to eat in the cafe as it is convenient for the theatre. I ordered coffee and a slice of cake, and an Octagon Rarebit for my husband. I received my coffee and cake straight away, we were told the rarebit would be with us as soon as possible. (at this point the cafe was not full) After two bites of cake I took it back to the counter as it was too dry to eat (Coffee and Walnut cake). I explained what was wrong to a staff member who seemed to be responsible for delivering the food, and asked if I could exchange it. She removed the cake from the display, prodded it and pronounced it 'dry'. She then proceeded to prod the Lemon Cake, apparently found that acceptable, and left it in the case! She did not apologise, and when I asked if I could have a scone in exchange (this being cheaper) she put one on a plate with butter, and carried on with her work. With no refund of the difference in cost. Unfortunately the scone was also dry, but not wishing to cause aggravation, I asked her if there was supposed to be jam with the scone, she said yes,and I explained that the scone was also dry. She raised an eyebrow, gave me jam but no apology. The cost for a coffee, pot of tea, scone and 'Rarebit' (one slice of toasted bread with cheese) was £13.70. My main complaint is that she offered no apology for either of the items I complained about, In future I think I would be inclined to avoid this overpriced institution with its surly member of staff

This is a cafe through the day and a restaurant at night. I think the name cafe could put people off if the haven't been. We go all the time and food is very good. The service matches that so give it a go

We arrived and asked where the restaurant was only to be told we were eating in the café. Shame it wasn't café prices. We had a tiny table for two that we could barely fit our plates onto. The food was tasteless - despite one of the recipes being taken directly from the BBC good food website! The early bird menu at Nicks on Chorley Old Road is the same price and there you would enjoy a sublime restaurant quality meal.

Visited this evening before the show, the staff are very welcoming, the food is presented lovely, the 2 course deal is good value. It's a shame that lager is only served in small bottles, throughout the octagon complex, this really needs rectifying. Certainly will visit again.

Went for lunch at Eight cafe (Octagon) on 13th June 2017, the staff was very friendly, and gave a good service. There is a good variety of sandwiches, salads, soups and hot foods on the menu, and reasonable priced. The food arrived promptly, presented well, and tasted good. Eight cafe had a family friendly atmosphere, good wheelchair access. I had a lovely lunch & would go back.

Truly taken aback by the extreme expense of anything here- horribly expensive- very disappointed. Buying anything feels like robbery as you pay unreasonable quantities for barely any food. Also very crammed and overall not a pleasant experience.

Mi amigo y yo reservamos para cenar antes de asistir a la Octagon para ver el Invierno de cuento. La cena es simplemente como lo es para el snack bar que está abierto todo el día. Hubiera sido mucho mejor haber visto bien mesas dispuestas...

Had lunch here today and lunch was freshly prepared (cheese and bacon toastie ) and the side salad was exactly that, not a few scraggly lettuce leaves thrown on as an afterthought! It was nicely presented, generous portion sizes and the staff very pleasant. Will be booking a table when we go to see the next show at the Octagon next month. Not too badly priced, would recommend

Visited here for lunch, ordered our food at 11:45 and was told that the food I ordered couldn't be made until 12, strange. The food was though excellent, not a massive menu but it seemed to be freshly made, I ordered wedges on the side for £2.50, see my pic for the tiny portion!!!! £2.50???!!!!!Overall good food but not a place to visit when in a rush in your lunch hour, however suppose have to accept this for freshly made food.

Had an early dinner before the show in this bistro/cafe next door to the Octagon Theatre. Casual atmosphere, very friendly and informative staff, who were helpful with timings for our show. Enjoyed a super starter and a great lamb curry - there were so many items with the curry we had no room for desserts - which looked great. Altogether a great start to a fabulous evening. Well done.

We always top our shopping trips off by calling into the Octagon eight cafe bar it has a lovely relaxed feel to it. The food is great their homemade soups are a meal in themselves however if you call in and there is "The Bluecheese bacon burger"on the specials board do not miss its to die for!!

The menu is quite small and simple but it fresh, looks good and tastes excellent. We have tried nearly everything on offer and never been disappointed. The added extra to this is that if you have booked a table before a show, you can leave a part bottle of wine and they will put it back out for you at the interval. How good is that. So come on, get booking.

We came to see the Family Way last week and as is our way, had a meal in the Restaurant. The staff are very friendly, obliging and efficient. We had potted salmon with toast and pear and Stilton tart (very small portion) as starters and roast lamb for main course followed by coffee. The food was delicious as always and the House Red went very well with it. It is a great way to start the evening prior to watching the play. The on road car parking is right outside the Theatre and it is usually easy to find spaces. Our one observation is that the prices in the Restaurant have gone up significantly from last season - 2 courses for £17 and 3 courses £21. When you add the cost of wine, tips and the cost of the theatre tickets, it can become quite an amount to consider!

My wife and I have eaten here a couple of times since it was re-branded last year. It's in the foyer of the wonderful Octagon Theatre so well worth combining a meal with a play but it will work out as quite an expensive evening. The food is wonderful - imaginative and fresh and the menu changes regularly - but it is a tad pricey given that this is really a glorified cafe and it can get a bit noisy as the audience starts to mill around before the evening show. Great place to meet for a chat and a coffee in the town centre!

This is a small place and, obviously, very busy when there is a play on, so you would be wise to book. I found the staff very helpful. My starter was delicious and the main course was fine. I would certainly go again.

There aren't many smart places in Bolton, but this is nice. Unfortunately when i stopped for a coffee the pastry my wife and I had were like rocks. More fossilised than stale. The coffee was also average. a shame as the staff were pleasant and it is a stylish place. very disappointing

Booked table, and when we had arrived they asked if we wanted child's area as we had 3 children...this was great as it keep them entertain until their food came.. Service was great by all staff we interacted with, especially Sarah and Mia.. we wasn't rushed to leave and it was very relaxing. Was a little let down by the food, wouldn't necessary have a carvery again within the week..but the kids meals where great.

The choice of dishes is very poor. The establishment has nothing to attract. The prices are definitely too high!!! The pizza is no different from the one we buy in the supermarket, only it is very small and designed for one person. The cocktail is in a glass full of ice and when I take it out there is only 1/4 of the cocktail left in the glass... It turns out I am paying over £10 for ice and they don't ask me if I want it or not. The large canape of chicken liver pate was no different from the store bought pate in terms of weight. It was simply strewn with flowers. It is obvious that the restaurant does not strive to feed its guests well. The food is mediocre, like from stores, only 3-4 times more expensive! The cocktail is just a full glass of ice and a little drink at the bottom! I do not recommend this place! And yes, guys, why do you brazenly add tips??? If a person is happy with the food and service, he will still leave a tip... But if he is not happy, then why should he leave a tip????
