Ego at The Pomeroy, Amersham in Chiltern

I came to Ego at Pomeroy for the first time yesterday ( Sunday 20th October) for my 35th Birthday and I had wished I hadn’t if I’m quite honest. I booked the table of 4 after a recommendation for 8pm. I first rang a head on the evening because I was worried I was going to be a tiny bit late as I am disabled and walk with a cain and my mother also walks with a cain. I was then told on the phone by a lady who spoke very fast that I couldn’t come after 8.30 as the kitchen would be closed which I thought was strange as when I booked I could have actually book past 8.30 but I assumed that the team wanted to get out early so I rushed my family to get there on time. When we arrived at 8.03 were half greeted at the bar and asked to wait at the hosting station but it was quite evident that the staff were sniggering and smirking and look like they didn’t want to greet us. The part of the restaurant that we sat in, was busy and looked like there was only the one server working the restaurant. Although we were told the kitchen was due to close at 8.30 our order was taking just before 9pm. Nearly everything was available except when my partner ordered the STONEBAKED GARLIC PIZZA BREAD with 1/2 MOZZARELLA & 1/2 TOMATO which was on the menu but he was told it couldn’t be done even though he could have had either topping by themselves, it seemed as if the chefs just couldn’t be bothered. Once the food came it, we will admit it was nice the pizza was slightly overcooked but the rest was good. The only saving grace was that our server Georgia was very nice and had to pass on the messages from either the kitchen or the manager who I never saw once on floor. Disappointing to say the least.

Steak night - mine ok daughters inedible so sent back for more cooking - still tough and gristle. Told waiter - no-one cared to even acknowledge from management. I go often at lunchtime - don’t think I will go back. Waiter was good but nothing he could do. This is why places lose business - bill was still quite big for what we had to be honest - steak night a bit of a joke unless you have the rubbish rump which wasn’t great.

Me and my bestie went there for lunch .it was lovely food and great staff, always someone there to serve you. Please bring back the mussels in white wine sauce they were to die for

You have to ask twice for each item you need as waiters are too busy.

An amazing fund. Staff very warm and friendly. Very welcoming. There was an outside eating area which looked really nice (weather permitting). Decent parking. Dogs were made welcome in the bar area. Another bonus was the amount of choice made available on a full menu for Vegans.

This was my 5th visit to The Pomeroy and it didn’t disappoint! Excellent food and service, as always. There was live music too, provided by a very talented duo. A most enjoyable evening. I’ll be back again - soon!

I have been a regular customer snd celebrated my mother's 90th birthday here with afternoon tea. My disappointment is that I often received promotions with discounts attached, one being my birthday but after booking for this; found that upon arrival the discount was unclear and only applied to the the three course Al a Cart menu. Disappointing as we was keen to have a two course Sunday roast and received no discount whatsoever. Would probably book elsewhere in the future.

Wonderfull staff good food what more do you need

Second visit to Ego. Once again great food, great service and great value for money. This time we wanted a lighter meal for lunch. A good lunch menu with the same dishes, only with smaller portions. Will definitely be returning.

What a great meal. Food. Service was amazing Loved the setting. Only one reason I knocked a star off the review. Omg the flies buzzing around our table were sooooo annoying! They were coming from the bar. Everything else was perfect 👌

Lovely atmosphere, food fresh, hot, tasty. Service was excellent throughout. Declan, our waiter was helpful, knowledgeable and intuitive in his service. Excellent.

The food was very good , all of us really enjoyed it. The drinks as well did not disappoint. The only comment was that it was difficult to get the waitress attention at times. Sometimes they were just talking to each other and not paying attention to the customers, however they were very polite and accommodating .

£30 for fillet steak and fries, asked for them to strain the thousands of unnecessary peppercorns out of the peppercorn sauce, apparently this request was ridiculous and he asked me do I know what I'm asking? Said no before even asking the kitchen if this request is possible. Cocktails are great, atmosphere is great however other than that, not impressed. Was absolutely disgusted with Anya's attitude, by the time by steak came it was completely overcooked despite already being served a medium steak when I asked for medium rare.

Polite attentive good service. I was only single table in full house for 2-course £20 Sunday lunch. V.smooth tasty Pate starter was a good choice. CHICKEN LIVER & ROSEMARY PÂTÉClarified butter & pink peppercorns, toasted bread & spiced plum chutney PAN-ROASTED PORK FILLETWrapped in Serrano ham, served with pork, sage & onion stuffing and apple sauce Pork fillet in parma ham filling. Fluffy roast potatoes. Beans a bit al dente for me. Carrots sweet. Parsnips id usually love had odd taste? so didnt eat. Yorkshire pudding perfect. A decent value meal. Not best to-date but 1 near miss out of 15 visits is a good record. I definitely recommed. A la carte menu excellent Sea Bass amongst other good options.

Driving past decided to.pop in for Monday lunch. They have a wonderful set menu for Mondays - food was outstanding, service great. Really worth the visit. We will we back. Loved every moment of our lunch and outing.

Our party of 18 was very well looked after by the team at the Pomeroy for a 40th birthday meal. The restaurant caters excellently for kids and was diligent with the various dietary restrictions amongst the group. Food was very good and service excellent despite the large group size. Won’t go back the food was dreadful

Declan was delightful. He was very professional without being overbearing took care to ensure we had everything and made one or two helpful food suggestions. Lovely manner and very pleasant to speak to. He should go far.

It was a last minute booking for 2 but the online booking system was really easy and we received a warm welcome on arrival. The ‘conservatory’ area is the best - light and airy with plenty of space between tables. On our visit the service was very quick and waiting staff were helpful and pleasant - plenty of smiles! The food was excellent and we got a good deal with the vouchers (which regularly arrive in my inbox). The drinks and an extra dessert meant we paid £25 each for a really good meal and evening out. Highly recommended!

Nice modern interior in an older building. Good food and service whIch is want you want. Pint of Ghost Ship was not the best I have ever tasted. Should have had Camden.

Next time if we are on our own (2) we would ask for a quieter table if it was busy

the manager was v helpful, so i have to be fair. my b.d. invitation accompanied by my husband. i am a vegan. my soup was lukewarm, returned to be reheated and was then fine. the courgette and corn fritters, inedible . lukewarm and because fried, were cloying and unpleasant . i asked for broccoli , beans and chips instead , which were good. we did not have dessert . the vegan menu is fairly basic. i tried the veg risotto previously , but that was terrible. asked if there was a vegetable shortage , as it consisted of rice and the odd dot of a vegetable . my husband had soup and steak, which we’re fine. the bread accompaniment to soup is standard and untoasted. no choice as to white, brown or sourdough. we were given butter for the bread, mine was not was not vegan and quickly removed

Great food and service. Vegetarian Paella was worth the wait. Noticed, there were quite a few flies, but living locally I know this is an issue for other businesses and NOT related to cleanliness

We all had roast and sadly wasn't good. Beef was chewy, pork was hard, chicken was good, yorkshire pud like cardboard and veg virtually inedible. Gin and rhubarb crumble was excellent

There is only 2disabled parking bays, both were used so no-where for me to park! As my husband was driving, he found a slightly wider bay - I would have left! I enjoyed my meal - Morrocan Fafelel-lovely. The other guests thought the food was OK (there was nothing wrong, they just didnt enjoy it as much); the service was great. There is a disabled toilet here too. I have also eaten @Ego at the Flying Fox,Woburn. Loved it too!

I had the paella which I had for the first time. I felt that it had been reheated because it was completely stuck to the base of the dish and also congealed. I have never had any reason to complain about the food before. I visit this restaurant frequently..

An otherwise really good lunch time experience was marred by being told that the 20% voucher i had been sent 4 days before by yourselves was out of date !! I sadly was made to feel it was my fault and i was trying to produce an expired voucher - which left me feeling embarrased with my fellow diners - as it was me who booked and recommended the venue. Perhaps a little more investigation and understanding by the member of staff in question may have been preferable. I have now emailed EGO to question why I am being sent out of date discount codes - to avoid further embarrassment

A really lovely spot this place has - with a lovely green out the front too! The bar area is really swish and the food really tasty! We spent a fair few hours here just catching up with family, and had both lunch and dinner here! Whoops! ha! Really enjoyed the atmosphere, and food, we will be back!

Visited the establishment on a busy Wednesday evening. Its a shame they had run out of the vegetarian fritters by 7.30pm and only told us that when I was ordering them. My guests enjoyed their steaks and overall the food was very good but commented that the fishcake starter was not very big! Service could have been a little brisker but overall a lovely evening - we would definitely go back.

Food was delicious, Declan was really chipper and made sure to check in on us - was a bit busy at lunchtime so there were slightly longer wait times, but the service was still brilliant. All staff were polite and cheerful.

Avoid this place. Rude bar tender and manager! Unfortunate as it a nice place!

steak was just a disappointment... we chose this local restaurant for dinner. but it ended sadly. we ordered 3 steaks and different cooking levels were requested for each. but almost all of them were overcooked, almost burnt. when we told this situation to the waiters, our plates were sent back to be made new ones and our second plates were again disappointing despite all the efforts of the chef. they tried to rectify this but with only with a little discount. i think the only thing that deserves a score should be the young waiter Micheal. he was very kind and helpful throughout the entire evening.

We had a lovely time as always at Ego. We sat outside as it was a hot sunny afternoon. The service was impeccable and we didn’t have to wait at all during our visit. We had the three course Sunday roast. We had the mushrooms and the prawns for starters and I had the lamb and my friend had the beef. The portions were a good size and the meat was cooked to perfection. For dessert I had a coffee and the Eton mess. It was a very enjoyable lunch and I will definitely come here again

Our first visit to Ego,for my mother's birthday began with a warm welcome and choice of tables. The varied menu was full of exciting ideas and selection was easy and filled us with anticipation. Service throughout the evening was excellent, polite and informative. Food quality superb, with my mixed meat kebab cooked perfectly. The celebration for mother's birthday was given a surprise by the presentation of her dessert which contributed to the evening in style...the manager and staff made the evening very special. Four of us had lunch. Three were very satisfied with their meals, I had the steak pie which was perfect but the vegetables were `tired` and disappointing. Leathery broccoli and soggy chips.

While the M25 was blocked on the journey home, we came down an alternative route where we made a quick stop at the Pomeroy. We liked this area, and returned for a short holiday. With dog in tow, we came for a meal and stayed in the front bar. The food was surprisingly good, the staff were friendly, and it seemed a popular place to visit. As we were at the front, it's easy to miss us to check in on. Contemplating returning again soon!

I have been to the Pomeroy many times and have always found it to be excellent. Yesterday I opted for sirloin steak, at a surcharge of £6, which unfortunately was very gristly and chewy. I didn’t complain, which on reflection I probably should have done, but after the excellent food I have enjoyed on many past visits this was a disappointment. I will definitely go again but will avoid the steak! !

Lovely location ,nicely laid out ,good atmosphere,service professional if perfunctorily friendly. Food so so, if Mediterranean then more East as not Greek or Italian tasting for sure, food taste very mediocre! Shame!

Sunday Roast beef inedible, tough and gristly. Food served on cold plates.When the waiter came to collect our plates I mention the beef, he said should have said at the start of the meal and walked off. when he came back with the bill I tried to explain that if he had come over and asked how the meal was I would have mentioned about the meat.However he looked out of the window totally disregarding what I was saying. Never ever have I come across such a rude waiter, he really let the rest of the team down.

We had a nice meal last night in main restaurant area - excellent menu - food was great and served by great staff - noisy but that’s because it was packed out ! Will definitely be returning to sample the rest of the menu

Any, well a small supplement for steaks, but any 2 courses from the a la carte menu for £21 on a Monday. Great value, very tasty, I had moroccan lamb and served quickly. I recommend you book. We did as we wanted to eat in the bar area with our dog. Will be back soon, thanks.

Nice meal large group didn't like the pre ordering 2/3 days in advance and ordered medium rare steak but it was a little too pink for me

Stopped here looking for a sandwich for lunch. Lovely pub, very busy on a week day lunchtime, which made for a great atmosphere. Good food, staff were lovely. Large car park. Lots of tables, inside and outdoors. We had steak sandwiches and skinny fries ~ only downside was we were asked if we wanted the steak pink or well done, we said pink but when it arrived it was cooked almost to well done. That said it was still a good sandwich.

Was here tor Father's day lunch, food here has always been good but this time the chicken supreme roast was kinda OK. Chicken was too dry and the roast potatoes way over cooked.

Utterly, totally shocking. Poor below words on every level. The apparently Italian waiter was possibly the rudest waiter in Buckinghamshire. Food was abysmal, almost as diabolical as the waiters attitude. Told to leave our table after 1.15 hours as they were busy, yet there were empty tables and we had long pre-booked for our group of six. One of our party’s food was taken away before they had finished (actually, probably a blessing!!). They provided the wrong menu, advised rudely about what could be ordered. It was a truly horrible evening. Overall, the very worst dining experience of our lives. AVOID.

Went with 11 friends as we were celebrating a birthday. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the service was good food very nice I myself went for the Moroccan lamb and was lovely . Would love to return again soon

Another lovely evening at the Pomeroy this evening, we were served by Dani again who is fab! We also visited back in March for my mums birthday and Dani along with the chefs made it so special by doing a desert for my mum. The team at the pomeroy are always professional, attentive and welcoming. Plus the food is delicious! Thank you team we will be back :).

I have been multiple times and staff have been very friendly, helpful and accomodating as I am gluten and lactose intolerant well as my girlfriend being gluten intolerant too. The chicken and chorizo paella is amazing, as well as the duo of pork.
