Ego At Stanney Oaks, Little Stanney in Cheshire West and Chester

I am writing to formally express my profound disappointment and dissatisfaction with the service my sister and I received at your Ego restaurant, Stanney Oaks, on May 27, 2025, at approximately 19:30. Upon arrival, we inquired about a table for dinner. The gentleman acting as front of house, whom I presume to be the manager, informed us that there was a "limited menu" available, which we confirmed was acceptable to us. However, when we subsequently approached a lady at the bar to order, she asked the manager and he contradicted himself, stating that the kitchen was, in fact, closed. Despite this confusion, we proceeded to order drinks and found a seat. While enjoying our beverages, a group of two ladies arrived and were given the same initial information about a "limited menu." Crucially, unlike us, they were then offered a menu to peruse. Perplexed by this discrepancy, I approached the bar for a second round of drinks and directly asked the manager if the kitchen was now open. He confirmed it was not. I then politely inquired how it was possible for the three ladies to be served if the kitchen was closed, regardless of a limited menu. At this point, the manager's demeanour became highly unprofessional. He responded in a raised voice, stating that "they are regulars and had booked a table." Even though when the ladies arrived, they asked if there was a table available? I then asked, "Do you treat new customers differently to your regulars?" He proceeded to shout across the room, from the Front of house where he was standing, over to the bar where I was standing, "IS THAT OK WITH YOU," despite my immediate verbal confirmation that it was "fine." He continued to shout "IS THAT OK" a total of three times, even after I had already acknowledged his explanation. Following this deeply uncomfortable exchange, as I returned to my table with our drinks, I clearly overheard the manager instructing his staff, "do not serve them again." This entire incident is utterly unacceptable. The contradictory information, the preferential treatment shown to other customers, the manager's aggressive and confrontational tone, and the subsequent instruction to refuse us further service demonstrate a severe lack of professionalism and customer care. Such behaviour is not only rude but also discriminatory and has left us feeling extremely unwelcome and disrespected.

Absolutely fantastic experience at Ego Mediterranean in Cheshire Oaks! The food was delicious and full of flavor, and the service was excellent. Special shoutout to Lisa, the General Manager—she was amazing, so welcoming and professional, and truly made our visit extra special. Highly recommend! Well definitely be back on the regular!!

We had a lovely meal today as usually Lucie was our waitress. The only thing that disappointed us was the Cocktails did not taste the same they tasted very chemically. Very disappointed as I usually have a few on our date days.

Three of us had lovely meals but very small portions, king prawn linguine, sea bass & cod lion. We had sorbet for dessert, small scoops for £7. Quality of food outstanding but fir us to return they would have to be bigger portions

Perfect drinks in the sunshine followed by a delicious meal inside. The service was fantastic from start to finish, I think the ladies name who served us was Kirsty - she’s a credit to you! We will be back soon!

This is always my son’s favourite place to go, he always chooses the hanging chicken kebab, which is always delicious. The waitress, I think her name is Kirsty is always so good him and she always jokes with my son about the popping candy! It’s the service she provides that makes us go back time after time. We went for my Wife's birthday with close friends. The food was good. Nicely cooked and presented. The service was terrible. Our waitress failed to cracked a smile or engage with us all night. Menus were dumped on the table, we had to distribute ourselves. We had to ask for side plates, even though we ordered sharing platters. The side plates were, again, dumped at the end of the table. Requests for a jug of water were met with incredulity despite spending over £60 on cocktails. After we ordered, we were told that some items were not available (happens) but no alternatives were suggested. My Wife was told she could only have the one cocktail because they had ran out of one ingredient. I paid over £20 in 'service' charge despite not having any (didn't want you make a fuss as it was my Wife's birthday). Even when we were leaving, none of the staff could be bothered to wish us goodnight. The place was empty so they had zero excuses for appalling service. Doubt we'll be back which is a pity as it's 10 minutes from home.

Went for tea, after work, it was a lively homely place, I had garlic mushrooms and rump of lamb, and carbonara which were delicious 😋 for pudding we had a creme bule and I had a almond and cherry frangiopan (bakewell rart) with pouring cream..all our food was very tasty and ample portions, and finished off with a port..the cask ale was black sheep.also very tasty. Highly recommend a visit if in the area..

Me and my partner went here after work, it's a little gem, the service, food, deserts and Ale were all extremely good.. Very reasonably priced, and good choice of meals. Great car park, and close to Cheshire oaks, and just off the M56. Very accessible.

Slow drinks service, slow to take food order, small portions for the price and they automatically add a service charge! I always tip for good service but we live in the UK not USA

Stunning experience, we had no booking but was accommodated. We had the chicken supreme and the carbonara, they were creamy and delicious 😋 the staff were very friendly and professional.

We have eaten here previously and had a good meal but following a very poor experience we will not be returning. The food, both in terms of quality and quantity, was very poor. Two portions of koftas for starter were over cooked and served with a very small dressing and accompanying sauce, that required a request for more sauce which was provided by the waiting staff. Main courses consisted of a rump steak and the vegan option of courgette and sweetcorn fritters. The steak was well cooked but accompanied by onion rings that were so overcooked they were inedible and the fries not much better. The fritters were the worst main course I have ever been served in a restaurant. They were tasteless with minimal sweetcorn and not a trace of courgette in any form. They appeared to be fried batter. The accompanying hummus was so small in portion size it was almost none existent. The waiting staff must have been aware because on checking if we were satisfied with the meal they enquired towards the end of the meal and could not retreat quick enough on making the enquiry. Staff were then far from attentive in enabling us to settle the bill and included service on the bill without stating this as being discretionary not indicating this would be added beforehand. All in all a very poor experience.

It's looks beautiful inside and outside. The staff are marvellous Service exceptional. I love the food/menu, it's my favourite 😍 Free parking whilst a customer. Free WiFi whilst a customer. Located in Cheshire Oaks. There are electric car chargers nearby, in Cheshire oaks car multi car park. Very relaxed atmosphere. Very safe as a lone female customer. Prices are reasonable.

Went to ego yesterday (Friday night) and the whole experience was fantastic. Was served by Lorraine and she was amazing. We were pleasantly surprised by the live singer Adam. They do cocktail offers till 6 but we booked for 630 so went for wine and 3 courses. The trio of deserts was next level 👌 there is loads of choice on the menu so something for everyone

Excellent environment, friendly service, great menu choices, and really decent food and at affordable prices. The Wednesday offer is such a great deal, 2 courses for 2 people for £30. 😍 I'm looking forward to our next visit.

Lorraine (our waitress) was very friendly and helpful throughout. The food all arrived together with no delays and no complaints, 4 clean plates. Will definitely be going back. Nice atmosphere and a great menu choice, covers all bases.

Our friends were celebrating 🥳 there wedding anniversary and wanted to share the day together, with a friendly atmosphere well cooked and tasty food we chose to take them to the ego 😁 we have eaten here on many occasions but our friends have not, we were not disappointed, lovely tasty food & drinks 🥂 and the staff are so welcoming above and beyond in every way, as a result our friends will eat their again. It was nice but I feel the tables are a little too close together. I spent the whole meal listening to the next tables conversation.

Food was delicious. We dropped in at lunchtime and were offered a table, the initial service was good but the food took ages to come and the desert even longer. We were overcharged at the till and had to challenge the member of staff. The bill was corrected.

As a group of 17, (no mean feat for chefs/servers) -the food was hot hot hot, and all the meals (pre ordered) were lovely. The ambience and cleanliness of the place was the best we've seen for a long time. We have no complaints. Will be our "go to" place.

Popped in on the off chance we could get a decent Vegan meal and Lucy upon entrance made us feel welcome, handed us a dedicated Vegan menu and sat us down in a wonderful, clean, comfortable setting. The food was gorgeous and Ben went out of his way to offer alternative sweets. Overall amazing experience and wonderful staff. Above and beyond what we expected. We WILL be back!

waited almost 2 hours for the food and it arrived cold. Was not worth the wait and the food was at most mid. do not recommend coming here unless you have lifetimes to waste.

We went to Ego for a family meal as we wanted a set menu to make things straightforward with there being quite a few of us. On arrival we were told to have a drink as our table wasn’t ready (people were still sat at it ) We had a drink and were then seated - only at this point was it mentioned there were numerous elements missing from the set menu which left hardly any choice at all for mains. No offer was made of any substitutions and it was only when we asked they did agree to using a rump steak to make up a roast dinner. Most of us asked for medium rare but two came completely cooked through (one was sent back ) and the veg was luke warm at best. The roast potatoes were still white and hadn’t been roasted properly. Our daughter had a pizza and it was very anaemic looking and definitely needed a few minutes more cooking. This was our first visit here and I don’t think we would return as the food standards are poor. We did also notice that we at no point were asked if any of our party had ‘allergies ‘. I appreciate the restaurant had experienced a busy day but that shouldn’t be at the cost of customers eating later on. Standards should be kept the same.

We eat at Ego around once every couple of weeks or so and have done for some time. Lunch or dinner the food and service are always excellent. There's usually an offer available so worth signing up for emails. I don't think it is necessary to single out any member of staff as they are all great, always friendly and extremely helpful! First visit but definitely won't be the last, service and food was spot on and I really can't fault anything. Food was hot and tasty and arrived in good time, drinks were kept topped up and the wife's coctail was lovely. Special mention to Lorraine who served us, she was warm and friendly and very helpful throughout our visit. Bar man was friendly and knowledgeable but unfortunately I forgot to get his name. Definitely coming back for the paella 🥘 It was so tasty and the gambi pil pil to start was amazing 👏

Lorraine was a brilliant server. However the service is a 3 because it was slow to come out and then was not warm. We waited over an hour for main course from ordering. Then a service charge was added for 2 of us despite long waits.

despite being very busy, service was excellent. Spaghetti carbonara was exactly how I wanted it to be but very disappointed in the Eton Mess. Too much cream and NO meringue at all. there is only so much cream you can eat before it becomes sickly so sadly I didnt eat it.

I love this place! Visited first at lunchtime, staff were very friendly, service excellent, so decided to dine here in the evening a few weeks later!! Different staff, but all still super Friendly and service quick. Menu is varied and has good vegan options 😋 Plenty of parking , disabled parking close to entrance, and accessibility was very good.

This place has come a long way since the harvester, I had forgotten what good food is , one of the tastiest meals I have had in a long time , the pork duo is lovely, a really well cooked dish and presented nicely, reasonable as well with the Wednesday discount , definitely worth a visit , and the service is really friendly as well big thumbs up from me.

Food was great, Was charged for table water 80p but wasn't told about charge as thought it would be free, an other charges such as service charge until we looked at the bill ,which should be our choice, I was happy with everything other than the stealth add ons

Starter and main Food swimming in oil. Completely inedible. Steak was tiny (about the size of a chicken gudgeon) heavily burnt and waaayy past well done when asked for medium, my friend had to try save it with ketchup as peppercorn sauce was overpowering and strange tasting. Cancelled deserts as didnt want to even see what we would have ended up with.

What a fantastic find while staying at the caravan and motorhome site across the road Great food for a fantastic price and even better staff. Will be back tomorrow night

Lisa is fastidious as it gets. A very affable and friendly Manageress. I seem to remember on my previous visit that Lisa was instrumental in saving a lady's life who was far more seriously ill than at first thought. Top marks!

first time trying here and it was amazing! my mother has recently become celiac and they had a huge gluten free selection on a seperate menu so she was spoilt for choice! the food was quick, piping hot and very tasty- and very well presented! loved all 3 courses we had. plus all the staff were lovely, friendly, informative and attentive! special mention to Lucie + Lisa who served us throughout + ended with Mia who were all great, thankyou! will defo be back soon- maybe try the lunch menu next time

Celebrated my retirement with work.today From the booking to preordering to service on the day was exceptional. . Big shout out to Lucy who made sure the evening went smoothly. She was so attentive. Would definitely recommend.

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal (the lamb rump was excellent) and the staff were polite and friendly. There wasn't anything on the menu my nephew wanted to eat so the chef made a custom meal, very impressed!

We had a meal there saturday the food and service was excellent. My hubbys steak was the best he,d ever had better than Miller and Carter. Chef Pete is brilliant, highly recommend this resturant

It was a very busy evening so service was slow. But The food was tasty on the celebration menu. We probably would have gone for the normal menu as things were out of stock. But we got a glass of prosecco, which was nice. I'd come back if I was in the area but maybe a slightly quieter day.

The food was lovely, although I think this restaurant might be understaffed. We went for lunch and we were there for 2 hours which was longer than expected. Other tables seemed to have similar issues.

As usual had a great meal today at Ego, served by the lovely Loraine who is always cheery and helpful. Great atmosphere and value for money what’s not to like.

Friends get together .Confusing menu.Why put appetisers on a deal menu when they’re not included in the deal .Totally bizarre. Chicken Milanese unavailable-again 🤷‍♀️.Obviously a popular dish so either order or prepare more.2 diners had to order alternative dishes .Bill arrived , including £22 service charge. Showed the hostess the 25% off voucher code and the bill was adjusted by just £8 . We understand that the 25% off was just on mains but there was 5 of us. All ordered a main courses- plus starters ,drinks and desserts .I wanted to question the bill but as our friend was paying for everything as a treat ,she didn’t want to make a fuss .Food was very nice. There did seem to be a lot of diners questioning their bill too .

I feel guilty giving the service 2 stars because the people delivering it were lovely. Food was OK and it was quite nice place but dear god the waiting for food, and drinks was interminable. There are many other places out there.

Another fantastic meal all staff amazing, Service is 100% served by Lorraine this week but all staff are a credit to the company.

Just stopped off by chance for lunch, There was a two course deal on , so we gave it a whirl the wife had Pate starter and Fish Cakes for main , I had Garlic mushrooms and Sirloin Steak for main, and Surprisingly I was Very Impressed, Thank you 👍👍👍

I feel sad writing this review I’ve been here a few times now my son’s 16th birthday! wow the wait and service was not the best…so went last night it was my birthday so used the voucher starter was lovely ..main dripped in sauce wait was long again. Asked for the dessert menu she forgot to bring it waitress seemed fed up that’s how she looked it’s good to have a break in between courses but after our last visit I made sure I had a snack just in case I was starving hungry ! I don’t know what’s happened but just doesn’t seem the same ..would I go again. Probably if I had a voucher, would I recommend the answer ? I’m not sure I would !

Very disappointing, found a piece of elastic string attached to the beef. When pointed it out to the waitress, she went to tell the chef who just apologised and said it was off the fillet of beef. Carrots were raw hard to cut. Only had beef no other roast available, no parsnips. Would not recommend for Sunday lunch.

Having booked in advance for family meal, once seated was advised the lack of food availability, then told lunch menu not available, also the Thursday kebab offer. Also couldn't use the January offer. The whole experience took 2.5hrs for 1 course meal and extremely expensive. A carton of kids apple juice is £3.65. Whilst I appreciate issues with supply the restaurant should of contacted us prior to advise and certainly should of pre informed that offers not available. Perhaps due to lack of choice etc. would of expected the offers at the very least. Poor customer service

Benji was an excellent host. The restaurant itself was really well presented and the food was delicious. If I had to make any complaint it would be about the Moroccan Lamb. There were two of us who ordered and there were only 3 very small bits of lamb in each. It tasted amazing but should have been called Moroccan Aubergine instead. Overall, very good

Been here 3 times as a couple, the first was amazing! October 2024, great service, great portion sizes and great quality food! Decided this was our new fave restaurant in Ellesmere Port! 2nd time (Dec 2024) service wasn't great at all, our starter and wine were given to a table next to ours, we thought it was odd as we were sat and served before they were, the waitress didnt notice and we sat for a good half hour waiting until we decided to ask and they realised - then they brought our starters and forgot our wine so we got up and asked again, finally brought the wine and main meals and told us our fries would be on the way but we had to ask again as it seems they forgot us again. Jan 2025, our 3rd visit and the food has taken a huge hit. Halloumi kebab (had this the 1st and 2nd time - spot on) was underdone, looked as though it had been microwaved, my partner had the duo of pork (had 1st visit) and the portion size was tiny compared to previous visit. Pork was dry, gone in a few bites and the potato side was so thin. Holding on to our first amazing visit when there wasnt a bad thing to say, a real shame for a restaurant with great potential - just something for management to look in to as it really is a nice restaurant!

Went to ego for the first time very impressed the staff were totally on the ball and very polite. The food was nothing short of excellent I had the fillet steak and my girlfriend had the Moroccan lamb both were top notch best pub lunch I have had for a long time have booked for this Sunday can't wait lorraine was fantastic

I had such a lovely time when I visited Ego. Lisa was so friendly from the moment myself and my family walked in. She greeted us at the door with a lovely smile and made us feel so welcome. All the staff were lovely, but I massive shout out to Lisa who would be walking around the restaurant, serving drinks, greeting customers, taking food to tables, taking orders. She didn’t stop whilst we were there. She really is an asset to Ego!!!! When we left we wanted to thank her and we got chatting to her at the door, she was honestly so so so lovely and you could tell all her staff respected and liked her. They are all like one big happy family and that really does shine out to the customers. I will 100% be coming back regularly due to the food of course but mainly the staff, I haven’t been to a restaurant in a long long time and had staff, especially Lisa make you have such a wonderful experience like this! What an absolute credit to Ego she is!

The night we went was a very busy evening Christmas 🎄 parties 🥳 on the go.we was a party of six but over all good the staff where very nice and very busy

Food was reasonable but not exceptional as some of the dishes were only just warm. Service was slow with some staff being far more attentive than others who appeared as if they didn’t want to be there. When the bill was presented it was incorrect with a 10% service charge already included which we declined to pay. Overall a very average dining experience that we won’t be in a rush to do again.

No words really. Sat waiting for nearly an hour when quiet. Ended up walking out, several tables around also complaining for poor food. Service was also terrible. No apologises. Avoid at all costs!

Went here with my family on Christmas Eve expecting a decant meal food was barely edible and no one enjoyed any of it service was really slow drinks took around 25 minutes to arrive staff were okay but didn’t really want to be there Wich was obviouse to see and since I’ve got home I’ve been stuck on the toilet as the food has made me really ill

Good food, friendly staff who took care of our very chaotic large table (10 adults and 4 kids) All the food came out around the same time, was hot without any issues! Would book and eat here again.

Visited with my parents to celebrate a special occasion. The whole experience was terrible we ordered our food and waited an hour before I went to ask the waitress where our food was. I was advised that the chef had burnt one of the steaks and the other dishes were ready I asked why they didn’t bring everyone else’s dishes over and apologise for the burnt steak. 15 mins later the rest of our tables food arrived unfortunately one of the other steaks was burnt so had to be sent back. Eventually two new steaks arrived and were ok but the enjoyment of us all going out to eat together had gone. Even though we were given a discount on the bill we wouldn’t ever visit again.

Service was good. Food was OK. It was definitely better last time I visited. Drinks cost more than they were advertised on the menu.
