We love this place. My daughters want to go to Edo all the time, especially to celebrate special occasions. The sushi is fantastic. Taste, presentation, imagination are delicious; the service is very kind and patient; and it's healthy. I think the owners can be very proud of this place. It would be good to see them open up the restaurant to the front with a stall to serve their Japanese delights as a tapas-style, instagram-able take away to capitalise on the footfall heading for the park, pub gardens (line that stomach!), transport links, school commute, etc. I wish Edo the best success and we will be back soon :)

I usually love this place, it's reasonably priced and the staff are super friendly, plus the sushi is great. I was a little disappointed with my most recent visit as the ramen which I usually order had changed for the worse - the ramen noodles were the instant kind you buy in a packet and the katsu chicken seemed like one of the frozen breaded chicken breasts you can buy. Would have also been good to have some 'toppings' or veg like bok choi etc as it was quite plain. Not sure why it's changed, maybe change of ingredients to cut costs, but hopefully next time it'll be back up to full standards.

This Japanese restaurant is located in South London. The first time I came here with a friend, we were presented with a tray of salmon and tempura teriyaki along with rice, salad and a miso soup. The staff is dressed in traditional Japanese clothing. The tables are decorated traditionally Japanese as well.

Can’t speak highly enough of this place - went on a date last night. We got chicken udon, tuna sashimi, spicy edamame (amazing), duck in garlic sauce and prawn tempura. The food was sooo good, best Japanese I’ve had in a long time! The service was really friendly, with one of the waiters attempting to teach my useless self to use chopsticks haha Can’t wait to go back, absolutely loved this place - thanks for a great evening!

Salmon sashimi had an unpleasantly mushy texture - clearly far from fresh, sashimi-grade fish. Meanwhile, the so-called char siu/chashu pork served on top of the miso ramen was in fact (incredibly chewy) boiled ham - complained about this to be told simply that ‘that’s how we make it here’. Thankfully they did at least take the soup off the bill.

We were staying in Crystal Palace for 4 nights. On the first night we did the usual thing of wondering around to find somewhere to eat, one of my girlfriends son's is into Japanese food and when he saw this place he asked if we could give it a go ..... and we did ! It was quite early when we arrived so not ever so busy. We were sat at one of the tables that is sunk into the ground which gives the impression your kneeling but without the pain ! What a fab idea. The waiter was very attentive and looked after us really well. Having chosen our foods, I went for the Yaki Tori for a starter and a chicken Katsu curry, they were served quickly and I loved the way they were presented. The dishes were nice and hot and really tasty, we all swapped a few bits of food around and have to say everything I tasted was fantastic. I'd have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant or going back myself, so if you're in the area go give it a visit.

This is an unpretentious (non-authentic) well priced restaurant in Crystal Palace. The food is fresh. The fish tasty and the service slow. We eat here often with family and friends. This isn't' Mayfair nor St. James' so you won't get the real Japanese experience nor extortionate prices some of these places charge. Don't expect authentic original Japanese food, I think the staff are possibly Thai (a guess) but my cat has more in common with Japan than the staff and owners. Don't come here straight off a plane from some Japanese fish tasting experience or you'll think it's rubbish. So why do I like it so much? Sashimi and nigiri always fresh. Tempura cooked brilliantly. Soups good. Reasonable prices, good beer. Service slow, but they do lot's of takeaways. Staff friendly enough, some are a bit lacking in customer care but they try. I will keep returning as a) I can't afford most of the Capital's Japanese restaurants b) I hate the pretentiousness of said restaurants c) we live locally and d) have been coming here for years and have never felt ill.

Ask anyone what they remember about Edo and they will say the seating. As a token gesture to lardy brits, the owners have engineered the place to have the knee wrecking visuals of a traditional Japanese restaurant but without the pain of actualluy sitting on the floor. Except this isn't in Kyoto, its in the up and coming/ vibrant/ exciting/lively/grimy/ violent/ South London suburbette of Crystal Palace. (Select whatever estate agent term suits your experience best). This place is actually OK. Its not * A famous Japanese restaurant in Mayfair*, and that's a plus point, I have not seen any any Chelsea footballers here with their lively/sparkly/bubbly/vibrant WAG girlfriends. Just locals nomming a wide range of half decent Japanese styled food and beer. There is nothing massively exotic about this restaurant or its location, the menu is friendly, reassuring and well priced for a family blow out. The usual suspects rear their head on most orders we could see - Bento, Ramen, Sushi and Tempura- and its not too bad all things considered. The Sushi was passable and rice moist to the touch, the bento large enough to force the children to leave half their meals and require a lie down on the floor. The Tempura freshly cooked and crisp, the pickles in the bento sour enough to make an impression.Drinks are again nothing surprising, but even that is a good benchmark - there is nothing that can beat half decent sushi and a bottle of Sapphoro or Ashai.Lets be honest, if you have managed to get the car parked on the 30% gradient hills around Crystal Palace Village as it is now called, then you will not got far wrong heading to Edo for an evening meal. Far, far better than the pizza and pasta fare that the rest of the parade seem to proffer each night. No, its not truly authentic and you will not see Geisha girls or white shirted, red faced leathered salarymen performing karaoke with their bosses, but not everyone wants that degree of authenticity- sometimes a half decent Japanese meal in a convenient location as a not outrageous prices is all you are after. You can take your spouse to * A famous Japanese restaurant in Mayfair* for your 25th anniversary if you wish, but trust me, if you live South of the river, you will probably pop into Edo for your next excursion into the world of Japanese food and enjoy it just as much as you drunkenly selfie the night away and post it up on face book . OMG LOL ROFL

The title of my review says it all really - this restaurant is not all that. It's Ok for a quick bite to eat with friends but not for more. Food was OK but nothing to write home about. Sashimi was inelegant - huge slabs of fish on shredded radish - some made me gag as tough, all dishes came with salad of chunks of iceberg lettuce - not much variation or elegance to them, and other food was unmemorable and a touch bland. Dipping sauce was plain soy sauce. All rather mediocre I'm afraid, which is a shame as the staff seemed nice.

We were in Japan a few weeks ago, and were hankering after a good Japanese meal in London, so we decided to give Edo a try. And sadly, it didn't come up to scratch. Well, the seafood platter wasn't bad, the scallops and prawns and whiting and salmon were OK, and the veg and the broth they came with were quite nice, as was the miso soup, but the beef and egg donburi was pretty awful, tasteless and under-seasoned and limp and served with absolutely the wrong sort of rice. In Japan, they serve that lovely sticky tasty rice with a lot of dishes, the sort of rice that's easy to pick up with chopsticks. Not at Edo, they were using a long grain rice that was impossible to eat without using a spoon. The soy sauce on the table was awful too, really cheap and nasty, and the service was glacially slow; they seemed to think it was more important to get takeaways out than serve their sit in customers, it took half an hour from ordering to being served. Sadly, I think we're either going to have to go posh in the centre of town to get good Japanese food, or learn to cook it ourselves at home...

We were on the hunt for local sushi and this was the only place we found. It felt a bit of an unknown entity, especially as we arrived and it was empty. But, as soon as the food came we knew we were onto a winner. Great sushi plain and simple, and a delicious bento box with duck. My boyfriend got something slightly different to what he was expecting, so it's worth asking for info about any dishes you're new to. Overall though it was very well cooked and you could tell it was all natural and healthy. The staff were delightful and welcoming. What's more, the restaurant gradually filled up throughout the evening with many seemingly happy customers enjoying their food.

Restaurant was recently refurbished and looks quite nice now, which prompted a visit. Unfortunately not a good one.Service is beyond slow as priority is given to the take away orders and customers in the restaurant are clearly not as important. 50 minutes to receive 2 bentos is unacceptable.Waiters are so busy preparing the take aways that trying to get their attention to ask for something is beyond challenging (another drink, where your food is, the bill..good luck!) Food was edible but I agree that the oil used to deep fry should be changed as the tempura is possibly the heaviest we ever had.To top it off they were trying to overcharge us (2 beers £14 instead of £7) which really was the ultimate insult. Will not go back.

Orderd a takeaway from just eat. Ordered salmon teriyaki bento boxChicken Katsu curryFood came within the hour specified. Bag was swimming with sauce. Food was low quality the chicken looked like it came from a freezer and the oil hadn't been changed in the fryer. There was still skin underneath and generally looked of a low quality. The curry sauce that came with it was more like a soup. The salmon looked as though it was a low value cut from asda. The teriyaki sauce well what wasn't lining the bottom of the bag was runny. The miso sup had split and looked disgusting. As you can tell I wasn't happy with the standard of food. After an arguement with a member of staff on the phone they finally decided to give a refund but would not send their delivery driver to come and get it. He had to be compensated for his journey and we would have to pay. We continued to dispute this but finally decided to go nd drop the food back. However the octopus balls encased in light, fluffy mashed potato were the star. Mains were chicken ramen soup and pork udon soup. When the delivery guy turned up and i asked why it was so late, he said he'd been stopped by the police!! Called another forty minutes later to see if the driver was perhaps lost and to request a small goodwill gesture to compensate for the long wait. I was met with rudeness to an extent that I was extremely upset, followed by swearing and then they hung up on me. When the food eventually arrived the bentos were cold, the portion of meat and tofu much smaller than previous orders. The salads were not present at all and the edamame were so old I had to throw them away. I have never received such bad service and will never use them again. A rare night in together ruined from their bad attitude and rubbish service.

I walked past this restaurant recently and having read the rave reviews took my family there for a meal. A choice of Western or Japanese style tables is offered. The Western ones where we sat are near the door which opens straight onto the street. As it was a bitterly cold night and delivery meals were frequently being taken out we were subjected to a less than comfortable dining experience as we sat in a freezing cold draught for most of the evening. The bags for delivery were piled up on an adjacent table and I just felt out of place as an eat in diner. I would describe this place as more of a top end Japanese cafe. That said the food was great and is good value for money. We has a mixed Sashimi dish, 2 bento box meals, Chirashi Don, a mixed seafood fry miso soups, beer, saki and cokes and the bill was less than £90. You can eat well here for about £20 a head which certainly beats top Japanese restaurants hands down. The service was acceptable and the lavatories fairly clean, just don't expect to be waited on hand and foot by kimomo clad beauties!

Teriyaki cod is very tasty & the noodles are always good, shame the black cod was taken off the menu but there's so many other dishes, it doesn't really matter. Love the boats that they serve the sushi selections on too. Could do with getting some decent wines as they're not great, but won't stop me going back again & again :-)

Nice welcome, fresh fish, fun seating arrangements. Alternatives if you don't like sushi. We had a large family gathering here and found it a very jolly place to be.

I love sushi but thought that good sushi was only availible in central London where I work, however one day I came across Edo on the internet and decided to give it a try as it is only a 20 minute drive from home. I absolutely love it, from the sunken tables to the wonderful service. The sushi is fabulous - lots of choice and good servings sizes with reasonable prices. Over the past year or so i have been many times and also used their take-away service. I would definitely recommend Edo and have taken friends there many times. I am so happy to have Edo in the local area and hope it remains there for many years.

I wish I had eaten at Edo sooner now I have discovered it. I picked up a menu a year ago for takeaway after discovering I liked wagamama/yo sushi types of eateries. One evening I decided to go for a takeaway and Wow! It was so delicious, so I decided to take my partner to the resturant and were highly impressed by the relaxed atmoshphere, the attentive staff and most of all the most delicious and fresh prepared food. You must have the tempura and the goyoza. Amazing. We are both vegetarian but love this genre of food, and the tofu curry was so delicious. I'm so glad I've tried it. We've been going over to wagamamma all the way over to canary wharf or in town, but now we've found this we'll hopefully be going again. You can park in crystal palace easier after 7 in many places, and is not too hard to park on a week night.

The food is good, the sushi very fresh, and the service was friendly. It took quite a while to get our food though as they seem to have a thriving delivery/takeaway service, and the ambiance is sadly lacking. It wouldn't take much to improve the esthetics: a paint job, a few decorations, and get rid of all the delivery bags in the restaurant area. Also, I wouldn't want to sit at a sunken table, who wants their food to be at the same level as people's shoes?

We eat here frequently - either in the restaurant or take-out. The fish is always very fresh and the tempura is delish. The staff are very willing to help, and Edo is very good value for money.

Bento boxes, sushi and all manner of Japanese food can be found here. Quality wasn't great but well presented and plentiful. Sunken seats are a nice touch until you try and get out (especially after a sake or too). Lighting quite bright and think they're really targeting the delivery or post/ pub market.

This is a gem of a Japanese restaurant. We have gone there many times and taken friends experienced in Japanese food. We've nearly always had a good experience and so have our friends. The menu isn't very big but they do most things on it extremely well. Miso soup can be ordinary but this is the best I've tasted. The temperu is just the right texture. Japanese food can be very expensive because of the cost of the fresh ingredients, but due to the location outside central London the price is very good. We've taken our baby there. They are always very friendly and welcoming, but unfortunately do not have a high chair.Parking is difficult in the Crystal Palace triangle so it's probably worth taking public transport. There's so much restaurant competition in Crysatal Palce that restaurants are rarely full so we've never needed a reservation despite the quality of Edo. I'm sure it would be packed in a more central location. If you like Japanese food and live in south east London you must try this out! However, if you're looking for a lively atmosphere this isn't for you.

Fresh is what you need to make good jap food and that's what they have here. Although the owner is not japanese but they still deliver a good value meal in london.

this is a clean if spartan japanese where you sit on a raised floor with your legs beneath the table. the tempura and sushi/sashimi are nearly always superb, my partner and i have been coming here for a couple of years - there are not too many japanese restraunts in south east london - and we keep coming back. we have tried many of the restraunts at the top of the ta list and find edo hard to beat for value, and the tempura rarely bettered at all which, along with the dragon roll, we order every visit. what does surprise me is how quiet it often is although they always seem to be doing a brisk delivery service.

We have been living south London for a while but we were struggling to find the good local Vietnamese restaurant until NOW! I ordered Beef pho, delicious! My son had a crispy pork and rice, delicious! and My husband had a Bun cha, DELICIOUS! (also deep fried squid for starter, fantastic) We were so glad finally found a good restaurant not too far from us. We will be coming back definitely soon. Thank you so much.

Me and my friend showed up for a cooking class booked online and were advised that the class no longer ran on Sunday. We had not received any email text or other communication regarding this change beforehand. The manager’s on site were very apologetic and took immediate action to rectify the mistake through complementary drinks and bites. Imaan was an amazing hostess as well as another lady in red who was attentive to us for our time. Although it was a disappointing experience the team turned it around. I hope to visit again for dinner another time and even rebook the dimsum making class, the dimsum we did try was flavourful and presented beautifully. The accountability and customer service was incredible. Thank you to the team again.
