I recently dined at Maharani in Clapham and had a positive experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the service was attentive and friendly. The food was well-prepared, the prices were reasonable. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant.

Our meal at Maharani was truly incredible. Possibly one of the best curry’s I have had. The updated interior of the restaurant has been done very tastefully, maintaining an authentic feel. Our waiters have both been very friendly and happy to help. I couldn’t recommend this place enough. Thank you!!

My recent visit to Maharani, an upscale local restaurant, was quite underwhelming. Despite the appealing ambiance, the overall experience fell short of expectations. The food, though nicely presented, was ordinary in taste. Additionally, the portions were surprisingly small, especially given the extremely high prices. We ordered four dishes, and our bill amounted to a staggering £106. To make matters worse, the staff added a service charge of £11 without any prior notice, making it feel imposed and unwarranted. The disappointing food quality, meager servings, and hefty prices likely explain the sparse crowd in such a large venue. While the ambiance was the only redeeming aspect of the visit, substantial improvements are needed in other areas.

The dishes were delicious! This is my second visit, and I’ll definitely be back again. This time, I tried the chicken sholay. It was tasty but quite spicy. Next time, I’ll opt for something milder.

We live locally to Maharani and have eaten here several times. As a rule we like to try new places but the food here is that good that whenever we feel like Indian it is the only one we want to go to. Lovely service as well.

My husband and I travel a lot around the world. Last month we visited London for 4 days. We visited Maharani. We loved it. I like strong flavors and I found that here. I was able to taste amazing new flavors in Maharani. We really enjoyed it and went back to our hotel happy to have chosen Maharani. Flavorwise, it’s the best Indian restaurant I have dined in.

The new interior layout is very modern and cool. The service is on point, polite and attentive. The food took a little time to arrive but it was all cooked fresh and worth the wait. 6 people with drinks just shy of £100 great value. A steadfast character of Clapham High Street. Thank you

In my view, this is actually a Bangladeshi restaurant that also serves Indian-style food. Staff were really friendly, most of the food was delicious. The starter, king prawn butterfly was a real miss for me. It does cater well for vegetarians and it serves alcohol-free beer, which is a great bonus. It’s a personal taste, but we both definitely preferred the old Indian “curry house” red decor and atmosphere before the renovations and the size reduction. Nevertheless we had a great evening, we enjoyed the food, and we will be back.

I've been visiting this restaurant for more than ten years and have consistently enjoyed delicious meals, which leaves me utterly perplexed by some of the negative reviews. Myself and a group of our friends have participated in a "curry club" for many years, dining across the country, yet we frequently return here as one of our favourites. I highly recommend the Lamb Pathia. In my humble opinion, like any Indian restaurant, it's better to dine in than take away.

We wanted to love it. The servers were very nice. The prawns were in a gloppy sauce and were maybe minced? Not identifiable as prawns. The naan was ok. Biryani was good. The rice was great. The saag aloo was greasy. And at 630, we were the only people there. A sad experience. Sweet atmosphere—they really need a new chef.

A fantastic gem of a place. Exceptional cuisine which brought back my childhood memories. Every item was amazing, the lightest fluffiest naans, bite sized onion bhajis, juicy tandoori chicken, tangy king prawn dansak, and warming lamb methi washed down with perfectly balanced mango lassis. The staff were friendly and looked after our every need. Can’t wait to try more menu items. Will definitely be back again and again.

My family and I have been eating at Maharani’s since 1990. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. We love the chicken tikka masala, prawn curry and cauliflower bhaji. We’ve since moved back to Canada but everytime we are in London, we always make a special visit to Maharani. The quality of the food is consistently good and we are never disappointed.

What a very trendy warm atmosphere restaurant. Cody furnished and practical layout, nice music. A very nice restaurant to enjoy a dinner. The papadom was great we start and we chose for the Maharani platter, fresh delicious snacks. Our main course was the Delhi chi curry, Goan king prawn curry, Aloo Gobi and the dhaal maharani. We chose completely different dishes than standard. But such a delicious, authentic Indian meal with a nice twist. It was worth eating 2 km further. Too bad we couldn't have more desserts! But we would love to come back. In short, don't miss this address.

A bit unplanned we chose this restaurant to eat on a Saturday evening, it was very good, poppadom we’re served with a very sweet mango, my butter chicken curry was delicious, I had it with a garlic, chilli cheese nann, it was good together. My partner said the onion Bahaji had a food gram flour dough to them! He had a chicken madras which he said had a good tomato flavour. Service was good, restaurant seemed clean and price was reasonable.

We reunited with our family members in Maharani. The food was delicious and of excellent quality. Lamb Tarkatan and lamb Biriyani were exceptional. The two waiters, Mujib and Rasel, provided outstanding service. They treated us with the feeling that they were our family. We plan to come again.

This is a really great indian food restaurant, I have been coming on & off since the 1990s. I have been eating 'Indian' vegetarian (mainly Bangladeshi) food since I was a child in the 1970s; I am very fussy about food quality and taste and this is one of my 4 favourite in London. The service is very good too and the owner or his son is often there when I go and is very friendly too. Sometimes the food takes a while to come but I always find its well worth the wait! A friend I sometimes come with likes this place a lot too.

I always come to this lovely restaurant in Clapham. They remember me and we have a good laugh. The food is delicious and since they changed the layout it’s very cosy. The dishes are amazing and I recommend the prawn puri!

Really lovely and friendly staff (Rasel especially)- my food was also on the table within 15 minutes of ordering and it was still steaming on my table it was so hot when they brought it. The food was AMAZING- the spices and herbs made the food so delicious!! Everything was perfect!! Definitely would recommend for a good Indian eat in or takeout!!

Nice curries, quite expensive for what you get but decent. Service couldn't complain, staff were attentive and fast. The beer was flat and smelt very sulphuric, we did mention but staff didn't really care, such a shame as this made a big difference to our experience

I wish I had of read the reviews before I ate in this ‘restaurant’. The food was so bad. The chicken was so tough it was not possible to cut with my knife- the chicken in a masala is supposed to be tender . I was asked if the food was ok , I complimented that the rice (which was really good) but demonstrated that the chicken was very tough. To my surprise the waiter said it was supposed to be tough! This is not true : It is supposed to be tender. The owner said ‘every one likes our food’. The recent reviews show they certainly do not like this food. Many people have complained about the poor standard of food Not the customer service anyone would expect. I paid my bill … lesson learned… but I would avoid which is a shame as this was once a really amazing restaurant .

The highlight was leaving. Have eaten here before a couple of times (& before the recent remodeling). Food was OK. The chicken pieces in my dish very dry, which is pretty hard to achieve in a curry, if you've cooked it traditionally. To the manager. Please tone down your up-selling from 10/10 to 1/10. We saw the funny side....as it was very much a "mosquitos at dawn" selling technique; and a little like being in a situational comedy (Fawty Towers comes to mind). The icing on the cake - and truly memorable - was the bright yellow highlighter on the Bill. Don't recall seeing that ever before on any restaurant bill. Too funny. Oh BTW....Thursday is a "discount night", so perhaps that explains the anxious upselling? My suggestion....ditch it, and go back to being service oriented.

Maharani gave me diarrhoea, possibly with malicious intent. The guy on the phone refused to acknowledge the discount on his own website, so I hung up and ordered (again) on the Web (since it failed the first time due to poor design). When I called (yet again) to confirm my order, I heard someone angrily grumbling about a "mistake" in the background. Whether vindictively or otherwise, the food was either spiked or of such poor quality that it gave me the craps throughout the night. The only redeeming quality about this place is they finally tore down all the obsolete awards they had tastelessly plastered all over the windows for over a decade in an attempt live off the plaudits indefinitely. Due to this, I gave it this second chance, but it still fails to live up to its décor, let alone its (fabricated) reputation.

I don’t recomand this restaurant to anyone. The chicken was old also heated up in microwave. The waiter tuched my bread whit his hand in front of my eyes. For this money you can eat a good food in a dicent restaurant. Also there is so cold inside that you have to stay with your jacket on.

If you want a traditional Indian meal out in Clapham with no twists or gimmicks, choose Maharani. Impeccable service and reasonable prices. Recent menu updates have resulted in improved variety of dishes

Best curry house in the uk! I’m local, and try and go once a week! I also go with my football team, the staff are great, and gave us all free shots of Baileys at the end! The food is sublime and the beer is great! Couldn’t recommend enough! Maharani rules

Wow! New look, revamped, restaurant has been refurbished, loos fabulous food was delicious, great service as always from the staff, I really enjoyed some new dishes and flavors. This restaurant is totally fraud for me because as a Indian I know the Indian food exactly I just been there n order chicken chaat and a kebab as a starter first of all they took 25 minutes to have it and when they serve the petition was too small as compare to their prices the kebab was just like thin paper rolls n chicken chaat was a fully covered with salad Just spoons of chaat In between I ordered main Saag paneer Cucumber raita So they took nearly 25 minutes to make it ready I ignored it Then they served main as I watched saag paneer believe me it was look like they just chopped two leafs of mustard in full bowl of mozzarella and cucumber raita was they just put three four small pieces of cucumbers in small portion of sweet yogurt so I want to tell those people how to make cucumber raita exactly Totally awkward and shameful First we need plain yogurt not sweet because raita is never sweet Need a cucumber grate it Mix in yogurt Putt two specific spices Garam masala And salt or any other spice you like to add in In conclusion They are looting your money Guys believe me They charge you lot n serve you like nothing and Nothing I had there was Indian

Food totally average. Pappadam served in a very poor way. Main courses : one looked like has been injected with a 50p tomato sauce. The worse bit the wine. A bottle of muscadet for 24.50 which was bought in Sainsbury’s - even with the “finest Sainsbury’s etiquette on”. Very, very disappointing considering we came to this restaurant so many times in the past and it became a less than average place. If you really want a good Indian just make the effort, 1 mile south and you’re in Tooting Bec here you can find the finest Indian restaurants in London.

Like stepping back into 1970. Small space with many tables. Think Only Fools and horses lol. Staff are extraordinarily the grumpiest I’ve ever been served by in a restaurant but THE FOOD WAS GOOD! The chicken tikka was over done and rather dry but the dishes were very well flavoured and reasonably priced. We went on a Tuesday night so it wasn’t busy. Bill was £100 for 5.

We have had many great meals here, with family over the years, when in Clapham. This is a really good 'old fashioned' Indian restaurant. I would recommend the Bengali fish curries and vegetable dishes. The Maharani was established 1958, making it one of the oldest surviving curry houses in London, I believe. Well worth a visit!

Really tasty food and a well-maintained restaurant with quick service; however, the staff whilst efficient, weren't particularly chatty or offering/checking on us during the meal.

That must be the worst dinner I've probably ever had! They should be ashamed to call that an Indian restaurant. Tasteless utter crap! Mix grill was dryer than the Sahara desert! Every dish was flavourless. How on earth they are still in business? Avoid all cost!!!

This is a great restaurant and I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a great indian meal. I come here for special occasions and it is amazing! The staff are VERY friendly and even have a conversation with us (we know them). The food is absolutely delicious and is not too fancy, it just gets to the point and you can get a brilliant curry/korma. Also the price is worth what you are getting, If I could give this more than 5 stars I could!

Super netter und bemühter Service - leckeres Essen!

Food was fine but cold by time it got to me unfortunately. Delivery driver refused follow simple instructions on how to open a door after I’d buzzed him in - I had to go all the way down to find him and I tried to explain how the door worked and he just walked away. Poor delivery service and I must have been his last stop as curry was lukewarm and naan was stone cold. Ok but disappointing - likely won’t order from here again.

Good value and great tasting food. This place isn’t fancy or pretentious, it’s just really good curry and the staff are super friendly and I’ve personally never had a bad meal here which is why we keep coming back. For 2 people sharing a curry and side dish with the naan and rice plus a drink each it’s around £30 which in this day and age is very good value for money. If you’re looking for a good classically English curry house this place should tick all your boxes.

I came here yesterday with my friend and had a horrible experience. Me and my friend was set on coming to the restaurant for a few starters and drinks. When the waiter came and asked us what we’d like i proceed to give him two starters and drinks. We also wanted to order one mango chutney to that he said we have to get all three however on the menu there were advertised separately so we’re basically forced to order all three even though we just wanted one. he then asked what else we wanted, to that I responded nothing for now. He was outraged that I even said such a thing and basically said that we have to order something else. He told us that it was our responsibility to let them know we only wanted starters and drinks. There was not sign or policy stating you have order a certain amount. He saw two young girls and thought he could pressure us in to ordering more. I WOULD NOT recommend this restaurant!!!!!!

Banging Indian restaurant that never let's you down. Get the pints in, get the poppadoms and crack on with a few curries. Lamb madras was excellent and their vegetarian options are decent without being too greasy.

As soon as I sat down I remember why I don't like this place. The food is meh and the service is bad. There's so many other places around, don't bother. Rude manager and the waiter,pushy servers who leave you waiting. Bad, bad, bad I won't be back.

After being recommended an authentic Indian restaurant by a family from Mumbai. I was shocked by what my experience entailed. To start, service. Non existent. Not invested and no care. One could not tell if he was entering a Screwfix warehouse in Hounslow, or a South West London eatery. It was disappointing to see the chef's had a closer grip of their own members in the guestrooms than they had on the quality of food being served in their own establishment. Without washing hands btw. The beer was as weak as kier starmers debating skills and as flat as rishi's campaign post off shore tax gate. Bhajis were as greasy and dodgy as Jimmy savilles relationship with the BBC. we assumed the drinks offered at the end of the night were as compensation for the shoddy organisation we had to endure. Unfortunately we were charged extra for the privalege. I have no doubts that despite the shortcomings, we will return to enjoy the delights this fine establishment has to offer. If only a change management could occur, this would be made possible.

It took 2 hours for our food to arrive. We booked as a party and we’re so disappointed with the service. Such a shame because when it finally arrived; the food was incredible.

It was an OK experience. They didn't actually have the dish I wanted. The environment was nice though and the staff were very helpful
