Stayed at the Manor Hotel over the road for 1 night and decided to pop in here for a couple of drinks. Has the feel of a proper local pub but the regulars and bar staff (Kieran was a great laugh and very welcoming) were all friendly and chatting away with us. It was Karaoke night with everyone getting involved having a right laugh. If you're visiting the area give this place a visit - you'll enjoy yourself!

Awesome food, friendly atmosphere great value. Sorry about the photo, I just wanted to get stuck in! The lamb shank was incredible, falling of the bone with plenty of delicious gravy! Bar area with pool table and darts if your looking to be social. I preferred the more diner friendly tables at the other side, though there is a separate dining/function room if you are looking for something more intimate at the back. Varied menu and helpful staff. Highly recommend.

We booked a table having read good reviews and also as it is dog friendly. We opened the door and the bar tender shouted across the busy bar we must go round the back as dogs weren't allowed. Everyone in there stared as if we'd walked in with a lion, not an elderly border terrier. The rules had changed apparently in the week since we booked our table, so the landlord said he'd make a special case... We didn't feel special. The pub absolutely stank of cigarette smoke, possibly drifting in from the garden, but very heavy in the air and I did see people walking in with cigarettes alight to use the toilets. The food was shockingly bad. Stale, wilted lettuce absolutely swimming in balsamic vinegar. Soggy, nasty tasting chips, and a chicken parmo that was tough and tasteless, scampi wasn't much better and that came out of a freezer bag! We left. Possibly the worst pub we've ever been in and worst meal we've ever been served.

staying at the Manor Hotel & Spa (love this place) but knock on issues with the kitchen due to covid staff shortages (not their fault at all, and we were informed that this was so) so we went to the Eden for a meal, lovely atmosphere, great land lord & his (cook) wife, plenty on the plate for a very reasonable price, on talking to the landlord there are plans in progress to bring this lovely 'local' into the 21st century with plans to add B&B options, give it a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I wish this lovely couple and their little son all the best for the future.

Looked up some reviews before going. Seemed relatively ok and homely atmosphere. Spoke to a guy who was taking over. Really nice and welcoming. Ordered food and all downhill from there. Cajun chicken burned black on underside. Hunters chicken so overcooked couldn’t cut through with cutlery. Chips also overcooked and greasy. Complained and told would feed back to kitchen. Nothing else said to us and no apology from kitchen! On leaving one of the locals said ‘unhappy customers’. Too right. Not too expensive but when considered we couldn’t eat the food then very overpriced!

The pub was a bit rough, very spit and sawdust. The barmaid on duty was very good however that’s where it all ended. We were served a meal that was covered in burnt black chips. The likes of which we had never seen before, we did complain and after deliberation we were offered a free dessert which we declined. After further deliberation we were not charged for the meals, in reality it was wrong of them to serve such a disgusting meal. I would suggest that this establishment be avoided.

Me and my Mam are staying in West Auckland in the hotel nearby and we came here for one night for some good old pub food. We seen a sign outside which offered 2 meals for £12 which had a good and varied selection of food. The pub itself could do with a little TLC however, the staff and food were amazing. We both opted for the giant Yorkshire pudding, which had roast dinners inside. This was 10* for the price we paid. If you're going near here definitely don't miss this place!

This is the third year running that we have visited this pub when we are on holiday as l cannot resist the siren call of the braised beef and ale pie. You also get very good portions for your money.I cannot understand the mixed reviews unless people are expecting something this establishment is not. It's a PUB with good honest food cooked properly. Its not a twee or bijou bistro, it is what it is, serving the local community, wish we had more like it. We have found the natives (joke for those of you with no sense of humour) to be very welcoming and friendly, some leaving their pony and traps parked on the green outside. The staff are nice and efficient but sometimes they get really busy. Also this year they have a pub dog, Eric, take a bow, who does not bother you when you are eating but is very friendly and has made great friends with our dog.We are going again Tuesday for the last time this year as our holiday is ending.l will go with all the good intentions to try something else on the menu ,but I bet I'll end up with the pie--SUPERB.

We often take our children to this family run pub, the prices are good and the welcome you get is extremely friendly. They make you feel like it's your home away from home, the children enjoy the outdoors and when the weather is bad you are never made to feel uncomfortable about having restless bored children inside. We have made this a regular place to visit for food as a treat for the children and they always choose it as their first choice.

This is one of our local pubs within walking distance. So it was nice and sunny and thought it would be lovely to take the kids to play in the beer garden and have a drink. HOW WRONG WE WERE!!! We arrived and got our drinks and went to sit outside to be greeted by a line full of washing drying...now I understand that people live there but wasn't expecting to see that out on the beer garden during opening time. There is rubbish blowing around all over the outdoor space....then the dog...again I understand if its the owners dog...or a dog friendly pub...I have dogs...but to let your dog out without checkig the garden first to see if there are customers there...it then proceeded to cock it's leg up the buggy!! It is also impossible to allow your children to play in the designated play area as it is covered in dog faeces...we had one drink and left disgusted never to return. It's a shame as a nice family local would be great...but sadly this is not the case....so if you want to take your kids to play outside go to the brewers fayre at least it's clean!

Two of us went for lunch last Sunday. It was our first visit, and our last. We chose to eat in the dining room at the rear of the building. The room was neat and clean and away from the quite noisy pub bar area. The waitress who took our order was morose and just looked bewildered. The waitress who delivered the food was pleasant and welcoming. The food, traditional Sunday lunch was the only item on the menu. The food was OK but nothing special. As there were no menus we had no idea how much the food would cost. The bill was more than we had expected for a mediocre Sunday lunch. Then I decided to visit the gents toilet. If I had visited this first I wouldn't have stayed for food. The toilet seat was hanging off, There was no lock on the cubicle door. The floor was filthy, and there was a CCTV unit filming my visit! A notice on the wall informed me that this was a required police procedure. Really? Filming in a toilet? Definitely not recommended. There are much better value and cleaner eating venues in the area and they don't have CCTV in the loos!

This was horrific, we went in on a Sunday and after ordering drinks were told that they weren't doing food and couldn't think of any other restaurants to recommend. It absolutely stunk of stale fags despite everyone smoking outside. The beer garden was part of the car park and when we went and sat out, a bunch of chavs kept parking up, opening their boots and blasting music out of their cars so they could listen to it in the beer garden! If you're staying at The Manor House, I'd advise drinking in their beer garden and perhaps getting a taxi to a near by restaurant. AVOID

There's not much I can put here apart from I walked in to buy me and the Mrs a drink and there was no bar staff for the 5mins I was standing there. But what also made it uncomfortable was that the locals were all just looking at me? Were they admiring my new jacket? Possibly my good looks? Or was it that I wasn't a local? Either way I didn't find out as the Mrs did not take kindly to being stared at for five minutes solid either and asked if we could go somewhere else.

Stayed with my husband and two friends late November. Usually at this time of year a Christmas tree is up and there are signs of festivity with decorations and music. But alas not here. The lighting is dark and miserable and could have been rectified for at least one month in the year with twinkles. The bed rooms are large, clean and warm at least and food ok. The title says it all! We visited here after being disappointed with the food at the Manor House Hotel, and were very pleasantly surprised. This place is very much a pub rather than a restaurant, chatty locals, out of date decor and all, but don't let that put you off. The menu had plenty of choice, the food was delicious (and there was lots of it on the plate!), the service was quick, the waitress was lovely and the bill was very reasonable! We had a starter to share, a main each, a pudding each, and around 5 alcoholic drinks between us - this came to £41. We waddled out of the place completely stuffed; sadly we couldn't finish our desserts as we were so full. We are unlikely to be in the area again so sadly won't visit the Eden Arms again, however we highly recommend it to anyone.

We took advantage of this offer and we both ordered the braised beef (me with Chips the wife with Veg), which together with a pint of lager for me, and a J2O for the wife came to £17.60. The lady behind the bar who served us, was very pleasant and helpful, and we were soon tucking into our meal. We were not expecting to much given the price, but were pleasantly surprised at just how good the meal was, so much so that we returned the following night to repeat the process, unfortunately the second night was a Tuesday, and they don't serve meals on Tuesdays, so we went away disappointed. We think this is a nice friendly pub that does excellent meals, and should we ever be in the area again, would definitely return to sample their food once more.

Well, we did our research, planned to stop there for lunch on the way up to Edinburgh but got there to find that they don't do food on Tuesday lunchtime - pity the website didn't say so. We ended up having to drive on, hungry, until we found somewhere else and were lucky to do so as it was getting quite late for lunch by then. Surely it's not too much to ask for people to keep their restaurant opening hours up-to-date.

Three wet days back up in County Durham, stayed in West Auckland so returned to this great dog friendly pub. Another warm welcome some of the locals remembered us (or at least our dog) from our last visits!!

Living so close but never been in before for a beer or a meal. Have missed out on some great food. Had to wait a little while for our meal but then food quality is very very good, well presented and at a great price. A good selection of beers available.Bar staff and the locals were very friendly. We will be back

Had lunch here before spending the weekend at the Manor House Hotel. The quality of the food in the Eden Arms is amazing and the value is excellent. The food is homemade ( I would recommend the fish cakes ) and freshly prepared. Service is a little slow but we did not mind as the food was so good and we were a party of eight. I would highly recommend having lunch here it was also excellent value for much better than usual pub food.

Visited the Eden Arms whilst staying in the area for a couple of nights, on our first night we just had a quiet drink, the staff and locals were very friendly and accommodating. We decided to visit again the following evening to dine. The menu was good and the food was tasty and plentiful and very reasonably priced, worth a visit if in the area.

Visited this establishment due to a stay at The Manor House. If I were to review the food it would be 5/5. The food was spot on! Pub grub- I had steak and my husband had the parmo. Compliments to the chef! What was very bizarre was that it is very much a pub for the locals. When seated at a table awaiting our food a local lady approached us and asked if she could sit with us. I told her we were having a private conversation and a romantic weekend away. She said "don't worry I won't listen!" She proceeded to pull her chair up to our table with her drink. I think we may have taken her usual spot perhaps? Anyway, when the lovely waitress come to ask us a question in regards to our food she asked the local lady thinking she was with us what sauce we would like with our food. I told her that the lady wasn't eating with us and we wanted a private table. The lovely waitress took us to a back room.If the pub owner wants to welcome new visitors from outside and take our money they need to have a handle on the locals! It's given me a story to come home with and tell my friends haha! Bizarre behaviour!

We visit here quite often. Always find the staff and regulars friendly and welcoming and have enjoyed the Friday night live music. Food is delicious and excellent value for money with some good offers being available for early evenings.

Visited after 4 yrs today and was very impressed with the extended seating etc but there is no point in having numerous tables when there was obviously a shortage of staff. We waited 45 mins for our and beans. Others were returning to the till asking why they were waiting so long too. Perhaps hadcwe just had a scone and coffee it would have been lovely but waiting so long for hot food was very poor service Very disappointed overall.

I don't normally leave bad reviews but yesterday I visited for breakfast I always have pancakes with fruit and it's usually great but not on this occasion.i usually get the syrup in a little bowl to add to each of my pancakes but it was just a bit on top I opened my pancakes onto my bowl and the others were dry I asked for a little more just to be told I'd have to go pay for some more I explained why has it just been tipped on top I had my fruit in the bottom of my bowl with tiny bits of strawberry but it seemed all muched up because of the syrup they just threw on top I wasted half because it was dry I visit a few times a week but I'm thinking that's the last

It needs o good clean! Dirty venue- seating, carpet, walls. As for the ladies toilet it was horrid. The muck on top of the radiator, panelling coming off the wall, dodgy toilet seats and locks. I do not recommend, they had a meal menu which looked good but with the overall cleanliness of the place I didn’t want to try it.

Ruined evening got dragged out by aggressive bouncer for no apparent reason .family saw and came out after me. father in late 50s rugby tackled to the ground .bouncer who caused this ran back inside .my family outside got no apology and the bouncers outside didn't know what had happened as we didn't. One bouncer shook my father's hand and advised we go to another pub .
