Had a wonderful night with friends last night. The Christmas menu food was absolutely delicious with plenty of veg and everything cooked to perfection (and I'm fussy with Roast dinners)! The Christmas pudding was rich and boozy according to my friends and the cheese board I had was too much for me to finish so my friends helped me out. Excellent choice of drinks available with quality wine and great non alcoholic options of zero Guinness, Gins, Ciders and Lagers for those who are driving. Service is friendly too which is always a bonus. We love our local pub!

What a gorgeous pub! We didn't sample the food because we arrived after the kitchen had closed. Loved the place & will definitely come back. The staff were as warm & friendly as the ambience & the views across the bay from the windows or the terraces were spectacular!

The location is brilliant unfortunately the food was not good I don’t like writing a poor review but the food we had was very unsatisfactory chicken breast was very tough as was the veg which was barely cooked. To blame the chef is unacceptable because a chef couldn’t have been involved in the cooking process. I did hear that it was an “agency chef” however on the 1st sign of a problem the agency should have been contacted and the owners should have made other arrangements. To carry on charging for unacceptable food is a sign of bad management. It takes a long time to get a good reputation and a few moments to destroy it. Always strive for a good name. Pick yourself up dust yourself down and change your priorities

My friend and I walked the coastal path from Wembury to Heybrooke Bay. Then we called into the Inn for lunch. The service was good, and the meals were nicely cooked. Lovely sea views from the restaurant, also a balcony to sit out on if you like fresh air.

A very wet Sunday with a gale blowing led us to seek out a Sunday roast to cheer ourselves up. Our usual local venues for such fare, The Mussel Inn at Down Thomas or The Odd Wheel at Wembury were both full so we tried the Eddystone Inn. We were warmly greeted by the young staff who were really pleasant. A table had just cancelled so we were lucky. We took our places in a bay window and watched the storm that was rising outside over Heybrook Bay and The Mew Stone and were grateful to be warm and snug inside. We ordered the ham croquettes and smoked salmon starters. They were both OK but at £9 and £10 respecively were steeply priced for what we had. Three rather ordinary croquettes sat on a plate with bits of pea shoots and miniscule dabs black garlic mayo and apple sauce and a sliver of pork crackling. The oak smoked salmon was promised to be accompanied by horseradish cream, pickled cucumber, brioche croutons, dill pearls, broad beans and pea shoots. There were three rolled up slices of cheap tasting smoked salmon and three strips of cucumber rind that has been pickled and rolled up with three broad beans and the tiniest amounts of horseradish and even tinier dill pearls - whatever they were supposed to be! They, all four of them, looked like four caviar eggs but with no flavour. We'd ordered the slow roasted belly pork for the mains. The plates were cold and the food lukewarm. The pork was tough as old boots and the crackling didn't crackle, it was like leather and got fed to our dogs as did most of the meat. The French beans were like bullets as was the broccoli. The cauliflower cheese seemed to have missed the cheese and the white sauce was insipid. The roast potatoes had the texture and flavour of boiled potatoes that had briefly been dipped in fat and the Yorkshire puddings tasted like they'd been made a week ago, so tough and inedible were they - the dogs had them too. The roasted carrots had been so overcooked they were actually crisper than the crackling! They too went to the dogs. Everything was also under seasoned and the whole ensemble was sat in a weak watery liquid that was supposed to be gravy. It truly was awful. We of course complained and were offered 10% off and free drinks - I'd have preferred not to have been charged but my partner didn't want to cause a scene. The explanation we received was that the normal chef was on extended leave, that he was off for another four weeks and that they had an agency chef covering for him but there had been a lot of complaints. I wondered why said agency chef was still there if that was the case rather than carry on taking people's money for such poor quality. We didn't take up the offer of free drinks as we wanted food. The 10% off was an insult. My advice to anyone reading this would be to avoid this establishment until November and the proper chef is back. But given we have no idea what his cooking is like either we won't be revisiting the Eddystone Inn ever again. A pity as it's a great location and the staff are lovely. If I were the owners, I'd be on the phone to the agency and demand a replacement and double quick. In the meantime, try elsewhere, like the two establishments I mentioned earlier, their food is great and, more importantly, edible.

My wife Debbie and I were a walk in couple on bank holiday Sunday. We arrived at 12 after a lovely cliff walk from Bovey sands to Eddystone inn. Ordered a coffee each and sat on the terrace to enjoy the views and peaceful location. At the bar there is a sign explaining that walk ins may not get a table for food as pre booked guests have priority. No problem to us but thought I would ask anyway. A lovely young lady said she could fit us in at 12 but would have to be finished by two as it was booked for 2. Again no problem. Ordered fish chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. Wife had a steak and ale pie veg and again triple cooked chips with gravy. Both portions were of a lovely size. My fish was fresh and the batter light and crispy. My wife’s pie was apparently yummy. But both decided the chips were delicious. I could not fault our food, our service or the lovely ice cold lagers. The waitress is a credit to this establishment and for £42 for the quality we had we will definitely be back. Thanks again. Maybe we will park in the car park next time as the walk to Bovey with full bellies was definitely harder 🤣🤗

For the moment, 3 different sites for the Eddystone all fail to work/load. So you would not know that in fact you couldn't get food on a Sunday lunchtime. What sort of pub is it that clearly advertises food, yet you can't be served without pre-booking, despite the majority of tables being empty. Yes, outside you can sit with a lovely view in weak sunshine and a drink, but inside you will be met with a permanent NO or DON'T KNOW.

My husband & I had never been to the Eddystone Inn and decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary and have a meal there. There are 2 small car parks and we had no problem parking but maybe difficult at peak times of the year or at weekends. We had a drink in the bar area first and had booked a table in the restaurant part of the Inn. The bar area allowed dogs and was family friendly. The Inn was very friendly and welcoming and had a cosy feel. The menu was simple no starters but there was tapas you could have I suppose. We opted for mixed meats on sourdough for a starter to share, it was lovely but a little smaller than we expected. Our mains were superb. A local burger, triple cooked chips and coleslaw and I had the Mexican flavoured Prawn Tacos which were lovely and well presented. Nice selection of wines and fairly priced. There was desserts on a specials board but no room for us after our mains. Great service lovely sea views are possible and a big terrace outside. We would happily return a great gastro pub and an enjoyable evening.

Disappointed with the seton mess desert and emailed the next day for a response to our issue (1 raspberry with artificial cream topped with a piece of meringue in a martini glass). I would not have written a trip advisor review had they got back to me but sadly my email was not acknowledged. For that reason it is unlikely I’ll return which is a shame. I haven't been to the Eddystone in a long time but went for lunch and a dinner in the same week. Food was good, I had a pasta dish the first time & chicken the second time & it was really nice. There is a wait when ordering food but that's because I imagine it is freshly prepared to order, it seemed that. We visited this pub twice in one week so it shows we did like it. Food was amazing the first time secon time they were short staffed which can't be helped however we waited 1hr and 10m for our food. 3 of the dishes were pasta which was dry and luke warm after obviously sitting for some time. No toilet roll in the ladies but 7 empty rolls. Shame it really put us off the second visit, although the staff apologised one staff member came across as being slightly rude advising these wait times are normal. Overall I would still recommend as it seemed that night was a one off and the food and views are amazing.

The Eddy has changed hands so many times since we've been coming here (20+ years) but the food is now as good as it's ever been. The views and setting have always been great but the interior is now more modern and in keeping with the location, and the food is very good. Service wasn't great this time. Nice table by the window, decent range of choices on a 'pub classics' type menu (although pie of the day sold out by 7pm). Couldn't see any starters though. Quite a long wait for meals to arrive (50 mins+) and had to go to the bar to get more drinks as nobody came near the table. Food very good when it arrived, burgers in particular clearly home made and very tasty. Nobody came to clear the table or take desert/drinks orders until I went and asked 15-20 mins after we'd finished. There seemed to be a lot of staff around but not doing the basics of table service. When we were leaving a guy was stood at the empty bar for ages while other staff cleaned tables nearby - he clearly wanted to pay but nobody even acknowledged him, I'd have left! Did order a couple of deserts but they didn't match menu descriptions. lemon roulade with lemon sorbet came with vanilla ice-cream and a thin strawberry jam like sauce. The honeycomb cheesecake with salted caramel ice-cream came with...vanilla ice-cream and a thin strawberry jam like sauce. Whatever the sauce was it didn't go well with either. Perhaps they were out of the salted caramel and sorbet but best just to tell customers than plonk on an alternative and hope they don't notice. So, overall, good food, pleasant surroundings and some friendly/welcoming staff but pretty naff service when it came to timings and attentiveness.

Beautiful setting and the building was really nice. The steps down were newly finished, with a non slip gravel plus edging. The entrance was very welcoming and it was all decorated to a very high standard. The staff were very friendly and polite, and we sat outside which was stunning. We waited 30+ minutes for our pasta, which looked rather small for £14 each! It was also cold, I told the lady and she said it would be replaced. After waiting an hour in total the “freshly made” replacement meal arrived, it was also lukewarm and the pasta was sticky, like it had been reheated. Needless to say it was extremely disappointing! ☹️

We walked here from Wembury on a Monday lunchtime and the climb up the hill was definitely worth it! The food was top notch, with the only criticism possible being their need to put the chips (which were cut in a unique way that made them extra crunchy and delicious) in a little frying basket… why??? The summer seafood chowder was superb but just another little niggle that the bread came out a little later than the main. These are very small details and probably harshly, the only reason why they don’t get a 5 rating. Solid 4.5 if TA let you so that. Oh yeah, the view… spectacular

Disappointed! Cold food , menu mostly burgers , food took ages , menu didn't have a great choice , two vegans in our party weren't impressed either .

The amazing new menu has so much choice now it was really hard to decide, it had one of the best pub menus I’ve seen. 4 of us sat outside and we had burgers, lasagne and caesar salad. Could not fault anything, all good size portions and absolutely delicious, the chips were the best I’ve tasted! Fantastic view and great service from our server Gaynor. Will definitely be returning many times in the future as lucky enough to live 3 miles away.

Really nice pub with friendly bar staff and a nice view of the eddystone lighthouse on the horizon. Hours need updating, I believe they're open Monday and Tuesday. Not sure the exact times but I popped in on a walk last Monday evening and they were open

We had a table for four by the window on a lovely sunny day. It was very busy outside. The views from the pub are spectacular. The menu has recently changed and does not disappoint, all four meals were lovely and nicely presented. The chowder was really good. Staff also very friendly. Will definitely be coming back to try more of the menu. Thank you Eddystone 👍😊

Our second stay here and when i return home, I will be booking a third for early 2025. Such an amazing, beautiful experience staying here. The food is absolutely divine. The staff are just fantsdtic. So polite, so helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The young French gentleman, Cyril, was on his own this morning, yet provided the highest standard of service to us. A real gentleman. We stayed in The Nightingale room, which was huge and overlooking the river. An absolute joy to awake, draw back the curtains and take in such a view. We cannot recommend this venue highly enough.

Everything was fine except the fruit scone lacked fruit, oddly just two sultanas on one side of the scone. Sorry said it has to add up to minimum of 100 characters

Not visited for a while and there’s a new manager in place. On arrival we were told that your booked table “was in there with your name on it”. The open fires have been replaced with what looks like dog baskets so the atmosphere seemed cold. Food was ok by the way and as the evening progressed we were being pushed to move on. At this point the restaurant was less than half full with no one waiting to sit to eat. I asked for an Irish coffee and the reply was simply “no”.Then out of the blue he exited from the kitchen grabbed our glasses which weren’t empty and said” we are closing in 5 minutes please leave” . This was at 9.55 pm with other drinkers still in the bar. Bloody ignorant and rude I think and won’t be returning

We had two lovely lunches here while staying in the area this week. The staff were welcoming, helpful and incredibly friendly on both occasions. Food was delicious and great quality. Sea food platter was definitely a hit as well as the fish goujon roll. We arrived on one of the days as the kitchen was about to close but the staff were happy to accommodate us for lunch but didn’t rush us at all. Would love to visit again next time we’re in Thurlestone.
