Very clean, organised barn stop offering a good selection of cakes and snacks. Also a great variety of drink choices. Clean and tidy tables and toilets. All offered on an honesty basis. I hope people respect this trust and pay for a lovely place to stop and refuel.

Follow the blue tea cup signs to this brilliant ‘help yourself’ cafe in a barn. They have thought of everything. There is an urn, fridge freezer and a table laid out with all sorts of snacks. While we were there the owner brought out slices of his wife’s homemade carrot cake to add to the selection. Delicious! We had the correct money (bring notes and coins because there is no change) but you can also pay online. How rare to find an eatery based on people’s honesty. Long may it continue.

Perhaps not at its best today. Like the honesty box and the trust involved in offering four and drink, but I arrived with high expectations and the somewhat tasteless chocolate cake in a paper bag and tea with dried milk was quite a disappointment. Hopefully the catering will change post Covid

If you're walking between Salcombe and Hope Cove this is a great stopping point and probably needs all walker support so its able to fully open when life goes back to normal. There's no-one in attendance and its all self service. Lovely cakes which i assume are home made. Its a few minutes walk from the National Trust car park and maybe 15 minutes off the SW coastal path past Middle Soar. We did a circular walk from Overbeck's NT House for about 3 hours.

Had a walk to Bolt Head and saw Ravens and Cirl Buntings en route. On our return we popped into the Walkers' Hut. It is a barn really. There was a good variety of cakes and coffee. You just help yourself, note what you have had, and place your payment in the money box. The arrangements are based on trust, which is wonderful. I do hope that no one abuses it. On a quite blustery day we decided to walk around the coastal path of East Soar. We had not planned to visit the walkers cafe as we really had no idea it was there. However, we were glad we did. A very simple approach to providing a hot cup of tea and some wonder baked delights. Payment in cash only by way of an honesty box with a price list above the serving desk. The cakes are all wonderful and a decent size. The fresh scones with cream and jam were brilliant. At £1.70 the tea is fairly priced and at £3 the scones with jam.and cream good value as they are not small. Plenty of seats and tables in a barn like shelter from the weather. A great idea.

We’ve just had a short break in the self cattering cottage based at East Soar farm , what can I say , amazing we’ve known this area and stayed in and around salcombe for over 35 years. This was by far the best location yet , so quiet and peaceful .Schalk and Marijke are very welcoming and we arrived to the log burner alight and fresh baked scones, cream and jam laid out on the table. We used the cottage to walk from most days and left the car parked in the barn. It was a lovely short break. The cottage was cosy and warm , clean with plenty of towels and a bottomless log basket ! Thank you so much for a lovely stay , we didn’t want to come home . We shall return we popped into the walkers hut and it’s like your kitchen but outside, had everything catered for and saw quite a few fellow walkers using it , felt it was almost a shame to only have to walk around the corner and make tea in the cottage .

Stumbled across this place while walking from Bolt Head back to East Soar car park. An open barn with tables and benches and a little "kitchen" where you can make your own coffee, tea (breakfast tea, herbal or earl grey) hot chocolate or grab a cold drink from the fridge. Large slices of beautiful home-baked cakes mean you put back on the pounds you've lost hiking and apparently cream teas are available too. Lovely crockery, cafetieres and teapots are provided but it is hoped that everyone washes up after themselves. There were also a couple of books on bird identification which came in useful. An outdoor bench overlooking a meadow with sheep, rabbits and a small horse completed the picture. A lovely, easy-going, natural ambience with a pleasantly rustic feel. Tips: take small notes/change for the honesty box. Leave the cafe as you'd like to find it and check website first as opening hours probably change seasonally and they do shut occasionally for events (a wedding party was taking place but we were still allowed through - feeling a tad underdressed!)

They were the best scones I've had in years (and I've eaten plenty!), wonderful cream tea with enormous scones, plenty of jam and local clotted cream. Our three children had cake and juices which they wolfed down and suddenly found the energy to play outside in the sunshine. The toilets and showers in the barn next door looked absolutely immaculate, as did the whole farm. A gentle flat walk from the carpark to the Walker's Hut, great to pop into on way back from a walk to Starehole or Soar Mill. What a fabulous concept. Yes it is make it yourself, but there would not be sufficient folk passing through to warrant full time staff, particularly in adverse weather! So this is perfect for it's location. Everything is there for you, put the kettle on, grab a teapot or cafetière, and away you go. There is quite a selection of teas available, coffee, hot chocolate, marshmallows, cold drinks etc, and a selection of wonderfully delicious cakes. Yes you do wash up after yourself, and there is an honesty box, but really it has a lovely atmosphere. It is this that makes it special. £2.50 for a generous slice of gorgeous cake is well worth it. These have to be made, provisions supplied, and still putting away and checking all is clean, so yes worth every penny. There are animals nearby which are great to observe.Everyone appeared to be enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and the help yourself service. The layout has been carefully thought through, and the wood chip floor works well. The toilets were spotless, and there is camping on site too. Indeed an Outdoors Experience to remember.

Our second visit so we knew what to expect, but it is still a real delight to find delicious home made cakes and scones laid out ready. Yes you have to make your own tea and coffee (but with two young boys ready to play at cafes and waiters, that is half the fun for us) and yes it is the same price as a more conventional coffee shop, but it's brilliant. The little play area for children is ideal as they can play safely while you enjoy a pot of tea. Some little lambs came to say hello which added to the fun.Great clean toilets too. To steal one of the comments on the chalk board from another customer - "NT at its best".

We spotted this place on trip advisor and decided to give it a visit on our walk from Soar Mill Cove to Salcombe. In one way it's great to have a place that's based on trust (you serve yourself, put your money in an 'honesty box' and then wash your own dishes!) but the prices don't reflect the fact that you are doing the work and are prices I'd expect to see in a well staffed cafe offering 'afternoon teas' where your waited on and given full attention of the staff there. Don't get me wrong, it's a great experience and a welcome break midway through a walk, but the lack of service should be reflected in the price really? We'll visit again but maybe not as often as I would like?

We found this hidden gem by accident and were totally amazed. We walked along from the car park at Soar and wandered into a farm yard following the signs for a cafe. My mother who is 82 found the going easy along quite a long track. We were greeted by some cattle en-route, sheep on arrival and also a couple of very friendly donkeys and a shetland pony. No human in sight!! Then the barn/cafe I have never come across anything like it. Its a do it yourself cafe, everything you need to make tea, coffee, and a range of cold drinks. Home-made delicious cakes and an honesty box, yes really, and what a refreshing change, its so nice to see that real values still exist. A very friendly kitten greeted us in the barn and was very willing to sample the cake if given the opportunity. Everything was spotlessly clean, the toilets could put many a restaurant to shame and i would have loved to have met the people who have put so much time and effort into running such a refreshing venture. Well done and congratulations in restoring my faith in real values

Location is wonderful just above Starehole Bay. Much needed re-fueling spot on a Sunday morning after sea swim. Coffee was ideal, and both cakes warm (sense just baked) and tasty. Sat inside the cavernous barn. Was busy at 11 is, but relaxed with range of dogs and children.

The Loveliest couple you will meet running an amazing Tea and Cake walkers barn on the way from Salcombe to Soar Mill Cove.Highlights were meeting the best behaved "Daisy" Dog and friendly young helper Matt, who we think is rather specialDon't miss the Chocolate or Carrot Cake's, washed down with Heron Valley Apple Juice and your choice of Teas. Help yourselves with honesty box when they are busy running the farm elsewhere.

Stopped off here during a walk around the headland. The tea barn has a very airy feel and staff were very welcoming. They do lovely cream teas and good tea and coffee. Very different to your typical cafe. Would be even better if there was a gluten free cake option.

We arrived here almost on our knees having walked for miles with a very tired dog.A choice of different tea varieties (in a tea pot!) and a delicious cream tea made it all worth while. An ideal spot if you have children in tow, if we didn't live locally I would havebooked us in for a night of "Outdoor Experience" the cooking pits looked such fun andvery sociable, maybe pack the grand-children off here next time they want to stay!!

Read about this on the National Trust website then found it whilst out on a walk along the SW Coastal path. What a fantastic find! Lovely, warm welcome and a refreshing stop for drinks and cake! Lovely little play area for my two children and clean toilets. Definitely worth using as a pit stop. We parked at East Soar car park.

What a refreshing change to many of the Salcombe establishments which serve very expensive poor quality food with a bit or a surly face. One of the nicest friendliest places I have visited anywhere. The wonderfully friendly owner was serving when we visited and not expecting to call my mother and I didn't have enough money for tea and a scone. The owner insisted we still had one and could return with the £3 we owed! How lovley to come across such trust. After a wonderful pot of tea and delicious scone served with plentiful clotted cream and jam we returned to our caravan and went straight back to pay our debts. The setting is beautiful, the open barn and loos provided were spotless, cakes and tea delicious and owner a joy to meet. I will be back on my next return to Salcombe and my sister has already visited on her first day of her holidays. A delight and if you struggle with walking they don't mind if you drive down. Do go for a wonderful experience.

You do not come across this type of operation very often, after a long walk in the wind and driving rain it was a welcome rest, great tea and coffee, fantastic selection of cakes, caters for large groups and pets welcome. All in a open barn with adjacent toilet facilities. Honesty box provided. I wish there were more places like this .

Emma provided a FABULOUS spread for 120 people following a funeral at Stoke Gabriel church. Everyone was catered for and the food was exceptional, most notably the crab cakes, samosas and scones, with jam and cream of course. Aunt and uncle have lived in the village for more than 50 years and have dined at Emma’s many times, always speaking MOST highly of the restaurant, food and Emma herself. Thank you!

Great wagyu burgers whatever the time of day! Fantastic friendly service by someone so enthusiastic about burgers. Not normally a burger fan but these... other worldly. I am yet to try the Halloumi burgers but I'm sure they are also awesome.

Had dinner here with my partner. It’s a real locals pub but with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The steak and kidney pudding and lamb shank were both really tasty and very reasonable in price. We will definitely be coming back here and will recommend to friends if they’re in the area.
