From the outside this restaurant doesn’t look much but just because it’s not modern looking, don’t let that put you off! The service was excellent, nothing was a problem. Before the food was served the plates were bought to table and they really really hot, which I personally like, as some restaurants they are barely warm. The food was delicious, all meat dishes were tender and flavoursome. Chairs look a little dated but are very comfortable. The staff were all very polite and cheerful, which is so refreshing.

Two visits to this venue, within a fortnight. The first was with a friend from Hinchley Wood. At this point, I hadn’t eaten here, in about 28 years or so, staggeringly. It’s very decently priced, unpretentious and Old School 90s + curries, with some newer dishes, which are frankly delicious. It’s quite basic inside, but very spacious. Staff are really very nice indeed. The second visit was on a Sunday, at 6 pm, with my father. By about 7.15 pm, the venue was half full, which is impressive for a Sunday. Really enjoyable.

I've been coming here since I was a teenager and I'm now 34. For me, East India is not only nostalgic but I genuinely find it really tasty. I'd order my takeaway from them if they were closer than my takeaway spot. A thali is always an option that leaves you full to the brim! I love their pilau rice as you don't get the rainbow rice in many places. I also rate the korma and dansak. Onion bhajis are massive and their saag paneer is top notch.. really life how they do it. I will forever be a returning customer. And it is nice to have a chat with some of the staff you have been there since I was a youngester.

I ate here on Saturday night having chosen it because the other options nearby all looked like they'd charge twice the price and be half as tasty, and I'm really pleased we went. It's pretty no frills, but it was one of the best curries I'd had in ages, and great value for money. The staff were all incredibly friendly as well. Would definitely recommend, particularly the chicken tikka jalfrezi! And will be back again when next in the area.

Received poor service in this restaurant. The waiter was very rude and matter of fact which really put me and my partner off. In addition to the rudeness, my starter of tandoori chicken was not cooked properly and was raw on the inside! I definitely will not be coming here again and recommend others to stay well clear.

DONT COME HERE! worked here for a while, saw the horrible things they did with the food. You might be getting 'nice' food. However what you are actually getting is someones left overs. The salad that's supposed to be fresh is no way near there, its been sitting on someone else's plate before yours. The mango chutney taste a little watered? YES that's because it is. They mix it with water in a big bucket before being served. The food there is disgusting, if a customer doesn't finish there salad, chutneys they don't throw it away, its REUSED! Chicken tikka starter, didn't finish it? well guess what its going to be reheated in the microwave onto the next customer. management are money hungry. Run by 3 brothers, the eldest brother is rude and only cares about money. TIPS goes to management even if they say it doesn't IT DOES.

A friend recommended this place to me because of the great prices and the quality of the food and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food for the amazing price that it was. It was very quiet when we went with only one or two other family's in the restaurant and it was a Saturday but we found it nice and relaxing and had a great atmosphere. We found it worked very well to get a few dishes and then just share them and we all thoughry enjoyed our meal. Can't think of many problems about this place but could use for a bit of redecorating inside but all in all very good :)

We go here regularly. Never booked as we go early evening and I think to be honest people judge a book by its cover. In this instance that is a big mistake. Yes its not been revamped for years, carpet is a bit tatty in places but please overlook that and have a seat. Trust me, the service is as nice as the food. You will be surprised ! Half price all the time make it a very affordable meal out and the menu has a great variety of dishes. The best dish of all is the one with the bill on, if you haven't gone mad with the drinks you'll say "is that all !" The waiting staff are always lovely. Especially the young ladies there of late. Certainly the best value Indian restaurant in the area. Very no frills in terms of decor, it was very dated but clean. However, we experienced friendly service and decent food and drink at an incredibly low price for the area. We all ate at under £10 per person and the very drinkable wine was only £10.99 a bottle.

As you look in from the outside, you would probably be forgiven for thinking there are be better Indian restaurants you can go to. It's a thought that is probably correct. Indeed, just a few doors down is a cluster of other Indian restaurants, many with far more attractive decor that doesn't look like it was bought during the last century. I suspect that this puts the East India at a big disadvantage from the offset. East India is not the flag-bearing standard for curry houses. Importantly, however, it does not try to be. And if you go in without the expectations of fine dining and wine with beautiful paintings hanging on the walls, you won't be leaving disappointed. What you should be expecting as you step in is your standard British Indian Restaurant curry, served in decent portions at a fair price. In this regard, East India excels. I have been here with friends on many occasions this year. Each time, we have never had issues with the food (it has always arrived in a timely manner), have always been welcomed dearly, and, without fail, received a nice surprise at the end in the form of the bill. The bill is something that previous reviewers have already picked up on. East India's pricing is its strong point. It always seems to be lower than your prepared for (sods law the next one will probably be far higher). The food is good, but the it's the value that truly makes it. If you want an evening meal with good food at a price that doesn't leave your wallet crying like a Phaal might (or, dare I say, a Korma as one of my more spice intolerant friends recently demonstrated), then you cannot go wrong with the East India.

East India's proud boast is that it's Surbiton's original curry house; the very first Indian restaurant in the late 60s, blazing the trail where so many others have followed. The food is good, but the value is even better. You pay cash and you pay half the advertised dish price. That's an extraordinary deal as the prices are very reasonable anyway.Where the restaurant stumbles slightly is the decor. 'Tired' would be a polite way of putting it, but there are other words as well. The carpets look like the inside of a flooded home after the waters have subsided. The wallpaper is so kitsch it's as if it's been deliberately created as a pastiche of 1970s curry houses. Everything is quaint and old-fashioned. There's a water feature as you walk in (naturally it doesn't work), the fridges look like prototypes from a Soviet factory in the 80s, the lighting is hit and miss and the service is patchy. But who cares? This is affordable family and student eating out.Students often seem to make up the bulk of the clientele simply because it is cheap and cheerful and you can have a good fill on a low budget.Quality-wise it's as good as other town-centre establishments. The chicken jalfrezi is powerful and poky, but even the chicken phall - a dish I would normally treat with such respect that I'd steer clear of its fieriness - is strong, well balanced and a worthwhile experience. Just have several jugs of water handy. This is a great experience, especially when the bill arrives and you have to double-check in disbelief, convinced they must have forgotten several items.Ignore the decor; you're here for the nosh!

Been coming here for over 25 years and nearly always have a non-vegetarian Thali. As others have said the food is half price for cash and in my experience the food is good quality and tasty but the more expensive ingredients not so lavish. That said the portion of tandoori chicken on the Thali is huge. The dishes were all well presented and the nan bread are some of the best of I've had. We upgraded our nan breads to keema for him and garlic for me. After the first bite my partner promptly ordered an extra nan bread. Service was a bit slower than usual but it was Bank Holiday Monday. The Kingfisher tasted a bit caramelly but the waiter sorted that out without any fuss. The staff ordered us a taxi home and that was reasonable too!

After overlooking this curry house for over 25 years on the basis it always has a half price curry sign outside, I thought I would give it a try. After walking in and realizing I was the only one in there I started to get a bit worried about what I may be about to eat. The 2 waitresses looked at me like they were shocked they had a customer. The menu looked OK and the prices (before the half price discount) were actually quite high. So being a glass is half full kind of person I thought maybe it will surprise me and it will be really nice. After ordering a King Prawn Bhuna the waitress then explained that King Prawn dishes were not part of the half price deal so I decided to opt for the Chicken Bhuna with Pilau Rice and Spinach and mushroom side. So anyway waiting for my food and looking around at the very tired decor inside my optimism was waning. After an initial cold poppadom and some dodgy looking dips about 15 minutes later the food came. Well my worst fears were realized, it looked disgusting and it didn't taste much better. It was greasy and slimy food and did not look or taste fresh at all. It was frankly horrible. I asked for it to be Madras hot and when tasting it, it was not hot at all. After speaking to the waiter instead of taking my dish and heating it up with spices, he brought 2 cold green chillis on a plate! I was trying not to laugh at this point. The portions was very small and I didn't eat much of it. What amazed me was that the reviews for on here for last year and the year before were actually very good. I will never go back to this Indian restaurant in a million years. one to avoid unless you are a student you don't have much money and you really want to eat cheap muck.

Food was TERRIBLE. old brown lettuce with our starter, microwaved samosas. My partner and I ordered different rice and ended up having the same with mine having eggs chopped and thrown into it. Ok, so it's not the nicest of decor but the food and beer are good, so who cares! The place has never been packed when I've gone in and I've never made a reservation. The first time I went, I noticed a musty smell. I think this was from a water feature they had near the front of the restaurant, which didn't smell too pleasant. I've been coming to this restaurant every so often for more than 30 years. Throughout that time it has gradually become better and better. It is conveniently situated on a busy main road and within a few yards of a railway bridge carrying trains from Waterloo to Portsmouth etc but there is no noise or vibration discernible from them in the restaurant when they go past. The food is consistently tasty, well presented and served without any undue delay. The atmosphere is welcoming and the decor is pleasing and simple. My experience of the staff over the years has been that they are friendly and attentive - but not intrusive.Reading the other reviews, one sympathises with what appear to have been lapses in the standard; I can only say that, over the years, I and the various people with whom I've been to the restaurant, have not encountered any of the problems mentioned - or any other problems. The overall feeling of the reviewers seems to be more positive than negative and I certainly agree that the 50% discount for cash for food does make eating there good value; in these days of having to tighten our belts financially, this is an important plus point.

We have been coming here for about 15 years, and although we now live in Banstead we still try to come as often as we can.As regular customers will know, there is a 50% discount on food for cash, which makes a meal here great value if you remember to visit the cashpoint first. I always see a lot of the same customers dining here, which is a good sign. Staff are very friendly and always chat to us.During busy periods service can be a bit slow, as this is a popular restaurant. Food is good but not amazing; some things they manage better than others, for example I love the bhuna and dupiaza but kormas seem to taste funny, I don't know why but I tried one a couple of times and it didn't quite taste right, so now I stick to non-creamy curries here. Portions are slightly smaller than some other restaurants, but this doesn't really bother me as I'm little and hate wasting food, and usually manage to eat my meals here.Overall though, this is good value for money if you make use of the offer...great for a meal when you're strapped for cash before payday!

We ordered a lamb and a chicken curry and both were great and the naan breads impressive. I used the toilet which is down the back by the kitchen and at first was impressed that it was so clean and looked like it was recently refurbished. However I then found a dead cockroach on the floor in the cubicle which really freaked me out and we left immediately. The service is friendly but it is the value-for-money which makes this place memorable; 50% off if paying by cash (you'd be crazy not to). OK the list prices are a little on the high side but when you knock 50% off you can't go far wrong). Drinks are reasonably priced too. Would recommend anything served on a sizzler pan as the aroma is mouth watering. Keep up the good work guys!

This indian is by far my favourite in the area. Living within a 2 minute walk of the restaurant, and having 5 indian restaurants (including this one) within close proximity, this one definitely gets our vote!!Service is always excellent, very friendly! Food can be a little slow on busy evenings, however the food is always piping hot and well worth the wait. The value is excellent and really attracts us to the restaurant, as the quality of food does not suffer! We bring all our visitors to this restaurant and will continue to do so! Lots of comments how nice it is, and on return visits are asked for by friends and family! The Thali is definitely a favourite, a "tapas" style with mini dishes of food. It is excellent!

Having recently moved to the area and tried all the Indians in such close proximity. East India is our preferred Indian to show friends and family. With 50% off when paying in cash - everyone leaves feeling impressed and with full pockets! The chicken saag is delicious. The service is excellent, very friendly. However, due to it being very busy, sometimes the food is a little slow to come out.

This was my first visit to this restaurant but will certainly not be my last. We went on Christmas Eve, there was not a lot of atmosphere, but staff were very quick to seat our party of six, very warm and friendly greeting. The restaurant appeared very clean and neatly presented. Very good choice on the menu, I chose chicken and spinich for my main meal with lemon rice, it was delicious. We all chose something different and all adults agreed the food was very tasty. There were two young children in our party and the staff were very friendly towards them, nothing was too much trouble, they took great care in telling us the plates were very hot in case the children touched them. The desserts were delicious. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived as we were quite early due to the children being with us, but the restaurant was filling up as we left. The portions are quite large. If you pay cash there is a 50% discount on the food, drinks are a bit expensive, as you would expect! As children are allowed to eat in the restaurant it would be nice to perhaps have some drinks especially for kids and not the large glasses of blackcurrant, which was wasted. Both children enjoyed their peas and rice also the ice cream desserts. Although not the best curry I have had, it is certainly very good. I would certainly recommend East India to anyone.

But in a good way. East India has been around for a very long time and always provides good value and excellent service throughout the decades. The atmosphere is exactly what you expect when you enter, time has stood still. The staff are not overly friendly and very efficient, the food is always very good from just a starter through to the the main course. I have only had the Chicken once and you will not when you see the menu (Chicken should not be that cheap!?!) but always go for the Lamb and the vegetable dishes - they are cooked perfectly. Back to the menu and there is a 50% discount if you pay cash only although this does not include drinks. The East India restaurant is one of the best and will always be looked upon as a great place in Britain! I recommend this place.

It has been quite a while since our last visit to Roz Ana but we rectified this on the weekend and went for a family dinner. Food and service were top notch! There were some wonderful new dishes on the menu, along with existing favourites. The red snapper and the biryani were highlights. Will not be waiting so long for our next visit. This is one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to and can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Take away and cash only if paying at the place - probably most order online. Superb - had the Vegetable Thali and Onion Bahji. Thali was huge, tasty, fresh and excellent value for money and the bahji was so tasty. Thoroughly recommend.
