Great food, nice people and nice atmosphere. We had lovely hand made chips with prawns in breadcrumbs which were delicious. Rice pudding was fantastic with added flavourings (a special for that day). The sticky toffee pudding was gorgeous. Hope to be back soon.

What an incredible little find this pub was after a lovely walk on the moor!! A full comprehensive menu served at lunch time, a great selection of drinks and the warmest welcome from Nicky. My partner and I counted 50 people in the room, all having food and drinks and Nicky managed the front of house alone like a true professional. Every table was treated like they mattered. Every customer was greeted. Every dog was made a fuss of and in the hour we were at the pub the atmosphere was like nothing I have ever witnessed. Nothing was too much to ask and everyone was happy and joyous while waiting for the amazing food. We assumed nicky was part of the furniture then she disclosed when asked that she had only been at the helm for 3 weeks!!!! What an incredible young lady she is!!! Our food was cooked to perfection, we briefly saw the chef when he helped by delivering our food and he was pleasant and cheerful whilst clearly very busy. An amazing pub, team and they really are going places. It was lovely to sit and watch which is very likely a normal day for them. 5 stars to all

I visited this pub with a few friends and my 2 year old son (who is autistic), and to say I was absolutely disgusted would be an understatement. On arrival everything was good the guy behind the bar was lovely we got our drinks all was good, we then ordered food and my 2 year old started to get a little bored in hopes to keep him busy and quiet I got him some ducks which did squeak to play with. The lady I believe is the bar manager kept looking at us disgustingly and said to one of the customers loud enough so we could hear “it’s not usually this loud in here” so we thought that was a bit weird but left it and carried on trying our best to keep him busy and then for a second time to the customer she says again even louder this time “it will be quiet by the time you go to sleep” this left me feeling really embarrassed and I felt like I had no choice but to get my child and leave, my friends had to sort the bill out as I couldn’t stay any longer. I think this was so unprofessional and she could have just asked us to keep the noice down instead of embarrassing me like that! If you have kids I would not recommend this pub, I honestly left the pub in tears as I get he’s loud but I tried everything in my power to keep him quiet but kids just aren’t quiet and at 2 years old they just don’t understand. For a pub that pride themselves on being a “family pub” they sure as hell don’t make you feel welcome. Autism is a hidden disability and shouldn’t need to be mentioned to get respect at a “family pub”!

Went here today on a "Whim" and don't you just love it , when you "Get It Right" !! Instantly felt welcome , Karen & her staff are superb & the food was "Superberer" ! This "Moorland Gem" is undergoing steady extensive restoration , so give a little patience , to areas still requiring attention (Rome wasn't built in a day) . WELL IMPRESSED ! We'll be back Bry Mary & Stan (Border Terrier)

We have been avoiding the East Dart because of previous bad experiences but had heard that it was under new management so thought we would give it another go. They have transformed the place. It has been redecorated throughout and now has a very welcoming feel to it. We were visiting mid week and out of season, so the menu was limited to pub favourites, but these were very tasty and prepared with a flair that bodes well for when the new chef has settled in and is able to fully display his obvious talents. The attentive barman noticed that it was one of our party's birthday and her ice cream was served with a profiterole with a candle in it and "happy birthday" beautifully written on the plate in chocolate sauce. Little touches that make all the difference. We will certainly be returning.

Recently refurbished, very clean throughout and bar area much nicer now. Accommodation clean, and comfortable, hot shower. Room very cold on arrival as no heating on and owners comments about cost of heating wasn't really appropriate or necessary. Breakfast cooked by chap who served in bar was great - he's a real asset! Had one evening meal which wasn't the best but understand no chef at moment so hopefully this will change. Music and heating in bar area would be good.

We waited over an hour for two sandwiches. The sole staff member was perfectly pleasant but seemed completely oblivious to this. When it finally arrived the cheese & chutney sandwich was almost all chutney and very little cheese. The soup was tasteless. We certainly won't come again.

We went here mid October one Saturday lunchtime early. No other customers in the bar/restaurant.A very strange elderly Lady wearing protective coloured type goggles/glasses came over and asked if we wanted food ? and if so she would go and fetch "someone" ! A young Lady appeared with bright pink cerise hair and was friendly and took our drinks order and gave us the menu.My partner asked for the steak but was told they had none ! Why not ?this was in fact the weekend ! so he ordered ham egg and chips and me the scampi and chips. Two elderly Ladies came in and ordered food also. After half an hour waiting we asked where our order was,to be told "on it's way "the other two got their order(not sure what they had though) and they too had previously asked where food was ! Three quarters of an hour after ordering food in an empty bar and restaurant and basic items it eventually arrived ! What took so long to cook frozen chips and scampi and frozen chips and fry an egg ?!?The ham was good, home cooked and came with one fried egg and fries, mine was half a dozen small pieces of scampi cooked well, fries and small amount of peas not boiled properly (probably microwaved ?) there was no side salads or anything "extra" at all with the meals.Bland and under whelming. Also, for some bizarre reason the place was decked out in the most tacky Halloween decorations I have ever seen ! Like plastic clowns and witches and fake saws and hammers dripping in blood-Why ? it was hardly a family pub and would scare most kids half to death.Certainly not what you would expect in an ancient Duchy pub on Dartmoor. There was no atmosphere, there was no staff around, there was no customers! such a shame....they really are missing a trick here as apparenly under new management/owners and have made a grand job of refurbing toilets etc.Would never go back and it was expensive too.

We originally booked to stay for a couple of nights at the East Dart inn and enjoyed it so much we extended our stay for an additional night. The food was absolutely fantastic, it was child and dog friendly, the room was above expectations and everyone made us feel so welcome. I would highly recommend a stay here on the moor. Since the current owners have taken over and refurbished, it’s a completely different place to when we last stayed a number of years ago. We spend a lot of time on the moor and we will definitely be returning. Thank you for looking after us so well 😃

Best fish 'n chips we've had in a while. Lots of seating areas and space. Very pleasant. It was just before evening rush, so particularly quiet and enjoyable. Can't fault anything - thank you!

While waiting for the Two Men and Their Dogs sheepdog training session (reviewed by me separately) we followed the Ranger recommendation and went to the east dart Inn for dinner. We were almost alone there due to the early time of day. The server was very friendly and efficient. We took Fish & Chips (yours truly) and an excellent Chicken Curry (the lady). I enjoyed a pint of local IPA and the lady had a pilsner. We ended the meal with a very tasty Apple and Berry Crumble with lots of hot custard. Lovely Meal!! Pleasant surprise!!

Delicious curry and varied dishes. Good amount of meat to sauce and generous portion sizes.

Circumstances made me a lone visitor in the early evening and as, for most of the time, I was the only one there I cannot offer comments about atmosphere or speed of service at busy times, though my meal came quickly. Excellent food, though I felt it was expensive.

This is an amazing restaurant with fabulous food and amazing value. We were a party of 28 that were staying at the Ashbury Manor and booked here for a little excursion. The welcome we received was fab and the food was really tasty and extremely good value. To serve so many without pre-ordering was impressive, too. We will be returning next year and won't hesitate to book again. Recommend this place to anyone.
