Circumstances made me a lone visitor in the early evening and as, for most of the time, I was the only one there I cannot offer comments about atmosphere or speed of service at busy times, though my meal came quickly. Excellent food, though I felt it was expensive.

We had takeaway from here while visiting Tavistock and it was excellent. The chicken tikka in the curries was cooked beautifully and everything was extremely tasty and well spiced. Ordered online and our order was ready when we went to collect. Excellent!

2 meals no drinks over £70?? Seriously? Less than impressed by the starters, waiter didn't even know what he brought out! Dupiazi was more like jalfrezi. Meat was chewy. Chips were over cooked. Poppadoms basic. Place was like a restaurant from the 1980's. Sorry but just avoid. Though considering we went on a Friday night and there was only 3 tables sat (including ours), suspect word is getting around anyway.

Wow.! We have just had our first takeaway from here and it was delicious. The chicken rogan josh was full of big chunks of chicken. Juicy and cooked to perfection. The veg tikka was literally the best I have ever tasted. We had the pilau rice with poppadoms. I also had a peshwari naan. Again, the nicest I've had so far. Complimentary yoghurt riata and onion and tomato. Customer service is Fab. Our usual takeaway was closed. However this will now be our go to for food. I honestly can't recommend it enough.

I used to use ethe Ganges regularly for both dining in and takeaways. Last night we had the latter. Soggy poppadums, undercooked onion bhajees and two watery curries. The pulau rice was the only dish cooked properly. Maybe the restaurant has changed hands as the two guys serving were both white Europeans. Whatever it was a dreadful meal. Despite being local we won't be returning.

Beautiful ambience, the soft music and decor is cool. The waiters were polite. Naan bread was very nice, the mushroom rice can be better. Rogan Josh was really good. Prawn curry was just there, I wasn't impressed with it. Papadums were really nice, with the mint sauce & mango chutney. The sparkling lemonade was really good too, would be better with a little vodka 😉 The wait time after ordering was about 30-40mins+ that's too long for me. Lovely place really, next time I'll just do takeout because the cost of eating in is like x2 of takeout.

I regret to share that my recent dining experience at this restaurant was highly unsatisfactory. The quality of the food was abysmal, and to make matters worse, the staff exhibited a shocking level of rudeness by making light of serving raw dishes. The pricing was exorbitant, nearly double what one would expect for such subpar offerings. I strongly advise against dining here due to the combination of terrible food, unprofessional staff, and excessively high prices. Your dining expectations would be better met elsewhere.

The food was relatively good but the price to eat in is extortionate. Our bill for 2 ppl, for popadums, starters and main meals incl rice and naan was almost £20 more than the takeout price. Wow, at that markup we wont be going back! Waiter also on twice cleared my plate away before my partner had finished his course. If your planning to eat in don't bank on paying the prices advertised on their website! Prepare for a shock! We will vote with our feet unfortunately, better food experiences can be had further down the same road.

They were busy as well- not so much eat in, the the phone did not stop ringing for takeaways. Only minor point is that the place is a bit shabby- I reckon it has not changed much since it opened in 80s… and I remember that! Does not affect the quality and service which were both very good.

As first time customers we did not find it that exciting and our friends thought it had gone slightly downhill. It was busy which is not a bad sign, our reservation was held though and the service was generally friendly and efficient. The food arrived at just the right time but the overall reaction was that our dishes were OK, but not much better than that. My biriani was advertised as having banana in it - different! But I did not expect a whole raw banana to be simply laid on top...? Chickpeas with cheese were good. The menu is quite a big one, it may that they should try doing 20% fewer dishes that little bit better in each cases this was not a dining experience to repeat in a hurry.Should add though that prices are fair and the whole establishment seemed extremely clean and tidy.

My partner and I arrived in Tavistock late after a long drive and were tired and hungry. As we were staying in an hotel very close by we decided to go for an Indian meal at the Ganges Restaurant. We were surprised that there was only one other couple in the restaurant on a Sunday evening. The welcome we received was non existent, totally lacking in any warmth and friendliness. We ordered poppadoms with the usual chutneys and onion to start with. We had almost finished this when we discovered a dead fly in the lime pickle!! We called the waiter over who mumbled a 'sorry' and took it away. As it was late and we had ordered the main course we decided to stay. The main course curries were mediocre at best with a lot of thin sauce and very few pieces of meat. The bill was presented to us silently, there was no proper apology or even an offer of a coffee on the house! The cost of two poppadoms was taken off the bill, - big deal! Not a good dining experience at all!

Had an awful experience at the Ganges, which was a shame as we were looking forward to a curry. First, it took ages to even have a drinks order taken, we had poppadoms before they asked us about drinks, by which time we ordered food and drinks together. We both had a pint of Coke. Waiter brings me (a woman) a pint with a straw and my partner (a man) a pint with no straw. I find this sexist and patronising. I asked why and the waiter said they usually bring the ladies a straw. Apparently being female makes me unable to drink with my actual mouth. Waiter got confused and then brought us a second straw. Fair enough. Starter came, no dramas. Then we waited AGES for our mains. It wasn't that busy, but we waited an hour and a quarter for our mains to arrive, which was just two different curries, a rice and a naan. Pretty standard. When they arrived, my rezalla was far too sweet, but we'd waited for so long I was too hungry to complain. The second curry (a bhuna) was nicer but not amazing. My partner asked for the bill and went to the toilet. I was paying. The waiter prepared the bill at the bar (with a rose for me) but waited for my partner to return to bring us the bill. Apparently as well as functioning mouth parts, I can't have my own funds. The waiter gave the bill to my partner and tried to present me with the rose with a smile. I said no thank you, and informed him that he doesn't need to wait for the man to return before bringing the bill. I paid and we left. All of this I found to be extremely patronising and sexist. No place for it in the 21st century. To top it all off, it was £51 for two curries, a shared starter, three cokes and a rice. Rip off. Won't be returning. Don't bother.
