Ma'ida in West Devon

This is an amazing restaurant with fabulous food and amazing value. We were a party of 28 that were staying at the Ashbury Manor and booked here for a little excursion. The welcome we received was fab and the food was really tasty and extremely good value. To serve so many without pre-ordering was impressive, too. We will be returning next year and won't hesitate to book again. Recommend this place to anyone.

We had an exceptional dining experience at this restaurant! The dishes were absolutely bursting with flavor. The service was attentive, friendly, and made us feel truly welcome. Great atmosphere. I can’t recommend this place enough for anyone who appreciates great food.

I recently dined at ma'ida and had a delightful experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it a great spot for both casual meals and special occasions. The menu offered a wide variety of traditional Indian dishes. I tried the honey chicken tikia , which was rich in flavor and perfectly spiced. The mi'ida sizzler special was equally impressive, showcasing fresh ingredients and authentic recipes. The naan was soft and paired well with the curries. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring our drinks were always filled. I left mi'ida feeling satisfied and eager to return. Whether you're a fan of Indian cuisine or new to it, this restaurant is worth a visit

Lovely food,excellent customer service,we have been ordering from this restaurant for long time and it’s always nice,amaze me everytime I order takeaway. I would say best food in Exeter. I do not know how people complain about Ma’ida’s food. Today I went to eat inside and the staff where really lovely. We tried their desserts gulap jamun it’s tasty.

I was taken here for a treat by my daughter and the food was very good indeed! We are both vegetarians so it is nice when you find a restaurant that does these dishes equally well and allows you to just order from the side dishes without insisting you order a main meal. The dips with the poppadums were also nice and fresh. It was a lovely meal. Wish we lived nearer!

It appears that this place has recently changed hands and a huge improvement at last a decent curry house in Oke thank you we will be back 👍

Hats off to the team at Maida. The food and the service were top notch. Came out for a meal with the team and Maida did not disappoint at all.

I went for curry last night which is the second time I’ve been here and it does not disappoint. It’s probably the best curry house I’ve been to and I have been to a lot over the years. I spoke with the manager who was absolutely faultless and attentive and I am now in the process of arranging for Ma’ida to cater for my wedding next year.

Lovely meal at Maida last night, service was excellent, the owner was amazing and allowed us to try his wife’s home made vegetable samosas for free and they were incredible! All food was outstanding and I cannot recommend this place enough! I wish I lived local as this would 100% be my favourite place to eat.

Spending a few days in the area on our way to meet friends. Popped in here for an early supper on Monday night. What a lovely treat! Excellent food, well presented, polite and friendly service and we felt very welcome. Great menu options to suit all tastes. Excellent value and will certainly visit again on our next visit to the area, have already recommended to friends who live in the area.

We came here after a long day of hiking and it was lovely. Music wasn't loud, food was full of flavour (we had veggie options) and the naan was *chef's kiss* (as was the lime pickle). The staff were nice, and they had good alcohol free beer options which was great for us non-drinkers. Good portions, good price.

Best curry I've had in a long time!

Super tender meat, cooked to perfection. The spices are great the mix grill was flavoursome. The mango chutney is so good! The star of the show is the peshwari naan. It's absolutely delicious.

Around twenty of my friends celebrated my birthday with my family and I at Maida. The food was fantastic and the staff provided unbelievable service, they could not do enough for us. We will definitely be revisiting next time we are in the area.

Delicious food, one of the best jalfrezis I've ever had. Service was very fast considering the size of the party. The staff were were very polite and friendly.

Had Seekh Kebab, Himalayan Flame Lamb, Garlic rice, Saag Bhaji. Others had Chicken Nagaria, Butter Chicken, Chicken nuggets, Peshwari and plain naans, Coconut rice. Everything perfect. Food, service and presentation.

We had a dine in today , the atmosphere was so quiet, there was no music ,normally everywhere have it And we asked for hot water but the water they gave was not even warm expect this the food was good and we like it. If you play a music in background that are suiy for resturant it would me nice.

By far one of the best takeaways we have experienced. We come to Dartmoor regularly and always look forward to a takeout from here. Good portion size, good flavour and the lamb is tender. Staff very friendly too. Can't wait for our next trip!

I dined with my husband and in-laws and everything was great as always. Shatkora lamb, lamb nagaria, garlic rice, coconut rice, garlic chilli & cheese naan - so flavoursome and fresh! Friendly but professional service made our night very comfortable, too. This is my favourite restaurant and I'm really looking forward to having lovely dishes. I wish we had their sister restaurant in Cambridge❤️

The waiter was very helpful in finding the best non dairy vegetable curry sauce based on my preferences of taste as well, including creating a vegan version of the peshwari naan after mentioning that I loved that flavour, and the chef delivered one of the best curry meals I've ever had :) It was lovely to be looked after this well, instead of being treated like an oddball or seen as potentially being difficult. Friend's straightforward vegetarian meal was also tasty. Would definitely recommend to others.

Food and service 5 star!! Family of four used to ordering our usuals but glad we didn’t this time. The spicing of the dishes were amazing, you could tell that the chef cooks from the heart. Nothing was greasy and the nahn breads were perfect with the nice charred bits and not too much butter. We will most definitely be returning!! Xx

I organised a meal for 18 people over the Easter weekend and the guys at Maida were brilliant - excellent service along with really good food at very reasonable prices. I'd be very happy to go back again.

Visited from london. The food was excellent on point, great taste. Orderd takeaway, lamb nagari was amazing. Food came really quick and was piping hot just the way i like my food.

I was amongst a walk group. We had our evening meal there. The young waiter gave excellent customer services. The other staff were nice. The food was so tasty. We will come again to Oakhampton from the midlands and pay a visit again one day

This is wonderful restaurant with fantastic service. The food is something else. It was fantastic. Fresh vegetables and fruit cooked in the most scintillating spices. I have eaten in many Indian restaurants in my time and this ranks as one of the best. We'll be back again very soon. Oh and the ginger tea is just astonishing. We couldn't stop smiling. Very polite & patient, food delicious & good service. One star lost because my friend had to ask for some back ground music, & the restaurant is too warm when you're sat so close together & eating spicy food! 🔥( Not just me, 4 others were too warm too). When I book again, I will mention it to them, no good being a typical Brit about these things - if they don't know, they can't fix it! 😊

By far the best Indian I have ever had in the United Kingdom, have visited from Brighton for a long weekend and came here with a friend who used to live here and it is the same chef from 11 years previously. Lovely staff, very friendly and absolutely incredible food. it will be very difficult to find another Indian restaurant in this country that is as good as this place. Such a shame don’t live closer but should I come back to this lovely town? I will definitely come here for sure.

Loved our meal, only a few people in the restaurant at 18:30 so can't give full marks for atmosphere. We'll definitely go again, good value, unlicensed so take your own. Takeaway service very busy.

Christmas family get together Tried Spoons but unable to find seats for all. So was going home to order Chinese, but walked past this restaurant and asked if they could accommodate 9 The answer was yes We had the best meal ever,not one complaint from any of us. Everything we asked for arrived at just the right time and if you wanted it spicer or hotter or a mushroom Nam bread !! It was not a problem. Thanks to the staff and chef that cooked are meal that night Shame they still dont have no alcohol licence. Its been years

Went on Saturday Evening, shared some poppadoms to start, then enjoyed 2 delicious curries, lovely spicy sauces and soft succulent chicken with a rice and bread. Top notch. BYOB was great, wish more restaurants would do this! Great evening with attentive staff. Definitely recommend.

as an indian Me & my husband we love authentic indian food,i think we had the best curry in devon.after struggling to find halal restaurants we found Maida in okehampton.staff are very friendly,foods delicious & fresh.we strongly recommend Maida for indian food.we will visit again.

The staff are welcoming, service is prompt, and the food surpasses that of other nearby takeout options. While it can be a bit quiet indoors at times, I believe that as more people discover the charm and great food here, this will likely improve.

Just ordered our first takeaway from Maida. It’s amazing. Delivery service was amazing arrived on time. Will definitely be ordering from them again. Forgot to take photos as it looked and tasted too good.

I just had a fantastic curry from here. They delivered in a good time within an hour of me placing the order. The delivery driver was friendly and polite and the food was amazing. I ordered Prawn Dansak and Lamb Madras. Both dishes were excellent and up there with the best I have ever had. I thoroughly recommend this place. I was staying at Whiddon Down Travelodge and they delivered.

I simply cannot understand the negative reviews for this restaurant. My husband, adult son and myself are staying for the week in Sticklepath and our hosts recommended Maida - we're so glad we tried it for ourselves! As soon as we walked through the doors, we received a warm welcome and the service was attentive and friendly. As for the food - the head waiter carefully listened to our questions and recommended some excellent dishes. Very highly recommended.

Lovely staff, great food. The portions were perfect sizes for us. And even after a one hour drive the food was hot. And it’s even halal. 10/10

Took my partner here and not into Indian food myself however they have changed my opinion now. They advised me what food would be good with some things I don’t eat and gave me a great recommendation. Had 3 gents looking after us and where all fantastic.

Went to this place yesterday and food was good. If you are looking for a Halal option this can be the place in OKehampton as confirmed by the owner that they sourced meat from halal supplier. Portion size were small but good enough for 4 of us. Daal and garlic rice were tasty. Nice place to have a family meal after a long day out.

Food was ok but less in quantity. Too much added coloring. Our hands and tissues were fully yellow. Shockingly they charged for pappadoms and dips which is supposed to be complementary. Or should have been added to the menu.Serving staff was ok, manager was not welcoming. More than review their concentration is on charging pappadoms and dips. On top of that they give bills in writing. With great expectations on our way from cornwall we travelled miles to try Indian cuisine, but everything was in vain. Will never visit here again and won't recommend it to anyone.

We had 2 chicken biriyani ,started with 2 papadams, they served dips as well. The Food was ok, comparatively very less quantity. Food had too much added coloring.They charged for dips and papadam which was not usual. I won’t eat from here again and I hesitate to recommend it.

Food has always been the best in oke however their website allows you to pick a time for deliver which we picked 5:10 we called an hour after ordering to be told their delivery drivers don’t start until 6…. Please sort this out.

Delicious food and good service. I had the chicken Kashmiri which I’ve not seen many other Indian Restaurants do. It was sweet and had a complex flavour, most authentic version I’ve had since visiting India. Waiters were very nice- you can ask for a more authentic version if you want it and anything can be made vegetarian. I don’t agree with the previous review which said the food was greasy- my rice and naan were fresh and well seasoned. I’d definitely recommend eating here and I will be back.

First time visit based on the high Trip Adviser rating having always gone to the other Indian in Okehampton. I had the tikka biryani. The texture of the chicken was slightly odd, but more of an issue was that rather than the whole dish being cooked together with nicely flavoured rice, the rice must have been fried separately and was coated in grease - think pilau rice fried in orange fat. It was also really salty as was the veg curry that came with it. The brinjal bhajee was similarly swimming in grease. None of the food was particularly flavoursome. Upset stomach when I got home. The menu has a vast number of dishes on it - they would be far better off slashing the number of dishes and cooking them well. Payment in cash was pretty much demanded at the end with the waiter peering into my wallet - very odd. As someone else commented, I wish I had just gone to Weatherspoons!

Excellent Indian restaurant that does the classics very well and a range of chef’s specials which are superb. Beautiful naans and side dishes. Friendly staff. Would certainly make a regular, if I lived here.

I am so grateful to maidha indian for their service last night for my wife 50th birthday celebration. We were welcome at 5pm to set up Birthday balloons, 50th serviettes and table decorations. I was able to leave our beer and wine in a fridge nearby and a cake in another room, ready to be lit and brought out later in the evening. We had a table for 12 of us. The food was delicious (served to all 12 of us at once) and the service impeccable. Highly recommend for everyone.

What a shame this place used to be great. Food pretty bland, nothing special. Despite the hair in our lime pickle the place generally needs a clean. No soap in toilets to wash hands. Rice and naan bread were very good but curry basic. Waiter quite demanding that we (and in fact the table next to us) paid cash and unhappy about customers paying their bill by card which seems a little strange these days.

We happen to stumble across this hid gem, food was great and so was the service. Highly recommend. We would definitely be coming back

If you like any heat in your curry - avoid this place. Used to be wonderful, but an early evening meal this week was totally disappointing. The waiter explained that 'people don't like their food too spicy' and if we wanted something hotter, we should ask for it. No 'chilli' signs on the menu. Tomato flavour predominates. I chose a coconut-based dish and knew it would be mild, but nothing we ate had any depth, warmth or spice. Right now I am enjoying a standard supermarket ready meal curry which is beautifully spicy - so I don't buy the idea that the local palate doesn't like spicy food. To be avoided.

Enjoyed a lovely meal here last week. Delicious fresh tasty food. Thursday night is Banquet night so you get a starter, main, side, and coffee/icecream for £13.95. AMAZING value! Plus you can take your own vino 🙂 Would recommend.
