Nice local pub with a good choice of drinks, friendly staff and nice locals make for a good chat. Sit outside when it’s nice ☀️ 👍 a few changes over the last few years 2021 onwards. Prices go up with a change of owner it seems ? No food but a nice arrangement with a local takeaway which looks like it works ok,dogs allowed but I’d be happier if the staff or owners Would keep them off the seats ! Not nice when your sitting next to one and it decides to shake Hair all over you and your beer 🤮 they also smell a bit so keep them on the floor.staff could also be a bit more vigilant about customers smoking vapes in the bar ! 🚭 but enough negative stuff they also have live music on Sundays which is very good 👍 🎶 🎺 🎸

I'm a little fed up with being asked by Google to review this place as I've never been in it. I suspect the reason why I'm being asked to review it, is because I happened to be stopped at a red traffic light just outside it whilst on my way back to the office, after purchasing four cod loin fillets from Eddie's the fishmongers. However, in the spirit of good will, I've decided to highly recommend this establishment to anyone who happens to be in the vicinity, in the sincere hope that it is found to be highly satisfactory in fulfilling your food and drink refreshment needs.

After a busy day in Edinburgh we arrived at our Airbnb late and understandably there weren't any places nearby for a sit-in meal on a Thursday night. The girl serving in Earl of Marchmont was more than happy for us to bring in food from one of the local takeaways as long as it wasn't chips due to the smell of fried foods. She said we could bring in food from the neighbouring pizza place, Chinese or the Thai restaurant which she recommended. We sat happily catching up with a friend and ate our food while enjoying their ale of the month and an espresso martini. Lovely.

All was going well with our overall experience of this Marchmont watering hole until one of the patrons had the sheer audacity to whap out a Tupperware lunchbox and chomp into what appeared to be a ham and cheese square sliced sandwich. We're talking mighty white slices here not even farmhouse and I could be wrong but the ham may have had bear faces on them, the cheese was definitely of the Kraft variety. Had it not been for his wonderfully delightful company this would have been a mere 2 star rating.

Went in tonight between 8-9pm Friday 26th of January 2018 . Barmaid spilled beer all over the place which got on my jacket however she only bothered apologizing to the affluent looking couple seated in the bar not to me the customer who had to pay for the eventual pint and I don't have the money to get it dry cleaned or buy another one on a fancy. She also mucked up a second pint but no grace or apology to the actual mug who was paying for it. The bar supervisor looked like a real space cadet. Dressed like he was auditioning for a revival of Waynes World or something like that. Certainly not the kind of attire you would expect in a bar that try's come across as being a posh local boozer. No ownership of the situation. A typical modern boozer in Merchmont which summs up the devoid psyche of modern Edinburgh in a nutshell. I agree with other reviewers the service varies in a snobbish way. I wouldn't be surprised if it was English owned.

The Earl of Marchmont is one of the fine establishments in my local area, it is the kind of place where you can go to have a quiet nights drink, catch-up with girlfriends or to start a big night off at. My favourite thing about the pub, is the cocktails, as mostly all of them are on their cocktail menu are five pounds. And the one's I've had in the past have been most delicious, tangy and the alcohol subtle enough to not make you swoon, but strong enough tasting so you know that you do have an adults drink in your hand. I've never tried the food, but all the pub faves are their.

The worst food experience I have ever had. I never normally go into much detail as this in a review but I think it is important for others to know. I recently dined at Brehewmia and unfortunately, it was not a great experience. Literally every dish had no flavour. We ordered the pretzels and the pork belly for starter. For mains, the fish and chips and the chicken schnitzel. The cheese sauce that came with the pretzel and schnitzel was lacking any real flavour—neither cheesy nor savoury—and I had to add salt and pepper just to get any taste out of it. The pork belly was a big letdown: just three small pieces served with a cheap-tasting mustard sauce, paper-thin apple slices, and a few garnish leaves that didn’t make it feel like a proper dish. Without the sauce, the pork belly tasted of literally nothing. It looked nice but the portion size was awful for £10. The gherkins were another disappointment— impossibly thin and tasted like they had only been pickled that morning. They were closer to cucumbers. Somehow, the fish was so bland that it might have been the most flavourless dish I’ve ever encountered, which is saying something. I’ve never seen fish naturally as tasteless as that in my life. Even if you don’t season fish it usually taste better than what was served to me, it’s like they somehow managed to extract the fish flavour! The tartar sauce was barely more than bland mayonnaise. Very cheap. With food you can usually smell it - all of our dishes didn't have any smell from it. The schnitzel was tough as a boot, crispy in parts but the texture was off: the top and bottom were mushy, and it fell apart like poorly cooked chicken. Its pale colour only added to the bland presentation. The chips were the best part, though I still needed to salt them. As for the schnitzel’s cheese topping, it was like eating Parmesan that had been left at the bottom of a frying pan after you made a meal, and you came back later to eat it—oily, greasy, and not intentionally part of the dish. The “crisped Parmesan” just tasted like scraps. The piece of Parma ham (or whatever it was) on top added nothing of value. The waitresses were nice, but the service wasn't that good. Multiple waitresses approached us too often asking us the same questions - felt very rushed. One asked if we were finished our food whilst we were still eating. They should focus on improving the quality of their food rather than the aesthetics. Overall, I left feeling genuinely sad, disappointed and very cheated by the experience, having paid almost £85.
