Be warned, this pub operates a flawed system of table reservations (never known this in a wet led pub like this as it’s not a food / gastro pub) . Watching the European football on the tv (no audio) and mid way through the first half, we were a table of 5 people, we were all abruptly told to vacate the table by a stern looking staff member. No alternative tables offered, we were just told to stand up and the only space left to stand was literally touch tight to the seat Id been sitting in for an hour. The bar staff had failed to place the reservation notice on the table, as it was left behind the bar, which was clearly their problem not ours, but as the football match was on we gave up the table & left the premises to go to the pub closer to the station which was a lot better in customer service and had better seating to watch the match on tv.

Great atmosphere, went for the Liverpool game, great spot, every time we go there it is great

I have frequented Malones on various occasions and always enjoyed the experience. Upstairs they show sporting events and host live bands. Great atmosphere.

No commentary on the football because the rugby was on in 2 hours time. Made absolutely no sense. Struggle to get to and from bar and hard to try and get served. As it was too busy

Good bar but don't expect to get a seat unless you reserve. FYI just book a table for whatever time you like and the staff will keep the table free regardless of what time you actually show up

Manager (short kinda blonde) and waiter (faded sort of mullet) were incredibly unreasonable and rude on the 19th of February 2025. A few friends and me were trying to watch the Real Madrid game and they refused to put the audio because "not enough people were watching it" but in reality half of the pub was. Liverpool was playing a bit earlier so prioritizing that game is understandable. But they didn't even put the audio in the break, they prefered to simply put shitty generic music. Also, extremely overpriced beer and no food.

Came here after the rugby for their Super Bowl party. Can’t remember leaving the place but met a ton of friendly folk and the staff were very friendly too. Glad I got the tickets! Any Murphy’s on tap! 😍

We zijn hier twee avonden tijdens ons verblijf geweest. De eerste avond stonden we beneden maar zei een man dat we beter naar boven konden gaan en dat was echt top. Er was live muziek, vriendelijk personeel en betaalbare drankjes. We waren in Edinburgh voor oudjaarsavond maar omdat alles afgelast was vanwege de wind. Zijn we op oudjaarsavond hier geweest. Het was gezellig druk en er hing echt een goede sfeer. Combinatie van live muziek en wat oude hitjes. We hebben een top avond gehad!

This was recommended by google when we were trying to see bars & restaurants around the area where we stayed at, bought a couple of drinks had a good ambiance & good choice of music. If you dont want a busy hour early afternoon as it gets busier in the night but cant complain if its recommendable 😉

Cozy pub just outside the old town of Edinburgh. There is a bar with tables downstairs, very cozy. There is also a large hall upstairs, which feels very cozy and often has live music. Worth repeating.

Buzzing atmosphere on a Friday night. Their Monkey Shoulder whiskey is great - very smooth. Food option seems to be pizza ordered via QR code, delivered to table. Toilets upstairs. (Another room upstairs: function room?)

Regular pub with some beers on tap. I saw food pictures in the reviews, but when I came to the pub there was no food available, instead of it there was an option to order a pizza from a pizzeria they deal with and it will be delivered to the bar to your table.

This is a great large pub with a great atmosphere serving a great range of drinks by very good staff,there is ample seating available inside also outside,there is great live music some evenings and live sporting events are shown on large screens,there is a great mix of very friendly locals and tourists,the whole area is very safe and clean.

Classic Scottish pub, with a nice atmosphere and lots of good beers. Very popular, it offers a warm and lively atmosphere, with sociable people dancing and singing. Very pleasant for a beer in company or even alone, you can also watch various sports competitions.

8 of us at a table for 3 hours , told we had to move abruptly because it was booked but their was no reservation on our table , weather it fell or was misplaced I found it very unprofessional in their approach no warnings just move now an no liability on there side , I would have sooner the removed us from the premises rather than leave us just standing like idiots

We gave 3 hrs sitting at a table, spent over £250 on drinks and food, only to be told that the table was reserved and that we had to move.. no apologies and no sign on the table stating that it was reserved.. would definitely not give them any business again

Had tables booked in the upstair area of Malones again for a works leaving night. Had asked to keep tables all night as were meeting at 3pm and planned to stay for the live music at night which we had done on our previous 3 visits last year. However we were very disappointed to be told to leave our tables at 7 pm due to other people using them. Really disappointing especially when we've always put the request on our booking to keep the tables on our previous visits and it's never been an issue before Ended up leaving and going elsewhere as wasn't great having to stand about holiday coats, bags and drinks etc Wine quite expensive and doesn't even taste too nice either.

Great spot, good vibes, friendly staff and pizza can be delivered straight to your table. The pizza was great but not completely the kind of pizza I like. I think it was the Super Mario I had, still evidently fresh ingredients.

This place sadly went from being one of the last bastions of real working class drinking dens in the citycentre with sticky carpets, tradesmen in work gear and bad language to go with the rustic all round feel and its now just another plastic paddy bar with no redeeming features.
