Excellent service and, considering the restrictions caused by space and layout on the barge, the food also was excellent. Highly recommended and we will be back!

Having passed by the sign so many times I had time to turn off. Weather was not great and I arrived early - 11.45. However reading the entertaining info outside I braved it into the cosy and welcoming interior, met by super friendliness and a tired dog. I sat up onboard for nachos and a beer. Tranquility and beauty all around. My advice is don’t drive by. Stop and enjoy. I won’t drive by again !

I do like it when people take constructive criticism well, particularly when they don’t have the facts they claim to have Can I suggest that if you want to review CCTV to look at what happened it might be worth getting the correct day. when we tried your wonderful boat it was pouring with rain and there was nobody outside We were not advised to order at the bar , it would have been nice to at least get some recognition that we actually existed To be fair we did get some recognition from the staff, the dog was most inquisitive As for returning, why would we want to miss the opportunity to meet such a witty well mannered owner who values honest feedback

This converted barge is wonderfully quirky (sorry, it's the most appropriate word to use here!). The welcome starts at the door where two lovely friendly old rescue dogs greet you (they're then disinterested and leave you alone whilst eating). Inside is full of nautical memorabilia and a great selection of old 70's rock playing in the background (clearly they knew I was coming!). Had a dinner of a gloriously slow-cooked lamb and a few pints of well-tended beer. And service from Victoria was spot-on. Lovely place and I wish it had been the summer so I could have sat on the tables on top and watched the sunset over the loch.

This was a great experience and well worth a visit. The food and service was brilliant and we were made to feel very welcome! Both dogs are lovely and even for people who are not keen on dogs (we love them), they do leave you alone whilst you are eating! To be fair anyone who likes a drink, the barge had a better selection then most of the other pubs we had visited along the canal. The food was lovely and I would certainly recommend the balmoral chicken. However, even though it was tasty if they say their curries are hot, they certainly mean it!!

It's the only place at Laggan Locks to get food and drink. Barge repurposed and very quirky. Two dogs "welcome" you which frankly I do not like. Interior is a mix of everything but it's comfortable enough. The food was surprisingly good and the service pleasant and efficient. On a nice day it would be better to use the tables and chairs on the deck.

We can't comment on the food as we weren't able to get any, as no room at the Inn! (Barge). We tried to book our food on the day for fine dining as required, or so we thought, before 3pm. We phoned at about 11am explaining that we were a party of 7 on a boat travelling on the Caledonian canal. We were told it was already fully booked, but we could have meals in the bar between 5.30pm and 8.30pm. We had read that it was cash only and were prepared for that. We arrived at Laggan Locks in the pouring rain and wind at about 4pm, for our last night before returning the boat to base the other side of the locks. Because of the wind, the lockkeeper wouldn't let any boats through until morning. Never mind, we thought. We are moored just opposite the barge. It looked a bit more run down than the photos, but to be fair, that may have been due to the weather! Promptly at 5.30 pm we arrived at the barge with our party of 7. Four of the 7 are disabled to a degree, but we managed, with a struggle to negotiate the lock bridge and path to the barge. I went down first to discover the tiny, quirky bar was full and the small restaurant empty, but with reserved tables. There were a few tall bar seats, and a couple of high seats behind with a shelf. There were 2 low tables full of drinkers, and the bar maid said that they were there for the night. The rest of our wet disheveled party arrived only to have to turn around and struggle back to our boat. One of our parties walked over to their car at base and drove to Fort Augustus, returning with a delicious Chinese take-away, so all was not lost. Basically, our complaint is that it needs to be made clear how small the bar area is, and clearer on how to book the tiny restaurant for fine dining. We could have booked a week ahead had we known that that was allowed, as we arrived on the Monday before and found it was closed on Mondays. Also surely, when we phoned and were told about bar meals, we should have been pre-warned, that in inclement weather, the bar wouldn't accommodate 7 people for bar meals. I am expecting a sarcastic response after reading all the other responses to negative reviews, but this is just meant to prewarn people of the size of the barge for eating/drinking if the weather is wet and/ or cold. There are literally about 6 high seats, that we could see, not suitable for disabled and the rest are 2 low tables for drinking and relaxing in the bar area. Also, I am hoping I haven't made any typos, as the manager picks people up on that! He even said it was poor grammar when someone left an e off one! I wouldn't want to try to return here with such uncaring, supercilious and sarcastic management. Poor staff. Everywhere else we have eaten in our week on the canals, we have been treated with good food, great service and respect.

We booked a meal here on the final evening of a cruise on the Caledonian Canal. Several friends recommended the Eagle Inn and we were not disappointed! Luckily we had booked well in advance to be sure of a table for an evening meal and we were provided with a lovely menu which we had to choose from by 3pm on the day of our meal. We had a few drinks there on the afternoon of our booking and were welcomed warmly. When we arrived later for our meal our drinks order was taken quickly and we were shown to our table where our meal was served straight away. The generous portions were delicious and we can recommend the trout, Balmoral chicken and curries. The Barge is uniquely decorated and is extremely warm and welcoming as are the staff. Thank you, we will be back!

This is an experience to catch when walking the Great Glen Way. How do they manage such well-kept beer on a boat I wondered, then stopped worrying and enjoyed looking at all the weird and wonderful bits and pieces around me.

We only had a tea/coffee here but it was a really good place to stop as we cycled the Caledonian canal - there isn’t a lot of choice in the route!!! Outside was good but inside the barge was fascinating. Well worth a stop if...

We visit the Larder each summer on our west coast trips. We opted for two savoury and two sweet pies to takeaway. One smoked haddock and cheese sauce, one chicken and haggis with sauce, one peach and apricot and one apple and blackcurrant. The smoked haddock pie was amazing, the best ever. The pastry was lovely too. I’ll definitely keep my eye out for this tasty pie on future visits. The chicken and haggis pie was lovely too, both pies moist and packed with filling, great sauces in them. I’m not keen on sweet pies but we enjoyed them too. The peach and apricot pie was perfect for me. Price wise the savoury pies are about right for the weight. No shortage of fish and meat in them.

A star on the north coast and a must visit. Gorgeous views over the Kyle from the outside seating. Family run with great service and great chat, the food was fantastic. We had lunch and had to add the sundae to celebrate the sunny day.

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

Dirty tables. Dirty menus. My daughter was served a mouldy panini. Cheese in panini was plastic. Very dry tasteless cheese scone. Drinks not too bad.

It was such a pleasure to visit this cafe and a welcome contrast to the pre-paid accommodation ran by some racketeer at Ivy Cottage. We took one look at what was on offer and fled to next ferry to Mallaig. I went to school in Inverie in 1948- 49. when the priest had an affair with our teacher. He wnt on to become bishop of the Westrn Isles while she became an un-married mother
