I used to love this cafe, it was always a special place for me. However, recently, I have noticed a serious decline in the quality of their food and drinks. I was served cream that had clearly gone off, it was curdled and had a strong smell of cheese. This makes me question the freshness of their other ingredients. The milk in my tea was also clearly past its prime, which I only realized after taking a sip. It was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. I urge anyone considering visiting this cafe to either steer clear or proceed with extreme caution. This place is in serious need of a change. The staff were dressed in a sloppy and unprofessional manner, engaging in casual and unpolished conversations that made it seem like they were simply hanging out with friends rather than serving customers. The lack of natural politeness and customer service was evident, and it left a sour taste in my mouth. It's disappointing to see such a decline in the overall atmosphere and service of this once-special place.

Would not recommend don’t waste your money. Was made to feel unwelcome from the start told to pay my bill upfront which I found strange ,I asked the waiter why other people can pay there bill afterwards and I have to pay upfront he said I’m only getting told to by my dad so this left me feeling victimised and surly should be one rule for all I was there with my mum and auntie and actually felt very embarrassed Also the food was terrible very oily greasy chips , panini was not toasted and cheese not melted , hair in food I honestly couldn’t be bothered to complain I just know I will never go back there again! Shame as the location is great that’s the only positive

Called in for Cream tea in their sunny garden. It was well over half empty and it still took about 25 minutes to be served. 2 small scones each and a pot of tea to share. It says their own strawberry jam on the hoarding but unfortunately it was a runny sauce from a very small jar which made the scone soggy . Will we visit again no

Six of us decided to have lunch Friday 12th July and visited here having read the reviews. The menu is limited anyway but they had run out of two dishes to which five of our party ordered. Having taken our order the waitress returned to ask us to choose diffrent dishes.. We tried to reorder but struggled. The meals took over an hour to arrive, they were mixed up.and indelible and dried up. We were given a 50% discount but realistically we were still charged too much. One of our part was diabetic and needed to eat but their meal was so poor, it all went back. Two women on an adjacent table ordered sandwiches but sent them straight back when they arrive. The cafe seemed to be struggling for staff but to be running out of main ingridients as we were at the beginning of the weekend seemed bizarre. Several of our party commented it was tye worst meal they had ever had when dinning out

Delicioso.

We came Along to this cafe to have a cream tea before my son went off to London...The staff were friendly and I paid for 2 cream Teas. What a disappointment when the arrived, the scone were the smallest scones I had ever seen! Bite size would of been an understatement to say the least. Not only were they small, they-must had been warmed up in the microwave which changed it entire texture, or if they hadn’t then I suggest you change the recipe.I myself do not enjoy warm scones unless they are cheese! We were not asked if we wanted warm or cold scones. I do not like to write a bad review, but may I suggest that your scones are bigger in size than 2.5” by 2.5”, which believe I have been generous with numbers, and that you ask the customer if they want warm scones, not reheated ones, or cold.

The cream was very dry and the jam was like it had come from a jar of value brand supermarket rubbish. The tea went cold quickly as neither the teapot lid or hot water pot lid would close. They were bent and not very clean looking. My cup was stained but was told that it happens sometimes but it's clean. On paying the expensive bill we didn't have the exact change and the girl made sure we knew she wasn't happy. Staff couldn't care less about customer service it appeared. After visiting some wonderful cafes/restaurants and street vendors this was a huge disappointment and it felt like visitors really were not welcome.

There was obviously not enough staff, the tables were sticky and dirty and not cleared away, and the outside area looked like it needed a good tidy clean up. The girl pouring the pint used a knife to skim off the head into another glass as she didn't have time to wait for it to settle and the glass was passed over the counter sticky and dripping. It does not look like any effort is put into keeping the place looked after which is such a shame as it has lovely views. Grubby would be a good description for the place.

However, by waiting, we eventually managed to claim a table in the open air. There was only a short queue but the way the staff were operating things, it took me 20 minutes to place my order. There appeared to be 4 staff on duty but the counter seemed to be relying upon 1 person. Just before I was to be served, this person had to leave the counter unattended with no explanation. I was served on her return and she had to take my order and serve the teas before the next person was served. The remainder of the order (the scone, jam and cream) was brought to our table by 1 of the other staff. The tea and scones were good but the service was poorly organised and the wait excessive.

As always we ordered crab salad, portion of chips and chunky bread, the waitress said about 30 minute wait, but it came after 10 mins. It was presented well on the plate and look appetising. In 15 years we have never been disappointed. Staff were really nice with a smile. Always a pleazure to eat here.

Visited in mid August and due to unsettled weather conditions we sat inside. We were a bit disappointed by the décor which seems to be need of some TLC. It was quite off-putting that the loos are so close to the kitchen. The cold water tap in the gents' loo was broken. Only one loo for the gents - so it might be a bit busy there on a day with more customers. The food was ok but really nothing special. The so-called rustic Italian rolls were bland and disapointing and the portion I had (filled rustic Italian roll) was quite small. The staff was friendly and welcoming though. But I shall not return.

Over the last 22 years, we have been enjoying the many pleasures of visiting the UK, and cream tea is but one. Today we had one of the best cream teas ever (as far as taste). The scones were perfect in flavor, texture, and each was baked to a golden color. The clotted cream was fresh and generous, and the "Janny" strawberry jam was delicious. I asked what "Janny" means and the owner(?) said it means - native to Plymouth. Trust me, you will not be disappointed in this cream tea served at Duttons, located down by the wharf. We will go back to try other menu offerings, too.

Good warm and friendly ambience. The menu is very varied and all sorts of suitable lunchtime favourites are on offer. There are 4 main meals to choose from as well.A lovely situation and in fine weather there is nice shaded garden to sit in,dine and drink in the view.I live locally and from previous walks I have noted that the cafe is very well patronised

Terrific sitting out with a phenomenal view of the harbor.Beer was excellent, wine was okay, chips were the best we've had in Britain. Service was above & beyond expectations. This was our second time here in 2 days & it just kept getting better.

Lovely views over Plymouth Sound, ideal place for a pitstop on a walk around the Hoe. On a sunny day the view is second to none.

I've past Duttons many times but this was the first (and I hope the start of many) visit to Duttons. Set on what was part of the original Citadel and having stunning views of the Tamor, it was the inside decor that I loved: a ship's mast being used as a set of ceiling lights! Quite brilliant. I tucked in to a delicious cod, chips and peas dinner, while missus was being kept happy by her demanding dogs being allowed in and had free doggie treats while she herself had this rather odd tasting veggie fish meal (apparently made from some cheese with batter) served by quite possibly the friendliest staff in a restaurant ever. So after our meal I took our empty plates to just outside the kitchen and they were very grateful for that.

I visited here on a hot sunny day with a friend. Everyone was sat outside at tables crowded under one big shade. We managed to get the last table under the shade. The rest of the garden was empty as all the tables were in full sun. Menus were outside for you to peruse, then order and pay inside. You are then given a wooden spoon with your order number on. I had the prawns in marie rose sauce in a rustic Italian roll and my friend the bacon and brie in a malted brown roll. These were served with side salad. My roll was very nice and the bread good. I don't think my friend was too keen on her bread roll but ate the bacon and brie inside it.When I went inside to order, the drinks fridge had broken down and all the drinks were laid out on a table to one side. The top part of the fridge still had cakes on plates wrapped in cling film but the bottom of the fridge was empty and dirty. I didn't think this looked very hygienic.I think the inside of the café could do with updating as it looks fairly basic as do the tables outside. It is in a nice spot and with some sprucing up could be much better. My review score reflects the décor and cleanliness of the restaurant rather than the food.

Dropped in to try the infamous 'Veggie' fish and chips - Korev beer battered halloumi with chips and mushy peas and boy it was out of this world! Great friendly service, really generous portion sizes and surely one of the best views in Plymouth.

Lovely local cider, cream teas, ice-creams and cakes served by super friendly multilingual staff. I heard several languages being spoken inside and outside. Nice setting but most of the outside tables don't get a sea view as they are sloped downwards away from the sea wall towards the cafe building. It can't be helped and this place has a good thing going on, but on a stunning day I'd go elsewhere to ensure a sea view

We have visited here many times, especially when the sun is shinning. Sitting in the outside area looking at the view over Plymouth sound is great. We nearly always have the Chilli Nachos which are highly recommended and never fail to deliver. Freshly cooked and a very good size portion.Staff are always friendly and happy to help.Roll on the summer :-)
