My daughter and I booked dinner at The Olive Tree Restaurant in The Durrant House Hotel in Bideford. When we arrived the restaurant was very busy and our table was in the bar instead, which suited us both better to be honest. We were served by John-Paul for the whole time we were there and he was so friendly and helpful and we cannot speak highly enough about him. Nothing was too much trouble and he kept us informed about each course while we were there. We both ate from the Specials Menu which was dinner and dessert for £14.50. Our roast dinners were delicious and so were our puddings. We had a great time and will definitely be booking again very soon.

We were a party of 4 who booked to have Sunday Lunch in The Olive Tree Restaurant. The meal was wonderful, plentiful and hot, a special thank you also to the restaurant staff who looked after us really well. After inquiring I was told the beef was from a local butchers shop. I can't believe we were also given a FREE dessert all included in the £12.50 special. We all enjoyed so much we have booked Christmas Day Lunch too.

We stayed in this hotel and used the Olive Tree restaurant for the two days we were there. Food was excellent and staff very attentive. Spotlessly clean.

Ate here with the February valentines offer. The restaurant is olde worlde style but comfortable and elegant. The lady waitress was excellent. The best service I have received for a while. Thank you. The meal was good. Steaks were okay quality (given the special deal we got) and the rest of the meal was good. The desserts were yummy. Also, the older (? Italian) waiter at the bar was very helpful too. My sister being a local recommended it for afternoon teas too. 11/10 for the lovely staff. 8/10 for food.

Never come here. If you have sense you have read the 1 star reviews and seen this and saved yourself 50 pound or more. Everything is cooked from frozen. No flavour no taste. I feel sick don’t come here

Very poor service and the food pretty poor as well great lack of any seasoning and not very well cooked either. Also plastic covered menus were not being cleaned after being re-sent out, salt and pepper pots were dirty!! Would definitely not eat there again.

Advertised as fine dining and had a reasonable choice on the menu. However, on turning up, we weren't too hopeful, having being told we had to book but were one of 2 tables in the restaurant! The starters were lovely and lifted our expectations for the rest of the meal. The majority of the main courses were "ok", but not fine dining (not considering the hair which was found in one meal and hot salad on another). However, the 3 cheese pizza, advertised as 'mouthwatering for the cheese lover' was in fact a frozen Chicago Town pizza. And it actually was, because we asked! On questioning this, the chef had "left", (we can only assume out of embarrassment) and the "acting deputy manager" was simply rude. Apparently he didn't have authority to only charge us a generous offer to pay £5 for the pizza (£2 in Tesco!!!), so in his continued rude manner said he would pay for it out of his own pocket. A very odd response when being challenged on how they could charge £15 for a £2 pizza.. apparently the £13 was for the cost of the oven! Needless to say, we won't be back!

Our daughter booked a table at The Olive Tree as a present for our Wedding Anniversary. We were originally going to have a Cream Tea, but decided to have dinner instead and I am so glad that we did! My husband had Hunters Chicken and I had Spaghetti Bolognese and we both agreed it was the best meal we have had in a restaurant. The lady who looked after us was delightful and very friendly, efficient and helpful. We were so impressed that we booked a table then and there for my Birthday. If you are looking for somewhere to eat in and around Bideford then I highly recommend you try it out.

Good choice of food although specials board could do with changing more often. Restaurant itself is a nod to the Orient Express in styling.

We chose this restaurant because it was advertised as Fine Dining with an A La Carte menu. In reality it was Pub Fayre at best and disappointing. The menu had dishes such as burgers, scampi and chips and so on. The only sauces you were going to get was the ketchup kind. It was fine if you like pub food in a decent setting, but it certainly was not Fine Dining. We had dressed up for the occasion but found ourselves surrounded by other customers wearing shorts, t-shirts, jeans and trainers which is not the etiquette you would expect in a Fine Dining restaurant. We mentioned politely to the Manager that the experience was not Fine Dining and that we were disappointed but he seemed a bit in-different. Beware, the plastic laminated menus are being used and re-used contrary to Covid-19 precautions.

We ate as a family for my wife's birthday. The website is misleading - it says that it is "fine dining" and that it offers "elegant dining with dishes from our fine a la carte and grill menus".It definitely isn't and doesn't - I will attach photos of the plastic covered menus we were given to illustrate this. We ate fish and chips, steaks and lamb - all adequate if we'd been in a down market pub but nothing as promised on the web site. The prices were incredible for what we had. The Olive Tree is inside of a hotel called Durrant House and is probably more about catering for hotel guests on packages. The decor is bizarre with no sign of the promised " Victorian candlelit charm" and while we were there there was a water leak into the restaurant dealt with by leaving a bucket and towels on the floor to catch the water - photo attached. All in all pretty dreadful and disappointing - and one to avoid

Website mentions fine dining in candlelight. More like a Berni Inn under floodlights. Totally wrong impression portrayed on website, so much so that Trading standards would be interested. Plastic menu cards given during current C-19 situation and salt/pepper not cleaned after a table is vacated. Stiff garlic bread served with mussels and steak would make a good frisbee due to its rigidity. Poor experience, never to be repeated (thankfully). Hope this informs others

Me my partner thought we would give it a try for her birthday staff seemed pleasant I had pre booked but they had no record of my booking we needn't of as it was very quiet just one other couple dinning, the decor is very dated but clean, I had the pan fried chicken with bacon and leek sauce and new potatoes which was lovely however my partner had the fillet plaice stuffed with smoked salmon which was undercooked some bits seemed raw, an apology from the chef would of been nice, we did have a free desert though, asked for a pint of San Miguel and it came in a Stella glass they don't even serve Stella clearly not much pride in the simple things, we will not be returning in a hurry !

Dirty smelly run down hotel. With rust in the jacuzzi bath which we cleaned ! the fireplace in our room hanging off the wall and plug sockets with screws falling out !!! Not to mention human faeces on the wall ! The manager tom or Tim had no intention of listening to our complaint or doing anything to put the situation right not even a apology let alone a good will gesture !!! Would expect @ £170 a night for better quality or even a clean room. Left feeling totally ripped off and our weekend away was not relaxing at all !! Will be posting this review with photos on all the review sites ! If customer service had been better I may not have felt the need to leave a review like this. Don't waste your money !!! Was honestly relived and more relaxed at home with my 5 children than spending a 'luxury romantic 'night in this faulty towers hotel !

Tourist trap! Food was nice but absurdly overpriced, £100+ for 4 fish and chips and drinks, crazy price considering you have to collect your own food and it's served in paper trays without proper cutlery. Boutique restaurant price for takeaway food.

This is a great meeting place with a hiden garden out the back , a real locals pub Brian and shirley always make you welcome and have a great sense of humour. Theirs always a story or tale , they only take money not cards , but the ATM machine is very local. a good mix of ales, beers and spirits.
