We had a lovely meal cow pie full of meat delicious. The staff are lovely and friendly and we loved the warm atmosphere thank you.

The ambience is a little dated. However, the welcome was great. My medium rare steak was somewhat overcooked, but otherwise the food and service was great. Would certainly go back again.

We have just had (yet another) absolutely fantastic Sunday Lunch at the Durham Oz. Food was excellent, and very good VFM

Stayed here again in the caravan park behind the pub as last year had two meals in the pub again which we cannot fault first class service and very friendly staff would definitely recommend and will be back again next year many thanks Ronnie and Christine .

Has to be one of the best pubs I have been in for years. Warm welcome. great selection of beers and the food was fantastic. All at a very reasonable price. Would be my local if it was not 170 miles from home. But will be back next year. Thankyou to all staff members

The worst customer care I’ve ever experienced…the waitress was rude and shouted out me! In front of a pub full of customers! Sunday lunch ..1 slice of beef,a tablespoon of mash potato a solid Yorkshire pudding..literally solid full of “ dough” ..I complained and was given another the same …. Altogether a very negative experience….

What a lovely place this is! Greeted by lovely bar staff and shown straight to our table. Great menu and we were served very quickly with our orders. The food was very tasty and the waiting staff were all friendly and polite. We will be back!

Stayed overnight with our caravans on our way to Cadwell Park for the BSB. Caravan site was clean, tidy and quiet. Sat around the caravans with a few beers then in to the pub for a wonderful meal with good beers and gins on the bar. Staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us.

BEACH THEMED TEA August 2024 BEACH THEMED TEA. Went there with family for a beach themed tea, fish an chips all done as a picnic was lovely. pub was decorated well and the service was great very welcoming and staff very pleasant, was well worth the trip from the west Midlands. thank you Highly recommend

Beach themed afternoon tea was exceptional the ladies went all out decorating the restaurant. The food was served in mini picnic hampers with so many treats and delights. The chowder was the best we've ever tasted and served in a flask was a delight. Best mini fish and chips ever too many delightful bit to mention. Can't wait for Halloween themed afternoon tea.

Sunday dinner. Had the beef dinner amazing quality of food well presented. Table service extremely friendly and welcoming. Hard to find better. We have had many meals here and can highly recommend. Gary an Leanne

Had another fabulous themed afternoon tea here today and just had to leave another review....Seaside theme this time. Seafood chowder, fish n chips in a cone, mini fish mix, submarine roll, fresh fruit salad, Donuts, cake, rock and more... it was all absolutely delicious and so much attention to detail with the theming. The staff are fantastic too and we've already booked for the Halloween one. Highly recommend this lovely place.

What a fantastic little gem of a place. We have just moved to the area and called in on the off chance. Super friendly, fabulous Sunday lunch and sweet to die for. Staff could not do enough we will definitely be frequenting regularly.

The staff were very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately I enjoy my meal. I ordered the ‘Cow Pie’ (£17) which the menu says is a handmade steak and ale pie served with a rich gravy. The pie was quite large but the filling was just steak, nothing else. There was no gravy to speak of or vegetables of any kind and it didn’t taste of much. The rich gravy on the side wasn’t gravy - it was thin, watery and salty with little bits of meat floating it in. Half of the chips were still hard in the middle and the peas were hard. For the price this was a disappointing meal. The pudding (double chocolate brownie) was good and the others in my group all enjoyed their meals more than me so maybe I was just unlucky! (Edit: I’ve updated this review following a reply from the owners because I feel like I was overly harsh initially!)

Called in for 1st time on way to somewhere else hoping to get a meal. Service was brilliant and we got seated immediately. Had absolutely the best Cow Pie I've ever had, full of beautiful tender steak and fantastic gravy. I wish I lived nearer!!! Partner had the Sausage and mash, and she loved it too. Fantastic food and service, great place to come.

This is the 3rd meal we have really enjoyed the food Sunday lunch was very nice bit disappointed no Yorkshire pudding with pork.and turkey and would prefere gravy jug other then this food was brilliant little pricey for Sunday lunch must say but could not fault it the staff was excellent great customer service well worth a visit

We have passed this pub many times over the years and today decided to pop in on the off chance for lunch on our way home ,we were met by a proper warm welcome of love, sweetheart and Darling ,you know what I mean, a proper welcoming.The lady showed us to our table and we ordered drinks and decided on their Cow Pie for our main meal, when it arrived it was piping hot and all freshly cooked ,I opened the crust and found the pie crammed and I mean crammed with delicious pulled lean beef ,it was a plate full of yummy ,my wife couldn't eat all Her pie so the Lady happily boxed it up for us to take away ,we were unable to fit a dessert in so we had a coffee and left .We highly recommend this lovely little pub/ restaurant, it was the ideal setting for lunch with a soothing ambience of background music and chitter chatter ,we will definitely be back thank-you for a lovely afternoon meal from Kevin and Karen

Called last minute on Friday had 2 gluten free guests they had a great menu to choose from I had the cow pie and it fed me and my husband with fresh home cooked chips the steak inside was so lean and there were lots of it. Will definitely come back soon 👍👌

Beautiful roast beef dinner today at The Durham Ox Thimbleby. Everything was hot & the veg were al dente just as we like them. . It was sublime. Very well done to the Chefs & thank you.

Lovely pub and the food was great. Staff are so nice and friendly. Good choice on the menus and specials board. They do takeaway desserts too if too full.

Took my cousin and her husband to the Durham Ox and was not disappointed. We both have different intolerances and we could not be more individually catered for, nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic evening served by equally fantastic people.

Good food pleasant service Reasonable prices large portions don't have the pie unless like my husband you have a huge appetite or want to share ... All good I would have liked more mash with the chicken forestire which was lovely .. Also offer new potato or jacket potato not everyone like chips or mash ..I would love to go back anytime ..so give it a go you will not be disappointed

My family & friends group of 7 had a table booked for the first time 1930hrs Thursday 9th May, and we were all very impressed. Our orders were taken while we enjoyed a drink in the garden sunshine, then we were invited to our table. All our menu choices tasted excellent, but talking about mine, if you like a meat pie, and have a big appetite, then I thoroughly recommend their Cow Pie. It was amazing. The service was excellent, and the decor/ambience was lovely.

Arrived here. knowing dogs were allowed but. on arrival we were told no dogs allowed in the restaurant, only in the Bar but we were told no food served in the bar contrary to the website.

Called in by chance and so glad we did. The food was amazing and cooked to perfection. The Sticky toffee pudding was unbelievably good. Well worth a visit. Thankyou

What a fabulous country Inn, food was great as were the staff. Portions were of a good size, very tasty and value for money. We were staying on the small campsite at the pub, which, was also very nice and a great location for exploring the local area.

3 of us went for what was a lovely meal. Service was great, it all came out together - there weren't loads of other people there because we went early. I've only dropped a mark for the food through pickiness - it would've been nice to have lemon served with the starter (whitebait) which i found a little bland without it. The mushroom & ale pie and also the cow pie were fantastic. Definitely intend to return

On the way back from Horncastle we came across this pub/restaurant. We are so glad we decided to call in. We were given a very warm welcome. The restaurant and toilets were clean and comfortable. The menu is very good and there were a few things we wanted to try. My husband had the mixed grill and I had the cow pie. We were served quickly and the food was hot and well presented. We both said the homemade chips were amazing. The mixed grill was all very nicely cooked and s very generous portion. The cow pie was huge! It was packed with tasty, tender meat. The pastry was good too. There was a pot of tasty gravy that I could eat on its own. Perfect food and friendly service. Highly recommend eating there if you are out that way.

We have just returned from a wonderful visit to The Durham Ox Pub and Restaurant. My wife discovered this wonderful place after searching on the internet for Vegan food places near to Louth. It was only 25 minutes drive to this lovely restaurant. On entering the bar we were greeted warmly by the owner and shown to our table. We were booked for 6pm and the restaurant was very nice and welcoming. After ordering drinks we looked through the Vegan menu and ordered the Red Lentil and Cauliflower pie and the Teriyaki Burger. Both meals were delicious. I was jealous of the salted chunky chips on my wife’s plate. She did let me have one so I could taste how nice they were. After finishing our mains we had the choice of some wonderful Vegan desserts. We chose the Chocolate Orange sponge and the Banana, Walnut and Hazelnut Bread with Vanilla ice cream. We had a lovely experience at The Durham Ox and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a lovely meal served by friendly staff.

Really sweet cosy country-fied pub, loads of parking, very clean, staff are very friendly & food was overall very good. My partners burger was unfortunately undercooked but the staff did apologize and take it off the bill which was kind! Will definitely come back again & definitely recommend

We went along for the quiz night last week. It was great fun. Really lovely landlady and staff - very friendly and warm. Nice atmospheric pub. Good beer and sprit selection. Didn't eat - but the menu looks good so we will be back.

Had a stopover in our motorhome Friday through to Sunday nice and peaceful stay the pitch was more than acceptable with electric hook up with a top up from the bar. As the price per night was so reasonable we booked in for an evening meal which was fresh home cooked food. The food and drink was reasonably priced with good quality food. The hosts were friendly talkative and were made to feel very welcome as were the other guests. The bar area is dog friendly as is the site with 10 plots advertised on pitch up and a large field next to the site. The small town of Horncastle is a 20 min walk from the site with plenty of local shops. I would highly recommend this site suitable for motorhomes and caravans

The food was delicious. The price was good. Most of all the staff are friendly and obliging. We have visited there twice. We will be going back.

Booked for Sunday lunch as we like to try different places rather than cook on a Sunday. We have been here a few times before so we knew we could expect a nice meal and friendly welcome and we were not disappointed. I like the fact that they do smaller size meals as I cannot eat a full size portion so having this saves wasting food. The food was well cooked and well presented - I had roast beef with the fiery horseradish sauce lol and my wife had the roast turkey), the only minor point was that the food could have been served slightly hotter. We did bring this to the attention of one of the servers when she cleared the table. Desert was great, cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. Plenty of parking here and a friendly welcome with great food in a lovely rural location, whats not to like.

Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Will definitely be returning in the near future.

Christmas lunch. Very disappointed. We had 2. 00pm sitting. Most diners had already eaten so therefore the resurant lacked atmosphere. We were rushed throughout. The food was not of the standard we expected for the price we paid. Not the best experience we were expecting. We enjoyed each other's company and didn't have to do the washing up. Which was the positive attitude we went home with.

We have passed by for the past 14 years but finally ventured in and found what we have been missing! Very friendly, excellent food and great prices. I had a steak pie which is easily the best pie I have ever had!

We had the absolute pleasure of staying in the van-parking site around the back. A very well maintained, level and quiet space. All was easily accessible, very reasonably priced, and the hosts were charming and friendly. The food is magnificent, and the interior of the pub/restaurant delightful. Kerry and Jacqui should be rightly proud of themselves. Will definitely return!

Had a lovely, relaxed meal here during storm Babet. Service was friendly and efficient; the food was excellent; and reasonably priced. Decided to take the desert home as the weather was worsening. No problem. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

I have to say the Durham Ox is one of the only places we genuinely look forward to visiting and staying on their camp site. So far this year we have stayed there 3 times and have now just booked for a 4th, the reason is it is lovely pub with great hosts and lovely staff. The meals are all very tasty and reasonably priced and the atmosphere there is spot on so what more can I say. The Durham Ox is perfectly placed to explore the Lincolnshire aviation trail with RAF Coningsby being only a few miles away as well as Woodhall Spa and the beautiful market town of Horncastle only a few minutes walk away. So all in all the Durham Ox really has got a lot going for it and to be honest for us as a couple it just seems to get better every time we visit. Can't wait to go again in December 😉

Sunday lunch lovely meat not great roasties spoiled by being drenched in gloopy gravy which should have been served separately. Also not hot enough.

Visited with friends Lovely traditional pub with a beer garden and parking. Short walk from Horncastle so easy to walk from town there is a path so safe to walk once it’s dark. Waitress that served us was very friendly and helpful. Good selection of pub grub. Drinks were reasonable priced too. The restaurant was not busy with only one other table so was surprised when forced to order when one of the parties guest had not arrived. Enjoyed the outside seating area lights could do with staying on a little later than 9:30pm wasn’t a problem as we sat with phone lights on, to be fair waitress welcomed us to sit in to finish our drinks. Would be nice to have heaters so can make the most of cooler evenings.

We stayed at the caravan site for 5 nights Lovely little site very peaceful. We had two meals at the pub. The food is delicious and we highly recommend the cow pie. Jacqui and Kerri were the perfect hosts. We would definitely return if we were in the area again

This was our first visit for my husband's birthday. We are so pleased as soon as you walk straight away. You are greeted by a smile and a warm welcome. The starters were lovely. The main course was amazing. I had the steak, and it was cooked just the way I liked it. The sweet also was amazing. The flake cheese cake was very yummy. We would strongly recommend the price was very good to complements to the cheif and thanks to the waitresses

I was treated to afternoon tea today by some friends. It was absolutely delicious! Very well thought out and nicely decorated with a seaside theme. Everything was spot on. We all had a fantastic afternoon. Looking forward to the next afternoon tea experience!

Fantastic selection for gluten free and other dietary needs. The food is plentiful and well presented and the pricing is fair.

Overall the meal was good. The prawn cocktail starter was OK but didn’t’t need the side salad with it,nor did the spiced cauliflower. The mains courses of roast beef and the roast pork were good and there was a good selection of veg to accompany them. The only pic I remember3d to take was of the chocolate brownie which was amazing. Value for money was good.

Amazing food, lovely service! I can’t remember having a better meal. Starters were red hot and so tasty, loaded fries not something I’d order but we had 11yr old with us, I’d def order again from here. My main was baked haddock.. I nearly always order fish. The haddock was glossy and perfectly cooked, which is very rare! The carrots tasted like they were cooked in tarragon butter, pak Choi was lovely and charrred, crushed new potatoes had whole grain mustard through them (I’m famous for not eating my veg) every mouthful was delicious.. the salsa Verde was sharp, citrusy, we’ll balanced! My son had a side of mac and cheese which was gooey and bubbling hot. I tried his salad and even that was crunchy and sweet with different textures. Portion sizes were perfect. Definite ten out of ten, best meal out in many many years!

Visited for Sunday dinner today (30/07/2023). I had the roast beef while my partner had the roast pork- both meals were amazing. Good portion sizes- I rarely finish my plate but managed to finish my Sunday dinner here. We followed up with cheesecake, which was so good and so filling I had to take some home with me. This is the 3rd time we’ve been and each time we’ve really enjoyed ourselves. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning soon

Found this place while on the road. Told us they had ran out of food at 1pm on a Saturday? Not friendly and didn’t try to accommodate us or even offer us a sandwich. No apology just clearly didn’t want us there.

Visited during the Easter holidays while on a cottage break with the kids. Great little place for a meal and a drink. Service friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Lots of great options for everyone including vegan, veggie and kids options. We all enjoyed a lovely meal.

Clean hostelry with good service ethic. Food cooked perfectly. Menu conventionally varied and lacking in flavour. Draught drinks cold (when appropriate) and all utensils perfectly clean. Good parking area with a beer garden (fenced) also in good order. This reviewer would go again. Attached photos are of the vegetarian Mexican Burger with fries and coleslaw.

Just staying at The Durham Ox for a couple of nights in our motorhome and I have to say what a Gem of a place this is. We were looking for somewhere we could have a couple of quiet nights stay whilst our daughter was away with school and this place fits the bill perfectly. The bar and restaurant offer a good selection of food and beers to accommodate all tastes. The owners are lovely and have made us feel very welcome and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. I have to say the food was out of this world (compliments to the chef 👍) and very reasonably priced. The site is well kept and for £15 a night stay in a caravan or motorhome it offers great value for money, there are electric hook ups for those who need them (charged on usage). For those who just want to explore the Lincolnshire Wolds or the Aviation Trails this place is perfect. Our genuine thanks go to everyone here at The Durham Ox we will definitely be coming back 🍻👍👍.
