Looking for somewhere in Glossop for breakfast before a day’s hiking, we got lucky and arrived here just as they were opening up on a Saturday morning. We grabbed a window table, and settled in. 20 minutes later, the cafe was full with locals in the know and visitors. The coffee came out quickly - and was properly hot. Well done. We both went for a full English - fresh ingredients cooked well. The service was friendly, meals came out in good time, there are clean toilets and we left well set up for a day’s hiking. Outdoor tables on the pavement at the front.

Called in today, Saturday, at around 1.45pm and ordered drinks which were delivered promptly. We were then informed that they had stopped serving cooked food. Would have been nice to be told this before we ordered the drinks. We left and went elsewhere. As said in a previous review their business acumen is sadly lacking.

We made an impromptu visit this morning to Dukes for a coffee and cake. It was a delightful experience. We received a very warm welcome, super hot coffee and a selection of cakes to choose from. I noticed that meals are also available, as well as a panini’s and toasties upon request, just ask it says! The walls are adorned with work from local artists of the local area too. The cafe is immaculately clean. Before leaving we had a conversation with the owner who clearly cares about how their coffee is produced and is obviously very proud of the business and rightly so.

I researched this café, looking for a meal break in my long journey home from Sheffield. I made a special detour to Glossop to go there. I checked the opening hours on their website the night before, which said they were open until 5pm. It was very disappointing therefore to find all the chairs on the tables and someone cleaning up at just before 3.45. The man explained that they had been very quiet. When I asked about the hours on the website the man said that they didn't know the password to make changes!! Luckily I spotted a Food Hall (not just any food hall...) down a path on the opposite side of the road and went there. I try and support the independents but I felt badly let down by this one. I would have been writing a quite different review if the man in the café had had either compassion or a business brain. Both were absent. When I had just travelled an hour to get there and find the café closing, the offer of a hot drink and piece of toast would have been very welcome. As it was I had a very tasty halloumi and falafel wrap in the Food Hall.

Visited Dukes for the first time wanting a good breakfast The service was great, warm friendly welcome on arrival and a clean dining area. Drinks were served promptly and were very nice however the full english breakfast was a little disappointing The produce ie bacon seemed to be good quality however the egg had been cooked in old oil so had black bits on it, the sausage patty was greasy and the slice of tomato cold I also found it a tad expensive for what you got, compared to other local cafes/restaurants

I am currently commuting between Sheffield and West Lancashire on a regular basis. Its appx 70 miles each way. Day one, I travelled by the motorway system M1/M62/M6. It took three and a half hours to get to my destination. Return I'd come back via the Snake and it had taken 75 minutes, though I'd done it at night when the roads were empty. So day two I reckoned if it was going to take three hours I might as well go by the scenic route, so I looked to the west via the Snake again. 75 minutes at night on the A57, it may be, but its frequently much longer than that during the day; as those that have sat in the traffic between Glossop and the motorway roundabout will know.It is a beautiful road to drive, however, one of the most visually stunning roads in the land. This time, as i descended into Glossop and in need of a pit stop, I saw Duke's. So I took my break. I am so glad I did. The day before, on the motorway edition, I'd stopped at Hartshead for my pit stop. I don't mind Hartshead services I think its one of the better ones on the motorway network. But, let's face it, that's not really saying much, is it?Dukes has cakes. Lots of them. Home baked. I ordered two; Brownie and Fruit. The fruit was particularly lush. They also have plenty of other tasty treats (try Avocado and eggs on toast). The coffee was so delicious I bought some of the beans that were on display in the cafe so I could have some more when I got home. I am drinking some as I type this review in fact. Yum yum yum. The staff are lovely, they have a great taste in Northern indie bands. It turns out we have a mutual affection for The Verve. (My favourite is A Northern Soul btw). I left fortified, the journey still took three hours. Day one I arrived stressed, frustrated and with blood pressure rising. Day two I arrived relaxed, satisfied and raring to go. Go figure. Price-wise. Compared to Hartshead? Are you kdding me? Twice the quality for two thirds of the cost. 11 out of ten.I will definitely be calling at Duke's again.

On our most recent visit saw us try some of the food and not just the great coffee they serve here. There is a good choice on the menu we opted for the halloumi burger. Plenty of great cheese with a nice big mushroom tomato salad and a great tasting garlic mayonnaise. It came with the option of being served on brioche or ciabatta breads. The service was quick. Returning from Cheshire to Huddersfield, we were hungry. We stopped at Whaley Bridge but both of the cafes we tried to visit closed at three. Passing through Glossop, we first called at 'Glossop Cafeteria' which had good reviews on this site but closed at four. Not so Dukes, it closed at five, giving a good hour plus to eat. And what good fayre it was. Tasty bacon & Mozzarella panini with a vibrant looking salad for me, fine halloumi wrap for my partner. Quality moist cake selection for afters & all accompanied by tasty coffees. Surroundings, well that's a tick. Helpful but not overbearing staff, right again. In Glossop looking for a decent cafe? Strong Union Coffee and a selection of grub to suit vegan, veggie, those requiring gluten or dairy free are all catered for here. The games were a nice touch which helped to keep our kids occupied while we enjoyed the wonderful coffee and cake. The one downside is the toilet which is round the back (you have to go outside into the street and back into a yard). Having said that the toilet was clean and supplied with soap etc but a bit basic. One of the few places one can get a decent decaf. I checked that it was decaf as it tasted too good! Proper barista and proper beans make it a place I'd go back to. The only seat option left was hard on my skinny bum tbh but wouldn't put me off. This is partly why it is a 4 star alongside the loo situation. Of the two places that serve excellent coffee in Glossop this is the best one to get a slice of cake or a bite to eat. I particularly enjoyed a homemade ginger cake. The music theme of cafe is also good fun if you are into indy, rock, etc.

Stopped off for a coffee. Pleasant staff, cozy surrounds and great coffee. The cakes looked good. Definitely worth a visit.

I love the food here!being gluten free can be a real pain and menu choices can often be very limited, but HERE!!! there is so much choice, all food is freshly prepared to a high standard, tasty and extremely well priced. this is my favourite place in Glossop for lunch and coffee. Very friendly staff , It's a popular place and quite rightly so. well done.

Not being familiar with this area we stopped off at Dukes having enjoyed a beautiful drive through Snake Pass. This small cafe is snug and welcoming and offers delicious homemade soup, hearty sandwiches and probably the best cup of coffee we've had in ages. There are board games to pass the time and some great local works of art on the wall. If you're in the area it's worth stopping by.

Had a fabulous lunch today - presentation was that good i had to take a photo - and the taste lived up to the Visuals. Well done team Dukes - you never cease to impress. Mushrooms - topped with goats cheese and sundried tomatoes.

We visited here for the first time yesterday and we were not disappointed. We called in for a hot drink and then got tempted to have a cake each . The staff were lovely and welcoming and it was no trouble that we had a pushchair with us. Nice to visit an independent cafe rather than a 'chain ' we would definitely visit again. The prices were good too.

Dukes is always my first choice for a coffee or afternoon tea in Glossop. Not only are the coffees, teas and cakes tip-top but the staff are unfailingly welcoming and pleasant. You only have to raise an eyebrow and they know you want something and come to your table. Otherwise, they leave you in peace. We stayed on for lunch on one occasion and were equally happy with the lunch menu. Reasonable prices and far friendlier than most other cafes in the town.

The iced coffee and brownie was amazing. The shop is small but has a great atmosphere and products. My friend had a sandwich and it was great!

Never open at the correct times. Visited three times over the same week and waited 30-60 minutes before giving up and climbing nearby Mam Tor as they were not open even though they said they were.
