A great English Pub as we like them. There is even a small fireplace. Problem: the ambient temperature does not make this a pleasant restaurant. We're just cold. Damage.

Booked this pub restaurant for mum's 80th birthday meal with family and friends ( 17 people ) Charlotte and her team have been extremely professional yet friendly and provided a first class service throughout the evening. The food was excellent and a couple of people have said they will be recommending this pub to their friends.

Despite saying that we would not visit again due to a previous experience, we called for lunch (eating inside this time) at 14.00. This pub advertises lunchtime food is served until 14.30. When we asked for the menu at 14.00 we were told that the kitchen has closed because they had been busy! Really wished we had found out before we ordered drinks. They do not deserve our custom. Definitely will not return here.

I have visited the Duke William on several occasions with family and friends, to which I can attest, the high standards with the quality of the food and drink have been maintained for many years. The menu has a wide range of adult meal choices with locally sourced ingredients. The Bury Black pudding was a great choice for the starter and was pleasantly presented alongside Piccalilli dressing on a breakfast bun with streaky bacon bits. I would suggest a dollop of Coleman’s for that true market experience! For main I chose Steak Frites, which was cooked to preference- very well so I may say, choosing medium rare presented me with a lovely pink inner. Served with regular fries and a side of steak gravy on a hot plate satisfied my appetite perfectly. Ample seating inside and outside (with gazebo) in an off beat location, takes you away from the hustle and bustle of city centre / town dining. Note, the pub is down the side road so keep a keen eye out for the green railings and dusty track! I would recommend booking or calling for reservations as every table was booked for a Sunday afternoon. I popped in and managed to get a table spot on 12:00. The staff are very courteous and ensured I was catered for throughout my stay. Don’t worry about the rice in the salt shakers, it’s there for a reason ;) I will visit here again and highly recommend the Bar and Restaurant to family and friends.

We ate here with friends and were looking forward to a nice Sunday roast. My friend was disappointed as the only option for a Sunday roast was beef and she had hoped for chicken. The beef was to be served pink and to be fair to them, they were happy to make sure hers was cooked further. The Yorkshire pudding, beef and gravy were all very nice. I found the roast potatoes disappointing, they tasted like they’d been warmed up, perhaps cooked earlier in the day, as we went in the evening. Also, the mashed potato and carrot/swede was more like a dollop of puree, too runny I’d say. We also opted for cauliflower cheese and this was nice, although not browned on the top. I probably wouldn’t have left a review and certainly would have scored it another point if the service had been better. We were one of the last tables in and towards the end of eating, we noticed a distinct lack of service. We were all ready for another drink but the waitress who served us blanked us every time she walked past. She then started cleaning tables around us but didn’t once stop to ask if we wanted anything else. We managed to grab the guys attention and asked if we could order dessert, only for us to be told that the kitchen had started being cleaned down so we couldn’t. We were pretty annoyed as nobody told us that we’d be only be served a main course and we certainly weren’t slow at eating. Unfortunately, I think it’ll be a long time before we try this place again, for those reasons.

Not as good as it used to be. Two of us visited, both had steakpie which has totally changed. Used to be served in a dish with flaky pastry top and lots of gravy. Now its a complete pie and very dry. I though about ordering a jug of gravy but saw the size of it on the next table and for £3 its just a total rip off. We used to go alot but they keep hiking the prices up and changing the quality of the food. Staff were non existant and never bothered to check if we were happy with the meals or needed any more drinks. We had to chase after one just to get the bill and pay. Wont be rushing back anytime soon.

We visited to have a couple of afternoon drinks in the beer garden whilst enjoying the lovely sunshine and decided to order food. We are local and have eaten here many times. The menu for outside used to be the same as inside so you knew what you were getting. This has now changed and not for the good. You are basically getting a very inferior product just for having the nerve to sit outside. In the past you were lucky to be allowed to order food when sitting outside. Now you are being punished and charged for it. The burgers are very small poor quality burgers chucked on a bun and then chucked in a box. We came away with very sore bum cheeks after getting our bottoms slapped. If you don’t want to serve food outside don’t. Stop insulting your customers by serving rubbish. Do not order off the outside menu!!!

Just enjoyed a meal for two (not on my own haha).. Have to say, although I don't eat out often, has to have been the best nice quiet meal out in years - Everything just right - food all cooked to perfection and well presented - goats cheese roasted beetroot / calamari (starters) and we had sea bass / rump steak (mains) - with a few drinks and sat chatting with some other punters we'd met - Made for a real pleasurable and pleasant experience. Thanks to the chief and to Paul the bar/manager for serving us and making us feel welcome - Highly recommended 👌

Will NOT be returning. Visited the duke William for tea one Sunday, our table was booked for 3:30 and when we arrived wasn’t ready - we waited 25 minutes before we even sat down. This meant we was waiting in the bar area and was getting awful looks from a lady who I believe was the landlord. This could’ve been avoided if our table was ready for the time we booked for?! The same lady took our order and continued to be extremely rude, upon paying the bill at the bar she made a comment moaning that no one had dessert which I find weird. She then let a member of the party buy another round of drinks then 2 minutes later come over to the table saying she needed the table back. This was at 5:30, so we only had the table for 2 hours which was NEVER mentioned upon booking especially when there was quite a lot of us. I find this disgraceful after letting someone buy a round of drinks then saying we need to move off the table this is disgusting behaviour she clearly just wanted the money. If this is the landlady her attitude is AWFUL and her attitude alone was enough to put us off going back. Completely ruined it, and the last thing being we paid £50 deposit to secure the table and she tried to dismiss this and not knock it off the total bill. Vile

As I drove down the beaten track towards the duke William, the smells of khoa san road and chang mai became more distinctive..the smells of my travels around Thailand back in 2016.... Seeing on Instagram that the duke William was offering a Thai curry night, all I could hear was axl rose singing "welcome to the jungle " - a classic guns and roses track...I could have been raised off my motorbike and followed the scent of that jungle curry. Imagine the Hannah-barbera cat "I think toms his name" following the fresh smell of fish, but this was pungent and warming...really had my taste buds tantalizing, and I hadn't made it through the front door. Sitting down and having a beer, wishing it was a chang, but nevertheless, birra moretti did the trick. I managed to get my hands on a jungle... Rumour has it, a small angry Italian operates and cooks all the Curry's from scratch...how could such a bloke with such anger create a balance of flavours not even Paul Hollywood would put in to a focaccia..he really sounds more like a delicate flower with finesse and passion. Once finishing, I asked who this personality was behind the pans... Soon to be told, his name is Nelly. Thanks Nelly for the nostalgia and feeling I had during my trip to Thailand. So to you nelly - knob kun khrap 🙏🙏

Sorry to have to Wright this but we went on Sunday and we were most disappointed, firstly we were not told we had to ask staff about Sunday lunch menu also chicken supreme was off at 1-00. We settled on starters and chicken and chorizo pie from recommendation from staff. As I started mine I placed a form full on my plate too start my lunch and was faced with a length of skin plus feathers also on inspection I pulled out of fish the knuckle end of drumstick.me finished. The waitress came too see if all was ok and I showed her what I had found she apologised and went away, eventually the chef came ask what was wrong I showed him and he admitted I was right I said I was not eating it and off he went. This is a tale but shortened for 3people myself having one piece of garlic bread and 6chips cup of coffee, the lunchtime ended up costing over £60 no apology from management and I went home and made something too eat which I could have done in the first place. MIFFED.

Popular with locals, this is a good pub to call in. We just turned up hoping for something toveat. The place was full. We were told that we may have to wait about half an hour. In the event we sat down after about 15 minutes. We used the time to get a drink and speak to a couple who had just eaten. They were effusive in their praise. They said they ate there regularly and praised the cheese and onion pie. I had Jamaican goat curry, my other half, the curried fish. We both enjoyed our meals. We will eat here again but booking is a good idea.

Too notch service, the food was absolutely delicious, I had Caribbean, Jamaican Goat curry, and it was so nice, full of flavour, the goat melted in your mouth, absolutely delicious, great bar staff today who really looked after a couple next to us celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, Sam and Lewis went above and beyond to make sure they had an amazing night , it was lovely to see how special they made the night for them , All the staff where amazingly , always checking tables to make sure every one had drinks, no tables left with plates on them .. absolutely 💯 service all the time .

They reserve the front room for dinners but they come in and don’t eat we have to sit out side because there’s no room inside. Locals very unfair. We had kids but had to stay outside in the cold

I did not eat. I only popped in to get some Christmas presents and it was well worth the trip.

I'm giving this a 2 because they have no website. Just a Facebook page. No where can I see on that page a reservation option. We turned up in the rain, table was free but apparently reserved. Waste of time and journey and only 5 tables. So do your self a favor and either ring or don't bother.
