Thanks again to The Duke for a wonderful few days stay. As a bunch of visiting yachtsman who don't sleep on yachts, we stayed AGAIN here and absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Been visiting The Duke for 20+ years. The food was once again good and honest food and always clear to see that many locals visit there too. Thanks especially to Chrissie who once again 'sorted things' for us.

We arrived in Cowes for our 10 day break - our first port of call is usually the Duke of York as it’s close to our apartment. Last year we were a little disappointed with the food but I am glad to say it’s back on track! We had the best (and biggest) fish & chips we have had for a while - it was so huge I couldn’t finish mine & didn’t have time for a pud! We are looking forward to Sunday lunch!

Great little find. Good pub with tasty food and friendly service. There was a good choice of pub food, freshly made and served hot. Portion sizes are large and we struggled to finish our plates but it wasn’t for a want of trying. Our son has a food allergy and the waitress immediately identified what items of the food we would be worried about and reassured us it was safe. There was a good selection of Gluten free meals listed on the chalkboard. All in all, a great place to eat and we will definitely be back.

We had already visited the Duke on several occasions in the past and always had an excellent Sunday lunch. My husband enjoyed his roast beef very much but mine was almost cold and a little tough, followed by the tiniest piece of cheesecake I have ever seen - so unusual! Wouldn’t have had any if we didn’t ask. Somehow expected to eat a roast with our hands. Plain bland basic food with no flavour and didn’t feel very welcome. Full disclosure: I’ve known Sally, the owner, since childhood. But, The Duke is a nice place to stay. My room was simply furnished and small; but it did its job. It was clean and comfortable, and quiet. The shower was strong and hot. What more could I want? Ah yes, a couple of extra towel hooks! Breakfast is not a fancy affair but it’s big and tasty. Great bacon, in particular. You’ll be called “love” not “sir”; everything is a bit chaotic, but in a nice way. You’ll leave with a smile; what more do you want? Great value for money. Good location for sailing and the town. A car park.

Found the Duke of York in West Cowes after trudging through the town seeking something fishy, that was not just fish. It was a Monday so maybe that’s why the task proved hard?? Don’t know...but what we do know is - you will find ‘it’ at the Duke of York. 3 x fish pies please, and a side of whitebait. It was good, and hearty, and just what we needed on this bleak and rainy (call this ‘summer’??) kind of day. Just don’t ask what the ‘fish of the day’ is printed on the menu. They haven’t an answer except to say “we’re out, sorry”

We visited this restaurant a couple of times whilst we were in Cowes and have to say that we both had some of the best food we had enjoyed, even in the more expensive restaurants. My husband chose the cod & chips and it was difficult to fit the fish on the plate! I chose the fish pie which was delicious - we came back again thinking that maybe the food wouldn't be so good the next time but we were wrong it was exactly the same and so much food on our plates that it was difficult to fit a pudding in! We did manage to share some very good pancakes though with clotted cream ice cream - I think this is a very underrated restaurant and deserves to be much higher up in the ratings!

If you want a quick bite to eat this is a pretty decent place. The staff are quick to take your order, and in my experience even in the busy period your food is usually done within 5-10 minutes. The price isn't ridiculous, and the burgers are good. My only disappointment was the chips, I found them to be a bit overcooked but other than that, I was happy with my experience.

This used to be our go-to restaurant - the view across the lake is great. The portion sizes are small - which is ok you can have a starter and desert but the prices are quite high. We got some shoddy service there and twice got charged for an extra main course - always get the bill - seems to be optional there. Not going back.

Food always on point, fresh salads, chips that actually taste like potatoes and fast delivery

Visited for Sunday lunch, v friendly meet and greet, limited menu, we ate lamb and beef roast dinners, well presented, v tasty and large portions, served with good wine and Loweswater Gold beer. Another excellent lunch, many thanks, we will return.
