Lovely pub, worth a visit, clean and friendly

Unfortunately, there is no food 😕 anymore. The Guinness was good

We went for the first time on the 3 .8.24 It was disgusting all off it food everything 😒 very disappointed won't ever go again we paided by card wud like some money bk my first yorkshire pudding g was burnt OK there changed it still burnt no gravy l was the lady with the walking stick

Steak was good, meat in the steak pie was scant

Since the pub has changed ownership it has become a brilliant village pub again. Friendly landlady/landlord and staff. Great atmosphere. Definitely recommend

Went for new year's eve not had any food as yet. But now we have new management the pub is returning to it's former welcoming friendly atmosphere. And as the population of Skirlaugh are no longer banned I'm sure the Duke will grow from strength to strength. Wish them lots of luck.

Excellent Christmas lunch, plenty of vegetables, turkey was very tasty too. Prawn cocktail for starters and Christmas pudding to finish. Thanks to Andrew and the team 😊

Booked for a family Sunday lunch. We all had roast beef, beautifully cooked, wonderful homemade yorkshire puddings, proper beef gravy. Great selection of seasonal vegetables. Cosy atmosphere, attentive service. It's very reasonably priced, too.

Lovely atmosphere and we were made to feel very welcome. The landlord and landlady went out of their way to accommodate our needs. The food is delicious and the customer service is excellent. and The facilities are immaculate. We went back the next day and will be returning again very soon. I really recommend the breakfast, fab chef Thank you 😊

Going through the village i called in the duke for a drink, seeing the Timothy tailors sign on the pub. Unfortunately there was no cask conditioned real ale on, so I just had a pint of keg beer. The staff were friendly and it's a nice cozy bar showing Sport on the TV. There's a separate area set aside for dining as the pub has a good reputation for its home cooked food. There's a nice outside seating area and a car park.

Lovely food and a great menu. Our waitress was very good and very pleasant. Steaks were done perfectly and the twist on the cauliflower cheese 👍

Stopped for a late lunch. It was quiet, probably because it was after 1400. So we shared some tasty Nachos for a starter then we had chicken, ham and leek pie with chips and peas and the Sunday special, chicken filled with stuffing and vegetables. To be finicky, because it was late, the chicken was slightly on the dry side but overall we enjoyed the meal. The menu looks interesting and varied and not over priced.

Went this afternoon for first visit. Excellent service friendly and polite staff . Best pub food we have had for a long while. Not cheap but worth every penny. The chef is brilliant don't change your staff. We will most certainly visit again. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

First time visiting today and was so happy we did. The young lady was kind and pleasant and very accommodating our dog was looked after with fresh bowl of water. The food was gorgeous hubby said one of the best burgers he's had in a pub in a long time. I ordered roast beef Sunday lunch was asked how I wanted my meat cooked but unfortunately it was quite ready so went for my second option of the chicken and leek pie and wasn't disappointed. We will be returning

Ordered 2 pints of carling, only had a few sips, didn't taste good and was flat, took it back to bar and another customer was taking their pint of Guinness back too

Server and drinks nice.prawn cocktails nice but very small .order rump steaks one medium one medium rare asked to be put on plate and no garlic on the mushrooms which we got ..started off very tasty on the edges but both raw in the middle

Excellent value for money, staff are really friendly, really nice cosy atmosphere, Really didn't want to leave ! 26/03/22 Well we have an update chef has changed so has the menu, we went for meal, myself, Claire & Chelsie, What a disappointment half the drinks on the menu where unavailable. But the meals themselves where the biggest disappointment of all, mine was Well done(I asked for medium) the Mrs wanted medium to Well (that was like a leather sole) my daughter asked for a rare to medium (the only blood she would have seen would have been her own after I smacked her in her nose !!!). As for home made chips !!! The last time I had something that salty was when I've been swimming in the dead Sea (not what some of you are thinking😆😆😆) I'm really sorry to say this but We don't think we will be back anytime soon 😡😡😡😡😡 Especially as it cost us nearly £100🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Myself gaynor roche Adrian Barrett and Tracey Barrett went to the pub on Friday for a meal and a few drinks Saturday went for another meal the owners and staff are absolutely fantastic and the food is totally excellent couldn't get a taxi home Stuart the owner went out of his way to take the 4 of us home can't fault the place definitely recommended it

Fantastic meal and the service was fantastic as well the only thing that let it down was the flies surly a pest control company could help or advise or put some kind of see through mesh on the windows hope it can be sorted it will not put me off going again just need this issue sorting

Visited this place on a Sunday afternoon, the service was brilliant, the food was really nice but the flies were everywhere and I don't mean just one or two buzzing around in mean we had up to five at one point on our table on our arms and having to bat them off our food as we ate, in the end we ate fast and didn't have dessert because it was too much hassle keeping them at bay, I won't go again till fly season is done.

Managed to get a table on a Saturday tea time without booking. Good choice of food including burgers, steaks and some specials but be sure to be hungry as no light bites! Food was delicious. Staff very attentive and friendly. Good selection of wines, gins and beers. Offers available at quieter times on food. Well worth a visit.

Oh this pub, I went on a one off read the reviews and it was it qas rated 4.9 at the time. Now I got the burger and also the 8oz sirloin steak was on the pricey side but to be fair when you got a taste of what you bought well you bough some very quality food, tasted absolutely amazing, the steak was cooked to perfection my only complain would be to ask if either wanted it flame grilled or normal some people don't like the whole smoked taste but other then that it was a good eat. The burger had its own home made pattie and cob and both of those together was spectacular. Will definitely visit again in the future.

On holiday for the week, picked this pub after visiting Hull, must say it was a good choice, lovely clean and friendly pub, food was fantastic, it catered for all 7 of us , reasonably priced , we all enjoyed our meal, highly recommend, just sorry we didn’t have no cash on us for a better tip

First meal since pubs reopened and such a perfect choice. Great food and atmosphere. Staff were very lovely. Looks like a reduced menu but still plenty to choose from. Will be back soon 😉

Lovely food great service would go back again

Nice setting but the food was disappointing. If you went back 5 or 6 years ago this used to be the best pub in the area for food but it has steadily gone down hill.

Great food, cosy ambience, great for date night and for groups. High chairs avaliable, friendly staff and great pricing too.

My partner & I managed to book a table for tonight as we hadn't been for a couple of years (which was amazing then catering for 17 people & all food came out together) & tonight was fantastic too. Amazing food yet again plenty on the menu & really friendly staff as always, couldn't do enough for you, even though we was both full after our main we really wanted to sample the pink gin cheesecake so asked if we could take it home with us which we ended up doing, it's actually gone in the fridge to eat tomorrow as we were still full. Everything is clean & the waitress wiping tables & things down as soon as people left. Absolutley love the food here & will certainly be returning again. Xxx

Brilliant pub owned by the chef and his wife. Superb staff that are friendly and very helpful. The food is fantastic, great quality, all home made and tastes great. We had a sharing taco and King prawn with chorizo starter then a Cumberland sausage with mash, a Burger with no bun but coleslaw instead and a hunters chicken, all with veg, salad and chips. Excellent value and great food. The bar area is a bit small as is parking so we parked opposite down a side street. They do daily specials and a good selection of home made desserts. This is far better than any chain pub. We have been quite a few times and loved every visit.

A really amazing meal, all 4 of us were very happy. Especially my son with an allergy who got a lot of choice as the staff were knowledgeable and happy to adapt meals. Wish we lived closer but already planning when we can visit again.

Booked a table here to celebrate daughter's birthday, no waiting for table everything clean and plenty of sanitizing on display.Food fantastic they had run out of sirloin steak but due to the eat out to help out offer on hardly surprising ,service wonderful.Only one little complaint onion rings need more batter on.

Such a lovely village pub, staff are friendly and will try to cater to your every need. Food is delicious and very filling, if you can manage a dessert I would highly recommend the brownie.

Quiet pub, service great as was the staff

Well have been before for a meal in this busy cosy pub. But Sunday Feb 2020, sadly was a big let down, my partner ordered Sunday Roast Beef , I had to settle for Hickory chicken as no Roast chicken left at 4 30 pm. The meals were a good full plate, but my chips were to seasoned. The Sunday Beef dinner was a big let down, roast potatoes had a strange taste looked like they had been deep fried in oil as very golden on the outside, Also the veg was a strange mix for a Sunday roast, served seperate? The big let down was the meat It was a steak not roast beef , as my partner was asked how he wanted it cooked. Big in size but fatty all the way through. For £12.95 its not cheap compared to two other pubs we use. The staff at The Duke of York are excellent in serving and politeness. We will come again but won't be having Sunday Lunch sadly. (Mea) x

The food is ok. I had hickory chicken, the bacon was underdone, the chicken was overdone and the cheese was like leather. My girlfriend had the curry, which she loved. We have eaten there before and enjoyed it. We would go back again.
