Duke Of Cambridge in Oxford

Went for a saturday happy hour and stayed a bit longer! During the happy hour it was very busy but it felt much more nicer after the hours went and the dimmed lights were lovely! Got two cocktails one that was short and one long (tipsy tea) and like them both but felt there were too much ice in both of them. The staff were lovely and the price of the cocktails were very nice!! The only issue was the music was sooo loud that a lot of us had to yell at each other and that was not the best. Also having some snacks would improve it too.

This has been my favorite bar (definitely cocktail bar) in Oxford for years! Amazing cocktails, great service... but mainly the feel, look, and atmosphere was 5 star! However, for some reason they have added a really strange painted wall behind the bar - it look's so out of place and does not fit with the vibe/look. Previously it had a classy mirrored wall with bottles and a warming light - looked like a classy! Now it just looks... very strange and has sadly changed the whole vibe/look of the place. I truly mean that it has sadly put me off somewhat. It is a rare that somewhere updates and it looks worse... but 100% this is one of those rarity's. I asked other customers what they thought and ALL of them (that had been before) said the same. I hope the management recognise this and move towards something more fitting soon.

Popped in for a drink after the theatre. There was live music and they were very good. Plastic cups only when there's a band though so don't expect a wine glass for you wine

The happy hour until 8pm is brilliant here, the cocktail list superlative. Each cocktail is handcrafted to the highest standard and selected glasses including my favourite Nick and Nora. Highlights a fabulous French 75 with real champagne and salty rim Margarita!

Some of the best cocktails in the world at this place, and mostly for less than 10 pounds even when it is not happy hour - about 7 pounds when it is. If you go here and don't get cocktails you've missed the point. They have very light bar snacks, which are fabulously tasty. My only complaint is the music can be a bit too loud, but to be fair they did lower the volume when asked. I've been here many times and is my go-to place. They've had the same bartenders for quite some time, which means they know the drink menu inside out.

I miss the Duke of old days. Always packed. Brilliant atmosphere. Lively bartenders. Menus. Good music and nice decor. Popped in recently and was seriously let down. Awful decor that looks so wrong in there. More like a garden centre and nothing matches. Bored staff snd a DJ playing drum n bass to nobody. It was empty. I asked for a menu and the barman pointed at a QR code. This was a premium cocktail bar in its day. I certainly don’t want to view a menu on my phone like it’s 2020! Saving grave was the banging cocktail I had. Glad that hasn’t changed. I really think they are missing a trick. The same people that used to go here and spend money are still drinking, just in other places. Bring back the old Duke. Oxford needs you!!!! We miss you!!!

I was served by a very attentive bartender I believe called Hannah. She was delight to be served by and made me a delicious mojito.

Amazing! We rented the bar out of a private event and it was brilliant. Service was great from booking all the way to excellent bar service on the night. DJ was great and played our type of music. Great drink selection. Everyone had positive things to say about the venue and the staff. Thanks for making our night special.

Used to be an amazing pub not sure what's happened if its been taken over as the atmosphere was awful and the staff so rude and unwelcoming.

Nice bar, doesn't really get busy till 1030. Seems to be for over 30s atmosphere. Cocktails and good beer but not a pub more high class. If u do like your beer it on sell 2/3 pints. Good booths for large groups and bars stools. Nice modern decor

Really annoyed me. Stood at the end of the bar because the rest of the bar was full. Guy making cocktails was very slow. Made the mistake of not moving towards the centre of the bar as people took their drinks, why would you? Guy served 2 sets of people who walked straight up to the centre of the bar and totally ignored me. He only served me when I called out "Excuse me. Am I invisible? I was ahead of these people and the last people you served." No apology. A guy behind me said exactly the same had happened to him. Mediocre cocktails, small, overpriced, rude staff, don't bother as there are plenty more places in Little Clarendon Street and much nicer.

Can't help but stop by here for a Patron or coffee tequila.

So I came during happy hour on a relatively quiet night. Firstly it was clear the staff were purposefully running down the happy hour clock but fine I can get that. The happy hour ended at 9 so I joined the bar at 8:45. Not only were three people who joined after me served before me (and the bar staff had clearly made eye contact with me on multiple occasions so knew I was there) but it was 9:03 by the time I was served (I have never had to wait over 15 minutes at an oxford bar/pub on such a quite night). Therefore, I asked to pay before they made the drink and was denied happy hour price despite my long wait and the regular prices are overpriced I think, especially when compared to better cocktail bars like Alchemist with similar prices. I left the bar empty handed to go sit with my friends only for loud music to play every now and then meaning I couldn’t hear most of them.

Delicious individual cocktails and music at a volume where you can have a good conversation

Lovely way to start Christmas eve. A couple of cocktails before our restaurant booking. Reserved a table no problem. Good cocktail menu, plenty of staff. Even pre warned when happy hour was about to finish.

Great atmosphere on a Friday but took almost an hour to get served at the bar as they only had 4 bar staff and everyone was choosing cocktails.

Great choice of cocktails in a lively bar. Sadly we had to wait 25 minutes to be served at the bar which was a shame. Also if going on a Saturday, reserve a table as everyone else seems to have and there was nowhere to sit.

Great cocktail bar with a very attractive manager ;) also a brilliant service from a young man who as it turns out is also training to be a pilot! Cocktails are top notch, and customer service in general is great. Would recommend to any age group, some people in there were 20, some were 60, all seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Used to come here all time and enjoyed it very much, however, more recently the drink have become subpar and the music is too loud.

Dropped in when passing and had a great time - some really nice cocktails on the menu and really helpful and friendly bar staff, would be back like a shot.

Had a refurb made the place worse

Maybe not the greatest design of a cocktail bar, but the quality of drinks and service definitely gets it to 5*! Worth visiting when in Oxford if you are up for few old-fashions!

First time of going to this pub and can safely say we will not be going back! First impressions are a big thing for myself and with the reception we received at the bar was quite shocking. The barman that served us was very abrupt and unhelpful. Usually when you walk into any bar/pub or restaurant the staff are very friendly but not here. I don’t expect a classy cocktail bar to have staff with such attitude when asking a simple question on advice about mock-tails, I suggest they go back to some basic customer service training even if it’s to learn how to just show us a smile.

Imagine silky smooth nectar pouring down from the stratosphere like felix baumgartner with an aborted parachute directly into your gullet. The cocktail quality raises the intensity. Visited pre-Covid: alone, sitting, in a booth, spread out, and got absolutely thrashed like a lapsed AA member. The experience was sublime. Before you judge, try it yourself. Needless to say, the vid horrors have not wrecked the foundations and the cocktails are still solid as the Rock’s biceps. Never seen so much care and attention to detail around a happy hour drink. I may be used to London prices, but if this was near me I’d be a casual alcoholic.

This place has either changed hands recently, or been given a refreshed look and feel, it's a shame as it's pretty awful in its refurbished state. The racket that they'll tell you is music is so insanely loud that you have to shout at a bartender to convey your message, who could think this is a good idea? The plank at the end of the bar thinks he's the biz "mixing" the music, but he's the only person in here having a self indulgently good time. Everyone else is sitting in silence as communication is all but impossible. The bar staff are nearly competent once they've got your order, but cocktails take time, and even in a bar that wasn't very busy it takes way too long. I'm not a fan of a cocktail glass with drink all down the side of it either. Especially for the cost they're asking. I'm happy to pay top dollar, but only when everything is right enough to warrant it. I can't see the current model lasting too long, and I have to say, I'm looking forward to the next iteration. With Angels over the road not currently trading there is a huge opportunity for a good cocktail joint in this location. This isn't it.

The cocktails were fantastic! The atmosphere of the place was perfect for a Friday night cocktail. Having been a bartender before, I was impressed with the bartenders and their professionalism. Everything from the cocktail itself to the garnish was done to perfection. Highly recommend. Also, loved the cocktails with ice cream in them!

I love places like this, where the music is so loud you can't have a conversation - perfect if you don't actually like the people you are with. Where the drinks are so expensive you can't afford to stay for long. And where the bartenders are so full of themselves you aren't made to feel welcome. Best thing about the place was leaving - absolutely lovely outside!

Always excellent, but after recently being on holiday in the U.K. and trying espresso martinis in several other establishments, it really is very clear how good this place is. Each cocktail is beautifully crafted with experience and care. I don’t really like mojito’s, yet tasted one here and could have downed it in one. Also had a lovely non-alcoholic elderflower presse which was just yummy. Also helps it is located next to the best restaurant in Oxford, Pierre Victoire!

Having been a visitor to The Duke for many years we can honestly say it’s always been one of our favourite places. The cocktails are the absolute best. We visited for our first trip out and sadly were greeted by the most aggressive & grumpy (they are the only words that seem fitting) member of staff. We downloaded the app and ordered then my friend placed an order, so 2 drinks each and then home. He firstly came to our table and interrupted asking why we’d placed 2 orders. We explained we were only out for 2 drinks anyway so our was fine they could bring the drinks together. He stormed off !!!! And I mean stormed off. The drinks came and my friend said our little table wasn’t steady, the table wobbled and I one the drinks went off the edge. He came over with a brush and as I lived our three chairs he told me move out of the way. Again quite aggressively ! My friend put her mask on and went to the bar to say the table needed something under the leg, he stormed over and told us to stop moving the table. !!! We got our bags and left. I’ve been to The Duke over the years when it’s so busy you can’t move, it was the quietest I’ve ever seen it and from the second we walked in he clearly was having a bad day. All in all a really awful experience!!

Seems to have just changed its sign and colour scheme over lockdown to dark green. Usually pretty busy and is new-ish so a long bar with lots of comfy chairs around round tables. Cocktails are OK - there are better ones in Jericho; but a good city bar.

Usually packed to the rafters with premium totty. Not sure how it is in Covid times or in recent times for that matter. It its anything like it was back in the day you'll have a great time and come out with a light wallet.

Favorite place to be with friends

From the outside this looks a bit of a standard pub, but inside there's a nice airy conservatory type feel and a great cocktail menu. Service was friendly and there are also happy hour promotions available.

Fabulous cocktails made by lovely staff. We booked a table for 11 people @ 6pm & managed to drink 3 rounds of fabulous cocktails before the end of happy hour at 7.30pm Very impressive selection & knowledgeable staff, who all made them so well.

For pre dinner or after dinner cocktails this is the perfect place to go. Friendly staff even though they were busy. Great service and fantastic cocktails. Try it out.

First time at The Duke, not impressed, the waiter took ages to get done our drinks it was a hell of a wait for a few cocktails, not very friendly, and the quality and size of cocktails was a bit disappointing, never got an Apperol Spritz in a small glass and so flavourless. For the prices too you would expect something better, overall no not a place for me I would not visit again

Place is very loud. No soft furnishing to absorb the Sound of a group of 12 having a chat. Dont serve pints. Very grudging attitude from various staff. This place was unwelcoming and doomed to fail because it's not a pub it's a cocktail bar they believe they are serving a mythical customer base. Not good.
