This hotel isn't nearly as nice as the pictures taken!! There was no heating, my room (which I found out was the bridal suite) was right next to the toilets for the restaurant so a lot of noise and heavy smell of toilet freshener. The couch was ripped and very stained as was the carpet. Light falling out of ceiling and no tv remote. Organised a family dinner on Saturday night, steaks were extremely over cooked, almost like they had been reheated. Ran out of white wine (had one left but already opened), mayonnaise, sirloin steak!! Breakfast the next day took almost 2.5 hours!!! Ordered coffees and after 20 mins one arrived and it was a tea. Food served and forgot toast, it finally make out 10 mins after we had finished breakfast and was cold. This hotel was like Fawlty Towers but worse, definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone

Baby changing unit in the disabled toilet which was out of order, for told we can use it but theres no light and the changing table is broken! Major work needs done or just close for good. I wont be back. Definitely avoid the food! Only good point I have is the young guy Daniel was exceptional, if I was a business owner I would offer him a job. He is an asset to drummonds.

Visiting Markinch we looked for somewhere to eat and came across Drummond’s. It looked a very nice setting, and has a good, traditional menu. Service was good, but the food disappointing..... the macaroni cheese was acceptable but the burger was dry and, in places, cold. A nice venue for a drink, but wouldn’t return for food.

We arrived late afternoon on a Friday and were quickly given a choice of tables. Drinks arrived very shortly and so did the starters. My wife had the prawn cocktail, and I, the haggis and mushrooms. Both were very good. Our mains arrived without any delay. I had the special of cod, and my wife the traditional steak pie. Both meals were very acceptable, and the quantity of chips / veg too much for us to finish. The food worked out at £16 per head for starters and mains. Drinks (brandy & lemonade and large house wine) came to just over £10. The bill for two courses for two, plus drinks was £42.30. Service was fast, efficient and polite. We shall return.

Very seldom write a negative review but we have been patrons for many years and never had an issue before. We arrived about 3pm for a meal. The front of house staff were pleasant but seemed to be understaffed. Drinks arrived quickly and orders taken. Starters arrived in a reasonable time and were enjoyable. We then waited and waited for our mains, with the waiter apologising for the delay. My meal was fine but the steak pie had a very soggy, undercooked pie crust. Not just a soggy botto, but right through with a pale surface - not a golden brown! When we mentioned this the waiter returned to say that the chef said it was meant to be like that. We had ordered more drinks, but as we had such a long wait we cancelled these before they were pored or served. Asked for the bill to discover we had been charged for the cancelled drinks. In the Manager's defense he removed the drinks, did not charge for the "steak pie" and also gave us a discount on the bill. Just dissapointed as we really enjoy Drummonds. Hope this was a one-off experience.

Chose this place on location basis (close to motorhome park) but were very pleasantly surprised by the range of dishes on the menu and beautifully presented food set before us. Both had scallops, then I had duck breast and my partner chose roast chicken. Very happy with our meals and also with the very friendly service from Greg, who was valiantly holding the fort on his own on the Sunday evening (apart from the kitchen staff of course). What's more it was very good value for money. Recommended on all counts!

We entered this establishment this morning, around 10.45 on May 2nd, in search of breakfast. The unedifying sight of cigarette ends protruding from the receptacle at the front door almost did for us, but, having been disappointed by our usual breakfast providers, Banners House Hotel - supposedly 'closed for maintenance' - we were desperate. Desperate... and about to be disappointed for the second time in close succession. If there were any staff, after 5 minutes they had failed to appear, and a quick search did not uncover them. Perhaps they are unused to customers at this time of day. Perhaps they do not want customers at this time of day. Bear this in mind if you find yourself in Markinch, and hoping for a Full Scottish.

Do not know what happened to the review I posted a few days back so here is another. Arrived mid afternoon Tuesday 5th March left Friday morning 8th. Reception was at the bar which was not staffed, cried help! Keys for our room were missing so given a smaller room. About an hour later keys were found and we moved in. No central heating, two heaters were provided. Pillows were very poor with no covers. Lighting was poor but fine in the shower room. Shower door wonky so didn’t close properly. Water pressure low making it difficult to rinse your body.No variable heat so either very hot or cold. Food adequate. When asked for the wine list were told “sorry, our wine delivery is tomorrow only Merlot or Pinot Grigio available. Window frames dusty as were the bulbs in the table lamps. Bedside light had no socket to plug it in to. Tea bags not replaced next day. No WiFi tried several times as explained by a staff member to no avail. All that was missing was Basil Fawlty and his staff then it would have been a hoot!

After booking a table and standing waiting to be seated, and still waiting as barmaid/ waitress??? Poked her head over the bar and asked if we had booked not a great start. We were then shown to a seat where I was thinking I may be in need of a guide dog to see the menu as it was clearly lit with a two watt bulb. The “ waitress” done a fantastic Catherine Tate “ am I bovvered” impression. Girl has a talent, unfortunately not in hospitality. My drink was brought and that was the extent of the waitress service clearly ended. The meal was edible, but holy hell, the staff were the epitome of laziness and complete uninterest in the patrons. There were four tables to attend to so the wee lamb must have been ran ragged and interrupting her conversation with the other waitress must have been so demanding on her valuable time. Attitude was astonishingly bad, no salt on table and was shown which table I could get a cruet set from clearly one of the worst decisions I’ve made since I said I do. Avoid avoid avoid

Staff were unhelpful and never asked how the meal was. When food eventually arrived a couple of small things were missing. One of us actually cancelled a meal as a train was booked. No pencils/ crayons etc were provided for the kids which wouldn’t usually be a problem, but having to entertain a 3 and a 4 year old for 70minutes can be tricky.

However that's not the worst part, my family had booked the function room for the wake at my grandads funeral, this was only a few weeks ago and the service was just awful. Shortage of tables so people where just standing around until members of staff finally seen to it. Apparently there where 3 people meant to working in our area when the most part there was only one girl trying to serve 50+ people drinks. It took 45 minutes for our table to be given our drinks so that my uncle could go ahead with his speech and we could all toast. My dad was so upset. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon without a reservation, but were quickly shown to a table and drinks orders taken. The front of house service is top notch and we were attentively, but not overly, looked after throughout our visit. We were still in time to enjoy the extensive lunch menu which is available until 5pm. My wife had the special starter of smoked salmon with horseradish cream and pickled cucumber, which she found very appetising. I'm a mushroom fan, so had the mushrooms with poached egg on toast and hollandaise sauce. The poached egg met the test of being exactly the correct consistency. Mains quickly followed with my wife having the huge portion in the Haddock Supper - served on "newspaper". I enjoyed the Sunday Roast Beef with a large home-made Yorkshire Pudding and lots of roast potatoes, creamed potatoes and green veg. Unable to resist dessert I had my usual Dark Chocolate Bar and my wife asked for Ice Cream and Sauce (not on the menu) and we both enjoyed these. With a glass of wine and a brandy & lemonade added to the tab, the total bill was £46.90. Great food, great service. To be highly recommended. Only negative - the background music could be turned down a wee bit!

For starters three of us ordered the bread with oil can I just say the oil was disgusting it tasted rancid and we sent it back and so was left with dry bread and we had to ask for butter as we certainly didn't want to eat dry bread . My main coarse was ok I had the pork fillet with a potato cake. One of my friends had to send back the macaroni not hot enough another had the butternut squash with I think veg and you could have served it as a child's portion. Another friend asked for a small bottle of lemonade for her wine waitress said she would bring a jug which she proceeded to do and we were charged £6 odd for this ! Friend complained and was reduced to £3. Staff were good apologised for all the complaints but we will not be back .forgot about the coffee episode when we received our latte it was in the glass container with the milky part three quarters up the glass with the espresso sitting an inch on the top . Of course when you started to drink this you were drinking pure espresso . When we queried this were told that was how latte was served !!!!!!! We had to ask for spoon so we could stir all together and then it did taste good .

Have visited twice, the 1st time was with family members and we all really enjoyed our food and the server was very attentive and friendly, although some of the background music was probably more suited to a nightclub, but was soon rectified after a few of us mentioned it.On both occasions I ordered the muscles as a starter and it comes with a brioche roll for soaking up the sauce which is really tasty but unfortunately there was very little sauce the second time. I ordered the steak as a main and OH had the fish and chips which he did enjoy and my steak was cooked to my specified medium rare. The steak came on a slate with a metal pot with my chips and a ceramic jug with my red wine jus but was not advised that all (any) of these items were extremely hot so nearly burnt my fingers on the metal pot then again on the jug of sauce, although the slate plate may look nice I often find it impractical for food as the sauce ran off the plate and onto the table.(They also do NHS discount, I mentioned it when I on booked the table and showed my ID badge when asking for the bill)Will be back, but if having steak again I think I'll ask for a normal plate.

Came for lunch on a rare Monday off and really enjoyed the food. We had the soup and mushrooms on toast for starters and smoked haddock, steak pie and club sandwich for mains and all 3 of us really enjoyed our food it was fresh and really tasty. My only small complaint would be the wait for the food as we were the only customers in however it was definitely worth the wait and we will be back!

We went to the Drummond for a family meal for a birthday celebration...the only good thing was the starter which was mushrooms on toast .which was beautiful...so I was thinking this is a good start....despite being sat next to a room which held a party ..so we couldn't hear what our family were saying ...Main course came and the menu was quite limited so the guys had steak and the ladies all opted for sausage and mash....wish we hadn't of bothered. The sausages were very bland and what little mash we had all so had no taste....now I'm a Yorkshire lass so love my gravy...the gravy was sweet and thick and not to my taste....main course was a disaster. The dessert menu didn't have anything that any of the party fancied..So we settled for drinks I had a chocolate...even that was made with water and not milk....so for me I could of done a better job at home for half the price .....next time we will stick to the malt barn ....we didn't complain or make a fuss as by the time it came to leave we had enough of the music blaring and just wanted to get home ...

Had a very poor experience generally when visited for a meal last night. The service was terrible, we waited over 1 hour for our main course and then had to ask for our table to be cleared and if we could see the dessert menus. The waitresses just seemed uninterested and it wasn't as if the restaurant was really busy so there was no excuse. The food itself was a real disappointment. I chose the steak pie and it came with frozen untasty chips and unseasoned veg. The steak pie was made with a poor quality of meat, and I could make better myself. It frustrates me when you go out for a meal and you can make yourself far better at home. The other main courses weren't great either. Dirty cups for the tea and coffee, not good. It wasnt as if it was a cheap meal either, the steak pie was £11.95. Dirty cups for the tea and coffee, not good. Wont be back.

We stayed at the Drummonds hotel & Steakhouse for 2 nights. From the moment we stepped through the door the staff could not have done any more for us, so friendly, helpful and fussed over our 4 month year old baby making out first family trip a very special one. When taken to our room we noticed it only had a shower and not a bath, so we asked if it was possible to have a room with a bath. Within minutes we had new keys for the new room and moving was not a problem. The room was plenty big enough for us 2 and baby with everything you would need and expect from a hotel room, kettle tea, coffee, hairdryer, toiletries etc. Room was spotlessly clean and smelt lovely. 2 big windows flooding light into the room and was very quiet. We ate dinner in the restaurant that night, service impeccable, food delicious, atmosphere great! Breakfast in the mornings was amazing, full cooked breakfast, quick unprompted service again! Couldn't fault this hotel from start to finish, definitely deserves more than its current 3 stars! Will definitely return and recommend to family and friends! Well done Drummonds Hotel!!

Recently stayed for 2 nights and it was as expected from a 3 star hotel. Very clean, comfortable, and warm. Food served was fine, portions perhaps a bit on small side if you are talking value for money. Maybe it is because I am a local that there is a bit of bias creeping in here that makes me say the best part was the lovely welcoming staff who could not do enough for you.

Table for 4 booked for 2pm, food eventually arrived at 3.05pm. On arrival we were informed there was no steak pie, no haddock and no mashed potatoes. We suggested that by the time we had received and eaten our first course, chef would have had time to peel, boil and mash the potatoes, but the answer was that he would not. We ordered lentil soup and 25 minutes later received celery and pea soup (chef forgot to tell waiter that the lentil was finished!). We returned the soup and declined to order an alternative starter and simply asked for the mains to be served. 35 minutes later, still no food - so we advised we would be leaving in 5 mins if the food was not served quickly. It arrived. My pasta was without green beans because chef again had failed to advise he had run out!! All in all a quite terrible experience and we will never return. In their favour, the bar man/floor manager on that day did everything he could and was extremely apologetic but it was so appallingly bad, that even his apologies could not make a difference to how we felt. Waitress was a tad stroppy too when she came to collect the plates and asked "how was your food today" and we replied honestly, but politely that it was not good. She made no comment, lifted the plates and stomped off!!

Having had a great Christmas day lunch in 2014, we were looking forward to a similar experience in 2015. Well, how wrong we were!Firstly, we had previously asked to join our party of 7 with a party of 3 at the same table and were told this would be fine. When we arrived, our tables were still separate, with the table of 3 squashed between ours and another - thankfully the children sat there. as there was insufficient space for an adult.Food was a major disappointment. At +£20 for a childs meal lthat would normally cost a fiver, the children pre-ordered from the adult menu...starters for all were tiny and basically looked as though they had been thrown together - a little bit of rocket on the side as garnish! Soup was luke warm at best!Kids ordered steaks (medium) from the adult menu. Cremated is an understatement. All our steaks were dry and pretty much inedible to the point we had to ask for a sauce. Turkey was like a slice you'd buy from the cold meat counter in Morrisons. Parsnips were rock hard - you couldn't even cut through them with a knife, let alone eat them - replacements were provided as a token gesture.Desserts were edible, coffee was cold! When asked how our meal was by the lady serving coffee, we replied not good, she replied "oh, I won't ask then"!Up until this point, we have been regular diners at Drummonds and to be honest have never had an issue with the food, but c'mon guys...we paid premium prices for a less than mediocre meal (that was on the function menu at almost half the cost). Clearly we were unhappy at the time and complained a couple of times, yet no-one showed interest. We will struggle to come back!

My husband and I fancied some steak, so we found this little restaurant not far from where we were staying. We both had a rump steak with chips, onion rings, rocket, tomatoes and mushrooms. The steak was not done exactly how we had asked for it (it was medium as opposed to well done) but it was amazing. Extremely tender and tasty. The service was great too and so was the atmosphere and decoration. It was reasonably priced and we totally recommend it.

Visited Drummonds for a catch up with family and friends, great selection of food on the menu and at reasonably good prices aswell. The menu had loads to choose from and certainly was something for everyone, myself personally had the Balti Curry with rice and nan bread and this was delicious.I have to stay my Dad ordered the half roast chicken and was thoroughly surprised at the portion size,he does have a big appetite but on this occasion he just couldn't manage it all as the portion size was massive - very impressed. The presentation of the food was excellent aswell.Out of the 6 of us not one of us could complain about anything, the service was very good aswell as we weren't made to feel rushed, even after our meal we were allowed to move to more comfortable seats in front of the bar.A couple of the party decided to have a cocktail and were again very impressed with the choice on offer, the presentation and the taste of them.First visit since this place was taken over and certainly wont be the last,it has everything you could possibly ask.

I come in here for a drink sometimes and it is a fine place to go in the area. For food my last visit was a family meal for a Sunday roast about a year ago that my mum describes as the worst meal she has ever had. With those words haunting me, my friend and I had a meal here on Friday night. Picking smart from the menu and realising this place is going to be basic then it is okay. Average service and some daft serving mistakes I have come to expect at Drummonds. Example this time round was that my chips came in a funny metal cone stand that had a little dish attached for sauce but they had just left it empty. This restaurant is pub grub done fine and I think it would be sensible for them to move away from the image they are trying to sell of a fairly high end professional steakhouse. I would be very surprised to hear that anyone had ordered the chateaubriand from this place.
