Nicely placed in Knaresborough centre I asked for small chips and gravy. It really was a small portion as opposed to a regular portion. So be mindful of this when ordering. Overall, good quality child and tasty gravy.

I never like to be negative but I've just stood there for several minutes being completely ignored and no one even acknowledging me let alone taking my order. It's not even very busy (two other sets of customers who had ordered but appeared quite frustrated with slow service) and I'm usually more than happy to wait but no acknowledgement at all let alone 'be with you in a minute' is really poor service. If they don't want to take my order then fair enough, I'm going elsewhere. I'd suggest they may want to brush up on basic customer service and at least acknowledge the existence of customers wishing to give them money.

Called in whilst at Knaresborough. Had seen their online menu (a downloadable PDF) and they had a special on for just over a tenner. Well, once sat down and reviewing the actual menu the special was now just under £20, heck of an increase. Good sized portion but everything was just a bit too greasy for us. Too expensive all things considered. They really need to update the prices they list online.

Great chips and mushy peas. Apart from them there are NO vegetarian options. Not even a cheese and onion pie. Losing out there.

4 of us went for a meal Thursday the 11 of July in the knareborough take away.It was poor. soggy batter, scrappy chips,yellow dripping on plate,(not changed or cleaned) bread and margarine not butter as on menu.Chatged more than on menu.Altogether poor.Dont waste your money.

The best fish & chip restaurant. The fish is amazingly fresh & the staff are so very friendly & helpful. I always ask for a light batter which the fryer is more than happy to provide. Excellent, you will not be disappointed.

Genuinely top three fish & chips we've ever eaten, and we've eaten a lot..of fish and chips 😂 Batter on the haddock was the most perfectly crisp seasoned fish and the chips didn't look much on opening but my goodness were they ace. No soggy rubbish chips just crisp soft heaven on a plate. Get the mushy peas. Not optional. Trust me. We took out to go to watch the euros in a b&b nearby and it took everything in us to not go back the second night of our holiday! Hats off to the staff 👏 kind and efficient, you've officially ruined any future chippies I couldve potentially enjoyed (it won't be as good)

I have lived in Knaresborough for most of my life and have been to this place alot always thinking that the next time will be better but it never is! I can not give this place even one star for its food. I never write reviews but am fed up of this place being able to get away with its awful food just because of its location. If you order online and ask for a battered sausage you will not recieve one In fact you'll be lucky if you get half your order. When you collect or eat in the Batter is always soggy whether it be fish or sausage. A portion of large chips is £5 but there so wet and oily you end up with mash potatoes near enough. On top of this it all has the most greasy texture! Do your self a favour don't go here, you'd be better off walking to the bottom of the hill near asda petrol station, next to dawn till dusk and give your hard earned money to JR'S fish and chips where you get quality food cheaper. #boycotdrakes

I live locally and we have been buying fish and chips from Drakes for the past 2 years and really enjoy the food. However, every time you go in there, you aren’t acknowledged or asked whether you have been served. There is no system to check whether you are ordering there or have ordered through Just Eat. They are clearly understaffed and busy but, on this occasion, the staff member was rude to me. They need a more efficient system, for the sake of customers, their reviews and the staff.

The best fish and chips there are! Both the takeaway and restaurant are fantastic. 100% recommend!

Expensive for what we paid for. The food was nice but restaurant was outdated and dark. The staff were having a disagreement or a heated discussion that could have been done in the kitchen. The atmosphere because of it was very hostile.

Must have used these on a bad day, going by the reviews here. Best in the UK? Not even close to the best in the area. Chips were just greasy mush and although the fish tasted nice, the batter was so soft and greasy. Won't be using them again.

The food just wasn't good. The waitress served us food but we didn't get cutlery. We had to ask for everything ourselves. One of the dishes came back to the kitchen twice and it still wasn't done right It was just a waste of time and money.

Ordered a delivery as an early treat for mother's day/my mum's birthday. Ordered a beef burger meal, described as a double burger with cheese onion rings and chips, was only a single burger. Ordered a chicken burger meal which was meant to come with onion rings and chips, came with a single tiny chicken burger in a massive bun, no onion rings, no chips (FOR £10!!). Had to share one tiny portion of chips between three of us, paid nearly £35 for us all to still be hungry. The fish bites we ordered were the only thing that was right. Staff were very unhelpful on the phone. Claiming the chicken burger doesn't come with onion rings or chips even when the description for "chicken burger meal" states it does. I understand they can't send a redelivery of food out with it being a third party delivery company but honestly an absolute joke. What happened to checking orders before they're being sent out?! Fuming, will never order a drakes again.

I Never normally leave reviews as I don't agree with them, I called in lunch time today(Tuesday) had take out fish and chips. It was the worst I've had in a very long time, fish was very small, overcooked and the batter was disgusting absolute waste of over £8 definitely won't be returning.

Lovely food and service, cooked fresh so there was a short wait but I don't mind that. The Haddock was lovely, nice chips, mushy peas were slightly sweet, I'd prefer them without sugar in, nice homemade tartar sauce. Not the cheapest I've had but probably about the going rate for a quality sit in establishment, we'd definitely go again, no complaints from us.

We really enjoyed our visit to Drakes after watching the England v Wales rugby game in the local pub. Staff and service very good and the FISH was wonderful.We'll definitely be back.

Good food in a large nicely furnished restaurant.

We had pensioners fish and chips and it was huge. It was delicious. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Well done girls, you're a credit to the company. Will definitely go again.

Fish cake not good fish with sliced uncooked potatoes on top then deep fried in batter not good at all. Don’t waste your money feel sick as a dog now my husband had fish & chips not the best either not cheap still cost £26 Won’t be returning

We had just walked from up the road in Harrogate and visited the christmas tree exhibition at St Johns church, visited painting pots and headed to Drakes for Tea. The restaurant was quiet so for the first time in my near 50 years of living locally, we decided to go sit down and have chippy tea with a beer/cider. I couldn't recommend it enough, the staff were lovely, there is no hint of 'service charge' or would you like to leave a tip if you pay by card so just bear in mind if they offer great service (they did in our case)!

Visited yesterday fish and chips twice one being gluten free one normal once arrived the gluten free had a blob of curry sauce on chips we didn't order curry sauce. Also some of the chips was overcooked fish was lovely wasn't the best service waitress walked away while trying to ask her something anyway we eat the food paid and went .don't think jamie the owner would be happy.

So… ordered a takeaway through just eat…. Part of the order turned up! Part was very wrong… I ordered southern fried chicken and chips £10:40… which I received and all I can describe as chicken nuggets!…5 pieces. No chips 🤷‍♀️ I complained and was told it was just eats fault and I can get a bag of chips delivered in the hour!!!… or free fish and chips next time..I was starving so opted for the other… and made toast instead! 🙈 I may call in but delivery is because I like delivery…. Chinese next time me thinks! 🤔

Nipped in here for lunch on Sunday . We had such a lovely polite young man take our order . I think his name was Matthew. The food was beautiful . They had no cod but we were just as happy with the haddock . Best fish ive ever had ,the batter was light and crispy . Lovely place . Would highly recommend and if we are ever back up that way ,we will definately go back

Two Haddock and chips. Dripping with oil, very greasy. Tasted like old oil. Had to throw most of it away , inedible Disappointed . Probably the worst I have ever had

Extremely poor service. Slow and quite rude. Food not great. Example of service; after eating food (Which was poor service, bad food and wrong orders given!) I went back in and purchased a coffee. The guy serving food shouted someone else to come and make which was fair enough. Until after ten minutes when he did come and make a coffee which I expected was for me, he walked away with it and started drinking it himself!

Good quality food, but at a price. Not as busy as it used to be, perhaps due to the ever increasing prices, even the mushy peas are now about £1.70 for a small tub.

The haddock and the plaice were both very good. All the staff were nice and service was quick. I marked the atmosphere down as it felt in need of an update, but don't let that put you off. The meals were excellent and well priced.

Went just after 10pm to be told was closed even though advertised till 11pm so was not happy

Always a nice treat to sit in for a Drake's fish and chips. I know you're paying for it but in the price including tea|coffee and bread&butter with the mains does make it feel a bit more special and traditional.

The food appeared to have been re-cooked. The batter was oily and the chips thin, overcooked and oily. I think the chips may have been refried. I definitely would not use this restaurant again. We complained to the staff about the quality of the food but they seemed disinterested and we had to pay full cost. A very disappointing meal

Ok but great/good cannot recommend as my order was incorrect and chips were really oily like the fryer was not hot enough or had been sitting too long. FYI No vegetarian options bar chips(w/cheese)

Great fish and chips and the mushy peas are the best. Been going to Drake's for over 20 years whenever I visit Knaresborough. Had gluten-free batter this time and it was gorgeous. Very tasty and crispy. Friendly helpful service as always.

Visited knaresbourough for day ,popped into drakes wirh my family ,fish was hot and freshly cooked, chips very good too, well worth the money, also thrown in was tea, coffee and breaf and butter, also i got discount for senior price , well done drakes , 10 outta 10 from me

Open on Sundays when most others are shut which is handy

0 stars was not an option otherwise that's what it would have got. Mould on breadbun didn't seem to phase the server he rudely took the top the broadband used his whole hand to replace only the top.that was visibly covered in thick green Mould. I said I'm not having it that I'd been put off and wanted a refund not a replacement. Took 5 minutes to get the refund with not a sorry from anyone. How disgusting serving mouldy food, I dread to think what the filthy kitchens like in the back

We have been going to Drakes takeaway for years when we frequently visit Knaresborough this time we decided to eat in the restaurant and I am so sorry we made this decision first of all we were not allowed to sit in the seat we went to when we arrived the waitress informed us she had just mopped we then sat on another seat which was a squeeze as it was under the stairs and awkward for seating when it came to order the waitress was most unhelpful and not very friendly when we asked for cid she advised in a nasty manor they only had haddock I would never return to the restaurant part again although I have her had a issue with the takeaway side they definitely need to improve on their attitude especially with the price they charge we felt as though the waitress was annoyed we had turned up as it was not very busy and she had to do a bit of her job

Best fish and chips in the area, the gluten free option is actually gluten free

Not an experience I will repeat.had to wait longer than is acceptable, too much batter which had become hard and brittle, chips were all bits and not freshly prepared. I believe they had been left over . Staff were miserable, not a smile or a welcome from anyone. Give it a miss.

Lovely food, prices are good too. We haven't eaten in, but the dinning area looks nice. My only issue is if it's a little busy, you will probably end up queuing outside, not great if jts raining.

🤮 MOULD!!! Gave my diabetic friend a mouldy breadcake. Friend returned, explained what had happened and how it can make him seriously ill due to his diabetes. Order was replaced and despite asking it to be checked, they gave my friend another mouldy bun. Order was refunded however mouldy food should not be there to be served and it certainly shouldn't be happening twice in a row or after it has been Brough to staffs attention.

My wife and I have just eaten a lovely meal in the restaurant. The fish was really nice with very light batter, the apple pie was also generous in portion size and very tasty. We thought it was homemade but was told that it was bought in. Or server was very friendly, helpful and pleasant. We are from Cheshire so if we are in the area again we would definitely pay a visit. I've given it a 2*, but I want to explain why. Drake's has a restaurant and a takeaway. The restaurant I would easily give 5* to, as I've never had any issues when dining in there. The food at the restaurant is great, with decent portion sizes and friendly waiting staff. HOWEVER, the takeaway side of the business leaves a lot to be desired. I've had several orders missing items, and my most recent order arrived with some food items being cold, like they'd been left on the counter for a while. I could not recommend ordering a delivery from the takeaway side of Drake's, but I definitely do recommend the restaurant.

One of the nicest fish n chips I had in the UK! Food was hot and freshly fried. Main courses come with tea with milk and butter on bread as well. More expensive to eat in but if you order takeaway, the food would be of very good value for the price!

Staff very friendly fish and chips were superb as usual can certainly recommend this fish shop the quality never lets them down. Have been going here for over 20years.

Was a snowy day in Knaresborough so I took my grandson in Drakes restaurant to get out of the cold and have a warm meal. I had fish and chips and grandson had a portion of chips . Staff lovely and welcoming. Food tasty .

Happened to be in Knaresborough and spotted this place, so called in by chance at lunchtime. Very friendly staff, and great fish and chips - really enjoyed the meal and would definitely come back.

Adult portions are getting smaller, £3-50 two cans.

Just spent £4.20p on the scrattiest 'large ' chips ,very disappointed.

Food was delicious. Great choice, for children and adults and the price is shown in the quality of food. Good portion sizes. The children's size is fabulous- although too big for my children -6/9/11 Well managed, plenty of seating for larger families. Server was efficient, polite and friendly.

First time in Knaresborough for a while and whilst taking in the Christmas market thought we'd grab a bit to eat. Seeing as you can't beat a good portion of Fish & Chips we thought we'd try Drakes. Nothing negative to say great service, lovely food and a good portion size. We had our 11 month old with imus and they were accommodating with our needs of an extra plate and high chair. Would definitely go back if I was in the area.

!!!! AVOID !!!! If you plan on going to a fish and chips shop in Knaresborough there are 4 within walking distance of each other. Go to ANY of them that IS NOT this one as I promise you will be left disappointed with price and quality. In my past 5 visits I've had to return to the store due to incorrect items, poorly cooked food, half battered food, and sausages that still have a considerable amount of flour between the sausage and batter. Literally feels like chewing on grit with a dry mouth. Considering their prices and how often this happens I think its safe to say they don't look to be changing anytime soon. Due to the frequency I simply cannot be bothered to return the food AGAIN and I will not be returning to this store without intervention from management. I'm hoping somebody reaches out to me after this review to resolve this issue and if so I will happily update this review however I am simply fed up of making complaints time and time again. If this store values their customers and their reviews I'm sure there should be no issue them responding to this review to begin resolving these consistent issues UPDATE: after a week of this review and contacting the store directly I've had no response regarding this issue. This has shown me how little they care about their customers. Because of this I won't be returning at all

Good food, friendly and welcoming staff.

We ate in the restaurant and my husband ordered haddock and chips and I ordered scampi and chips and neither of us have ever eaten better. Everything was cooked to perfection and the batter was lovely and crispy. Service was quick and the servers attentive. If we are ever in Knaresborough again we will definitely eat here.

If you want fish and chips in Knaresborough then this is place to go! Very friendly staff and affordable food for all!
