Dozo in Kensington and Chelsea

I will say, i have been going to this restaurant for over 7 years around once a year and i notice the quantities and the quality going down over time which is not ideal. For instance, they change the recipe for chicken teriyaki which the new one is less enjoyable to eat. I have been today 11th February 2025, i must say the presentation remains impeccable, how the chicken was hard to bite and overcooked in some areas, making hard to eat. I am disappointed a restaurant that wasy go to for the chicken teriyaki bento that the price increase hasn't kept its quality. However, for lunch time still a good combination of quality for money so still above the average standards in the area

Overwhelming choice as expected and the food is top notch. Service is excellent but the place is crowded at all times. Go at lunch for the ramen deal!

Went during the weekday for lunch and it was great! Everything tasted amazing and service was very fast!

The place is quite nice (especially the low tables), and food was good, however: 1. Is very expensive for the quantity 2. Most of the staff did not speak English, what's worse they just addressed us in japanese (?) and didn't even bother calling another waiter or trying to explain some other way (simpler words, gestures ?). To finally understand anything it was up to us figuring out the only waiter that spoke English and going up directly to her. Also not recommended if you have intolerances or other "softer" dietary restriction, as the staff is not clear on (or doesn't know) the ingredients in the dishes. When we asked if shellfish were used in the complimentary fish broth that was served to us upon seating, they (or rather , the third waiter we called, as the first 2 just kept speaking to us in japanese) just said that the main ingredient was fish powder, without giving a definitive answer to our original (and more pressing) question. Hopefully they have stricter requirements in place for allergies.

Excellent food and service. Reasonably priced cocktails and very extensive menu to choose from with a variety of hot and cold dishes. The grilled eel was a highlight, melt in the mouth. The black truffle gyoza were perfectly crisp. The sushi rolls were huge and very fresh. We loved the Australian Waygu. Each dish arrived really efficiently too. Would definitely return to try more of the menu items.

RUDE STAFF!!! I attend Dozo few days ago, the food was good, staffs are nice. We’ve got the bill when we finish, after payment, we were just putting our clothes on while chatting, however, a male staff wearing white shirt and glasses( I assuming manager? ) came to us and directly ask us to leave because the next reservation is here???. We have the reservation at 17:30, it’s only been an hour since we sat down, there’s no way that the time limit for dinner is only an hour. I never encountered where you actually made reservation and the restaurant is trying to throw you out after only one hour. Besides, there are other tables who came before us and he never ever rushed them. I wonder the reason why? We’ve ordered £160+ for two of us and this is not the service I deserve.

The place is lovely. Nice atmosphere, music and sitting. The food was good but not unforgettable. If in the area, I would go back though.

Highly recommend! I went around 6:30 in the evening and waited about 15 minutes. The staff were very efficient and attentive; I did not get hectic vibes even with a full house and a consistent queue outside. Highlights were the ramen, Volcano Maki, Sashimi set, and Unagi. The Summer Roll needs more texture and the tamago could be more flavorful. The lighting makes it hard to read the menu. The menu could also be condensed to save table space. Overall, delicious and quality dinner, I would come back just for the ramen and to try other dishes of course!

A very cosy and warm atmosphere with on the floor, closely situated seating, booked in advance as we heard it was busy, would recommend a booking, were encouraged to give the table back after an hour and 15 minutes which was just enough time to try an array of food including wagyu beef, black tiger tempura prawns and spicey soft shell crab sushi to name a few, large array of traditional Japanese drinks menu as well, 2 floor restaurant with attentive and efficient staff, would definitely go back.

Beef ramen swimming in oil, feel completely ill after having a few mouthfuls! Really unhelpful rude staff.

I can safely say that this restaurant was one of the best places for sushi that I’ve ever been in London. The sushi was sooo fresh and tasty. They have such a big selection of dishes that it’s so hard to decide what you want to try. The food arrived on time as well even though it was busy. The place is always so busy so I recommend booking a table. I’m definitely going back there :-)

It is a good choice for its genre. The desserts are a bit expensive for the size but the food is worth the money.

Been going to Dozo for many years, seems as though they have recently changed owner, all the staff are different. Has become and tourist trap & trying to scam people into paying more. Shout out for Dozo because of doing a great job. One of the most famous Japanese restaurants in London that you must try when visiting. Fresh, good quality and approachable. The location is perfect that is in the hustle center. Staff are so nice and gentle like the way Japanese do. "Volcano" is the best seller. So why not to get it straight away. You don't feel sad after that for sure. Everything is so good except for fatty tuna. Sorry, it's not my taste. First time but very nice experience. High recommend and properly will come back soon !!!

A two-story shop that serves good food, but mildly expensive. I had the mince pork ramen (Spicy Tantan) 🍜 on a cold winter night. Lovely broth. Instantly warms your body up. Standard mince pork. The portion is a bit small I think. A bit spicy, not too much. Also had the spicy pork skewers (Buta) 🍡. They come in a set of 2. Really nice and crispy. Have them while they are hot! They have the funky Japanese-style hollow table seatings, but normal tables are also available, if you're not comfortable with those. If you sit in one of those hollow tables in a corner, it can be a bit tricky getting in and out. It can get a bit busy at dinner. Reservation is possible up to one day before, and each time you are allotted ~2hr-ish eating time. Small and cozy shop with 2 floors. Very central location. Grab some post-meal desserts from the many dessert shops around the area. All-in-all, worth a try I think but be mindful of the price. Check out their menu beforehand!

Used to frequent here as a student. But during my last visit in November 2024, we were down with severe food poisoning after dining here and missed our flight to Rome. Called to tell the restaurant the same, did not expect compensation from them whatsoever, but they were extremely defensive and denied it entirely. Take your chance to eat here but you have been warned!

Dangerous Korean/Japanese restaurant It is distinguished by its sessions that give you the impression that they are floor sessions. The atmosphere makes you feel like you are in a Korean restaurant The menu is full and varied, and to be honest, the choice is confusing. The food on the other hand is delicious 10/10 The prices are very average The restaurant requires prior reservation, but I was one person and they accepted me and let me in. The service is good and orders go out quickly Delicious and I recommend using it

came on 2nd January for the lunch set, staff told us it was not available because it is a bank holiday - one search and i can tell you it is not. i have always found establishments that deny promotional items due to made up conditions questionable. otherwise, the gyu don was decent and flavourful, some pieces of beef were slightly tough. salmon don took a while to serve - i don’t think i will be back

The sushi restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere and fresh, delicious sushi. However, the cups had a fishy smell, which slightly detracted from the experience. With a bit more attention to detail, it could be excellent.

Great food & lovely menus where the images are aside all the food options. Real cool set up with the seating, adds to the Japanese atmosphere but honestly really difficult to get in the seat. Been there before and got the bento box before which was good. The lunchtime deal was a good value.

Their portion has gotten so small. I've been to dozo many many times and each time I order this volcano sushi. This dish now costs £20, the portion has shrunk by 20-30% compared with about a month ago. It still tastes good but the size makes me feel scammed.

Always lovely at Dozo. Can be a bit spenny but compared to some other sushi spots in London, worth the dollar. Bento boxes are good value but the main and nigiri are as good as you’ll get in the city.

It's an average Japanese run by Chinese people. You pay for the location more than the food. Good deals during lunch time, not worth it during the evening.

9/11/2024-Saturday. My friend gave me a lunch treated at this sushi restaurant in Soho, London. I am very impressed with the authentic layout of the table seating.. The service is excellent. Our food orders were served out very quickly. The sushi is very fresh. Price is reasonable and has many choices to choose from. I really enjoyed the sushi there. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very delicious food, and the sashimi is very fresh.

A total scam! The noodles they serve are clearly instant noodles that you can buy in a shop for less than one pound. While we are sold the idea that the restaurant is Japanese, all the employees and the manager are Chinese. When I asked for a student discount, they said they can only provide if I pay in cash, which to me seems a very shady policy just to avoid the taxes…

The waiter first tried to bring a more expensive drink than what we ordered. Then the noodles are totally instant noodle that they charged 13.9 pounds plus 12.5% service fee. Despite promoting themselves as Japanese restaurant the waiters are all Chinese, the food is just a scam to white people who never went to Asia. At the end we asked for student discount but they refused by saying only accept cash if use student discount. That I don’t recall any UK law enforced this, I think it’s a way of avoiding tax.

A quick lunch here today with a salmon teriyaki bento. The food was good as always. And the staff are much nicer than a few years ago. It's the best Japanese place in London. The only pity is that the miso soup broth base wasn't the vegan option. Hope they will do the miso seafood ramen🍜 in further.

Worst service I've received in a long time. Me and my friend feel rushed out, plates were collected, and we're asked to pay for the bill literally within 3 minutes of us finishing our food. Horrible!!

Usually love Dozo and it was my go-to Japanese place in London but recently was super let down with the sashimi don I ordered - it wasn't cheap and as you can see from the picture, they were SO stingy with the portions of fish (ONE slice each) and I also got the nub end of the tuna - not even a proper slice!! Felt super scammed 😭 Genuinely pains me to write a bad review of this place, but I expected a lot more from Dozo ngl.

I cannot stress what a great deal the lunch special was. Excellent quality for the price, and the restaurant itself was very charming.

The seating type is so unique! If you can, try and sit on the mats, it makes a whole other experience! The food is so delicious and you can tell the sushi is authentic. And the prices is so worth it for everything!

I want to specifically highlight that, this time, the real stars were the two amazing servers —— a charming guy with glasses and a wonderfully professional lady—— we had during 14:00-14:30 Friday 20/09/2024 , ground floor. They are super professional and attentive in their regular routines, and they had their charming vibe that really brought the service to a higher level :)! P.S., if the manager or anyone in charge sees this, pls pass along my gratitude and compliments! Also, thank you guys for running such an amazing restaurant. Especially recommended! I have been here several times before, and every time the food, environment and service are excellent, and the price/performance ratio is super high! This time I want to especially praise the two staff members who served my friend and I (20/09/2024 Friday 14:00-14:30) - a man wearing glasses and a tall man working on the first floor. The taller ladies - they are really professional and attentive! And very personal charm, which brings the professional service to a higher level. There was an incident in the middle, especially this man with a very high emotional intelligence, hahahaha, which gave my friend and I a very interesting and unforgettable dining experience! Amazing experience, good vibes, food so tasty and original

Tonkotsu broth is bland. The "ramen" is generic egg noodles. The karaage sauce and caramelisation is 10/10 though. Great mood and setting. Just ... not authentic Japanese and below average broth.

Whether you're a fan of Japanese cuisine or trying it for the first time, Dozo is a must-visit. I'll definitely be returning to try more of their delicious offerings!

Honestly the food is good. Although they had a fair expensive price. But the service is really poor I think. It’s not too busy at the moment but The waiter turned an indifferent face all the time to us. What’s more, another waiter just kept urging us to return the plate and pay the bills even when we were still eating our food. Not a very pleasant experience indeed👎🏻

It was crowded with guests the day we visited, so it might be a reason why we did not receive much of a quality service that we would normally expect from a Japanese restaurant. Also the sushimi lacked a bit of freshness.

We had spicy beef ramen, truffle gyozas and donburi bowl with pork. Beef was very juicy and tasty meat, but broth didn’t have much taste so had to pour some soya sauce to have more intense flavour. Truffle gyozas were 10/10, really recommend it. Donburi bowl wasn’t great, I would give 6/10.

Food and non alcoholic cocktail was so good

Used to be my go to place for sushi fix, but it has gone down in quality. Went there on Saturday evening a few weeks ago, told that there is no scallop, uni, or botan ebi. Ordered fatty tunna at high price, got some dark looking tasteless stringy cuts, I complained and it was replaced but the waiter was obviously not very happy about it.

It's near our clinic, one of best lunch place in Soho. Good always good, never disappointed.

One of the coolest restaurants I’ve ever been to. Never seen anything like it before. Food was amazing with great prices. £44 for two of us at dinner time and we left with full bellies. Will definitely be back.

This is my second visit and i have to say i’m very disappointed with the food quality. I ordered the Tekka Don, and when the food came in the sashimi was in dark-odd colour with fuzzy bits in there. The portion was smaller in comparison. The dinning environment was great and the service was fast though. I really hope there’s an improvement on the food.

Nothing special. Service was average, and one of the waiters had a slight attitude problem. The venue felt crowded. The food was edible but nothing special, and far from authentic. The salmon did not taste fresh. It was a huge shame that so many menu items were unavailable such as enoki, uni, scallops, and tuna tartare - especially as we arrived at the start of dinner service! Overall, I wouldn’t return.

Great value of lunch deals with central London location. Great Japanese izakaya vibes. The staffs were friendly and attentive. Authentic flavours.

Dozo is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in London. Their spicy beef ramen and unagi fried rice are absolutely the best. The staff is also very friendly.

Been coming to Dozo for the past few years, and it gives me mixed feelings. This spot is one of my favourite Japanese restaurants however, their service is questionable. Feels unwelcoming. I have tried many of their options, from lunch menus to ramen, sushi to sashimi, and alcohol. All of the food are excellent quality as always. Though every visit, the waiters can be quite rude or agreesive. Especially this one particular older woman, she always seems like she is in a bad mood and forced to work there. Never smiled once; I feel like she was never happy to serve anybody, even any other table. As I try to be on the best of my behaviour every visit, even bowing and showing my respect; I could hear them speak Cantonese and feel the hostility. Few of the occasions being: 1 / Booked a table for 3 and was forced to wait 20 minutes after our booking time. This is so that one of the tables could finish. Why bother booking in the first place? Served by the same older lady. 2 / Once having ordered my dish, the wait time was very long. They were busy but it's understandable. However, once everybody else received their food, I didn't get my order - served by the same older lady, who took my order. I waited 10 minutes after and asked her, she responded in a rude tone, saying I had to wait. Anyways, I asked a different waitress 20 minutes later, she was nice but she said she check that for me. Total waiting 40 minutes AFTER all of my friends had finished their food. (Not including wait time in total). Overall, the service is appalling, they are not doing purposefully but at least have some respect amongst everybody. I did not dare to ask that older lady for the bill. Very rude. Though that does not stop me from coming to Dozo, I can sacrifice experiencing the service for excellent food. 3-4 stars overall. Easy 5 if they did something about the service, seeing other reviews have the same issue.

I'd thought I give this place a go as the food looked visually stunning and it's popular on 小红书/Little Red Book app but the visuals are all they have got to offer. If you want authentic Japanese cuisine or even any Japanese cuisine with flavour, you won't find it here. As walk-in customers, we were only given an hour time slot but the staff gave other walk-in customers that came after us more than an hour?? 🤨 By the time the food arrived, we were only left with less half an hour to eat. The volcano maki that is understandably their bestseller tasted wonderful and full of flavour from the cream. I couldn't say the same for the rest of the dishes that came after: Spicy chicken ramen, wagyu beef maki and unagi don. It all tasted lacklustre and gave me an extremely bad stomach ache soon after - most likely due to rushed service and subpar food. The service was also mediocre and uninviting. Overall, it's overpriced, not worth queuing for or the hype. 😒

Unfortunately not the best experience here at Dozo, food was good but a bit expensive compared to more authentic counterparts and I found a long blonde hair in my roll (for reference I have dark curly brunette hair and my friend has black long hair). As it was wrapped in my roll, I had to pull the hair out of my mouth and felt very sick. Told the manager who said it was asparagus (?) and sometimes it resembles hair but once he realised himself how unlikely that reasoning was after holding the blonde hair up to the light (weird?) he bought another plate of rolls for us. Felt quite unwell afterwards. Also atmosphere is fine but very awkward when people go to and from the bathroom having to have my friend get up every-time (as it’s narrow floor seating). We left disappointed and sadly won’t be coming back.

We recently travelled to London for a West End Theatre trip, and were excited to visit this Gem of a restaurant, conveniently located nearby in Soho. We Ate... 🍴Black Truffle Gyoza 🍴Shiitake Skewers 🍴Nasu Dengaku 🍴Agedashi Tofu 🍴Lamb Chops 🍴Yaki Hotate 🍴Maguro Tataki We Drank... 🍹Ginza Yuzu Cocktail 🍋 Fresh Lemonade with Mint We were absolutely blown away by this dining experience! The restaurant provides the experience of traditional recessed horigotatsu seating along with friendly and attentive customer service. The large menu has pictures of all the dishes, to help you in your selection if you are not so familiar with menu items. We tried a large range of veggie and non veggie items from the menu and we're blown away by every single dish. Literally every mouthful was so flavourful, with delicious textures and all the umami! We will definitely be returning to this one 👀

Sometimes the quality of food or service misses the mark at quiet lunch times due to complacency, but overall it's a good restaurant.

In all honesty, Dozo serve some really tasty sushi! Prices are fair too. Although it could take some time for the sushi to arrive
