Save the great british chip shop. Great old fashioned chip shop, hope it survives the high cost of fuel that has put so many chippies out of business.

Great fish and chips, very typical traditional fish and chip shop. It was extremely busy but managed to give a swift service. Only 2 front of house and very impressive. Thoroughly recommend

Always lovely chips, fresh and tasty with decent sized portions too. I visit around twice per month and consistently good. Sadly always short staffed so a long wait even for a single portion of chips and the speaking and shouting at one another in Polish can feel a little intimating. I am very pro using cash and a anti cashless society but when a business only takes cash its usually to avoid tax. Nearest cash machine is at Co-Op which is a 8 min walk away or 2 min drive.

Whilst staying at Sandy Balls we fancied fish and chips for dinner one night and searched for the local outlets. Having been warned off the one in Fordingbridge having after reading the terrible TA reviews, we decided to go out of our way and drive up to Downton to Spinnakers as it's now called. What a good decision! The fish was really good! Large and really flakey and tasty. Loads of trips and decent curry sauce. All in all would thoroughly recommend. Note: they only take cash, however they kindly took the order from my wife and prepared it while we went off to the cash point. Definitely returning when in the area again.

Do not use this fish and chip shop staff was very abusive. after collecting our order once home there was a piece of fish missing, so went back down to receive a very threatening member of staff being very abusive and calling us a lier,

Twice a month we treat ourselves. Huge portions, even I can't finish. Beautifully cooked fish, perfect batter and chips spot on. Always get a cheeky spam fritter which I hide from my wife.

Food was great, didn't have to wait to long. You get so many chips we couldn't eat them all, and the Mrs couldn't finish her fish as was really big 5stars from us

After waiting patiently 50 minutes for 1 large cod and 1 small chips I asked politely when my order would be ready as I’d been waiting nearly an hour. The little man serving refused to believe I’d been waiting that long, called me a liar and then served yet another customer who’d come in after me. He then shouted that he’d give me my money back and I could go elsewhere!! Other customers including 2 police officers confirmed that I’d been in the chippie when they arrived. He didn’t apologise and slammed my order on the counter!! Unfortunately the fish was over cooked and rather greasy, although the chips were fine and plentiful. I realise that they were exceptionally busy that evening but there’s no excuse for rudeness and I won’t be going again.

Jumbo cod and the plaice were excellent and thoroughly enjoyed with chips and pea fritters by 4 people.

Weekend break at sandyballs holiday park. Decided on fish supper. Superb quality and portions huge compared to our local chippy. Would highly recommend and next time we go racing at Salisbury will pop in for lunch. Friendly staff. Worth travelling to visit.

Travelled to Downton with my partner. We stayed next do to Spinnaker’s and grabbed some food on the way back from the pub. Really friendly, nice people, and did a great fish and chips. The battered sausage was also really good.

Staying nearby thought we'd have takeaway as tired after long walk. The chips were the nicest I've had from a takeaway for a long time retaining their crispness when we got them back to our cottage.

Lovely fish and chips. Avoid Friday evening if you can, very busy and chips can sometimes be a bit soggy, still taste great but texture could be better.

The fish and chips can vary between really good and acceptable. Mostly, they are pretty good. There is always a wait, this means your order is cooked fresh. Prices are about average, so you won’t be getting ripped off.

Walking back from the pub with the dogs and I could not resist the lovely smell coming from this fish & chip shop. The staff were great and came outside to take my order as I had two dogs with me. Really pleased that I succumbed to the enticing aromas as the cod, chips and mushy peas were really excellent. Well worth a visit if you are nearby.

Had a wonderful takeaway from the spinnaker when visiting the area last week. Both the cod and plaice were huge, and a large portion of chips was too much even for two people! All cooked to order, there was a bit of a wait when we were there but the queue is testament to the quality!

We are local and visit Spinnaker regularly. The food is consistently excellent. We have never had a bad meal in the past four years. The quality & quantity is excellent. Highly recommend!

Quizás hace un año en este chippy era magnífico. Entonces el anciano tío que lo dirigía estaba enfermo y la calidad de picado. La comida se convirtió en extremadamente grasosa y en una ocasión el aceite en el fondo de la bolsa era de alrededor de un cuarto de pulgada de profundidad. No hace falta decir que nos fuimos a otro lado.

Been going here ever since we moved down south 7 years ago, The quality of food is fantastic, the portions are MORE than generous , and service i always with a smile. I would highly recommend the Spinnaker Fish Bar to anyonelocal or visiting.

We live in the village, so we have something from here most weeks, there very friendly, and the portions are very good, we have a large chips and it dose two people easily, and on a nice day, you can take them to moot gardens or down to the river to eat them, both are only 5 mins from the shop

Not many fish and chip shops in the area get decent reviews so happy to travel out to here to get something decent. Always happy to wait for freshly cooked fish but they could organise themselves better to reduce the waiting time - we waited 40 minutes for two plaice and chips because they cook one order at a time. Nonetheless the batter was light and crisp, fish good and plenty of chips. The portion of mushy peas was too small for our liking but still good. Very reasonably priced for the size of portion and quality of fish. The customer service left a little to be desired as there appeared to be a full-on domestic going on in front of us all!

This is a great place to get some fish and chips but can get busy at times. They portions are generous and prices fair. The food, by the time it makes it home is a bit soggy unfortunately.

Wow. As a local resident I am so pleased that there's a decent takeaway Fish and Chip shop nearby. Always happy staff, always massive portions. Order meal and pop over to The Wooden Spoon for a beer. Parking is outside on kerb. Happy to support such a great family run business. If it's nice weather you could take your meal out and find the Moot Park ( turn left, then first left down Moot Lane - 3 minutes). A lovely open space.

As a local I'm a monthly visitor to Downton fish bar and they serve consistently good quality food and the fish is superb . Would recommend.

Downton is a lovely village with rural walks and lovely old buildings. To top it off the New Forest is a mile up the road and what better picnic to take than Fish and Chips from Downton's chippy! The portions were big and the chips were lovely and crisp and fresh. I had a Chicken burger which was nice and the rest had fish which all commented how nice it was. If your going along the A338 between Salisbury and Bournemouth, pull into the village and call in, it will be worth it.

At last - proper cod and chips, The fish was perfect - really tasty batter and the chips - loads of them - were simply delicious. Reminds me of my years in Yorkshire - and for you softy Southerners - that's a good thing! I will be back. Yum yum yum.

The fish is cooked fresh so that it is steaming hot and the batter is light and delious. You have to wait whilst it is cooked but it is worth the wait.

Stopped at this chippy on route to Devon. Nice diversion from a36 into Salisbury. Our chips were crispy and fluffy and the fish was freshly cooked to perfection. Service was efficient and polite. Portion size was generous. We ordered small and there was more than enough for a large appetite. Handy bench outside to sit and watch the world go by when eating your delicious fish & chips in this charming town.

We seem to have increased our fish and chip intake to weekly now. Not that I'm complaining. The fish is always freshly cooked and the chips are never greasy but always crisp and plenty of them too.

Plenty of food per serving and the fish nearly always cooked while you wait. Excellent. Childrens portions available if you are not so hungry.
