The sandwich was simple but nice enough. Tasty cheese and ham. The macaroni was awful. Cold sludge made from cheap ingredients. Possibly the worst I've had. The place itself is fine but they really need to review their catering. It could be so much better

Decided to have lunch before we did the pumpkin festival. Waited approximately 40 minutes for food, tomato soup was bland, thick and sickly, should have sent back, obviously ran out of soup apart from dregs at bottom of pot, saw the girl going into kitchen and coming out with small white plastic tub with something in it, went back into kitchen again, came back out stirring whatever was in the tub then poured it into the soup pot... Should have said they didn't have any soup left instead of doing that!!!! Chicken mayo sandwiches Bland.... No kids menu, found that unusual... Would not eat there again..

Our first visit to Dowhill since they reopened the restaurant. It is a large airy room with picture windows across to Ailsa Craig and Arran. Jade welcomed us and took our orders and preferences carefully. We like our bacon crisp but often it just comes as the kitchen decides. Not here. Our bacon was crispy and exactly as requested. Piping hot food deliciously and promptly served. Just right for a leisurely Saturday morning. Jade chatted with us happily but was careful to make sure all her customers were being looked after. The gift shop adjacent is well stocked and can usually provide something for most occasions. We’ll be back.

It was rubbish, having been before. I ordered a soup and they gave me the wrong one. I also ordered a plain burger and it came with all of the added fillings. Both were sent back, but yet we didn't get we didn't get anything deducted from the bill despite our complaints. Our Cajun chips had NO Cajun spice on them, so again these got sent back. Poor service and not particularly cheap.

We used to really like this place and visited regularly for breakfast and lunch. It’s in a beautiful location with wonderful views and nice outdoor space. Sadly we were very disappointed with our recent visit, the standard of food wasn’t great and the menu is very limited with no scope for amending fillings in pre-made sandwiches. It was also pretty expensive considering you now need to order and pay at a counter where they give you a buzzer to collect your order and you’re also expected to return your dirty plates etc to a cleaning station afterwards. We most definitely will not be returning which is a real shame.

This amazing venue is the location of PUMPKINFEST held in October each year. Their main charity is WHITELEY RETREAT who provides respite for kids with life threatening illnesses. Found this farm shop / cafe by chance as driving past and decided to stop for some lunch. So glad we did. We were very impressed with both the shop and cafe. The staff were lovely. The menu isn’t big but the quality was high. Food was freshly prepared to order and ours was delicious. Although we didn’t have any cakes, there was a large selection on display that looked very appetising. Everywhere was very clean and sitting in the cafe, you have a lovely view of the Ailsa Craig. The farm shop area isn’t large but the food on offer to buy was fantastic and we purchased a few items. Our experience was 100% positive - thank you.

Dowhill used to showcase its food wares via an excellent selection of cooked food, cakes, scones, and takeaway items. Not any more! On our visit, the selection on the menu was small and uninspiring. My daughter and wife selected a sandwich each, which was not freshly made and had to be selected from a cabinet. I selected the steak burger. The sandwiches were dry and bland; steak burger was passable, but would have benefited from the addition of side salad and/or crisps/chips. The final nail for my wife and I was the terrible service/attitude towards an elderly couple who had obviously made the effort to visit Dowhill. The couple had barely sat down when (I assumed them to be the manager/proprietor) curtly advised them,'we stop serving at 3.45, so we're not taking orders'. The time was 3.46! I am sure the couple could have been offered a selection of scones, sandwiches, or cakes with a hot drink; but no such kindness was forthcoming. As we engaged the couple in conversation, we found they had driven from Prestwick to be treated to such abysmal service. To Dowhill, I would ask them to buck up their ideas concerning customer service as well as reconsider and uprating their offerings to customers. Needless to say, we shall not be visiting again.

Really disappointed as we loved this place but today found they cannot even make a cup of tea. I asked for a pot of tea but was presented with a mug of water and a separate tea bag meaning the water was not hot enough to brew the tea when they were eventually together: tea requires boiling water. We had driven 20 miles today to specifically visit Dowhill but after my terrible tea we left without even looking at the shop and it is unlikely that we will be back. Why is it that places like this can do six or eight different coffees but cannot make a simple tea? Surely owners from a Scottish farm know how to make tea.

We had a lovely wee lunch today. It is a changed place, due to Covid, I’ve no doubt but I had a delicious tuna baked potato and my other half had a roll with square sausage and potato scone. It was self service but the guys who were there were absolutely charming. Yes it had an amazing, large restaurant before, with loads of staff and probably very high overheads to go with it but they are doing what they are doing very well. It was absolutely spotless and the gift shop is fabulous, with a more condensed freezer food selection but still the same Dowhill quality.

We came to Dowhill as we were staying in the near by Turnberry Holiday Park. The day we came we knew we would have some lunch and buy some products. As we walked round the shop you notice how welcoming it is and how friendly the staff are. We took our items to the till and ordered food just as the electricity cut out. The friendly staff asked us to take a free drink and our food and they would bring the hot drinks over as soon as possible. The offer for the free drink was there but we didnt take it, preferring to wait for the coffee. Five minutes later the power was on and the cappucino arrived. There are some negative comments on here about the lack of food choices. And i have to say people need to realise we have spent 2 years in a pandemic and sometimes life doesnt go back to normal. Businesses have made difficult choices due to the pandemic and now with the cost of living crisis. The soup and sandwiches are just enough and were lovely and fresh. My Husband enjoyed the baked potato with a good choice of fillings. There is a costa express machine but the farm shop cappucino tastes exceptionally better than the costa. The lunch was lovely, the staff friendly and welcoming and the fresh produce once cooking the tea later on tasted amazing. A huge cabbage, cali and brocolli for 3.50 and we are still eating it on our return. Fully recommend.

Used to come here often pre-Covid for a light lunch. Called in today to be told it was self service. Stood in a queue for 10 minutes having decided to make do with a sandwich and a coffee (which we'd have to get ourselves from a machine). In that time the line didn't move as the lady was busy serving a customer from the farm shop. We gave up and went on the Ballantrae where we were served a lovely lunch at a much lower price. Perhaps if there was a separate till for the Farm Shop it might move things along a bit, but afraid we won't be back.

This used to be the place to go to for fabulous home made cooking if on a day out in the Girvan area and we used to do so several timed a year. It used to be so good I recommended it to friends and work colleagues from all over Scotland. I visited today Glasgow Fair Monday just before lunch time with 27 degree weather outside. Car park was deserted - speaks volumes! We were the only ones in the cafe and saw a few other couples walk in turn around and go straight back out into their cars. Sadly this place should be avoided now. There is no table service. Your"hot" rolls are in the fridge in polythene bags which you take to the counter for them to heat up and then serve it on a paper plate. Take your food to the seated then follow the instructions to clear your own table! I will no longer recommend this place and for anyone reading do yourselves a favour and organise yourself a supermarket meal deal. I can't be wrong - empty car park - potential customers walking in turning round and walking out - we were the only diners just before lunch on Glasgow Fair Monday when previously the place would have been very busy. Bring back the old format of table service and home made cooking! 😞

This was once a lovely tearoom, but I can understand Covid and the last two years will have changed the business format. It is now a self service road chef. But please you must still have your crockery from the tea room. Use proper plates and mugs, not the terrible paper alternatives. A dish washer is easy to load. Move your coffee machine away from the only entrance and exit as it was mayhem getting in and out. Poorly organised. Will not be back again.

My family and I stopped here on a long car journey, we were greeted by signs everywhere saying ‘Toilets for paying customers only’. We made it clear we were going to buy something to the lady yet when we asked where the toilets were she hesitated then she reluctantly told us the code to the disabled toilet which was apparently the only toilet open for some reason. Me and my family tried and tried to get into the very difficult lock and failed, my mum asked the lady again for the code and she said it again but didn’t bother coming to the toilet to help us in as we struggled even more. I finally managed to get in with out her help, she was very rude and unwelcoming. Someone needs to remind it is a legal requirement to provide toilets when serving food and drink. She won’t even make a coffee for you ‘self service’ she uttered from her nasty wee face. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE.

The terrace has beautful sea views and the surroundings were very well kept with an abundance of flowers. Parking is plentiful. The place seeming to be dog friendly, I did not realise that my well-behaved springer spaniel was not allowed in the adjacent gift shop, as there was, apparently, food in a cabinet, and I was curtly told about it. No 'no dogs' signs were spotted, and I did ask before going onto the terrace. However, it didn't stop us going back a day or two later for more coffee and cakes however.

Absolutely terrible lunch. Ordered eggs benedict for myself and leak and potato soup for my wife. Soup was basically water with some leak and potato floating through it. My wife had one spoonful and left the rest. My eggs benedict was even worse. The eggs weren't properly cooked, raw white, not drained enough and water poured out soaking the muffins below when cut. Dreadful. When paying the girl asked "how the meal was?", but was completely uninterested in my complaints. I doubt very much if she had the savvy to pass on the comments to anyone in authority. So we paid £17.20 for 2 half full mugs of luke warm hot chocolate. We won't be back in a hurry.

Yes it is a little more expensive than the excellent café up the road but it is still good value for money and I feel that that is as good a yardstick as any to rate an establishment. This was the second time that we had eaten there and, on a rainy summer’s day, it was well patronised with a constant turnover of clientele. From an extensive menu we ignored the day’s specials and ordered a ‘Laird’s’ All Day Breakfast, French toast with Ayrshire Bacon and a Brie and Bacon Toastie and chips. All were delivered fairly quickly and on hot plates to keep everything warm. There was almost too much to eat for three old age pensioners but everything was very tasty and excellent value all round.

We have stopped here twice over the last few weeks. Once for breakfast and once for lunch. The breakfast was excellent, especially the French toast and the roast lamb lunch was delicious. The service on both occasions was friendly and welcoming. We would highly recommend it.

We drove a 130 mile round trip to visit this establishment after buying Ayrshire Tatties in the St Enoch Centre in mid June at their stall. When we arrived there was a banner with opening times and saying closed Wednesdays, nowhere on any of their websites did it say CLOSED WEDNESDAYs. What a big let down.

I dont know about the restaurant it may well be good it was very full. But the shop stock was a waste of time unless you wanted soup bacon or strawberries. Maybe I expected it to be different but there really wasn't much to buy on the said farm shop.

Drove from Ayr for a late lunch. Although we only had a sandwich and lentil soup, what made it special was the high quality of the ingredients. Genuine wholemeal bread, not cheap sliced, thick cut ham and really tasty home-made soup. Service was efficient and friendly. Other dishes looked good as well. There is a good range of scones and home-made cakes which we didn't eat on this occasion, The views of Ailsa Craig are stunning. The only slight disappointment was that the range of food products on sale in the shop (whether pies or fresh vegetables) seemed far smaller than in the past.

Stopped here with family had a great steak pie lunch and a full Scottish breakfast and three great deserts. Well worth a visit but remember it's closed all day Wednesday which seems odd especially during the holiday season.

Had lunch last week while on holiday in the area. The restaurant is very nice and the food was good but strangely no vegetables served with the meals we had. The menu states main meals served with potatoes or chips and vegetables. No explanation given and no reduction in price for lack of veg.

Stopped off by chance when passing. Very friendly and attentive staff. Lovely food at fair prices. All meals fresh and tasty and home cooked. One point though is that 2 tables were placed directly in front of the doors acting as fire escapes?

We stopped at a local caravan park and decided on our last morning, as we were leaving, to go for breakfast to save the frantic dash around the caravan to get out of there for 10 a.m

The place is lovely and the food was great. However they either need to step up their takeaway game or stop completely. I was hoping for a fridge where I could pick sandwiches up quickly. Nothing at the front so I went through to the restaurant till. Eventually got confirmation that they were happy to do most of the menu as a takeaway option - great! However the ticket appeared to go to the back of the queue as if it was a restaurant order. You’re doing takeaway because you want to go somewhere else quickly! There’s nowhere to wait so I browsed the shop and came back then got asked multiple times if I was being served. Chased the order and it got prioritised. Was about 10 mins start to finish when I was hoping for 2 mins. Would go there and have a sit down meal but definitely won’t be back for takeaway sandwiches/cake.

Four us went to Dowhill at Sunday lunch time on 10 March. We had different main courses and each one was judged superb. The desserts too were delicious, especially the stick toffee pudding!

Visited Dowhill with friends. Lovely setting. Recent refurbishment. Ordered coffee & scones. At a cost of £2.60 for a dry treacle scone it is by far the most expensive & we collectively agreed we won't be back & would certainly not recommend.

We stopped here for lunch and breakfast a couple times this month. It can be busy but, service is always good. The restaurant is clean with an airy feel from the many windows that offer excellent views over the sea. The food is consistently good: high quality (usually local from the farm) produce, prepared well in large, filling portions.

Visit here quite often when visiting family. Great staff and good service. As a vegan the only option on the menu is baked beans, soup and sides. Chips and seasonal veg were good and the rest of the family had a great choice and enjoyed what they had.

Stopped in with my parents and son today for a look around and a bite to eat. Lovely homemade soup, beautiful sandwich and great chunky chips. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Toilets were immaculate. Decor was tasteful. The cakes looked delicious, unfortunately we didn't have room left to sample them. We will definitely be back.

What a wonderful shop and cafe the hub of the local community. The manger Alex and Young worker Becca are fabulous such excellent customer service. I'm currently walking the entire UK coast path solo for the RNLI with my Big agnes tent Aggie since July 4th over 7,600 walked and I am staying at a campsite nearby yo rest a sore ankle. Wow I arrived and was treated like a local welcomed in offered coffee and cake. The atmosphere was heartwarming everyone happy picking up provisions hot food or stopping by for a chat. A lost dog was found and kept amd cuddled by a staff member till the happy owner arrived to claim his doggy ❤️ fully recommend this wonderful place. Thank yoy manager Alex 5 star .

We live between Deeside and Dorset and rarely in Ayrshire but down for wedding and decided to go to Scott’s as knew the owners through business over 20 years ago when they just had a couple of places & heard a lot about their massive success . Honestly , we couldn’t fault it and … we eat out a lot . From a genuinely lovely welcome from Beth to excellent service from all the staff ( Isabelle was particularly charming & efficient ) - wonderful choice of menu , terrific cuisine and good value for money …. With a charming view . Some people look to find fault wherever they go but , we genuinely found Scott’s faultless ( inc toilets , decor etc etc ) . Absolutely SUPERB - 10/10- well be back and Soon 🥂

Usually eat here and never had an issue. Today we called and waiting 15 minutes and not served. Approached the counter and older lady said it was table service and take a seat. (We knew this but had waited). Sat back down and waited nearly another 15 minutes and nobody took our order. We were walked past several times by staff and ignored. Left and went elsewhere. Really disappointed at being made to feel so embarrassed after others noticed clearly and those arriving after us were served. Will sadly not return as left to feel like we were deliberately being ignored. Completely embarrassing experience.
