As a family we have been to this pub many times and always enjoyed it. We went as a family today and have never been treated like we did today. We ordered our lunch and we ordered 2 plates of squid and seaweed and 2 plates of King Prawns and sausage. They bought out the squid and said sorry but we have no seaweed so we said why didn't they tell us but no explanation. When they bought out the King Prawns we said what are they and they insisted they were King Prawns. We said we would not pay for them because they were just ordinary prawns. We asked to speak to the manager and the cook but they said no manager. They took 1 of the party to the bar and asked us to leave. Don't know what has happened to the place. The manager was such a nice pleasant man. So we went to the Windrush just down the road and had a beautiful carvery for half there prices

We have been here several times over the years but this visit was our last. The vegetarian options were disappointing and they always grew their own vegetables as much as they could in the kitchen garden, but when we had a walk around this time, the area was overgrown and neglected. Food was ok but nothing special. Staff were friendly enough but when we asked for the high service charge to be removed as we were entitled to, their mood changed and they became very rude, Not sure where the original manager/owner and staff have gone but we won’t be returning.

The Horse & Radish, is not only an unusual and unique name, but it is also a very special place to go and have lunch or dinner. My partner and I have visited this quintessential Cotswold pub many times and trust me, for that to happen, it has to be continually on point. On a lovely sunny day, it is the best place to take in an unrivalled view of the Windrush valley, especially if you're sat outside on the delightful patio. Indoors is beautifully laid out and the decor, along with the mood of the venue, makes for a very comfortable atmosphere to enjoy the excellent food and sample some nice wines too. The staff are attentive, friendly and keen to make sure that you're looked after. The menu is seasonal and the Sunday Roast is to die for. If you're visiting the area, then I can't encourage you enough to check out this great place. If you're in the neighbourhood and you haven't visited yet, then what are you waiting for!

I went here for the first time on recommendation for a Hen Do Sunday lunch it was 14 ordered a lot of food and drinks but the staff where great service was amazing nothing too much hassle for them, the food was fantastic. I was staying in broadway last week, we struggled to find something for 6 in the close area of us so decided to make the half a hour drive here. One of the best meals in a long while. We had 3 vegetarians in the groups they said the vegetarian roast was one of the best they had in a long time. I work in a gastro pub and have high standards for food and service this place does not disappoint. There was a young girl with curly hair so sweet, really cheerful, such excellent service and the food was amazing. Thank you so much for 2 excellent Sunday lunches.

We visited here from London on our (sad!) way home after a weeks stay in the Cotswolds. So happy to get a table outside on the hottest day of the year, in such a beautiful setting surrounded by fields and socially distanced tables! The very friendly chap on the door explained new guidelines under Covid to us and let us choose our table outside. Dream setting if you have hyper kids or dogs as they can just be “let loose” in the field!I’ve been veggie for 20 years and the beetroot/ falafel burger with blue cheese sauce and yummy sweet potato fries was so good, hands down one of the most delicious homemade veggie burgers I’ve ever tasted. Really feel the chef has a good understanding of all diets and tastes from the varied menu but so nice to see a chef who is creative and thinks about what veggies also want ie. something succulent and rich, not just the standard, bland mushroom risotto or a tart with salad. The blue cheese sauce could be bottled and sold in supermarkets! Our starters- tomato pepper bruschetta and onion soup were also delicious and my husband loved his chicken Caesar salad and kids their lovely fish and chips. Enjoying several drinks (husband driving!) in this stunning setting with lovely staff, friendly clientele and delicious food was the perfect end to a lovely weeks holiday.

Last Saturday we went to the G+T/BBQ diner. As the weather after a lovely day was crap sitting outside in the garden wasn’t really a wonderful experience. It was the first time they organized it and the kitchen an waiting staff seemed overwhelmed with the many guests so it took 1 1/2 hours for the food to arrive. However normally everything is much better. All and all most important they acknowledged themselves it wasn’t a 100% evening

So lovely to be out again, and some really delicious food! The track and trace element of coming in was straightforward and very well managed. However, there was no obvious signage about ways to head in and out of the restaurant, which may be something that is being sorted, but without such signage, it’s a good idea not to get cross or rude with your customers who know no different. Two members of staff were almost unpleasant in their response to members of my party coming in the side gate and sitting down at an outdoor table we had already booked. There were no instructions, arrows or signage to say they they should have gone in a specific way but having done so, both members of staff were very ‘off’ with us. Thereafter, when one of us asked for a glass of water as well as their pint of ale, the response was ‘Really?!’Whilst I liked this as a place to eat, I won’t be returning due to the customer service we received.

My husband and I were looking for somewhere to break up our drive from Leighton Buzzard to Hereford, and were lucky enough to stumble across the Horse and Radish. We sat outside with our two dogs, and looked out across the beautiful lawn and view. The house dry white was excellent and great value. The crab linguine was delicious and a generous portion. We were made very welcome and the covid-19 precautions were all in place and clearly communicated. We enjoyed it so much we booked in again for our journey home on Sunday

We looked at the menu before going due to different dietary requirements, but given a different menu on arrival and told the online menu is only a sample menu and it changes every week. It would be helpful if the website could be updated weekly with the menu. I recommend checking the menu over the phone before going, if in doubt. The tables where we sat are squashed in very tightly together, making getting into and out of your chair quite problematic. Even once in situ, you are quite tightly confined. The food was good but the portion size small, and value for money therefore disappointing. This was compounded by the lack of service. We had to chase for extra drinks, desert menus and the bill despite there being only 5 other tables occupied towards the end of our visit. The setting and decor both made a positive first impression. Unfortunately this tarnished as the experience unfolded. Great potential which sadly wasn't realised during our visit.

Yes, it's a pub and yes, there's food, but certainly not your average 'pub grub'.What the Horse & Radish offer is superbly cooked and presented, and in a different league to the usual scampi, chicken, steak or burgers. We're talking black risotto with beautiful tempura calamari, or Hog Mash (Cornish!), or plenty of others from a very interesting menu.Couple this with a good wine list and excellent polite service in a great environment and it became an instant hit with us.We visited on a miserable January evening but in the summer the views over the valley will make the meal even better, although I can't see how the food could improve; we thought it was brilliant! Many thanks to Andrew, Pedro and all the staff for a wonderful experience.

Went for a meal with my husband yesterday. We were greeted by a lovely man and shown to our table. He was very attentive. We ordered our meals and we had the soup for starters. It was absolutely delicious although a little cold, but that didn’t put us off. I then ordered the puy lentil salad. Again this was absolutely delicious and no complaints at all.My husband ordered a burger which he said was also delicious but he had quite a few chunks of bone which then just made him give up on his meal. We told the waitress and showed her the bone and she said she’d pass this onto the chef. Once she returned her response was that he was “not bothered and it was nothing to worry about”. No apology or anything from the waitress, she also didn’t seem bothered. My husband left a review and the owner replied basically calling him a liar. What on earth do we gain from lying? We were going to return again, but we most definitely won’t be now. Shame really as I really did enjoy my meal.

Had lunch at the Horse and Radish on spec. The food was better than standard pub-fare but still recognisably in that bracket. Smoked Haddock Chowder was very tasty. Moules with frites had good sized mussels, also had lots of cream in the broth. Desserts were tasty and well judged. They seem to emphasise local ingredients. The fixed price menus (just depending on number of courses) are a sensible way to price the meals. The service was intelligently adult. All in all this was somewhere we would eat again. It's quite close to the main road (the A40) so very accessible when travelling to/from Oxford.

Following the graduation of our daughter at New College - Oxford University, we stayed a couple of days in the Cotswolds. Before leaving Belgium, we booked a table for 4 at 18hr. in the Horse and Radish (not impressed or influenced by some negative reviews - there are difficult people everywhere). As we were running late, we called the pub to inform them - no problem at all to accomodate revised timing. Upon arrival we were warmhearted welcomed. The hospitality was friendly, the food delicious, the interior cosy and the service excellent ! From all 4 of us, the Horse and Radish definitely deserves a 5-star rating (please pass on our evaluation to the cheff and the entire staff). As our daughter will be staying in UK for the time being (she started working at the BBC) and as my wife and I have a soft spot for the Cotswold region, we will definitely come back to the Horse and Radish !!!

As a non dairy eater I was today served a vegan meal with yoghurt on top. I queried it with the waitress who came back and 'promised me it was vegan. In convinced I tentatively started my meal not wanting to ruin our rare evening out together. Another waiter then rushed over to remove the dish as it WAS dairy yoghurt. I had already eaten some. Very little concern shown and although another meal was made my husband had already finished his. Mot quite the evening we had planned. I wasn't offered a drink while I watched my husband eat and no discount was given on the bill. I fear they will end up calling an ambulance for a diner if they don't improve staff training. Totally ruined our evening and I feel ill.

Even though this restaurant gives a lovely first impression and the setting is beautiful the shine started wearing off when we noticed all of the glasses and cutlery had water stains on them. Our waitress even though being very keen and friendly did not know which wines they had, nor which ales nor what the soup of the day was. There was no children’s menu so our daughter went with the only thing she would eat which was fish and chips which looked and tasted lovely. We had a bread board for our starter which was basically a selection of hard, burnt bread. For our mains we had a rib eye steak which was really just ok and I had a leg of du k which I could have sworn had been microwaved just before it landed on the table in front of me. I ordered a second glass of wine which never arrived but did show up on our bill at the end which she brought us and then did not return to actually take the money for nearly 30 minutes. Having a six year old with us and not having received any more drinks this really finished it off. All in all a pretty poor experience. Would not go there for a meal again.

Had a 60th birthday party in there. 60 drinkers all told to keep it quiet as not upset the 4 diners. One gent was told to take his feet of the puff as it's "for calves not feet" then the landlord got aggressive with his wife, exclaiming "I don't come to your house and put my feet on your furniture" classic case of a business owner with no people skills.. avoid at all costs

We had finally got an evening when we could all go out together and decided to go to the Horse & Radish, formerly the Dovecote, formerly the New Inn at Minster Lovell. It was a Tuesday so pretty quiet. Nine of us, very picky, managed to have a most excellent night out. The hosts were very attentive, offering advise on the menu, explaining dishes we weren’t sure of and full of stories to entertain. We were made very welcome from the outset. Whilst enjoying pre dinner drinks on the patio, which has the most outstanding views over the surrounding countryside, we were offered a basket of blankets, should anyone feel chilly. Into the restaurant and the ordering of the main course. Steak was preferred but no peppercorn sauce on the menu. No problem, chef will rustle one up. Funny stories, histories and even a tour of the kitchen entertained us. The food was very good. Everyone was impressed with their choice. The hosts were not overbearing but on hand and willing to attend our every need. It’s not cheap, but you wouldn’t expect cheap at this level. Starters were a bit pricy but the main courses were quite reasonable. The quality and effort offered made for a very enjoyable evening. We were a mixed bunch and all came away having had a delicious meal, a pleasant evening and although not cheap, definitely a value for money evening. Will definitely be returning and have already made enquiries about Sunday lunches.

Having completed a circular dog walk from Minster Lovell to Crawley and back . we were looking forward to having a rest and a drink. Unfortunately, the local pub at the end of the walk was closed for refurbishment and not knowing the local area we asked a passer by for a recommendation. We found ourselves at the Horse and Radish and have to say, we were impressed from the moment we entered the establishment. The atmosphere was great, it was buzzing, the decor was really tasteful and straight away we were made to feel really welcome. The plan was to have a drink and a packet of crisps but we ended up having a full blown Sunday lunch and we were so glad we did. We are vegetarian so tend to be a little wary of "Sunday Roasts" but we were not disappointed. The food was flavoursome, plentiful and we didn't feel that because we don't eat meat, that our meal was compromised in any way. We had the nut roast but also all of the usual trimmings and it was really, really tasty. The owners made themselves known and were on hand to check that everyone was happy. Can't fault The Horse and Radish and would definitely recommend it. We will be back.

The food at this restaurant was great and i could not fault the service. The atmosphere was a little stilted as we were the only ones in there. HOWEVER, please do not leave a tip at this restaurant. ALL TIPS GO TO THE OWNERS AND NOT THE STAFF. This is quite disgraceful. Staff work really hard and people who go to the restaurant leave tips thinking that they are leaving them for the bar, waiting and kitchen staff not to be pocketed by the owners and the staff to get nothing. Very disappointing!

A couple of days ago we revisited the Dovecote. After my last visit I left a fairly negative review concerning service(one waiter practising his speed walking and considerable delays) and the lack of choice concerning the English meals. I am happy to say that the service is greatly improved and on asking the staff they were able to 'tone down' the heat in the Indian food - which is a particular concern to me. The staff were very friendly and chatty, especially a very smiley young man called Shane. The choice of English meals could still be widened - possibly a non-Indian lamb shank, maybe a duck breast without the Indian sauce, but over all greatly improved and what we ate was very tasty.

Visited 16 3 2018 for a family birthday. 7 adults and 1 child Varied menu which suited everyone. 6 had curry 2 had stir fry and child had ham egg chips and salad. All the meals were very much enjoyed - including the starters. We asked for the childs main to be served with our starters which it was. Great find - much enjoyed by us all. Thank you.

My family and I wanted to try the new Dovecote since it was turned into an Indian so we decided to have a birthday party of 40 of us which the owners did above and beyond in order to cater for us. They specifically made sure everyone person was satisfied and the attention to detail was fantastic the service the food is extra ordinary. Great place, very easily accessible high chair friendly. Will make sure to return in the future.

Went into the restaurant, hadn’t booked, plenty of room. Busiest on a weekday for takeaway. Amazing service. Food was spectacular! A very talented chef. Fantastic extensive menu. Great portions, you will not go hungry. Top Indian restaurant around. Hugely recommended.

Another great restaurant in the Cotswolds, since under new ownership Dovecote has started serving Indian food. The guys who have taken them over also have another two and I have been to them all, it’s a great place to eat. Presentation and service is great and good is to die for!

We booked a table for 7 of us and visited last night, our 2nd visit since they changed their menu to mainly Indian cuisine. The 1st thing we noticed was how cold it was even though the radiators were on. Then how quiet the restaurant was considering it was 2 weeks before Christmas, so no atmosphere. The main waiter who took our order wasn’t very friendly and told a Waitress rudely that there was dirty glasses on our table.all other staff were friendly.....The food was good and it’s a shame our Christmas family get together didn’t live up to expectations. They seriously need to look at improving their heating too.

We noted on the internet that this restaurant served mainly Indian food so whilst staying in the area our party of six and three children booked for a very early Saturday evening dinner. First impressions favourable regarding the decor. However the service was so slow. Our main course was delivered well over an hour after we had had our starter which resulted in two of our party having to ask for their food to take out to return to our accommodation to settle their child for bed. On the plus side the food was very good. Lovely flavours with nice presentation but as I said the service was not at all good which really spoilt the occasion. The prices are on the high side but given the area this is to be expected. I would award this venue 3.5 out of 5 but Trip Advisor do not allow half marks!

We recently visited The Dovecote for a carvery. It looked reasonably nice but the gravy looked questionable. We all tried some of the gravy and to say it was disgusting would be an understatement.

We went for a visit as its local and always think it has such potential at being a great place, with it being in a lovely setting. But we have left here always feeling over charged and feeling the quality of food to be rubbish and cheap. On this occasion we went for the new curry menu as thought this would be their specialty and could go wrong but it was the wort curry I've ever had. It was suppose to be a rezala but tasted almost exacting the same as my wife korma how that is possible I don't know??? The chicken (if it was chicken) was dark in colour, very chewy and even tho in lots of sauce dry!!!

Stopped here for a Sunday lunch. Was very disappointed to find it was not the 'cosy gastropub' as advertised but a Indian restaurant serving a few British dishes and a carvery.

I visited the restaurant with my family. We have been to this restaurant on several occasions when we visit family nearby. How very disappointed we all were on arrival to find that the restaurant had completely changed its Menu. Apart from the carvery which looked excellent the rest of the menu was all Indian cuisine. There was two English specials on the board only. The only English things on the menu was Fish and chips Ham egg and chips etc. Not really Sunday lunch dishes.

This is our local pub but we have hardly ever gone in due to bad beer quality and high prices for food. Now they've started doing curries they're moving in the right direction as the village already has a posh pub and a decent watering hole, but the prices are way over the top when compared to local takeaways and indian restaurants. Had a terrible ale in there last time, and the barman said he doesn't drink it so wouldn't know if it was off. Poor excuse as anyone can see a cloudy pint. Fortunately the other chap realised the way his colleague was coming across and quickly offered me another option, although yet again the prices are more than the neighbouring pubs. Will try again soon to see if anything has changed after the refurbishments.

Took my mother for carvery 19/8/17 we were met by a friendly member of staff taken to our table. 4 of us decided to have the carvery which was lovely the beef was so tender and tasty the turkey was lovely really moist, the vegetables were good broccoli carrots sweed cauliflower cheese(yum) roast potatoes which could of been slightly more crispy but we're still nice, stuffing sausages and Yorkshire pudding, gravy tasted nice but bit runny I love thick gravy.... Was great value at £11.75.theother person had the Moroccan tagine which was really tasty will be going back there soon.

The dovecote has always been our favourite place for family get togethers and cosy meal for just me and the hubby. Staff always made us welcome and super friendly. Imagine our disappointment when we went this week and found all the usual staff have gone including the amazing chef. Menu has changed and is now predominantly Indian. Decided to stay and give them the benefit but was not good, food tasteless and service appalling, some of the table had to start eating as clearly food was going cold waiting for the others to be served, then the nam bread for people with curry arrived at the end of the meal. Sadly will not be returning or recommending- now need to find new favourite eating place

To me this is the sad demise of a once great eating place. It has long since been a favourite eating place for family get-togethers, and with my wife I would go there once or twice a month. The staff, food and service used to be great. It has now changed to yet another Indian restaurant run on a shoe string over the last few months – no more duck breast, no more Lamb shank – unless you like it and everything spiced to death. I like a bit of spice but all the old favourites are gone and the non – Indian food selection is very poor. The once friendly staff are reduced to a barman, a single waiter – who was in danger of breaking world speed walking records (no time to be friendly) and a cook, who no doubt has to do the takeaways as well. The service was a bit slow and we overheard complains from other diners at having to wait over an hour for food. The location is great and the food okay, but the variety (non- Indian), the service and once great atmosphere are gone – so be aware when reading old feedback. For us it has gone from a five star regular haunt to a one star looking elsewhere to eat out.

Had dinner here with my husband and we were both very impressed. I had the chilli and ginger tuna steak and my husband had the Indian lamb shank. I asked for my tuna steak to be a little less spicy than their usual and it was perfect for me. Both meals were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. For dessert I had a pistachio ice cream which was unlike anything I'd had before and very good. The staff were all very pleasant and service was quick. All in all it was an excellent meal and we will definitely return.

Family Sunday lunch spanning 4 generations to celebrate a significant birthday. What a fabulous way to do it. Eight adults and two infants in high chairs. Plenty of potential pitfalls. Booking - entirely straightforward. Was told unprompted that we could arrive early to decorate the table. The infants were able to share a child's carvery portion. Seven of the adults had carvery and one had fish and chips from an extensive non-carvery menu - all fabulous with quality ingredients. And the best bit? The staff - couldn't have been more friendly, accommodating and keen to ensure we were happy. Marvellous experience enjoyed by each of us. We'll all be back, whether for the European or Indian cuisine. Plenty to explore. Oh, and lovely setting with great views and outside seating to drink coffee and watch the children play.

This was the perfect venue, party of 10 with ages from 18months to 94. We were looked after so well by al the staff. Carvery is the best you will ever have, but to be awkward I had fish and chips which was divine! Massive field out to the back for the toddlers to run about. Recommend !!!!

Ate here on our first night of arriving in the area. Party of 4 + toddler, we had a mix of curry, pie & chips, fish & chips, burger & chips, and they made a mini pizza for our 2 year old which wasn't on the menu.Service was excellent, with plenty of attention given to our little princess! The bill was approx £80 for the 5 of us, which also included beer & glasses of wine. If we were in the area, I'd definitely return.

We happened on the Dovecote last year when visiting the area and made sure we came back this year when we were near again. The atmosphere is really nice, the restaurant and bar is nice and spacious and not cramped. The staff are friendly and the service cannot be faulted. Most importantly the food is excellent and there is a very varied menu, a good range of traditional food and an excellent variety of Indian, Chinese and Mediterranean food. Can't fault the place.

Went here with my husband and sister as a treat while she was visiting. Has lovely cocktails to start and when we ordered, and were advised that the sirloin steak had not gone down well and recommended to try a different cut we thought we were on to a winner (as we like honesty in restaurants). But when the food came out my steak (order rare) was well done and my husband and sister, who ended up ordering fillets due to the sirloin not being recommended, had tiny portions. When we dared to suggest the the food was overcooked and the steak portions rather stingy, the waiting staff just argued with us and did not budge and basically explained that they struggle to cook english food and that if we didn't like it we could leave, so we did. Having been a waitress I know the customer is always right even if you really disagree but not at the dovecote!

Went there for lunch on a lovely Sunday afternoon. Thank goodness we made a reservation. The place was packed. We had options of ordering from the menu or going for the Carvery. I opted for the Carvery with Roast Beef and Roast Pork. The usual sides of roast potatoes, stuffing, veg (carrots and broccoli and cream cauliflower. The beef was a bit overdone but the pork was excellent. One of the member of our party decided to go for the fish and chips. The piece of fish was on the large side. Accompanied with salad, coleslaw, chunky french fries and mushy peas. Had a taste of the fish and would give it 8.5 out of 10. For me, the highlight was the mushy peas. It has a slight minty and spicy aftertaste which was rather unusual.Price was, great value for money, inclusive of drinks (non alcoholic) for a party of 7 came to just under 90 pounds sterling.Only snag during the dining experience was our seating which was just next to the Carvery station. With to popularity of the Carvery, our meal was rather interrupted by the diners going for the Carvery. That aside, it was an excellent lunch time experience and great value for money.

We came here on Father's day for lunch. It was inevitably busy due to the date, but they also run a carvery on a Sunday which was proving popular. We opted for the standard menu and were advised there would be a wait. We weren't in a rush so relaxed and enjoyed the views of the valley. The food was very nice and moderately priced. There were gluten-free choices too but they had to be asked about as they weren't obvious on the menu.

We had the carvery for 4 of us and can only add that it was lovely! I was a bit worried when we turned up as our table wasn't ready, and they did seem a bit disorganised. But I needn't have worried as we were soon shown to our table, and REALLY well looked after by the staff. The carvery meats were amazing, especially the turkey which was moist, and veggies that thankfully were not overdone. Cheeseboard for dessert was sizeable, more than enough to share between 2, We will definitely go again!

This is a lovely pub, just as a local should be. The owner is very experienced in the hospitality industry and it shows. The welcome is warm and the Hook Norton beers are well kept. Where they knock the ball out of the park is the food. Fabulous home made generously portioned dishes. Just go, it’s a gem of a place.

A nice coffee shop situated in the town centre and very popular with locals. They specialise in cakes so the choice of savoury mains is a little limited. Service is brisk.

We went here to get a little desert as we have been to this cafe before and saw it had quite a good range of gluten free options. They didn’t have much left in stock so we were lucky to get what we got.The gluten free cookies were delicious, tasted really fresh and like they were homemade. Also the cake was really lovely too and tasty. They clearly list the allergens of the product on the screen protector thing behind the cakes. Also tell them about any allergies when ordering.I believe their menu is 100% vegan too.The toilets were really clean too.

Our research paid off, ‘tapas’ suggests Spanish style bites however you’ll be met with a great variety of European, Asian & traditional British lite portions, we ordered 3 each plus a side which was spot on & allowed 6 tastes per couple. Add great local beers, we had their own IPA, very busy but the way the dishes came to the table as they were cooked made for a grazing style of very relaxed dining very highly recommend this place but book before hand.
