Dos Sombreros in Brighton and Hove

Went here the other day for lunch, the service was so quick and the Mexican music just made it such a nice vibe. The portions are very big and I recommend the Buffalo wings for starter as they are so nice! For 2 main meals, a starter and 2 drinks it cost £45 including service charge which I think was worth it. Thank you 🙏

Great Mexican food and great for a nice filling meal

We had a prawn fajitas to share as our main and it was amazing. Very generous amount of food with great taste. We ordered the margarita sorbet and chili chocolate brownie as well and it was really great. Absolutely worth to try and definitely recommended to end your meal with some desserts here. Staffs were attentive and lovely atmosphere!

I've walked by this restaurant countless times and it's usually very busy, but after visiting I don't know why! I have to agree with the other low ratings. The food served here is poor quality, bland and seemed to be microwaved. I am really surprised that the kitchen thinks their (taco) chicken is acceptable. The only exceptions to the above was the refried beans, chilli brownie and coconut ice cream. These 3 items were really tasty and possibly handmade. Staff were friendly but not particularly attentive, despite there only being two others tables to wait on. I wouldn't go back.

Great tasting food, nachos were perfect. I was surprised how good the chilli brownie was, the spice and sweetness were just right. We came at lunch when it was quiet. I would definitely like to return, possibly in the evening to feel the full atmosphere.

Would like to clarify that the servers we had were amazing! So sweet and attentive, getting us some free tortilla crisps and salsa for the table when our meal was late. However, the food (veggie fajitas and free tortilla chips and salsa) was very bland and mostly consisted of onion. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it through even a quarter of the meal - very expensive for ingredients of no real value. The restaurant was also very noisy, and it was hard to hear conversations due to the music. It was also way too hot in there!

Mexican is my favourite cuisine but I'm gluten free, so I often find it hard to find anything except for Nachos, but we had enchiladas and potato skins and probably the best food of my life, can't rate any higher! Thoroughly recommend better food than the more famous chains! Good prices and great portions!

Went here because La Choza’s queue was too long (our usual Mexican choice) the food was below average unfortunately, quesadilla wasn’t fried/had no cheese/was tasteless, presentation was poor and I’m just so confused why this has the same rating as la choza as it’s so much worse and more expensive! Wouldn’t bother unfortunately. (Also the music is much too loud)

Was so excited to revisit after the fire as this was one of my favourite restaurants but left extremely let down. Visited in the run up to Christmas around lunch time, food was terrible and we both came away feeling gross. Ordered nachos and chicken fajitas so nothing complicated. Chicken fajitas were basically a skillet of onions with little of anything else, tortillas were stale and very little of the rest of the ingredients when you’re sharing. Might have understood if they were busy but only 3 tables in. Ordered a tequila sunrise that was bright pink and synthetic tasting. Won’t be rushing to come back which is a real shame!

By far the worst Mexican food we have ever eaten, the issue for me is the ingredients, cheapest dips, cheese, salad, rice and meat.. completely flavourless. The rice was just an uncle bens savoury rice The dips are like the cheap ones, salsa was not salsa, just chopped tomatoes, the guacamole was out of a tube, the sour cream was runny. They must be saving money by reducing the amount of cheeses they use because the top on our food looked like it been zested with cheese rather than a large amount, imagine a plate of Doritos… that’s what the nachos are! I actually can’t believe this gets good reviews, but after reading the bad ones they are all saying very similar things. We only ate the food as we were starving hungry. To add insult to the tasteless food we paid around £60 for, there is also a service charge of 10%, this is an absolute joke In my opinion. 2 trips to a table, one for drinks one for food does not warrant a 10% charge of any bills, it’s part of the job. Had the food been good we would tip As we always do. Honestly, save your money eat else where

I love Mexican food, and was so pleased to find this place had finally reopened. I'm so glad we booked as even though it was midweek, the place was jammed. The staff were run off their feet but were still attentive and made sure everyone was having a good time. The food was delicious. Our group consisted of a meat eater, a vegan and a vegetarian and we were all very happy with our choices and enjoyed them a lot! I must add that having food on a real plate is a big plus in my book so I hope they don't follow the trend of serving in plastic baskets in paper. Plus delicious Margaritas!

Only loses a star for atmosphere as we were upstairs on our own as a busy night of the year and we hadn't booked which I totally accept. Food very tasty.

We have been to Dos Sombreros a couple of time now. The food is beautiful full of flavour and the margaritas are to die for. Wonderful atmosphere, the restaurant is bright and cheerful. The staff are attentive and friendly. We definitely will be back again soon!

Visited on Sunday evening, enjoyed the happy hour cocktails, has to be a Margaritas. Mexican food was great with very attentive staff. The fajitas for two was plentiful for us and very tasty. Enjoyed this restaurant.

We walked in as the restaurant looked inviting. The welcome was friendly. The staff were friendly and helpful and the service was great. We both had the chilli con carne and it was delicious! Perfect for a cold afternoon!

We love to visit independent restaurants wherever we can but was extremely disappointed with our meal. We ordered enchiladas and they were very dry with two pieces of chicken in each one.....think I'll stick to my el paso meal kit in future!

Definitely the best Mexican Restaurant in Brighton. I’ve been going there almost every week since they reopened and I still couldn’t get enough of their delicious food and cocktails. Totally recommend.

We had vegan burrito and tortillas, it is very disappointing. I would highly recommend not to try those, it was total waste of money. Not going here again!

We spotted this great resturant and were so glad to have made the right decision. Food was absolutely out of this world. Hu by and I love Mexican and have had wonderful meals in many countries. We both agreed service was excellent and food delish. Portions were humungeous though so be warned to pace yourself!!

Bright clean decor after refurb. Had eaten here before years ago and wasnt impressed then but gave it another go. Wrong decision. Wobbly table, chair was broken. Forgot to bring us tap water (which was our drink order) for the meal. chilli was on the cold side (friend should have sent it back), stew average. Nachos basic. As with most mexicans cheap food lacking in real flavour all pre-prepared and microwaved. Music is extremely loud but they did turn it down on reques but still was loud hard to talk. Over all bland theres much better out there.

A solid 4 stars. Pretty new in town. Good variety of dishes and drinks. Nice to see options other than just tacos and nachoes etc. Staff friendly and efficient. Pretty good value for money and a 20% off next meal voucher on receipt.

Great to see this very colourful restaurant back open - Great spot for a bit of people watching if you get a window seat ! We probably thought we'd played safe by ordering fillet steak fajitas, and although it was very tasty, the steak was generous but pretty tough. we wouldnt order it with steak again but but there are several other options such as chicken, prawns etc. Would def visit again as were local and try other stuff on the menu. Looses a star for the fillet

Having experienced Mexican food in Texas, it's hard to find a comparison here in UK. This was by far my favourite. Definitely recommend, friendly staff and didn't have to wait long for the food either. Loved it.

Nothing about the food is authentic Mexican, no micheladas in the menu nor knowledge of how to make one. Fajitas are mainly fried onion and the yuca is quite dry and flavourless. Wouldn’t recommend if you’re looking for authentic Mexican food and drinks.

So glad this place is back open, was one of my favourite restaurants in Brighton before the fire and glad to see it is just as good now it’s re-opened. Don’t listen to the negative reviews this place is a gem and definitely worth a visit, food is top quality and the staff and atmosphere is perfect thank you we will be back!

the service reaaaaally ruined the experience for us. We had so much go wrong on our trip that left us feeling quite anxious for the rest of the evening. Firstly, we ordered extra flour tortillas and they bought out 2 extra bowls of tortilla chips and tried to blame it on us for being wrong (why would we order extra tortilla chips ALONGSIDE a sharing bowl of nachos????) also the waiter practically dropped the food on the table which cause my partner to spill his (very expensive margarita over) which they didn’t replace. I was also given chicken taquitos after ordering the sweet potato and feta ones, we felt as if we couldn’t send it back because of the whole debacle beforehand. Then the bill came and they tried to charge us for the tortilla chips that were wrong, the taquitos which were wrong (luckily I wasn’t a vegetarian!!) and tried to overcharge us instead of putting both our margaritas on under the 2 for £18 deal. When approached to fix the bill it took them 20 minutes to sort!!!! We almost walked out. The nachos were nice, the fajitas were tasteless. The taquitos were RANK, tasteless and really felt like I was eating chicken nugget meat. Mango salsa was nice and the passion fruit marg was nice. Deffo won’t be back as the whole ordeal left me feeling extremely anxious and ruined our anniversary evening.

This was our first visit to Dos Sombreros, although our daughter had eaten here prior to their closure as a result of the fire. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere was welcoming with friendly staff and vibrant decor. Most important of all the food was delicious. We ate casava chips with cheese dip, (lush, lush, lush), tacos, burritos and some form of stew (can't remember what that was called). We generally eat at a different Mexican restaurant where the food is served in small baskets so we were pleasantly surprised at the generous portion sizes here. The Margaritas went down a treat too! Our meal was good value for money as the food was freshly cooked and very tasty. We had a lovely evening and will definitely be eating here again on our next visit to Brighton!

We were hungry and looking for something not too heavy to eat, as it was hot. Ordered a platter and a couple of sides to share and we were both full. And my son and I can both eat. Great food and service. We felt welcomed rather than just another order to take. Lived here for years and only just found this by accident. Before leaving I checked the menu to see what I could order next time I go, because there will definitely be a next time. I could easily just have eaten a few plates of taquitos, served with sour cream, fresh salsa and guacamole. Delicioso. Not part of a chain, great food in good sized portions, good value. And great Latin music. Brighton has a million restaurants, but this is worth a visit. You won't be disappointed. Why go to somewhere like (insert name of famous Mexican chain restaurant here) when you could eat proper, fresh Latin food?

The place is nice and the they were friendly but personally I was surprised at the food. There was just a bunch of small things really. If you order the enchiladas you get 2 but have to chose the same one. The salad felt a little cheap somehow. The rice felt like uncle bens. At the same time it made it seem quite homemade which in some way was nice but at that point I could just pop to my mums! There was hardly any chicken in the enchilada. I think the food could do with some tweaks and personally I wouldn’t go back but we will still had a nice time and the food was fine.

We have returned here now rebuilt after fire . The place is lovely and bright you feel like your on holiday with the music decor etc. The food is lovely we had starters ..nachos and two main courses very filling. I had chicken burritos my partner had the lime chicken with sides. Drinks too. So glad it's open again look forward to visiting again.

Absolutely amazing restaurant!! The decorations and atmosphere was so lovely and I felt very relaxed. The waitresses were really helpful and great vegetarian and vegan options. Also appreciated the GF and V labelling next to the meal. To top it off the food was delicious. Thanks for a lovely evening and couldn't recommend it enough.

The restaurant is vibrant and fully restored since a fire destroyed it over year ago, I went for dinner and with me I had my wife, my mother in law and both my sons age 7 and 4… we all had a fantastic evening with delicious cocktails (the girls were the judges) and great food, generous portions and fresh… you can tell that they are back and good luck to the competition because everything was 10/10… Thank you Dos sombreros and good luck… I will be visiting very soon.

Dos sombreros is a really good Mexican restaurant for vegetarians. We had the black beans and cheese burrito, nachos with cheese, guac,sour cream and the tacquitos with sweet potato. The bloody marry was excellent. The staff is extremely friendly.
