An ad hoc visit and very good it was too. We had a Cheese, tomato, and onion panni which was fabulous and a scone with jam & clotted cream, excellent. To drink we had a Cappuccino and a great cup of Earl Grey. All for £15. Friendly staff in a cheerful café with about ten tables Car Parking round the back.

Lovely tea room in a historic village (we were married in the church opposite over 40 years ago so very nostalgic). Tradition leaf tea with China cups and delicious home made cake. Wil be visiting again when the weather is warmer to sit in the lovely garden. Would be a fitting end to a gorgeous countryside walk along the Bridgewater canal.

This is a lovely little tearoom. The menu is limited but what is on offer is good. It is not for those who want a full meal, rather morning coffee or afternoon tea. Having said that we had Paninis, in my case, cheese tomato and onion while my wife had bacon and cheese. It really was nice, as was the tea served in a teapot with cup and saucer, I gather that the coffee was good too. Inevitably, because of where it is, the decor is themed around Lewis Carroll characters. It was tastefully done though and the prices weren’t too expensive. I would certainly recommend this place.

Took my sis for the afternoon tea today (10/11). Must say the staff are so so so lovely & it’s a gorgeous tearoom but £43 for afternoon tea is not great. 3 plates... some sandwiches, a scone each, handful of crisps & selection of cakes. We both dislike fruit cake so they went to waste. You are a truly great find & I will be returning for the normal menu & coffees but the price I paid today felt a little like robbery. Would never have the afternoon tea again (nice as it was)

Our recent family visit was the first time with a three year old and 3 months baby although we have had a lunch here on two previous occasions. Although busy when we arrived we received a good welcome by pleasant, friendly and helpful staff. Food was good quality, my bacon, brie and cranberry was excellent and we all agreed that the home made cakes were really good and with unusual kinds such as the 'tropical' cake that I ate. Delicious with coconut, pineapple and iced top. The whole place is nicely set out, clean and with good, well appointed clean toilet.

Cake I had was a little bit dry although it looked good. I'd go back just to give it another go though, possibly just an off day. Lovely location, with a bit more friendly staff or greeting it could be so much nicer.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We had arranged to meet our friends at the Doormouse tea rooms one Sunday afternoon, they had arrived before us so had sat inside where it was cooler. The theme is based on Alice in Wonderland, these tea rooms are based very close to Daresbury Church and visitor centre. There is a stong link to Alice in Wonderland in this area. The tea room has a large garden so when the weather is good you can sit outside. On this particular day it was quite busy. We were looking forward to visiting this place, but were sadly disappointed, we ordered our drinks and food. The tea came in a nice big pot, loose leaves, the food took an hour to arrive which was very disappointing, by the time it arrived the tea was stewed and luke warm, I had to ask for hot water to top it up. I had asked for the ploughmans which cost £8.75, rather a lot for a lunch time but I thought it would be worth it. The food is homemade, and the ploughmans was made up of half a small pork pie, half a small home made quiche, one pickled onion, a small pot of coleslaw, a small pot of chutney, one chunk of rustic bread (choice of white or brown) and a few leaves of rocket, couple of tomatoes and 3 portions of cheeses, (cheddar, blue, brie). My friend had asked for soup, there was a choice of two and the wrong one was brought, by the time her soup, which was warm not hot, arrived I had almost finished my ploughmans. No apology had been give for the wait, and when they took our order they had not informed us that there would be a wait on food. We asked for the bill and again had to wait for that, we were asked if everything was ok with our meal, and I am afraid I did say no not really. When the wrong soup arrived they said we could have some cake as an apology, this did not arrive and we had to ask for it, twice.

This was my first visit. I'm not sure I'd go back because the service was so slow. I had coffee and walnut cake which was lovely and a pot of tea (loose leaf, very nice) I was with friends who had lunch, the panini looked average and the home made quiche came with a small salad. We had to wait ages to order more drinks and cakes and then we waited about 15 minutes for the drinks which arrived without the cakes. Eventually we asked again for the cakes as we'd been there an hour and a half and had to leave. It was extremely busy but some of the staff were inefficient. The decor was sweet and it was nice and clean. It's just a shame about the service.

Came here with boyfriend the day before Christmas Eve. Did come for breakfast but we were unsure as to what the cafe serves before we arrived so it didn't matter they didn't do breakfast meals, we had snacks instead and had a slice of cake after. Loved how they only serve loose leaf tea, which also tied in well with the decor theme of Alice in Wonderland. Had a chocolate orange cake to finish, very light and fluffy, definitely home made. Cafe is in a lovely setting, would like to come back for the afternoon tea as it needs to be pre booked.

The ginger & pear Cake is gorgeous, moist & tasty and the fresh scones are delightful. We had the offer for a cake/Scone and a hot drink. I had a pot of Earl Grey, really delicate liked it alot, my son had the mixed berry Tea, that's delicious!! And the little ones eyes nearly popped out of her head in delight when she saw her luxury hot chocolate piled high with whipped cream and marshmallows!!! My only disappointment was being charged extra for clotted cream which we didn't ask for, but it was a Saturday afternoon treat and all yummy so simply not worth moaning!! Would definitely visit again. Far superior staff, atmosphere and food to the pub a few doors down!! Many thanks xxx
