Lovely place to visit, very friendly and very clean area will definitely be visiting again☺️

Visited Donnys today and omg what a disappointment!! Donnys has always been one of our favourite places to eat, but today everything about it was a letdown the restaurant was bare and looking very shabby and not the shabby chic it used to be. It was dirty and the food standard was definitely not up to the usual standard. My mother who is 76 had the all day breakfast and when she returned home has been really not great has been violently sick. I’m not sure if Donnys has changed management but it is not recognisable as the pretty tea room as it was before! Very run down and there was only two Young members of staff working that we had seen and not the usual busy restaurant with lots of customers and staff. They closed as soon as we left - so sad

Went in to Donnys on Saturday having visited the cafe before and was very disappointed with the service. My friend had gone in on the previous Saturday and had walked out as had been left unattended. This Saturday we experienced the following; - No acknowledgement on entering despite there being numerous staff and only half full - Had to request a waitress as was left unattended after sitting for some time - We had finished our food for at least 20 mins and the dishes weren't removed and we weren't asked if the food was ok or if we wanted anything else - we went up to the till and despite two staff being there again we weren't acknowledged initially - we were asked what table we were on and the girl seemed to pull out our order and then asked what we had eaten - she then was then not confident with the amount charged and was confused Really needed some member of management directing the staff. I understand the owner is not there on a Saturday and really needs to be! I won't be going back in a hurry!

Came into Donny’s the other day for the first time and absolutely loved it! The coffee’s were lovely and the food was fresh and tasty. I was very impressed with the portion size! The whole experience was a enjoyable one. We was greeted warmly by a lovely lady who swiftly came over once we was seated and had time to look at the menu she took our orders and our drinks was on the table not long after ordering and then came the food. Defiantly will be coming back again!

We decided to give Donny's tea room a try, we had a lovely time and the food was fresh and enjoyable. The kids had their own afternoon tea which they had a choice of cake, the adults enjoyed a choice of sandwiches, scone and cake. The service was fantastic considering their was one lady serving but she ensured she greeted all the customers on arrival and explained she be with them. The price was reasonable and we would definitely recommend and return.

Went there today with my sister for lunch. First we had to ask for menus. The table was cleared but not cleaned. We did not receive menus after 10 minutes so reminded another waitress we still didn’t have menus. After about 20 minutes we still hadn’t been asked what we wanted from the food and drinks menu. We were so fed up with waiting and being neglected we left going to another restaurant in Hill Head where the service was excellent There was a big table of eight people which had probably been ore booked. If you know you’re going to have big numbers and being a Saturday you would think you would have more staff and maybe someone a bit senior as all the staff were young and didn’t seem to care 😔

I hosted an afternoon tea baby shower here yesterday and there were 16 of us with children, ages ranging from 10 weeks to 11. It could not have been better. The staff could not have done more for us and ensured it all went without a hitch. The decorations were tailored to suit and had lots of lovely finishing touches. The food was perfect and sooo much of it! I brought some games and they set it all up for me and we all had an amazing time. Just everything was perfect, and I really cannot thank them enough!!! Highly recommend and I will be back!

I have been visiting Stubbington for several years now because of their excellent gift shops, but the highlight for me is looking forward to having lunch at Donny’s. Although the owners have changed a couple of times over the years, they wisely keep the same loyal staff which, I’m sure, makes Donny’s feel like I’m coming home each time I visit. They welcome every visitor to the cafe with the same warmth and kindness whether they are regulars or first-time customers. The food is always delicious and their cakes, as always, are divine! Had lunch with 3 young children; as we entered we were not met with the warmest reception but let it go, slightly annoying when before even ordering we were told they do not allow food to be consumed on the premises that has not been bought there pointing towards my child’s lunchbox; which actually had his toys in it (and finger food for a 6 month old). We had intended to order food for our toddlers anyway so feel better customer service would have been to wait until we’d made our order before jumping to conclusions!

Popped in as was hungry, looked like a nice place and had just about half hour to eat lunch. I was asked to choose a table and was given menus. I had a high tea, drinks and food menus. I chose an all day breakfast which seemed reasonable for the advertised £8. I ordered at 1250 and waited, I thought max 15 min wait, (it was not busy). I was served at 1314, I had a meeting at 1330 nearby and needed 5 mins to get there. So I had to shove the food down I and was still chewing when I went to pay. The server asked me for £9.60 to which I replied that it was advertised at £8 she said “no it’s £9.60 and I must have had an old menu”, I was running late and gave her £10 note and left as I didn’t have time to “battle” it out. Really nice food, such a shame about the slow service and lack of customer service. Won’t be going back.

The staff were very nice and friendly, however we felt there were one or two improvements that would have made the visit more enjoyable, especially as we had the 'Rolls-Royce' afternoon tea. Firstly the bread used for the sandwiches was ready-sliced wholemeal whereas better teas we've had used artisan bread. Secondly, we felt there was insufficient cream for the scones and when we requested a little more we were charged 75p; this was disappointing.

Visited Donny's over the weekend and I was very disappointed with my experience. We were seated promptly near the till, no sooner had we sat down we were being asked what we wanted to eat/drink. My wife asked if they had chocolate cake....they did not. We asked what they did have in terms of cake and they had a small rather disappointing selection available which wasn't so much of an issue considering the time was getting on. Once ordered the two young girls who were waiting tables stood rather awkwardly near the till watching the tables. This made me feel uncomfortable. The cakes we ordered were delivered to the table 2x lemon drizzle and a chocolate brownie. The brownie was small and very dry. The lemon drizzle cake was much better and had a nice flavour. We had practically finished our cakes before our drinks arrived at the table, no sooner had we had a few mouthfuls of our coffee we were greeted with the bill. Already feeling pretty fed up with the poor service and a dry brownie I took my bank card out of my wallet and popped it on the table in front of me in preparation to pay once I had finished my coffee. Seconds later the young girl put the card machine under my nose. I didn't even finish my coffee as I was so frustrated with my experience we just got up and left. I will not be returning and I don't normally write bad reviews but I was exceptionally disappointed.

This tea room is decorated to perfection but let’s face it,you go somewhere like this for good food. We all had a cream tea to share between 2 and there was barely enough for 1. I managed to have 2 small ham sandwich triangles,a cherry scone and a few cups of barely warm tea.It didn’t help that only 1 person was on shift serving our big group. We had a lovely time at the baby shower, it’s just a shame I had to go home and have something to eat! At £16.99 per person,I felt this was a total rip off and therefore will not be returning nor recommending.

I won a voucher for "cream tea for two" in a raffle so made a booking. What I didn't notice was that the voucher had expired as it was only valid for 3 months. It was only a couple of weeks over the expiry date, but the cafe refused to accept it. OK - so it was my fault for not checking the details on the voucher, but 3 months isn't very long and what harm would it have done to honour the voucher, or at least show a bit of sympathy and perhaps offer something else as a goodwill gesture?

We both had lunch, I had prawn mayonnaise wrap and my cousin had tuna sandwich. It came with salad and crisps. I had a banana milkshake, to re live my childhood. It was delicious. Just as they used to be. I didn't have extra cream, but it was creamy enough without. The setting is great, overlooking the little village green. The weather was good so we sat outside. I went inside to see that the interior is spacious and beautifully decorated. The staff were attentive and very helpful. All in all a proper "little gem". Highly recommended.

I visited Donny’s for the first time with family on a late Saturday afternoon (15 mins before last orders) only to be greated by a sulky waitress who clearly had nothing on her mind other than closing time. We were advised in a rather passively aggressive tone that it was just drinks and cakes. I shouldn’t have asked for a scone...it’s not a cake! The drinks and cake were set down on the table with no interaction from said sulky waitress and we all couldn’t help think what a shame Donnys! Our first visit to this tea room was on a Saturday lunchtime, in mid September 2017. There were two Dad's with their little darlings who made quite a lot of noise. The cafe is large inside with little to absorb noise. There's some outside seating too. My leek and potato soup was very good and you get a good piece of bread and butter with it. My other half had cheese on toast, which although costing £5.99, was a double decker and came with salad. Tea is served in bright and pretty crockery. I did however expect more of my lemon tray bake - it was'nt that tasty. Staff were very nice and accommodating.

Wanted to have a nice brunch. My wife uses Donny's a lot so we decided to go there. Two all day breakfasts and two teas £19.58. I took the loyalty card that my wife uses; 12 drinks to get a free one. 12 is a lot considering the competition's are usually 5 or 6. Anyway, on presenting the card, which had 10 drinks on it already, I was told "that's an old card. The new owners don't accept it. Do you want me to throw it away?". What a shame. Although the lady wasn't particularly rude as such there was not a hint of apology. Just a very blunt "no!". I can only assume that the cafe is such a roaring success that they have decided that treating people in such a blunt way and not honouring a loyalty card which is going to cost them pennies for a drink that will mostly have someone else with it and probably some cake etc. is the way forward. Not for us I'm afraid. After many years of enjoying this local cafe for local people we won't be back. Good luck to the new owners. Top tip; you're local and local people talk to each other. Bad news spreads way faster than good.

We booked here for a special afternoon tea for my Mum's birthday. We were able to have the place to ourselves from 5.30-8pm at a very reasonable price per head which included a lovely tea (sandwiches, scones, cake, tea/coffee & glass of prosecco each) for 26 people. The place is beautifully decorated & the tables had been laid with birthday/80th confetti - balloons were the only thing we had to get ourselves & they were ordered from Forget Me Not just across the road who dropped them over for us ready for the start. Wonderful afternoon which my Mum enjoyed very much. Thank you to the staff for making it so lovely. The service was great - attentive & friendly. My daughter is Vegan & whilst they were not able to provide a vegan option for her, we were able to bring food for her which they served on a cake stand for her & glass of prosecco which they didn't charge for. Great venue for a special occasion. Thank you.

We dropped in for an afternoon snack and a cup of tea. My friend had a calorie laden slice of cake and I had fruit cake. Nicely decorated cafe too.

Lunch with a friend, disappointing because the food was over-cooked. I had chicken and bacon salad and even with mayonnaise I had to drink a mouthful of tea with each bite to avoid choking, the chicken and bacon had no moisture at all. If the salad had included sliced tomato or cucumber it may have been a little easier to swollow but it was just dry leaves. My friend had omelette and chips and she said the chips were so very dry, as was the omelette, over-cooked again. Such a pity because the waitress, service and ambience was all very good.

I used to be a regular visitor. I loved visiting after walking my dog and although unable to sit inside was quite happy to sit outside. The coffee isn't the best so I always opt for tea. I used to treat myself to cake which was ok but the prices gave crept up. I assume there was a change of management a while ago as the last couple of visits the staff have been very rude. I'm not allowed inside with my dog to order and have struggled to get attention for someone to come outside. When I have eventually been served the lady has been very abrupt and huffy. The final straw was today when I saw an incredibly rude reply to a customer complaint on Facebook regarding refusal to provide some tap water to a paying customer's dog. I will not return.

Terrible Customer Service. Dogs not made welcome in outdoor seating. Not willing to provide drinking water for dogs despite it being a hot day. Shall not come again. Costa across road has a more Customer focused service.

Have supported this place as it's local. Never again. I gather a customer after spending a not small sum of cash had the audacity to ask for a drink for her dog....big mistake decimate big no way. I mean how much trouble would it have been to give a small dog a drink on a hit day? Stuff you Donnys my partner and I will not return. I recommend costa IN THE VILLAGE much better and friendly customer service.

I frequently come to Donny's and have not had a bad experience yet. I've been for breakfast, lunch and cake there and it has all been great. Fry ups are fresh and tast and i can highly recommended their eggs benedict. Lunch specials vary but i have had lovely quiches and lasagnes. Cake wise... wehere to start?? All are delicious but especially their lemon and blueberry! If you really cant decide then you could always go for their afternoon teas too which are good value for money.

I have been here twice now and what a lovely place it is. Warm and friendly staff and the food is super. I meet my friend here for a catch up over lunch and you are never hurried or made to feel you have stayed too long. Thoroughly recommend.

Couldn't fault the wonderful afternoon tea provided at Donny's for a family get together to celebrate a 60th birthday. Ros was super on the organisation, very efficient by email and Lee's food was amazing. The friendly and polite service made everyone feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble, even allowing those who were just too full up, to take their slice of cake home! We certainly recommend Donny's and will be returning soon.

We had lunch here. The service was ok it was busy so we thought we try it. There was only one jacket potato left. My friend said I could have it. When the food arrived it was a massive plate with barely anything on it. A small jacket potato with a small filling and some lettuce leaves. The lettuce leaves had gone funny. My friends salad had gone funny to. I been to a couple of these places and they normally have good portion size & nice salads. I thought this place was very disappointing & expensive. Probably wouldn't return such a shame because it seems a nice place to enjoy.

When planning my sister surprise baby shower I looked around a lot for a place with private hire to do afternoon tea, Donnys was the best without a doubt. Leading up to the event they were always happy to answer any questions and make some changes to suit our needs. On the day there were so many elements that added to the perfection of the day. Firstly, the decorations provided were so beautiful and thank you for putting them up along with setting up the decorations I provided. Secondly, the food was amazing and made fresh.. more than enough for everyone too. Lastly, the girls who hosted today were so kind and attentive. Thank you soo much for your help and for making it such an amazing event. Couldn't fault anything :)!

We had a bite to eat here on Saturday lunchtime. It was impressively busy. No soup so had cheese on toast. The cheese was tasteless so asked for Worcester sauce. That didn't help so tried brown sauce. In the end I left it. Wife had pate. It was straight out of wrapper. Service was slow, had to walk up to get bill despite several requests. Easy to complain, but adequate and enjoyable for some. Nice to see a business thriving but we won't rush back..

My fiancé and I had breakfast here on New Year's Eve. It was really busy however the staff still made sure they found space for us. The drinks were way better than the food but all reasonably priced.

Went to breakfast for the first time here today. Wasn't impressed really overpriced for what it was- sausage didn't look cooked, one slice of bacon, potatoes rock hard small portion of beans. Really disappointed felt like a bit of a rip off when your paying £6.00 for it and you've had much better for less elsewhere!

My wife and I have visited Donny's for evening bingo and quiz nights and have enjoyed the evenings events. As a result of winning the last quiz, we attended, we had a voucher for free afternoon tea which we used in mid December. We found the whole experience very good. Service was first class and the cake tray with selective sandwiches, cake and scones/clotted cream was something to behold. Although what we had was free, due to the winning voucher, I certainly would not begrudge paying for what we had and will be revisiting at a later date.

Granted there isn't much to do in downtown Stubbington, but a trip to Donny's is a pleasant way to pass the time. Everyone working there the two times I wend this visit was very helpful and happy to help me and accommodating to my American ways. There's a chain coffee shop in Stubbington now, since the last time I visited. I'll take Donny's over that anytime. The decor is a women's paradise but I didn't feel uncomfortable as I sat and read my newspaper waiting for the women in my party to show up. Top notch and this will be my go-to place whenever I'm in town.

Visited Donny's this week together with my wife for breakfast. A friendly welcome on arrival from our waitress, who most attentive to us throughout our stay. Lovely clean and interesting décor. We both ordered the Village breakfast which was freshly cooked, served piping hot and was delicious to eat, so congratulations to the kitchen staff. The price was somewhat high for what was on our plates and certainly higher than some other establishments in the Lee / Gosport area whose food preparation and service is very comparable to Donny's. A small point of contention was that the large tea pot was only half filled with no provision for extra hot water, although I suppose the only two teabags would not have survived extra water. Overall an enjoyable visit but not one which would make my wife and I rush to return to try other menu options

I have visited Donnys on several occasions with a friend but this was the first visit with my husband for breakfast. I had the eggs royale and he had the big breakfast. The eggs royale were superb the muffin was toasted so slightly crispy and still warm topped off with salmon and sauce hollandaise. There was not too much sauce so the salmon was not over powered which has been the case elsewhere. The big breakfast was big with eggs, bacon, sausages, sauté potatoes, baked beans ( Heinz), tomato and mushrooms. A cuppa and slice of toast were also included. Well presented with quick efficient service. Will be visiting again.

As usual, the staff were lovely, as was the coffee. Unfortunately though, the shop is in desperate need of a fly zapper! As every time I’ve visited lately there have been so many flies! I really enjoy going to the shop, but lately all the flies have made me think twice, which is such a shame.

Lovely food here. Went today been going for years. For some reason the entrance we always go in had a barrier in the way. Had it not been for a customer interrupting his lunch and telling us the entrance was further down. We would have left and probably never returned. A lesson learned hopefully.

Was so very disappointed, after everything we had heard we were expecting great things. On arrival we were ignored and not acknowledged for 10 minutes. The venue is very attractive and well laid out, there is generally a positive ambience except the initial welcome. The food did not live up to expectations, all was bland and although we all had different dishes they all tasted the same, no chillies or spice in the meals . The place is quite pricey and sadly it was definitely not worth the money. Real shame

Slightly off the beaten track but well worth the detour, you need a car really to get there but good free parking onsite. The restaurant was fairly quiet for a Friday night so we got a nice table in a window alcove. The meal is varied and our food was very good. I would recommend

Myself and my partner popped to The Golden Lion and we hear the food is meant to be good. We ordered a Croque monsieur and a Croque Madame. Our food was served to us by the lovely Yvonne, and on first look it was very presentable and looked amazing. We both were very impressed with the presentation of our food and on first taste we both said "that's amazing". Steve came to check to see if everything was ok and we told him that it was incredible. I would highly recommend this pub for food, the staff are very friendly and the chef is incredible and a credit to the pub. Thank you Jamie, Steve and Yvonne for making our experience at The Golden Lion a Fab one. We look forward to many more.
