Donington Fish Bar in North West Leicestershire

2nd Year we've gone while at Donnington Truck racing, Absolutely lovely staff and a great atmosphere, the food - especially the hot stone steaks are to die for. We will be back again next year👌

Large fish (really?) small chips and small curry sauce, 2 small battered sausages with small chips and small peas. Cost over £30. Not great quality. Outrageous. Never again. I’m told George’s in Kegworth is a fraction of the cost and better quality

I bought chips and battered sausage which cost £6.50 (expensive!) only to find the chips were all the scrappy little bits from the bottom. Stay clear! over priced and poor quality!!!!

Superb fish and chips. We are vsitors to the area with a large van so opted for the delivery to campsite. They were spot on with timings and the food was as fresh as it would have been eaten on the premises. I read that fresh Grimsby fish is used constantly, and it tasted ever bit as you would expect. Thank you and hope the trade rewards you as the service and food quality deserves.

This restaurant is amazing the food quality and standards is incredible, the staff are polite and friendly and verry welcoming. The best place I’ve ever had steak ! Brought my friend for the first time as I have been here many times before she absolutely loved it and is now going to recommend to her partner and friends.

Big selection ... but a bit pricey

Took my daughter out to Donington Fish Bar last night, I was going to have fish & Chips for our family of 3, well we won’t be going back ever, I ordered a small cod and chips for my daughter then looked up at the price board to decide what to have for my self and my partner, my god I almost fell over at the price £17 for a large fish and chips with peas, I just left the order at a small fish and chips which was £12 and my daughter said it didn’t taste nice. Never again! I will drive 10 miles to my usual chip shop and pay £10.50 for a large fish meal

I had a meal last night first time in ages. We order mini fish, kebab meat, chips with peas gravy and curry cost £43. Chips were poor, chicken meat tasted like cheap thigh meat, and expensive fish was just OK. When ordered I was told 10 mins wait turned into 25 mins. I have eaten there before and it was good so I don’t know what’s changed as they are the same owners

Breakfast box was missing 1 bacon and one hash brown

First visit and last. £13 for a large portion of chips and medium fish. Commented that they were a bit expensive to be told wait until you taste it. Well we got home and we found normal fish and chips nothing special.

Not very impressed. Fish rather grey on the inside, chips appeared to be re-cooked but mushy peas were very nice

I ate kebab and now my throat tastes disgusting. It was so overcooked. :( please manage it better next time. Xoxo I liked the bread.

Got home, chips were dark brown, very dry and Luke warm. Very disappointed won’t bother again I will drive just that little bit further to Kegworth. Saturday 9th

First time ordering and the food was fantastic. Arrived piping hot and early. The fish and chips was by far the best in the area, not greasy and really fresh. The kebab was fantastic too, again really fresh and tasty. Will be ordering again!

Food was really lovely. I had Fish&Chips, small curry sauce and a buttered roll. I've given it 1 star based off of price only. Fish was small and total price was £14.70p which I think is totally insane.. Rip off Britain 🇬🇧

Missed off 2 cans of Dr Pepper and no salt and vinegar. Waited for drinks to be re delivered and they seem to be taking their time. Rang up and they offered to re deliver and tell the owner……meal ruined by these issues. (Delivery driver came at earliest time possible on delivery and was apologetic and offered to deliver the drinks).

All great! Food good. Just a little quiet for Saturday evening. Nice staff 👍, good service

Food was good could have been more salt and vinegar on the chips couldn’t really taste it, the Mediterranean chicken kebab was nice and so was the chicken burger

Came for a weekend away for Convoy in the park, went to the only fish and chip place in the area to find out they had a gourmet sit down restaurant at the back, the 5 of us who went have never had a better fish and chips, and my partner had a 12oz steak which you cook yourself on a hot plate ?! Absolutely amazing and the staff were unbelievably friendly and chatty. We will definitely be coming back and 1000% recommend for anyone🫶🏼

Had a lovely meal here with friends. Beautifully cooked fish and chips and great service. Will be back to try the steak as it looked amazing.

Tiny portions, twice the price of a normal fish and chips shop, waited 20 minutes for it to be ready, forgot the sauce I asked for and it tasted awful. The teenager serving got my order wrong twice and then asked me to pay three times as he didn't get it right the first time. Avoid.

The best steak I have ever had, and it’s amazing to cook my own steak! Fully recommend.

First time using donington fishbar. Expected delivery time was about an hour from ordering, but it arrived in 20-25mins. Have to admit it was only warm when I got it, but a couple of mins in the microwave and it was all good. Fish didn’t go rubbery like some do, was really tasty, peas were good and chips were good too. Delivery driver didn’t touch my food on delivery. Opened the bag and let me take the food out. Will definitely order from them again.

Had a chicken kebab in a Naan, and it was hot when I got it home. It tasted delicious, would definitely recommend

I'm from Whitby where we expect great fish and chips. Donnington fish bar is as good as or better than the chippies back home. Polite and friendly staff and great food. Looking forward to trying their steakhouse next time I'm here. Highly recommended.

Best fish and chips for miles. I put the wrong day on my order and when I checked in with them, and, although it was my fault, they kindly cooked our order and delivered it with a smile. 1st class all round

Really friendly, great service and so good to see something that I've only seen in Europe over here with the hot stone steaks. Not the fanciest place, tucked away behind the chip shop but definitely worth trying.

We went to the gem of a retaurant at the back. Both ordered the rump steak and you cook it on a hot stone yourself so you can have it just how you like it. I'm fussy with meat (hate fatty bits) but there was no fat at all and it was absolutely delicious. The chips were light and fluffy inside and crispy outside. The staff were as lovely as the food. Attentive but not intrusive, polite and smiling and happy to be there. We treated ourselves and both had 3 courses and a couple of drinks each. We will be going back later this month and can't wait.

Whenever I have ordered from here the food has always been gorgeous. Very Fresh and tasty. I tend to get delivery and I'm always impressed that it's on time also the delivery guys have been nothing but lovely. I hope you guys see this and give them the recognition they deserve

Everyone needs to dine out here, what an experience cooking your own steak to your own taste in lovely surroundings. Great staff and service.

Waited 15 minutes for order 2 battered sausages small chips and Curry £8.10 very over priced silly long wait. less then hand full of chips asked it to be in a tray and it was don't separate not worth 8pound 10 still hungry will be going elts where in further waste of money. If it wasn't for paying on card I would of asked for my money back and walked out within the first 5 minutes of waiting

3 of us tried the new restaurant tonight, regular cod and chips and plaice and chips, absolutely lovely, great friendly service and good value for money, we shall be back.

LOVELY FOOD AND FRIENDLY STAFF I would highly recommend this place. This is by far the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Both the starters and mains were lovley especially the highly recommended steak served on a lava stone.

Tried the new restaurant out on opening night (Tues 30th Aug), and it was amazing! I had a fillet steak on the stone which comes with chunky chips, side salad and homemade onion rings. The food came very fresh, hot and high quality from friendly staff members. Felt very comfortable and welcomed😊would definitely recommend!

I sent a bad review on this chip shop about a month ago, for bad service and the wrong order, well tonight I fancied some fish and a variety of battered sausage, potato fritters, mushy peas and a small portion of chips and a fish cake , for me and my partner of cause, I was so impressed with everything, every single item was cooked to perfection, it was also delivered which was a bonus aswell , I’ve got to say the best food I’ve had in a long time from any chip shop around , it was like it came straight out of the fryer onto our plates , beautiful, so for me 5 stars all around, anyone that reads this please try this chippy . 💯👌❤️🤗 Dean and Tracy

Very disappointed tonight with my chicken tikka kebab. I asked for salad which consisted of a few scraps of lettuce, half a slice of cucumber and 1 slice of tomato and didn’t taste to great either. Very small compared to what they used to do. Been going there for 18 years but not anymore.

I have to disagree with a lot of the positive feedback. I initially went onto the website to place an order for a large cod small chips and large peas costing £10.80. I didn’t want to put my card details onto their website so I decided to walk in and order it. Woman serving charge me £12.80. I won’t be going back again, the fish was overcooked and dry, there was far too much batter on it and the chips were shrivelled and dry, the peas were acceptable. Takeaways generally now are definitely not good value for money.

Easy business to find in castle Donington village. Staff are friendly. I always visit this chip shop when I'm stopping in castle Donington village for the racing at Donington. Definitely value for money. I will return to this chip shop in the future

Placed a phone order for a 30 minutes slot pick up, when l arrived it was not done, nice staff, clean premises and nice food. Only down side is they are quite expensive compared to other chips shops in the county

Amazing fish and chips best in the village

Absolutely delicious fish and chips. Cooked fresh when ordered and staff were friendly and polite. Portion size really good. Definitely worth a visit.

Eaten here several times now and the food has been perfect every time. Proper potatoes cut and fried to be crispy on the outside and soft in the middle.

we booked our large fish, regular chips & large peas X 2 via the Donington Fish Bar web site this morning to collect at 6pm this evening, collection was fast, efficient with excellent Service from tonight's team, the fish & chips were gorgeous, highly recommend 😀

Was with friends from Sweden and Finland, and they couldn't believe the quality of the fish and chips, literally they ordered double and took it back on our aeroplane for friends back home. Outstanding quality food

Good quality food at a good price, mostly cooked when you order.

Understandable its the only fish and chip shop in Castle Donington, but the food here is sub-par, overpriced for what you get, ordered a chicken tikka kebab, and recieved the smallest amount of chicken ive ever had in a kebab, the fish here is tiny too, use a plate to measure out the portions but add more to the people they are on good mates terms with and less to others. Shame really, but will be rather going further afield in future.

Worst value ever. The fish looked like a battered sausage for shape and size. It wasn't even a "small fish" (and same price as a large anywhere else). I know it's the only chippie in CD, but it's not Glastonbury or the Vatican. Worth getting in your car and going further afield.

Ordered 3 portions of chips and beans for the lads at work. The bean juice was that runny, that it soaked through the paper wrapping and covered my clothes in the short distance back to the car. The guy who served me had apparently poured thin bean juice all over the top of the dinners. I went back in to show them the state of my work wear. He apologised but the damage was done. Also a lady who works there shouted "we keep telling him"...so I guess it's not the first time. By the time it was delivered back to work, it was all over the boot interior too. The owner offered to buy me a couple of pints when I rang back later to complain again....but I told him I'll be putting a review on here. So, nice chips, rubbish watery beans and not wrapped very well. Probably won't go back again.

Always friendly and welcoming staff. Food is always warm, cooked well and affordable. Plenty of choices on the menu. Would recommend to anyone.

Got to the shop at 5.40, it was closed, there were no open times on the door to say what days or times they are open and no one answered the phone either. poor business service

just moved to the area so checked for local takeaways and came apon this shop, so rang up to order a delivery, i am 3.8 miles away, they said no we dont deliver that far and hung up before i could get another word out, could not believe it, allways drove past them now and wont ever give them my money, the other takeways can have my cash, very very poor service ,

Unbelievably bad service from this establishment - I went in , there were no other customers but when I asked for fish and chips the girl said "sorry, we're too busy" Not a wonder businesses go under - TOO BUSY when you have NO other customers ?? Its far better to drive to Kegworth, there they understand service....and you can actually buy a meal which is clealry a concept beyond the Donington Fish Bar
