As a 60th birthday treat with family this was a disastrous choice. Shocking service. Truly upsetting. As a secondary experience the chicken was actually quite hard to eat

Disappointing .Booked for Sunday Roast, arrived to learn they had run out ! No call to warn us , no apology. Table service was essentially self service . We laid table ourselves , had to request side plates for starters and lay out , served drinks ourselves from a tray , food basic & bland . We were presented with the bill for nearly £200. Not sure where the value was . Been a regular for nearly six years was disappointed and won’t be rushing back .

We were in Uppingham for the day, so popped in for coffee and cake at lunch time - the chocolate orange cake was divine and the staff were knowledgeable about allergens in their food. There was a nice buzz with lots of people eating and drinking - families, couples and groups. We went back for dinner, but weren't sure that it would feel like an eatery for the evening, but a slight change in background music made it feel more like a bistro, than a cafe. We ate from the lunch menu and it was the best meal that I have ever had! We had the burger (£18) and both of us commented on how tasty the chips were. For pudding, we shared the chocolate torte and, again, the staff knew which allergens it contained. It was delicious! We would definitely go here again and would even consider travelling to Uppingham for an evening meal at Don Paddy's. We have already recommended it to our friends and family.

Regret to say that I too was underwhelmed by the revamp which was then compounded by the new limited menu choice followed by a £19 'traditional fish and chips' in which the portion size of the fish was disappointingly more like an oversized goujon accompanied by the smallest ramekin of minted pea puree. The chips, with potato skins on, were ok but not traditional chips as I expect to see them. Don Paddys has always been on the expensive side but this was exceptionally poor value and I won't be rushing back.

Great makeover and atmosphere with normal friendly and attentive Don Paddy’s service. Good menu and our group went for a range of courses. My own was the burger which was excellent but the burger was almost too large! Sadly chips were only slightly warm when they arrived but would have been perfect if the right temperature. Thanks.

Family of seven visited for Sunday lunch yesterday. From the moment we sat down, the service was fantastic. We are opted for Sunday lunch , four has the roast beef , two has roast pork and the child had a burger. The meat was of excellent quality and plenty of it. The food was accompanied with crispy roast potatoes and home-made Yorkshire pudding which was the best I’ve ever had . Also , there was a variety of delicious vegetables and lashings of gravy. Every plate was cleared and we all agreed that it was one of the nicest Sunday roasts we’d had in a long time. Will definitely be returning.

I highly recommend this place. I went for a meal with my husband here last night. We both had a starter, pate for my husband and stuffed peppers for me. They were both faultless. My husband said it was the best pate he had tasted and my peppers were delicious they were both accompanied by a tomato chutney which was also delicious. My husband had the steak for his main and I had scampi. The portions were really generous and every element of the meals were excellent. Don Paddys is a really friendly venue with great staff. They allow dogs in which I think is a great idea. I have been here at lunch time and also in the evenings just for a drink and have enjoyed evey occasion. It is a gem of a place to eat and drink.

On arrival at 1345hrs for lunch on 30.6.23 there was no one to greet, and staff behind bar were not attentive. We had to ask for a table. We then had to attract a staff member to order some drinks. She bought menus and told us on 3 different occasions that there would be a delay to get food. Drinks came and we had to again ask to order food. There was a delay but it arrived eventually. The food at this restaurant is very good and the individual staff were pleasant but no one appears to be in overall charge so the general feeling was of chaos. It’s a shame as there is a captive clientele in this lovely small Rutland town. We didn’t stay for dessert and coffee and we went elsewhere.

We visited this little restaurant for the first time for a quick meal before a concert in the local church, and again for refreshment after the concert. It has a truly lovely ambience being housed in a historic building, with a positively interesting decor, perhaps one might say trendy. The staff were friendly and polite, service with a smile which was much appreciated. I ordered a burger which came in fairly reasonable time and was very tasty. However, upon returning after the concert, we selected coffee and cake, and a pint. The drinks came quickly, but it was clear that the staff had forgotten about the cake! We know this as one of them cast a glance towards us and immediately dived into the cake cabinet! By this point (a good 15 minutes wait, or more) we had finished our drinks. Thus we didn't get coffee and cake together, as ordered. During the wait, the staff were talking and laughing together quite a bit which means the delay was not down to being too busy! In fairness, we did receive an apology for the delay but it tainted what was otherwise lovely experience. One more thing - Uppingham is a fabulous, historic town. Don Paddy's prices do reflect this, being comparable to establishments I have visited in ultra expensive Westminster, London. £18 for a relatively basic cheeseburger and £6.30 for a pint of Birra Moretti lager is, I judge, very expensive!

Really loved it here - I came here for lunch with my partner. We shared the chips as a starter, which were amazing, as the toppings (chorizo, hot sauce, spring onions) added so much flavour without being overbearing. The scampi and chips (again!) were great, and the portion sizes were kind enough that the meal could easily serve two - which my partner and I did. Lovely place that we spontaneously went into, would definitely go back. Overall: 9/10 Food: 10/10 Hospitality: 9/10 Price: 8/10 Setting: 9/10 Wait time: 9/10

However the waiter said the chef would be happy to make me something up such as a GF Caesar salad, so I readily agreed. I was expecting something quite basic, but what I received was beautiful and had been put together with much thought and care. Spoke to someone who I assume was manager and offered more coffee but did not want more coffee. Over-priced for what is basic food. Coffee is expensive too. ‘Large’ Americano coffee is small. Raffs across the road is larger and cheaper and better all round. Service , inconsistent, is slow, and lacking in empathy, no eye contact and you can be ignored as staff busy themselves with other non customer duties . Seems to trade on reputation rather than going the extra mile , complacency over service has intervened. Their breakfast roll is exceptional but at £9.95 is miserable value for money. Enjoyed sitting in the sunshine with a coffee. Cake and cheese scone a bit tasteless. Above average prices in the evening, but seemed good atmosphere.

We stopped off in the town on a journey along the A47 looking for a place to have a cup of tea. We found this place on the market square. There are tables outside on the pavement and we sat outside.. We could have gone inside as our dogs would be welcome inside too. We had tea and cake.

Its like stepping back into time, to a place where everyone is friendly and talks to the stranger that has just come through the door.

Had an early dinner with a friend. My lamb shank was perfect. I swapped my vegetables around which was no trouble. My friend had chicken breast which arrived without her roast parsnips (which she loves). She mentioned it to the waitress and a mound of them soon appeared. Happy girls!

Lunch with grand-daughter at Uppingham School was a vey pleasant experience. A varied menu including a traditional roast carvery Sunday lunch. The seafood platter shared was an excellent choice - tasty and plentiful. House wine was good value. Choice of desserts - crème brulee was vey good. Total cost was very reasonable. Atmosphere excellent. Service was very good.

Called in here whilst in the area. Pleasant enough. Food okay but nothing to set the taste buds alite. My loin of pork was overcooked but nice bit of crackling and the gravy was good. O/H had sea trout on risotto which he said tasted good but looked a bit insipid to me. Staff were friendly enough. I should say this is a locals place where you just hang out for the evening.

This is a lovely wine bar come cafe come restaurant in a pretty location. However the prices are inflated and when a round of drinks cost £13 over the road and £19.50 in there for the same things you do feel a little ripped off.

A truly delicious lunch, all our food was well presented, tasty and on hot plates. Two of us enjoyed the chicken stuffed with spinach, tasty sauce and potatoes, another had scampi, another gammon. Very friendly waitress, Sharon, who had time to talk to us and offered a great service The pub offers a wide menu and specials of the day. It us situated in the middle of the village and just off the A1. Free parking on site, with tables outside as well

The Wheatsheaf in Oakham is a traditional pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Dan and his team always go the extra mile to make you feel at home. They have a great selection of real ales, including guest ales that change regularly, as well as a menu of fresh, home-cooked food. Whether you're stopping by for a pint or a bite to eat, The Wheatsheaf is a great choice.

Had an awesome roast dinner here today. Sharing platter which easily fed 2 adults and 2 children (with leftovers for two hungry and knackered dogs!) The meats were cooked to perfection and the veg was packed with flavour. Lovely presentation. Will definitely be back.

Visited on a trip to Oakham. It's Caffe Nero so you know what to expect but it's cosy with nice coffee. Only downside for me is that it seems to be one of the branches that allow dogs. And there were quite a lot squealing and clip clopping around on the wooden floors. Price you pay for being deep in the country I guess.
