Went to The Bull & Dog @ Coton for Sunday lunch. Country Pub & restaurant are very nice, warm and welcoming, friendly staff and has a wide menu. We opted for the Sunday lunch, I had the roast pork and the wife had roast beef. Plenty of delicious meat, roasters, swede purée, red cabbage, peas, carrots & cheesy creamed leeks and plenty of gravy. Good quality tasty food, competitively priced. Good choices of dessert and a good range of beers. Definitely be going back.

Only get to visit when I'm visiting daughter. Great Pub. Great Food and Great Service. Always a varied menu and good range of real ales. We don't have the luxury of pubs like this in my home area. They were very much quieter than previous visits - here's hoping to their long success

Had a very enjoyable dinner here recently whilst on an overnight stay in Shropshire. Sally & James were very friendly members of staff and brought service with a smile with very little waiting time. Huge portions and very reasonably priced meals. Would have loved to have tried the desserts but the mains were just so large we had no room left! Highly recommend the steak and pie of the day. Would definitely return if in the area again!

We are not regulars, but we try to go at least a couple of times a month, as we have had some good nights at the dog and bull. We took our Labrador in this time and he was particularly excited whenever he sees another playmate. We were going to order some food, but as I ordered the drinks I was spoken to by the barman quite abruptly and he made a comment very loudly about my dog being loud. This made me feel very uncomfortable so we decided to leave. The staff member in particular needs to learn about Hospitality or I think we won’t be the only ones not going back..

The Sunday roast (pork with crackling) was faultless. The best roast dinner out that we’ve had. Lots of meat, the home made stuffing, beautifully cooked veggies and lovely gravy. We ordered Yorkshires to go with the meal and they were huge! A must!

The service was poor , there were only a handfull of others in at the tme so no excuse . My meal of Crispy Beef as a main was almost inedible as was my friends who had the same, If I was not with other friends I would have complained at the time but it was innapropriate for me to do so in the company was with at the time ... Two other friends had gammon.. we had to source steak knives as it was so tough !When it came to coffees the cafetiere was dusty as if it hadn't been used in a long time .. we used a napkin to dust it off !! Suffice it to say I and my friends will not be returning !

As first time visitors, we were overwhelmingly impressed by the warm welcome from staff and the comfortable surroundings. I felt as easy as if I was a regular customer and to be honest, I wish it was nearer to home as it would undoubtedly be my go-to venue. The food quality was superb! Truly having eaten in Michelin star restaurants, I would be just as happy to eat at The Bull & Dog and the menu choices have something for everyone! I don’t usually leave reviews but it is so well-deserved I cannot praise them highly enough. PS I had the pan-fried chicken supreme followed by sticky toffee pudding in case you’re looking for recommendations.

Booked Christmas lunch here, so glad. Absolutely fabulous food, roasted turkey and all the trimmings plus a dish of an amazing array of vegetables, and all freshly cooked. So much we couldn't eat it all. The pub was packed, and how they coped with just one waitress and the manager serving table was a testament to a well-run ship. Money well spent.

We are staying in the area and this pub had been recommended in the visitors book. My husband rang the afternoon before and booked a table for 2 with our dog. When we got there it was very busy with a lot of large parties. We could not see a reserved table for 2 so asked at the bar, as we could not see any staff seating people. Whoever had taken the booking had not written it down apparently so we were given an unreserved table and some menus. We ordered at the bar as again waiting staff seemed in short supply. We then waited 45 minutes for our meal with no one coming to explain or update us on the delay. We were waiting so long a couple near us finished their main, ordered their desert, finished that and left prior to us being served! The food was lukewarm on arrival especially the veg, and the beef was very rare, although no one had asked us how we wanted the beef done. I suspect they had taken on too many bookings and could not cope as the staff seemed rather disorganised to say the least.

A truly lovely and down to earth pub. Dog friendly, good range of real ale and good delicious menu. We were drawn to the pub as it was closest to where we were staying and with the awful weather we thought it best not to travel to far. A good result all round. We like the atmosphere here and go often with the family. Unfortunately, last night, after a complaint about the cream being off on a desert (not a problem really) the girl behind the bar had an extremely bad attitude, stormed into the kitchen without speaking..,,,came to our table a few minutes later, slammed the dessert back on the table, said she had tasted it and it was vanilla the chef had added the day before and said angrily you can eat it! This girl should not be in a customer environment. The manager was great though, but I’ve never seen such horrible behaviour from a bar person… sadly it left a sour taste, literally!

I'm delighted to be giving this 5 star review to this gem of pub. The building is full of character and everyone is welcome including your dog. There's always been a lovely log fire going and great atmosphere. This is not a fine dining place but a home from home, hearty hub with the radio playing gently in the background, laughter from the locals and a menu to suit all. We've been repeat customers for a few months and the food is consistently good. It's all made in house and there are some beautiful touches such as a homemade Shropshire biscuit served with your ice-cream and coffee. What's a Shropshire biscuit I hear you say? Well I'm no expert as to the authenticity but the version you will get served here is a round, shortbread soft cookie with a delicious, gentle lemon flavour from the added lemon zest. As a diner, it's the little things like this that make you feel the food and kitchen is full of love and home comforts. You can expect all the classics like Steak & Ale Pie, Burgers, Curry but also a few more refined dishes such as The Chicken Supreme. Any dietary requirements are well catered for, just tell them when ordering at the bar. All the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful for lunch and dinner. We can't fault it. That's why it's our new local.

Since moving to Shropshire in June and living within 3 miles of the Bull and Dog I thought it about time that I visited my local. Situated in the small village of Coton on the B5476 between Whitchurch and Wem this atmospheric country inn offers ample parking for visitors.Arriving with my wife on a Monday just after noon we felt reassured to find the Inn strictly observing the Covid-19 health and safety regulations.Once seated, and having perused the menu at our leisure, we decided to forego starters and ordered main courses of a 10 oz chargrilled rump steak and a Bull and Dog mixed grill. Both dishes came with handcut chips and an assortment of vegetables. The mixed grill for my wife was a rather enormous affair and although she had ordered the steaks well done she thought the end result somewhat overcooked. Having requested my rump steak be prepared medium it duly arrived at the table as ordered. The handcut chips we thought a little below par and the onion rings were overdone. To accompany the food our beverages consisted of a pint of Oswestry ale (no Whitchurch brew available) and a tonic water. The service throughout was friendly and unhurried and in general terms the food (apart from the observations above) was as expected. From this first experience we would expect to make future visits with family and friends.

Visited here with family early August. Very disappointed. Firstly, we had to queue at the bar (with no masks) to order drinks, food and to pay. At times it was very busy and certainly no social distancing - you also had to pass through these people to get to the toilets. When the food came, we were all disappointed with the amount on the plate. The chicken burger came with just eight chips and the chicken was really thin and dry. The amount of meat on the mixed grill at nearly £20 was shocking, the only meal that did not raise any comments was the steak. Thankfully we had ordered a side of chips and onion rings. We ordered chips and sausage for my little grandson, as he does not like mashed potato, his meal came 5 mins after everyone else's and with mash. We were still hungry but decided not to stay for desserts. The only good thing we had the benefit of the Government scheme to cover part of the bill. We will not be returning which is shame because this is local to us.

My husband and I visited he Bull and Dog pub at Coton yesterday for the first time, and we decided to try the restaurant as it was on the government’s 50% discount scheme. Because I have an allergy to onions of all kinds, I explained this to the man at the bar what my allergy was, and he was nice and polite and friendly. So I asked him if I could have fish with salad but with no dressings or sauces and he said definitely. When the meal arrived it came with a dressing on the salad and with onions, so I explained to the same gentleman that because of my allergy which I had explained to him myself, I could not eat the salad, so he took it away and brought the same fish and chips back but with tartare sauce! I explained to him that I could not eat this as It might have powdered onion in it, and he said we make it ourselves and it does not. But due to my FEAR of eating anything with onions in I said I am sorry I cannot have it on my plate. He grudgingly took it away and came back with the same meal. I said nothing as the chips were by then only warm and fish the same also and the so-called salad was only lettuce. Only lettuce! We had bought a bottle of Pinot Grigio, and on paying the bill we discovered it was a staggering £18.50! We shall NOT be returning to this restaurant again. The full price for the meal was £46, and we can eat in Telford or Shrewsbury for well under £30.

First time visit since moving to the area, great facilities, welcoming staff but very disappointed with the food which it’s ultimately all about.Fish and chips, very little fish inside over cooked thick batter, chips underdone so hard, gammon very salty but that’s the luck of the draw. We’re never asked if we enjoyed the food. Sorry but we won’t be back when the area around Whitchurch has some very good restaurants and pubs.

Visited on our last night of holiday on canal. We were recommended this place by the boatyard we moored at (Whixall) Warmly greeted by the owner and staff, served drinks and shown to table. The menu was very extensive with lots of choice for everyone. We chose soup, seafood cocktail and crispy beef which was one of the best starters we have ever eaten! Followed by gammon, sausages, cod (huge) and hubby ordered faggots which he said were excellent. For desert we had Eaton mess which was served with a choice of cream or ice cream (delicious) All food was freshly cooked, beautifully presented and served by a friendly waitress. The publican obviously has a sense of humour as the blackboards outside and inside clearly shows. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area and even worth a drive out.

We ate here on the last night of our holiday, having been recommended by the staff at the marina where we were moored. Really friendly reception from the staff and although there were only a few other diners the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Each of us had a starter and main meal. I had the fish and chips-a huge piece of fish, very fresh and lovely crispy batter would highly recommend. After eating that, didn’t think I could manage anything else but seeing Eton mess on the menu I’m afraid I gave in to temptation! So glad I did with loads of fresh cream and plenty of strawberries one of the best I’d ever had.The pub is obviously suffering from the fallout from COVID-19 and I would imagine when the restaurant is full and busy the atmosphere would be great.

This country inn with its warm welcome and cosy decor is a great place to enjoy Sunday lunch with family or friends. The meal was well presented and delicious. Good value and well served with a background of soothing live music. All in all a very pleasant lunchtime venue

Great sunday lunch. Food good. But just a note check your bill when you pay. We have been overcharged three times on visits

Our walking group met here for lunch. The welcome was great. We had pre ordered our food and even though we had to wait a little while, all the food came out together. No mean feat as there were 21of us eating. Absolutely no complaints. Would recommend this pub to anyone.

An absolute fantastic meal. Been here numerous times and never had a bad meal! Food today was exceptional, all well cooked, plenty of it and couldn't fault anything even if I wanted to. Have read a couple of the more negative reviews and can only think that they must have been to a different pub!!!

Myself And my family ate at this pub last night, I have to say it was fabulous, the staff could not do enough for us, we were 4 adults, 1 aged 3 and a 7 month old baby. The beer and wine was great. The food was super, plentiful, hot and delicious. I would recommend this pub to anyone and would call again if in the area (We live 2 hours away). There was a long fire that added to the Christmas festivities. Good service, friendly staff, overall a brill visit.

This is great pub to have lunch or dinner, plenty of charm and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The pie of the day was sumptuous with plenty of good quality meat, my brother in law had the faggots which he enjoyed very much. My sister had the duck which was cooked to a tee. The choice of desserts is very good and we all enjoyed our choices.

We've been coming here on and off for over ten years through several changes of management and differing standards of food and service! We can, however, now say that we come here probably on a weekly basis because the food is gorgeous, the service is great and the wine is lovely. Always a pleasant welcome, lots of regulars, dog friendly - a traditional country pub. So glad it's our local - keep up the good work and food!! That pork loin is to die for.

We have never been here before and we had been staying over in Wem for the night. This place was lovely. The locals were friendly, as were the staff and a lovely ambiance. We rang and booked a table 2 hours before arriving. Service was prompt, and the food was delicious. If anything the portions were too big for us!! Lovely evening and would certainly recommend highly.

We live fairly close by but have never been until recently we decided to venture along the North Shropshire country lanes to the pub. It is a pleasant setting, you order from the bar and service was fairly good. The food was excellent. I had locally made faggots, my wife had a fantastic steak. The portions were very good indeed! We have already said we will return.

We visited at lunchtime today with 2 dogs. Friendly welcome, relaxed, laid-back barman and lovely spacious areas to sit. Food and service were excellent and afterwards we sat outside in the safely enclosed garden with play area and let the dogs chill. We cannot rate this highly enough. We all came away agreeing what a lovely time we had had and vowing to return soon. Well done!

This is our nearest pub - about 1 mile away from home and we should visit more often. We were put off by the food a couple of years ago but now changed owners and food is much better. Car Park was busy which is always a good sign. Food was traditional pub pub and good quality with friendly service. Will be coming back more often.

Lovely little pub packed with history, well worth having a little walk around looking at the original features & how well renovated it is. Only called in for a drink but had a nice chat with the new owners who said they’d just taken over, very welcoming and friendly.

Lovely setting and pleasant staff. Priced reasonable. We chose a double afternoon tea. The sandwich were really delicious and fresh. Lots of filling. The scone was hard, but I asked to change and got a delicious warm soft scone as a replacement. Lots of tea and moist light cake. Sensible afternoon tea, not too much cake.
